I’m a survivor. A fighter down to my blood. I need the release that comes when I step in that octagon, I crave it. I spent too long being beat down and broken in every sense of the word, and I almost didn’t make it. Fighting saved me though and then I saved myself.
When I am offered a full ride scholarship to a college in the middle of nowhere Alabama over 2000 miles away, I grab the chance with both hands and run like hell. What I didn’t expect to find when I got there was a local underground brawler that has more likeness to a local celebrity than the arrogant broody bastard who seems to be everywhere I turn.
Dax Hart.
Every man wants to be him, and every woman wants to be under him. Except for me. I have no intention of getting caught up with the short tempered sexy as sin asshole. Even if his broken jagged pieces are a mirror image of mine.
Katelyn Taylor writes dark and contemporary romance and is known for twisted love stories with toe-curling smut, heart-breaking angst & plot twists that keep readers up all night.
If you like your romance with a side of unhingedness & spice, get ready to cry from your eyes to your thighs.
I’ve never read a book about FMC like Aubrey Davis. She is strong willed and doesn’t need a man to take care of her problems. And she doesn’t change throughout the book either. Some FMC change when they meet the MMC and let them fight their battles. Nope not Aubrey. And I loved her for it. She’s through and through. It made the authenticity of the book better for me IMO.
Dax Hart is an MMA fighter who doesn’t just fight in a caged octagon, but also fights to keep his rage caged in. He keeps his emotions controlled… until he doesn’t. It’s up to him to live his dreams only if he keeps his emotions at bay. Luckily, Aubrey has become his backbone.
“His darkness is the same inky black as mine. His broken jagged pieces are a mirror image of mine.”
I really enjoyed this book. From the first moment I met both Aubrey and Dax I liked them. It was nice to see Dax not be condescending towards Aubrey. He respected her. Aubrey showed that she could handle herself in the ring. MMA is not just a male dominant sport anymore.
When it came to the romance between these two, it was a slow burn. I am here for the slow burn romance as it was more believable; especially considering Aubrey's past. So that when they did finally hook up, it was very hot. I finished this book in a matter of a few days. I look forward to reading more books by Katelyn Taylor. Romance readers will love Jagged Harts.
the writing itself brought the rating down to 3 stars but the constant “i’m not like the other girls” comments, slut shaming, the way she purposefully lead cole on, and the overall bitchy and judgmental attitude of the fmc dropped it down to a 1 star. the fmc and mmc were also both annoying.
“The idea of you with anyone but me, it drives me fucking crazy. It makes me fucking murderous. I-”
“So, I guess what I am trying to say is…give me a shot, give us a shot. Let me show you that I can be more than the detached asshole that I am with everyone else, that I can be the man my mom would be proud of, a man that you would be proud of.” ——— Aubrey and Dax were definitely meant for each other. Talk about being a powerful couple! These two have gone through so much in their past that the only way to release all that built up anger is by releasing it in sparring and mma fights.
As Aubrey leaves her small hometown to start fresh and leave her haunting past, she moves to a small town in Alabama where no one will know her and will never find her. She finds herself a job and begins to find friends. What she doesn’t expect is to fall for the most known mma fighter in town, Dax. Together they grow stronger and can fight any obstacles that are thrown their way, but can Aubrey fully run away from her past? And can Dax hold his promise to never break heart?
I usually don’t read MMA sports romance, as sometimes I don’t understand the fighting terms, but Katelyn did such a amazing job that I understood everything. I did struggle with Aubrey in the beginning as I felt she was very intense and a little violent. But as her past is slowly revealed I began to understand why and couldn’t help but admire her. Now, Dax was just hot as hell! I loved that he was broody and only sweet to Aubrey! The character development, the banter, and the spicy scenes were so so good! This is a slowburn but when we get to the heat, Katelyn totally delivered! Dax was 🥵😮💨.
I won’t say more, just READ this book! Thanks so much to Katelyn for providing me with an advance copy!
