Colton Adler was one hundred percent off limits up until the night we shared together nearly two years ago. Both of us forged a deal between illicit touches and unrelenting kisses.
A secret.
A promise.
A vow made to one another that we would never be anything more than the one night.
Regardless of the feelings I still harbored for him, I understood Colton could never truly be mine.
Since then, we’ve kept our secret buried deep, pretending as if it never happened at all.
But now, after attending my brother’s wedding, Colton was a flashing wave of hot and cold. One minute he was teetering on the edge of giving in to false promises of a forever with me; the next he retreated, reminding me once again that I would never truly be his.
Secrets aren’t meant to be kept forever and it didn’t take long for me to learn I wasn’t Colton’s only one.

OMG THIS WAS EPIC! I live for slow burn, and second chance and Colton & Vadas story didn't disappoint. The tension between them, the heart palpitating secrets, the steamy scenes lit my kindle on fire. This book was everything I love in a romance.
Vada and Colton had a night that they've kept a secret since. She's had to torture herself being around him every day since he's her brother's best friend and business partner at their restaurant, but she's done there now. It means she won't have to be around the man she can't get out of her system, but now she'll be able to. Right? Wrong. Colton says he can put her first now. Is he really able to or will Vada always be second in line to Colton's secrets?
The Secrets To Heartbreak is heartbreaking indeed. Colton and Vada's story is emotionally complicated with so much pain and secrets that it's a wonder they ever managed to finally wade through it all and fully connect. I really liked Vada's brother Dallas' story, but I love this one, it's got me all impatient for the next story in this excellent series.

“That’s the thing about secrets. They aren’t meant to be kept forever.”
This book was EVERYTHING and I would give it all the stars!! I love an emotionally charged story where the chemistry crackles on the page and The Secrets to Heartbreak fits this description to a tee. I was consumed once I started Colton and Vada’s story and read the entire thing in one sitting.
“Your touch is like an invisible tattoo, Colton. You’re etched into every inch of my skin. It never disappears.”
I loved Vada. She’s strong, independent, and feisty, but underneath she’s afraid of always being second best. Her feelings for Colton were strong and true, but it was difficult for her to get over her fear of being left behind.
“She’s always seen me for who I am, even through my flaws. I’m perfectly imperfect when it comes to her.”
Colton was struggling with his feelings for his best friend’s little sister and he didn’t think he was good enough for her. His parents have high expectations of him that he can’t live up to coupled with the death of his brother have left him damaged.
“I’ve loved you since the moment we met. You’ve healed me, you’ve wounded me…you’ve marked me, you’ve ruined me.”
These two together are the definition of push and pull. They were like magnets that couldn’t stay away from each other but yet they always pushed each other away. The angst and emotion was palpable between them and you knew they were meant for each other. Their relationship grew and changed and evolved throughout the story and I think they had to go through what they did in order to become stronger individually before they could be together.
“Being with Vada makes my heart want to jump out of my chest. She gives me tunnel vision. Nothing else matters when I’m with her.”
The journey that Vada and Colton traveled was difficult, painful, messy, and heartbreaking, but the end result was so uplifting. The depth and emotions in the story were beautifully chaotic and the characters were so well developed. You could see their growth over the course of the book. I loved each and every moment of this story and I’m counting the minutes until the next book.
I’m really enjoying this series. It’s emotional and so worth the journey! Vada is going back to her writing career since her brother doesn’t need her at the restaurant anymore. It’s a great move for her, she gets to do what she loves doing and she won’t have to see his business partner everyday. The same business partner that she had an amazing night with and is extremely drawn to. Colton has a lot going on in his life he opened a restaurant with his best friend, he is getting his MBA, his father is always riding him about his choices and he has a major thing for is best friends sister. This was a great emotional quick read. It was well layered and had amazing depth. The characters were well developed and told a great story. I was Surprised by a few twists and can’t wait to see what happens next!
Oh this story will hit you hard with the feels. Not only is there the story between Colton and Vada but there is an underlying back story that will make you wanna cry. It is raw and emotional but it also plays into the relationship that these two have. While they have some history, Colton always held back when it came to Vada. But the flood gates open when things are exposed. My heart hurts for Vada as she tries to navigate everything that Colton throws at her. But in the long run, these two are just stunning together regardless of the journey that got them there. I am really looking forward to the next book!
