Wanting only to be a respected scientist and forget the hatred, bigotry, and poverty that dominated her youth, Dr. Essie Openwaters finds herself targeted by a powerful psychopathic murderer as she struggles to protect the Pacific Northwest from a devastating explosion and overcome inner demons that threaten her career.
The reader is given a lot of scientific background at the start from the author's note. This took me a while to digest but I was glad I had understood the science because it made it much easier to follow the story through. The plot stayed gripping throughout, with enough drama and tension to keep us reading into the night! Dr. Essie was the perfect character to show the story through, she was strong willed, intelligent and extremely likeable, making it easy for the reader to cheer her on.

I’m excited to read more about Essie. She has two PhD’s and is trying to help stop an explosion that would have irreparable harm. It’s a bit of a mix of a story with politics, nuclear danger, science, and a woman that needs to work well with others. It all starts with the discovery of a 50 year old memo that someone is still determined to keep hidden. The book ends with a perfect setup for a sequel or series.