This book is the definition of trust the process because 10% in I was debating not finishing it but so glad I read a little bit more because this book absolutely consumed me and I stay up all night reading it. This would have been a 5 star read if it wasn’t for a few cringey lines in the beginning and my second issue (which probably won’t be a issue for most) was how easy getting mma fights was and how fast champion fights were given. The time frame would not have been weeks at all but that’s just a little pet peeve of mine because I’m into mma. OTHERWISE it was absolutely amazing, I love me a “cold” and badass fmc that stands up for herself and others. I absolutely love a messy enemies to lovers with lots of drama so this right up my street. Dax is/was an asshole but we definitely got see a more vulnerable side as the book went on. I love how bree didn’t lose herself as the book went on and carried on being her prickly self. If you’re looking for a messy enemies to lovers book and is okay with OW drama then you have to read it! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ 🌶🌶🌶 Enemies to lovers Mma Badass fmc Playboy fmc Ow drama College setting
This book pulled me out of a MAJOR book slump. I was struggling to find anything that kept my interest. From the moment I picked this up I was hooked.
Aubrey is a bad ass. Plain and simple.
“I welcome the monsters of the night. I challenge them to come for me. Just see what will happen if they do.”
Throughout the story you get glimpses of the dark past she is trying to escape and it leaves you craving answers.
Dax. Dax freaking Hart. This man is swoon worthy. An MMA fighter who has a thirst for spilling blood on and off the mat. Let’s get his description shall we:
“6’4, 240lbs of pure muscle, emerald green eyes, dirty blonde hair with arms like tree trunks.” Oh and let’s not forget his biggest asset 🍆😏
The spice 🤌🏼💋
“Never again, you hear me? The only person to ever touch you again will be me. The only man that will be inside this pussy is me, the only man that will ever be in this ass is me. You are mine Aubrey Davis.”
I ate this book up; it gave me everything I wanted ♥️
Also, I fell in love with Blake and I’m BEGGING for him to have his own book 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Review: ⭐⭐⭐ 3/5 I did really enjoy reading some parts of this book but there were a few issues that I just couldn’t get past to give it a higher star rating. It has some great romance, some exciting plot moments and some hot smut but it just wasn’t quite right for me. I found that this book was very similar to Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire.
Aubrey starts off as a really cool character. She's sassy and badass but she is clearly carrying around trauma which gives her an edge of mystery that pulled me in. My main issue with her character was that she is seen as special because she’s “not like the other girls” which is a trope I personally can’t stand. Dax is your typical “extremely hot brooding man” character in the start but if the trope ain’t broke, don’t fix it. He does become a very developed character as the book continues and I loved his story.
The start of this book was very fast paced and exciting but it definitely suffered from a slow and uneventful pre-climax section but it picked up again to have a good ending. It was perhaps a tad predictable in places but, let's face it, we come to romance books for the characters and not so much the unexpected plots so this wasn’t a big issue for me.
I really like split POV books where you get to know all the characters from one main perspective before it splits into dual POV. Despite the fact this story is mainly told from Audrey’s POV she doesn't have much development, she's cool from start to finish so it’s mainly the story of Dax’s improvement.
I enjoyed the romance and the book as a whole, I just think it could have lost some of the slow pre-climax plot and had some more fleshed out side characters. That would have made it an easy 4 starts, maybe more. I can’t wait to see what Katelyn Taylor comes up with in the future!
Bada$$ FMC meets bada$$ MMC and MMA?! Sign me up 🥵
Jagged Harts was an awesome MMA themed enemies to lovers read and I cant get enough! Aubrey was fierce AF and Dax was pure alpha a$$hole, which naturally means extremely tense and spicy chemistry. I loved the storyline and the secrets, but genuinely how much each main character needed the other to grow without fully accepting it. They were both so independent and it was amazing to watch their relationship progress, despite the hurdles.
Spice was ON POINT (way to go Dax 😉), and the story was perfect. Both characters were so closed off but expressed their emotional damage in different ways that I could not stop reading about how they came together perfectly!
This wasn’t it for me. The amount of times these characters just punched someone in the face, but never an assault charge to be seen. The amount of baby and babe made me want to gouge my eyes out. The obnoxious cliches of after 3 fight he’s a champion to the proposal after a fight. I would have DNFd if this wasn’t a bookclub read.
I didn't know what to expect going into this book I was so stuck on the whole MMA aspect of the book but I loved this authors mafia books so I couldn't wait to read it 🥺 it was so beautifully raw at times it had me in tears. Bree is so badass haunted by her past that she never let's anyone get too close to her and not willing to share that part of herself with anyone. Dax harbors a lot of guilt and it's in a way turned him cold which is great for his fights in the ring but outside of that his life is just party after party and girl after girl he'd rather numb himself then face his pain.