I love this book so much! It has everything that I love in it. Slow burn ✅ Second Chance ✅ Brother’s best friend ✅ All the angst ✅ Very steamy scene’s ✅ Chemistry ✅ and much, much more. I am still feeling a high from this book!
Colton Adler was absolutely off limits. He was Vada’s older brother’s best friend and business partner. But that all went away one night when they both crossed a line that they shouldn’t. They both agreed to keep their one night a secret but can they really stay away from each other?
I was so excited to read Colton and Vada’s book! I loved reading about them in The Rules of Heartbreak and loved their relationship with Dallas and Sloan. I really loved their story and all of the angst that came along with it. But the reason why I gave it a 3.5/5 but up it to 4/5 stars is because they both took so long to admit their feelings for each other. The attraction is there and you can tell that they want to be with each other but there’s so much going back and forth between Colton and Vada. I just wanted them to be together so bad! Overall I really did love their story and I understand that everything they had to go through just made them understand each other more and also made their relationship stronger.
Ok Brittany, I see how you’re gonna be! First, you get me all worked up with that one night, one time secret in The Rules of Heartbreak and THEN you drag me through the cruelest slow burn that is filled with emotional turmoil that hits in all.the.feels. Not to mention the secrets that seemed to continue to add up. I mean I get it, Colton and Vada were both fighting demons from their past so it’s understandable that their present is still quite a mess. Adding that into their red hot chemistry/attraction and things were bound to implode eventually but I still wasn’t expecting what was ahead. The one thing I loved the most about this story is that it felt organic. Colton and Vada were working on themselves and working toward their future each step of the way. And while there were some mighty roadblocks they still got their HEA, they just had to fight for it and it was definitely worth it in the end.
Colton is Vada's brother's best friend - and her one time secret. After spending a night together while grieving the loss of her sister in law and friend, they agree to keep their night a secret.
But just because you can keep a secret, doesn't mean the feelings go away. Colton promises Vada that when he's done school he will give her the time she deserves...but life happens and sometimes we don't keep our promises.
Colton is full of secrets. With his family he has to be. When he finds out an even larger secret, it threatens to ruin his relationship with Vada.
I loved Colton and Vada. I think they had a bit of growing and healing to do, but they're good for each other. Vada frustrated me a few times, but with her past I can understand her reluctance to trust Colton.
I loved the side characters, and I can't wait to read about Cassidy's story next!
Fab read! Colton and Vada want each other, the only thing getting in their way is Secrets. If you have read the first book (Dallas and Sloan) you get to see a glimpse of these two, but this book had me sucked in from page 1. The chemistry between these 2 is 🔥! Colton is torn between trying to please his harsh parents - mainly his Father- and trying to live his own life which includes being with Vada. I really felt for Colton when he stumbled across a secret, and i was really rooting for him and Vada, he just wants to be happy ♥ He will have you falling for him from the get go, i loved it! Ending was perfection!
Honestly, this book would have gotten more stars from me, but I just cannot get past the "miscommunication" trope. It's probably my least favorite romance book trope. I get it, there wouldn't be a story without it, but come on people. COMMUNICATE with each other. The 2 main characters in this book just internalize everything for absolutely no reason. Just talk with each other.
Still worth a read, but just be warned that you'll feel like yelling at the 2 main characters to open their mouths and TALK.
In The Rules of Heartbreak, we catch a glimpse of Colton and Vada's mutual attraction...but will they or won't they? He's her brother's best friend and the one she can't seem to forget about. I couldn't get enough of this story. I loved the way things were shaken up with a little twist.
Oh my goodness! I LOVED this book. So well written and such great characters. I loved this sequel, even more than the first. Sloan and Dallas were a great story, but Colton and Vada were fantastic as well. As side characters to Sloan and Dallas, we got a brief glimpse of them, but this book made them so real. The storyline was great, and just when I thought I had something figured out... I realized I had it wrong... it came to me right before I flipped the page. This is Brittany's best book yet. Wish I could give it more stars. Can't wait to read more.
I don't know why this book didn't really do it for me.. maybe it was the mood I was in at the time, or the fact that I felt these two just both needed to be slapped upside the head so they would finally see what was in front of them, but either way it was really hard for me to connect to both Colton and Vada for a while, but i truly did end up liking them both. They both had so much pain and secrets that they were keeping from each other and everyone else, and I am happy they got their hard fought HEA. I just think it took too long to get there.
