Darkness #5

Darkness San Francisco

Rate this book
The novella, Darkness San Francisco, takes place in a world with no power. The world lost all electricity after a solar storm destroyed grids around the globe. Four full-length adventure romance novels were written in that post-apocalypse dystopian setting (the Darkness Series). They detail the trials and tribulations of a group of strong lesbians who must endure together to not only survive but thrive. Settling in the small town of Astoria, Oregon, they face many external and internal challenges, but in the fourth novel, Wind Dancer, a new evil emerges—a pirate king named Captain Poissoit who is pillaging the west coast. Reading the books in the order they were written is strongly recommended: Darkness Falls, Darkness Remains, Darkness United, and Wind Dancer. Although each is a complete story, they are much more enjoyable as the reader gets to know the cast of characters as they appear in the series.
In Darkness San Francisco, two main characters from the series, US Army Major Grace Hamilton and her partner, Ship Captain Meg O’Grady, set sail from Astoria to track down the pirate king and bring him to justice. They will chase the outlaw on their ship, Wind Dancer, to his lair in San Francisco, if necessary, to capture him. The Darkness San Francisco novella focuses solely on their adventure. Although much still happens in the city of Astoria, none of the lives of the women there are included in this book. Their stories are set aside for another day.

I was a little befuddled at the beginning of this novella but sorted it out. Good story with everything happening quickly. I am not and Audrey fan but redemption changes my mind. As a character she needed to be filled out more to understand her motivations.

Kindle Unlimited Novella - Part 5 of a series.

I really enjoy this series very much, however I did feel this installment wasn't quite up to par with the previous 4. It's a novella and as such goes by quickly - but it also means that we don't get to spend enough time getting to know our newer characters. Which is disappointing when there's such complex issues at hand.

Such as a woman in power in San Francisco, who has managed to make quite a luxurious lifestyle - but is not really calling any shots, and is under the thumb of a pirate. I just wanted that bit more character growth, and interaction to really form that bond and trust between our characters.

I do just love that this series is about women stepping up, kicking ass and taking names and creating a better world for their community at large.

Here was a real missed opportunity! Finally a character that’s morally grey within the series and a unique story compared to the last 4 books. I know it’s a novella, but had the story been fully flushed out it would have been a great book. It was too quick, vague on details, and the antagonist flipping too easily. I wish the author had done more with this.

Unique perspective on the post apocalyptic genre

I love KC Luck's writing and her take on each subject she approaches.

Real characters facing real challenges with believable scenarios.

It was a pleasure to spend time with Meg and Grace and Cyd. Audrey is a great new character to meet.

A great addition to the Darkness series! Start from the beginning!

Good book

A story of how to survive. Audrey knew if she could get electricity to the tower she could rule the city with the help of the Captain. Meg, Grace and Cyd after being captured where taken to the Tower. They could not believe that there was electricity and food. The women had to arrest the Captain if things where to get back to normal. With the help of Audrey things are starting to turn around but more help is needed. Can't wait for the next book

A quick novella to wrap up the storyline from book four. Maybe it was a bit easy, but I’m all for redemption stories and putting another powerful lesbian in charge.

A major city owned and dominated by a pirate; what’s next?

Major ports, like SanFrancisco, and Baltimore’s harbor had pirate ships to take groups out on the water for fun and maybe learn about pirates. Now, with the apocalypse, what happened to those enterprises? KC Luck chose to delve into this in Book 5 of The Darkness Series. Meg and the Major, take the Wind Dancer in search for a Pirate that is stealing, burning and killing the people of small towns on the west coast. Will they find this marauder before he can take more lives? Cyd, the small time their who escaped from San Francisco, joins the Wind Dancer crew and Army soldiers with hopes she can help them move through the city she once lived in, without detection, so the pirate king can be found and brought to justice. It’s a game of cat and mouse, but who is who, and who will win.

A level head wins every time!

When the plan to arrest the Pirate King and restore freedom and order doesn't go exactly according to plan, Grace, Meg, and Cyd have to figure out how to get the plan back on track and deal with the new twist...that maybe the Pirate King is not the top dog after all.

This is a shorter story, but well worth the purchase and the read! It is definitely worth reading the books written before this to have a better investment in the character development. Don't come looking for just steamy explicit scenes in this one. You won't find any, but I feel that doesn't detract from the excitement that the story builds and leaves us with some foreshadowing for the next installment....which I am patiently waiting for!!!!

All I can say about this book is I want more. This was an excellent read in the continued Darkness series. Without giving away any spoilers, Meg and Grace saved the day, but not without the help of the little spitfire, Cid. Given the chance to get away from the turmoil, Cid has a change of heart and truly comes through for her friends. Could it be possible that Cid and the newest character, Audrey, become an item? Only KC can answer that question, and I certainly hope she does with another book in the series. Thanks KC and keep them coming.

Absolutely love this novella, which gives another aspect to the rich tapestry of the dystopian world that KC Luck has created. I hope with all my heart that there will be a book 6 and this Fabulous series will continue. I love the strong female characters and the challenges they face. Another outstanding book

Had to read the whole book in one sitting! Could not put it down! The new characters introduced added interesting vibes to the story. The drama surrounding the capture of the Wind Dancer was nerve wracking and Cyd escaping was awesome. Totally great book! Really everyone needs to read not only this book But Al the books in this series!!!

Another “read in one sitting “ entry in the Darkness Series! I sat down to start and was halfway through before I realized what time it was. I laughed to myself poured a cup of tea and pressed on. Meg, Grace and Cyd plus the crew of the Wind Dancer embarked on an adventure that will continue on to the next installment! No spoilers, but settle in and enjoy the ride!!

Liberating A City

Planning a mission to capture the pirate king, Grace, Meg, and Cyd are aboard ship on the way to liberate San Francisco. Not knowing that Poissoit is not the the chain, they are captured and taken to The Tower were the genius woman, Audrey, maintains a building of luxury and safety. A cast of strong sapphic women and a twisting plot.

Great as usual.

I love this series. Glad to see what happens after they set sail for San Francisco. I just wish it was longer. On the bright side it leaves room for another chapter in the saga.

Cyd, Grace, & Meg score!

Our courageous ladies chase the Pirate King to San Francisco and are introduced to Audrey, the brain behind The Tower and the Pirate King’s success. There is work to be done to get the city back to life. A follow up adventure you definitely want to read.

Good Storyline

I have enjoyed this series, but this but seemed a little more rushed than the others. I felt it didn't go into the story as much as the other books in the series. But, I still enjoyed reading more about the characters and their challenges.

Darkness Take Me Away

Introducing new character, Audrey, to the Darkness universe MS Luck continues to complete and expand all of the darkness. Watching Audrey evolve was a pure treat. Here's hoping the Darkness Universe will continue to grow and thrive!

Side story on where the pirates came from, plus the heroines from earlier volume hunting them down.

I actually wish this was a longer novel, possibly more focused on the genius character and what she went through.