When Aubrey is accepted to university in Alabama she packs up her possessions which fit into a duffle bag and drives across country practically running as far from her life for a fresh start. With no money she seeks out a job luckily landing one close to campus. The only good part of her life back in LA was the MMA gym that literally saved her life so when she hears there's one in town she seeks it out to keep herself sharp and in shape. Dax is the local mma celebrity undefeated in the friday underground club but a total arrogant asshole in Bree's eyes. When her car breaks down one day Dax just happens to drive by and offers to help her out getting back to campus and fix her car that's probably better suited for the scrap yard. As Dax works on her car Bree begins hanging around to learn more about cars in the hopes she doesn't have to rely on anyone's help again. But as they spend more time together Bree begins seeing a different side to Dax, they push back against their obvious attraction for each other for a while but eventually can't deny that their darkness calls to eachothers. Never fully opening herself to anyone before Bree goes head first trusting Dax with all her dark past hoping it won't send him running for the hills and it is truly brutal what she endured 💔 But just as she trusts Dax he trusts her and reveals his pain to her too. But typically not everyone is happy that party boy Dax Heartbreaker Hart has settled down and his betrayed by those close to him as the sabotage his relationship sending both he and Bree in to a dark spiral without each other. With a championship fight luming Dax looks set to lose without the support her so dearly needs from Bree to stop himself going off the deep end and when her dark last comes crashing back into her life she'll need him just as much because in the end their jagged pieces are the same and everyone needs help sometimes no matter how strong you are.
Jagged Harts is a contemporary romance full of these favorites: - Dark and broken MMC - Strong and fierce FMC - Relatable characters and relationships - SPICE - A touch of “who did this to you?” - A dash of slow-burn
Meet your characters:
Aubrey Davis - Your sharp-tongued, firecracker FMC. She takes off to college to start a new life and desperately wants to leave her past behind her. But such things never stay where we want them, do they? She is a fighter to her core, it has kept her alive this long, why not keep it going? She fights people, her past, and most of all her feelings. Go meet your tiny but mighty badass and watch how a thicket of thorns can turn into a bouquet of roses.
Dax Hart - Your dark, broken, broody, dickhead, playboy MMC. A senior at Whitman U who is a formidable opponent in the underground MMA scene. Fueled by anger, he is undoubtedly powerful, but he lets his hot temper and strong punches get in the way. Everyone wants him, he’s a chiseled god of rage, but his broken pieces leave others cut and bleeding. Can he soften his edges and be honest with himself about what and who he wants?
“Everyone needs saving once in a while” - Dax
To love the characters and enjoy this book you don’t have to know much about Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), just sit back, google a few moves, and enjoy the ride.
I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. It has the same tropes and content I know I love mixed with a new setting/theme with the MMA fighting element. By the end of the book, I was ready to become a fighting and self-defense badass, which I now may have to pursue. This book is not for those who want a quick and easy love story, this is not that. But for me, that made this book 10x better because it was relatable and grounded in reality. My experience with love has never been quick and easy, so if you want raw, real, and spicy you’re in the right place!
I will say that for me, this book was very predictable, I was surprised by nothing, but that wasn’t necessarily a bad thing. It was almost comforting to know that I knew where I was going the entire time. There was no free-falling through the dark adrenaline that some books have and I did miss that element of surprise here. All in all, this was a solidly enjoyable book! If you are comfortable with the trigger warning, I suggest you give it a read!
This book is about Aubrey (Bree) and Dax! Both main character’s in this book are so strong! Dax is 100% alpha and Aubrey is almost over the top stubborn.
The first 2-3 chapters I was worried about having both MC’s with such intense personalities but quickly changed my mind once the history of their pasts starts coming out.
Dax and Aubrey both have had horrible experiences in their past. They both use MMA fighting in their own way to deal with some of that pain. He has extreme guilt to overcome and she has lived in survival mode for so many years it is heartbreaking. They use fighting as a way to help themselves overcome the demons of their past. It is almost impossible for Aubrey to let her guard down even a little but thankfully Dax is there to help her lower those walls. I absolutely loved the tenderness these 2 strong characters were able to use towards each other to work through everything. The growth of them as a couple and individually was amazing! I experienced so many emotions in this book. Anger, laughter, tears of sadness as well as joy and of course so much heat and swoon! Katelyn was able to put so much into one story without it seeming like too much.