**I received an ARC of this book and these are my honest opinions **
I thought I was going to enjoy this more than I did because I liked the first book but I did not like this book. I almost didn’t finish it but forced myself to keep reading it. I just hated how bad he made vada feel but like never groveled at all. No matter what he did or how it made her feel she just immediately took him back. Like after she ended it, it took him 3 fucking weeks to put her first and tell her he loves her. And she just took him back immediately. Like the whole book he just used her when he wanted to but never put her first at all or even tried. I just hated how fast she forgave him and got back with him just a little too soon for me.

SECRETS OF HEARTBREAK is the second stand-a-lone in Author Brittany Taylor’s Heartbreak series, and I had been anticipating the arrival of Colton and Vada’s book. It’s every bit as intense, every bit as emotional and every bit as unputdownable as RULES OF HEARTBREAK was, and once started, my backside didn’t move from the seat until I’d finished reading. For me it was that good!
This book also had a very different ‘feel’ about it that I can’t describe. There was a lot more going on around Colton and Vada, but it was all necessary to in order to appreciate the internal struggles that they both dealt with. My heart hurt for both in that they did love each other but the walls and the doubts 💔 Ms Taylor did such a beautiful job in writing their emotions.
Colton’s behaviour was quickly explained when we met his Parentals. An overbearing and critical father and a mother who was merely a shell that reflected the personality of her husband. I just felt she had the saddest of lives especially as they’d all just suffered a huge loss, making his father more dictatorial than ever. That house would’ve been the worst to have grown up in and I understood him so much more.
Vada’s emotions and personal fear spoke to my own. We all wear a mask, and carry fears close to our hearts, and hers was of always being second. Second best, second choice and of course, second chances. It seems she was always offering those to Colton even as she’d told him that it was time for all or nothing. I was worried if she would ever get to putting herself first. And even as they seemed to move in the right direction together, the shifting sands of security never seemed stable beneath her feet. It seemed that Vada was always looking beneath people’s facade and second guessing their motivations. Some might have thought her flighty and unplugged, but I believe her misgivings were written perfectly.
I also need to point out that Ms Taylor has become very accomplished in the art of writing some pretty damn hot ‘scenes’ between her characters 🔥 I’m totally *nudge, nudge, wink, winking* like crazy here because the heat and the chemistry between Colt and Vada were ramped on high 😳 I also loved hearing more from Dallas and Sloan as their relationship continued to move forward from RULES and the character set ups for Cassidy and Levi were perfect. Cassidy featured quite heavily in SECRETS in a tragic twist that I just loved, and it has me wanting to actively stalk Ms Taylor for more until their book is released in October 2022.
Forgiveness and redemption, this is a time where ‘second’ is a good place to be. A second or more chance at forgiveness, or of realising where a dream truly lies. Where a second chance to repair an almost unsurmountable fracture within a family and the soul deep hurt of a mother is forgiven and healing can begin.
Ms Taylor has put together a story that is bigger than her main characters. SECRETS TO HEARTBREAK is not just a romance about a couple, it’s about family heartbreak and family secrets, and at the end of the day, it could all be boiled down to the selfish actions of one man. How we treat people has wide ranging and exponential effects on the lives of others. Hell, after reading this book, I’d be surprised if Ms Taylor didn’t own up to an interest in Psychology or people watching!
I started and finished this book in one evening because I couldn’t put it down. Magical words infused with vision and emotion, SECRETS TO HEARTBREAK is a 5-heart-healing-Star read for me 💔💖✶
I love a good secret-crush book, and Colton and Vada's story did not disappoint. I really loved the emotional angst of Sloan and Dallas' story and was wondering how Colt and V would compare. It was totally different and didn't hit me in the gut the same way, but just as good.
Colton has lived his life to meet other people's expectations. There has always been an attraction between him and Vada, but he's kept her at a distance. Two years ago, they had a one-night-stand when they were both grieving their friend's death, and neither one of them ever really got over the other. But Colton doesn't see himself as relationship material and kept coming up with excuses as to why he couldn't give Vada anything more than friendship.
