Life is full of ups and downs. No one knows this better than Kendall Davis. She unfortunately learns from a young age that good things never last. With an unbearable childhood and then the death of her grandmother, Kendall turns to the only people who seem to know she still exists. Brian, Casey, and Will. But as all things tend to go in her life, they too are struck with tragedy. In her grief, Kendall decides to end it all, but what happens when fate has other plans? With no happy end in sight, she must learn to live with the loss and eventually learn to never give up on love.

**Trigger Warning**

This story does mention self-harm and does NOT have a happy ending. If you can stick it out with Kendall's terribly sad beginning, be sure to catch her second chance at love in the White Trash Trilogy.

Heart Wrenching

I've wanted this story ever since Reviving Kendall. The VanPelt brothers always interested me and even though I knew what happened I wasn't ready for this book. I cried through the whole thing. What a heartbreaking novella. Also the surprise in chapter 5, absolutely perfect. So so good.

VanPelts, White Trash Trilogy by Brandy Slaven

I was given this book by the author for an honest review.

I am a HUGE Kendall lover so getting this Prequel was what my heart needed. I needed to feel the heart break for Kendall so make her eventual HEA with The Quad all that better. If you have read Kendall’s series, you KNOW the VanPelts were her first love and they were taken away. This novella gave us everything we needed to be in Kendall’s POV before she meets them. We get to experience her loss of her loved Nana and man was that a rough one. I had a few tears rolling down my face then. We get to see her Gramps deteriorating after Nana’s loss but we get to meet Brian, Casey, and Will.
This book may only be 8 chapters, but it is filled to the brim with everything we need for the complete story of the boys and their girl. I gotta admit I loved seeing The Quad pop up in the book and knowing Brian lied them, made it even sweeter to know these are the guys who will take care of their girl in the end.
If you are a fan of the series, you will absolutely need this book in your life and on your shelf.

VanPelt's is a prequel to the White Trash Trilogy. If you have already read Kendall's trilogy, then you know she started her journey broken. This breaks down the reasons of why. If you haven't already had the experience of reading WTT, you get the advantage of being broken down just like Kendall and going through everything with her. Either way, this is a must read.

This is a short prequel but it was packed with information about Kendall's life. The VanPelt's were her salvation, her rocks. We knew losing them was a tragedy but man, reading it in detail. Getting to go through the experience with her of meeting them when she needed them most. Growing up together and falling in love. Then losing them in such a horrific way. Not to mention the loss of Nana. This book may be short but trust me, grab the tissues before you start. It's an emotional trauma you need to experience. If you haven't already, jump into WTT when you are done and join Kendall in her happy ending. If you have already read about Kendall's HEA, might be time for a reread.

Where oh where do i begin this is the beginning of one of my favorite series, Kendall had a rough childhood having been taken from her parents in a good way she went to live with her nana and gramps which she loved because she knew she was safe. When Nana got sick they had to move into a trailer and there she met the VanPelts Brian, Casey and Will they became best friends and those 3 boys became very protective over Kendall. They keep close through out the years and plan to move to California after Kendall and Will graduate and live happily ever after. Well until a fateful night that took Kendalls future from her and left her empty and heartbroken. Ugh this book is exactly what i needed and broke my heart all over again. But to have Brian meet a few members of the quad was the perfect scene of past and future being together without knowing. Ugh i need so much more.

Kendall learned way too young that good things don't always last. Enjoy each moment because you may not get another. Even knowing, this hurt. Even knowing Kendall gets her HEA in the far future, this devasted. Brandy Slaven did an outstanding job with this novella. The Vanpelts deserved this story. It is exquisitely painfully tragic. I loved the chance to get to know the Vanpelt brothers. Getting this little glimpse into the past, seeing how adoring and protective they were of Kendall, learning more of their dreams for a life together, and feeling their loss was heartbreaking. They were truly good guys. Brian, Casey, and Will never had a chance to disappoint or betray Kendall. They barely had a chance to love her. but they made the most of their days. Their loss at such a young age left them forever perfect.