I also have to mention Aubrey’s best friend Kayla. They meet under the worst of experiences but Kayla just plows right into Aubrey’s life as the friend she didn’t realize she was missing. They are polar opposites but exactly what each other needs. It was definitely a great side story in this book.
“This book contains several potential triggers including, physical and sexual abuse, coarse language and violence. Please proceed with caution. This story is raw, gritty and at certain points deliciously dirty.”
Thank you so much Katelyn for my ARC of this amazing book!
I liked this book, but I don’t think there was anything that really wowed me. The characters and plot were predictable but it was still enjoyable. I thought the pacing was a little slow at times. The author really makes you see this relationship fully form and at times I wondered if there was actually going to be a storyline besides the relationship. There is, but it’s all the way toward the end. This has dual POVs but it’s mostly from Aubrey’s POV which I find interesting because this book is mostly about Dax. He has growth in the book and Aubrey is just consistent mostly. She was very annoying in the beginning of the book with her over the top attitude and I wasn’t a fan of the “not like other girls” trope constantly being pushed in my face. Towards the second half of the book she eases up on the more sassy inner dialogue thankfully. There were things I found very unbelievable in this book but the relationships were mostly done really well. Cole is probably one of my favorites. I found myself relating to Aubrey and his relationship a lot of the time. All in all it was a good contemporary romance to read and I did enjoy the writing style. I am interested to read more by this author. I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Jagged Hart's is a stand alone book with the MCs being in college, both with traumatic childhoods, both interested in MMA. This book gets you from the start and it's action packed, with an enemies to lovers trope, OW/OM drama, that ends with a HEA. Ms. Taylor is a new to me author and I will be reading more of her books if they're anything like this book! TW: Child Neglect, Child Abuse, Rape, Attempted Rape, Kidnapping, Anger Issues, Violence and Murder.
Aubrey Davis is a survivor and was saved by being introduced to MMA. She gets a full scholarship and moves across the country from LA to Glenfield, Alabama.
Dax Hart is a champion underground MMA fighter with anger issues. When he sees a young woman being attacked he jumps in and gives the attacker a beat down and the woman isn't appreciative at all.
Aubrey can take care of herself and is underestimated all the time because of her size. But this guy with brilliant green eyes will find out soon enough.
Dax is drawn to Aubrey but she wants nothing to do with him until they are matched up at the gym to spar. She takes him down and he's impressed but he wants more.
They both have jagged pieces and broken hearts but when the pieces are fit together can it heal the heart and edges?
✳ My Review: . When I picked up this book, I wasn't in a mood of read dark romance, but this book was so good that I couldn't stop myself until I finished this. . The book has some good tropes- MMA fighter hero MMA fighter heroine Teeny tiny bit of love triangle Slightly slow burn The book is mostly in Aubrey's pov, but we also get some Dex's too. . The very first thing that I like about this book is the female character, Aubrey, she's really fierce, a real fighter and can knocks you down if you piss her off. Another Dex Hart, our hero, he's probably the most soft hearted MMA fighter, I've ever read. . And the romance, the spiciness, the plot is also good. . My only disappointment is that I wanted more of Dex and Aubrey together and mostly I wanted more of Aubrey in real actions, which was lacking in the later part of the book. . Except only this, I absolutely liked this book and would definitely recommend, if you are a fan of dark romance book.
Jagged Harts will have you hooked by the first couple of pages! Aubrey is one tough cookie. She is incredibly smart and independent! She doesn’t need a man or anyone else to help her through life. She is ready for a fresh new start thousands of miles away from where she grew up. Dax Hart is one sexy hunk of a man. He will have you drooling over him while he is in the ring! Finding a lady to be on his arm is not a problem for him, they are begging to be near him.
Definitely would recommend this sassy book for anyone who loves a good grumpy and grumpy trope!
I will forever be a huge fan of Katelyn Taylor’s work! She really has a way with words to get you begging for more! Can’t wait to purchase this book when it comes out!
