Jump Back is that rare book a tale of a girl growing up happily. Told from the points of view of the children who lived there at a certain magical time, it's the story of a wonderful rowhouse neighborhood in Philadelphia called West Oak Lane. Brand new in 1949, its houses were exactly what a lot of World War II vets had thought and dreamed about during that terrible war. It's filled with stories that show what that neighborhood meant to the men and women who created it with their love and dedication after the devastation of the Second World War. The men could finally take their packs off and put their feet up after their tours of duty in Europe, Africa, and the Pacific – and start families of their own. It was a wonderful time for many people in America. The heroes had come home from the war to become gentler heroes to their wives, children, and friends. Building playhouses, setting up tiny swimming pools, having catches, putting on plays and circuses, building snow forts in the back yards It was a time, as so few times are, that will probably never come again. From a child's point of it was great!