Vada and Colton agreed to keep their one-night stand a secret from their other friends, and doing so just made the tension between them more intense. And just when they go public with their feelings for one another, yet another shocking secret threatens to rip them apart. I LOVED that twist in this book because I thought the story was going one way, and then it went in a completely opposite direction and I loved the angst that it added to Colton and Vada's relationship.
This book was the perfect blend of sweet and steamy, with lots of maturing on the part of our hero. It took a while for Vada and Colton to work things out, but it ended wonderfully with an emotional HEA.
The Secrets To Heartbreak is the second book in Brittany Taylor's Heartbreak series and it is a standalone, but there is an ongoing story that started with The Rules of Heartbreak. It was great to catch up with Dallas and Sloan and see them move forward with their life together. I was very intrigued by that snippet at the end of Cassidy and Levi's book!
I received a complimentary copy and voluntarily left a review.
Ugh....Vada and Colton...where to begin!!!! At first I gave props to Colton for being upfront about what he could and couldn't give to Vada, but then he kept playing with her giving her pieces and then pulling back. The wishy washy really bother me as I was rooting for them since The Rules to Heartbreak. It takes Vada having a fake date for him to get his crap together and realize what he wants, and what he wants is her. I understand his brother died, but usually you lean on those, not run away...not everyone is the same though. His family being pretentious and gross really just made him take it out on Vada. Throughout the entire thing, I feel like she kinda just took all this crap from him because she loved him and knew deep down he was a good one. I feel like Colton didn't really know himself as he lived so long for so many other people. His parents, his brother, then when Hailey died for Dallas. He lost himself somewhere along the way. When he finally decides to live for himself he finally realizes his mistakes. I do like the time jumps, it makes the story seem real.
The story from the beginning once Jonah was introduced, I knew where it was going. It was just predictable which made the desire to read all in one sitting a little hard. I think I just read too much and thats why I picked it up so quick. I really love this authors work and my review would seem like I wouldn't give it a 5 star, but it is. Just because it kinda went left for me, its still an amazing story with great plot and characters.

Going into The Secrets to Heartbreak I was a bit nervous. I LOVED The Rules of Heartbreak, and I wasn't sure how Colton and Vada's story would go. As nervous as I was , I was also excited to dive in, and find out everything that happened. I had to know what these secrets were!
The Secrets to Heartbreak did not disappoint. Colton and Vada's story was fabulous. Every single moment of it I enjoyed. Even the part where I wanted to smack some sense into Colton's parents.
It had steamy moments. It had emotional moments. It had me wondering what was going to happen next! Basically I fell hard for these characters, and their story. Of course I also loved that we were able to reconnect with Dallas and Sloan as well.
Ryan's storyline tugged on the heartstrings quite a bit. Even more so when things were revealed down the line.
I do find myself wondering about the dads. Colton dad is problematic to say the least. Whereas Vada's just doesn't seem to exist. And so they piqued my curiosity a bit.
Bring on Cassidy's story because that sounds like it's going to be a doozy.
Wow, The Secrets to Heartbreak will hit you with all the feels. Colton and Vada have been in each other’s lives for long time now and one night they crossed that line and gave into their feelings. However, it was one night, which for both Colton and Vada that seems hard to forget. Colton and Vada continue to dance around each other, but the pull between these two is hard to ignore. Colton is finally almost finished with school and that means his time won’t be so occupied and Vada is finally returning back to her old job. However, life takes a different path that leads these two to try and move forward, but the what ifs are still there. Colton and Vada are thrown back into constantly being around each other and has you wondering if they will finally give in and take a chance on each other. The Secrets to Heartbreak will keep you on the edge of your seat with all the pent up chemistry these two have towards each other and add in the secrets that seem start to come about, will these two figure things out or will they constantly miss their moment? Don’t miss out on The Secrets to Heartbreak!
Having read The Rules of Heartbreak i've been looking forward to more from this author! As soon as this second book was announced i added it to my TBR list. I wanted to read it next. I picked it up as soon as i could and got right back into the Heartbreak world. I so enjoyed this second book!
Vada and Colton's journey was quick to capture my attention! One night changed everything for these two. I wasn't sure how everything was going to play out with these two and that got me into their story even more!
