Hitchcock kedvenc történetei nemcsak izgalmasak, hanem különlegesek is. a szereplők többnyire átlagemberek, a szituáció mindig egy kissé bizarr, a cselekmény pedig valami furcsa csavarral zárul. A kötet Alfred Hitchcock által válogatott novellákat tartalmaz. A történetek szerzői többek között: August Derleth, James Holding, Jonathan Craig, Richard Hardwick.

Sir Alfred Joseph Hitchcock KBE (1899-1980) was an iconic and highly influential film director and producer, who pioneered many techniques in the suspense and thriller genres.

Following a very substantial career in his native Britain in both silent films and talkies, Hitchcock moved to Hollywood and became an American citizen with dual nationality in 1956, thus he also remained a British subject.

Hitchcock directed more than fifty feature films in a career which spanned six decades, from the silent film era, through the invention of sound films, and far into the era of colour films. For a complete list of his films, see Alfred Hitchcock filmography.

Hitchcock was among the most consistently recognizable directors to the general public, and was one of the most successful film directors during his lifetime. He continues to be one of the best known and most popular filmmakers of all time.

-Tirón del “seleccionador”, no de sus contenidos.-

Género. Relatos.

Not all of these short stories are winners but there’s definitely some gems in here. Some funny, some really exciting. Best part is they’re all short enough that if one isn’t grabbing you then it won’t be long before you’re onto the next one and if an ending isn’t satisfying, it didn’t take a lot of time to get there.

I’ve picked out my favorite stories in the order they appear in this collection:

The China Cottage by August Derleth
- A nice little Sherlock Holmes pastiche.

Killed by Kindness by Nedra Tyre
- A morbidly funny story about a husband and wife who are only doing what’s best for one another.

Pattern of Guilt by Helen Nielsen
- Feels like you’re in an old detective movie complete with cigar smoke and a hard boiled reporter.

Weighty Problem by Duane Decker
- Makes pretty much no sense at all but is the funniest story here. I was laughing out loud it’s just so silly. Very short story, a must-read.

Bus to Chattanooga by Jonathan Craig
- Edge-of-your-seat-exciting. Wastes no time.

The Feel of a Trigger by Donald E. Westlake
- This one and Bus to Chattanooga are the best in the collection. Both emotional and exciting.

Captive Audience by Jack Ritchie
- Standard reach the ending and go, “aaaaahh I get it” story. Nothing too crazy especially after whats come before but a good, short, simple story with a satisfying conclusion. I wish the collection had ended on this one instead of the weaker ones it does end on.

Overall, would recommend, if only for the stories I’ve talked about.

Autobús a Chattanooga

this collection opens up with a story of august derleth's alternative to sherlock holmes, solar pons. solar pons is no sherlock holmes, and most of these stories are like him, tales that pale in comparison with some interest but are mostly forgetable. some few have sort of humourous twists in the denouement: "killed by kindness" "weighty problem" and "you can't be too careful" have gruesome smirks built into their endings, and thanks to the collections,i've come to realize that talmage powell's stories always have some charm, and "heist in pianissimo" is no different. superior stories here are: helen nielsen's pattern of guilt, and (no surprise) donald e. westlake's "the feel of a trigger".

An excellent selection of crime and mystery stories. The best might be Donald Westlake's "Feel of the Trigger," in which a police detective struggling with thoughts of his own mortality must make a decision about using deadly force.

Most of the other stories go for ironic endings or suprise twists at the end and do so with great success. The selection of tales here is uniformily excellent.

This is another excellent collection of short stories presented by Alfred Hitchcock. This volume is from 1968. I'll mention two stories.

First, the great Nedra Tyre (1912-1990), a social worker who wrote crime stories on the side, delivers a fantastic little ditty called "Killed by Kindness." It's about a husband who decides to kill his wife because he has secretly fallen in love with another woman. He convinces himself that killing her is the kindest option for his wife, since leaving her or divorcing her would make her the subject of gossip and ridicule in the community. On the other hand, if she is a murder victim she becomes a sympathetic figure in people's minds. Little does he know that his wife is thinking exactly the same thing because she, too, has secretly fallen in love with another man. How the author works out these kindly killings takes cleverness to a whole different level. Outstanding.

Next, Duane Decker, a WW II marine who is known for his baseball fiction, offers "Weighty Problem." It's about an extremely obese man who steals some money and kills a man in the process. Before the victim dies, he gives the police a description of his killer...a grossly obese man of a certain height. The killer concludes that the only way for him to escape arrest is to lock himself in a room and go on a crash diet. If he becomes skinny, he will never be fingered for the crime. But as is always the case with these stories, the plan, which seems foolproof, takes an unexpected turn.

If you like clever short fiction with twist endings, you can't go wrong with these anthologies.