As much as I knew this story would tear my heart to shreds, I desperately wanted to know more about Kendall’s first loves, the VanPelt brothers. I enjoyed reading a bit of their story, despite its tragic end. Brian, Casey, and Will were perfect.

This story doesn’t have a happy ending, but Kendall finds hers in the White Trash Trilogy. As heartbreaking as it is, Kendall was the VanPelt brothers’ HEA. They spent their lives, their forever, with the girl they all loved. I like to believe that in the next life, Kendall will be reunited with her first loves and they will be welcomed into the family she created with the guys she’s with now. ❤️

this was cute.... when someone tells me a book is cute it automatically runs me off-- FOR THE MOST PART. i don't do cozy, cute, sweet etc... SO if you like cute, this still MAY not be for you. my definition of cute for this book and yours is not the same....
i considered reading the rest of the series as this is a new author for me but i haven't settled on a decision.
i like how the VanPelt boys cared for Kendall and were protective and she was able to befriend them. she was hoping for friends before she met them and they came along not long after.
BUT this story is sweet- tho you wouldn't be able to tell by the first paragraph of the book... sweet concept, sweet plot.... great intro, i am sure to the rest of the series.

Cried my eyes out! Perfect.

This book took courage and strength to write. Writing about a character's past life is difficult, especially when the character is loved like Kendall, and when the story is tragic and doesn't have a fairy tale ending. I'm super proud of the author for completing it. It was bittersweet but perfect. I'm going to go reread the series again, although I did a few months ago, because Kendall is one of my favorite characters and I want to read about her happy ending.

Be ready for the tears!

What an amazing and heartbreaking story. I knew going into it it was going to be sad but I dont think I was prepared for how hard it hits you. I love Kendall's story in the trilogy but reading this prequel makes it even better. I'll definitely be rereading the series... and making sure I have plenty of tissues at hand. Great job Brandy!

Amazing short story

Having already read the trilogy I knew it was going to be a tear jerker but I was ready for it. Kendall’s first loves the VanPelts. I love the fact that the author gave us the brothers point of views as well as Kendall’s. When she saw the car…I could feel my heart break for her. Amazing story.

If you have not read White Trash Trilogy you are missing out! I love that the author took the time to explain Kendall's background to us. It explains a.lot about her personality and why she feels the way she does. Get the tissue ready, this one will make you cry!

So sad

This is an amazing series and Kendall had to go through so much. It's heartbreaking to see the beginning and how they met and came together. I can feel her pain especially when she saw the car.

Heartbreaking

Having read the series, I knew how this story ended. I knew before I opened it that it would NOT have a happy ending but I still had to know more about the Van Pelt brothers. They lived up to their hype.

worth the wait

I have been waiting patiently for this book of Kendall’s first loves. It answered some questions that I had about Will. This book was worth the wait. I wish it was longer but it is a great read.

Did not realize how much I needed this book.

I had just started a reread of the series when I noticed this book and I am so glad I read it.

I did not realize how much I wanted to know about how they met and the situation between Will and Derrick.

I LOVED IT SO MUCH!!!!

*WARNING* DO NOT READ this if you Bve not read the Kendall series first. As while this is a prequel, this book was written after the White Trash Trilogy and therefore will have spoilers*

This book slayed my heart. I was crying in chapter 2. CHAPTER 3. I do warn though that I'm reading this book after I read the Kendall Series. So I already knew what was going to happen at the end. But, BUT, it didn't stop the emotions from wrecking my soul immediately. It didn't stop me from hoping. From needing it to be a lie. For the outcome to have have changed. I NEEDED them to have a happy ending. I knew it wouldn't happen but I STILL had to BELIEVE. I had to pull the car over because I couldn't drive anymore. I was an emotional wreck. This broke me more than I thought it would. This was a beautiful book. I just want more moments. More moments of them together so I can have more precious moments of happy for them just a few more to keep their memory alive just a little longer.