Oh my god y’all this was so so so good! I’m such a sucker for fighter romances it isn’t even funny. Plus add in a little enemies-to-lovers action and you can just call me a spoiled girl. This one literally checked all my boxes.
When I say that Dax and Aubrey’s chemistry was off the charts I mean off the charts 🥵. Dax is definitely daddy. I loved how I could feel the pull between the two through the pages. Such chills!
Jagged Harts releases on June 30th! I highly recommend you check it out! There are some triggers but Katelyn Taylor lists them all in the beginning. Make sure to read that first! Mental health is wealth my friends.
I was very into this book from the get go. I’m a huge UFC fan so I loved the MMA and fighting aspect in this book. Dax and Aubrey were great together. Their relationship was cute. I got irritated with Cole a lot tbh lol but in the end it was all good.
I really enjoy Katelyn Taylor’s writing. Def recommend if you enjoy:
•enemies to lovers •MMA fighters •Jealous/possessive MMC •Bada$$ FMC
The narration was great. I personally was not a fan of the heavy southern accent on behalf of the male characters. To me it was very distracting. I think I would’ve enjoyed this book more if I did the ebook over audio. Regardless of my opinion, the narrators did a great job!
Thank you BNA & Katelyn Taylor for the review copy.
This was my first book by this author and I are loved it. It was overloaded with intensity and spice and I couldn’t put this book down from the start. Aubrey and Dax both had a dramatic past and together they found a solid ground and their forever.
Aubrey ran away from her home and from her past that’s been hunting her life. So when the bad ass MMA fighter, a player and every girl’s heartbreaker comes to the rescue they both feel the strength and chemistry that’s pulling them together. But will she choose him or will she keep herself guarded?
As I mentioned, I loved this story and if you like the intense story than this one is for you!
I've never read anything like that and I really enjoyed this. MMA romance, badass characters,Dax and Aubrey were everything😍 The connection, their chemistry, their cuteness.. Ughh❤️❤️ i really liked them, both with painfull pasts, fighting their own demons, untill they find each other and open up and heal themselves together.
Their scenes were so intense and sexy, but also cute and funny sometimes, Aubrey was so sassy at the beggining, surprising Dax who never faced similar behavior from a girl before but eventually fell in love with each other.
They had me hooked, I've read it in a couple of hours. Totally recommend it 🦊
I have never rated a contemporary romance five stars before. This one hit me with a surprise left hook, so to speak 🥊😂 From the beginning, I fell in love with each of the main characters and their believable personalities, actually feeling real pain and sadness for them and their traumatic backgrounds. Their development arcs left me proud of all of them, and when the book ended, I had a hard time remembering that they weren't actually all real people. The relationships in this book were so true-to-life and wholesome, and there was no lack of spice. I really loved this story 🖤✨ I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This story revolve around Aubrey and Dax both with tragic and traumatic past. I loved Aubrey. Her no shit attitude is something I one day hope to acquire. Other than that she's strong, badass, sexy, smart, outspoken, independent female. Her character development is done so beautifully that by the end of each chapter I started loving her more and more❣❣. She started of with "Bree doesn't need no man" attitude. But the way her and Dax's relation develop is just amazing. It doesn't feel rushed at all. They both took their sweet time to open upto each other and trust each other. DAX on the other hand is an underground MMA fighter with control issues that has a lot to do with his past. He is strong with hard exterior but broken soul. They both were like a missing piece of each other that just found their place and filled each other's void.
They both helped each other mending their broken part and by the end they came out as one strong couple and individuals..
And that EPILOGUE was the perfect way to end AUBREY & DAX's story...
The writing isn’t fantastic and it needed some more time in editing. The first half was kind of a slow build and then the second half was really rushed. There are some typos and I really dislike when authors don’t use contractions in dialogue - it’s reads as choppy when they are saying things like “I am not too into football.” vs “I’m not into football” (I know it’s nitpicky).
While the FMC was mildly irritating, I do appreciate how she overcame the trauma in her past.
I absolutely devoured this book! Dax & Aubrey were both strong ass main characters. Both being MMA fighters alone made them bad ass but everything they’ve both been through— & came out on top made them even better 🔥🔥
Aubrey was exactly what Dax needed to break his walls down & help him be the badass fighter he deserved to be. & Dax was exactly what Aubrey needed to face her demons & move forward ❤️