I couldn't wait to see how these two would tackle things in their lives. It isn't easy and i so enjoyed the way i felt so many emotions throughout with these characters. I was so glad that i got to dig deeper with Vada and Colton. The chemistry between these two was great!
With The Secrets to Heartbreak, Ms.Taylor has created such a good read that'll make you feel so much! I can't wait to dive back into the Heartbreak world with the third installment, The Troubles with Heartbreak!
*I volunteered to read and review a copy of this book from Wildfire Marketing Solutions / the author*
This book is about a second chance, brother's best friend, and friends to lovers for Vada and Colton. I sense a connection and a chemistry between these two when I read the first book so I'm not surprised when the book begins with an intro that gives us, readers, an idea what happened between them. But Vada has her issue so she doesn't want to be the second thought and Colton has another things to focus so he can't give her what she wants but when they are brought together for Sloan and Dallas's wedding, he also can't stay away from her. Their push-and-pull is torture and the tension between Vada's feeling and Colton's family issue make the story angsty. And when their situation seems to be better, the author drops a bomb into the story that causes their heartbreaks again. I understand Vada's feeling so I want to scream and strangle Colton for all of his reactions that give Vada's idea of abandonment but I think I'm more like Colton than Vada so I understand him too. Their love story isn't easy but it's a good one. And after reading two of Brittany Taylor's books, I think I get the idea of her twisted plots and secrets and I quite like it.
“Your touch is like an invisible tattoo, Colton. You’re etched into every inch of my skin. It never disappears.” -Vada
Secrets…they can bring people together or tear them apart?
Vada and Colton started their relationship with a secret, one they have both kept years later. Their circumstances and personal situations have always kept them at arms length from one another, constantly in the friend zone. They both feel a strong connection to one another and definitely see the other as more than a friend, but will the timing ever be right? Will that one secret lead to more or will it be the tie that binds them forever?
This is the second book in this series. We first meet Vada and Colton in book one. She is Dallas’ sister and he is Dallas’ best friend. They help each other through so much but never fully commit to being more than friends! In this book we get to see their relationship evolve! Their journey to being happy is not an easy or short one, but love is always worth it!
"Your touch is like an invisible tattoo, Colton. You're etched into every inch of my skin. It never disappears."
Brittany Taylor did not disappoint with the 2nd book in the Heartbreak series, once again she not only produced her usual well placed steamy goodness, but she delivered a really mesmerising storyline. This is a brother's best friend story that can only be described as a rollercoaster of an emotional journey, both for Vada and Colton, each dealing with their own insecurities, which is why The Secrets To heartbreak is about them as individuals believing in themselves, as well as having faith in what they could have together, and that by keeping secrets it can cause pain to the other. I loved the surprise twist, which I didn't see coming!
Looking forward to the next couple I am sure Levi and Cassidy are going to be something very special too.
4.5/5... I absolutely loved Dallas & Sloan's story in The Rules of Heartbreak (book 1) & knew we would be in for a treat with Vada & Colton! Brittany Taylor brought it with these two! They share a one-time, passionate, secretive night that each hasn't been able to stop thinking about since.
But life happens & leads them in other directions for awhile, never being able to come together. The timing isn't right, but they aren't able to deny how they feel & the sexual tension was everything! The build up had me wanting to throw my kindle at times, but it is worth it! You can feel the chemistry between these two!
Brittany is a newer author to me & I am loving her writing style! Definitely recommend reading this. It's an easy read with some angst, a lot of passion & great characters!
I found Ms. Taylor through the "Heartbreak" books, and I'm so ready for more.
Emotional without any doubt. Wow!
Vada and Colton are harboring a secret. But can they keep it up?
Many things lead to heartbreak. Having known Colton for a very long time, she has been patient. Waiting for the time he promised her! Will these two find a way to heal hearts?
I didn't want to put this story down.
(This can be read without the first in the series, but It's so good, I highly recommend you do!)
Vada and Colton’s story was so sweet and kind of took me by a surprise. I was ready for heartbreak. I mean, their story is still heartbreaking at times and full of feels. It was an emotional roller coaster. But it was so good! Even though it's heartwrenching to wait as it's quite a slow burn. There are so many feelings going through me throughout reading their story. I seriously enjoyed their story. I couldn't put it down because I was curious about what was going to happen to these two and what are the secrets that they keep.
