This is an Independently Created and Unofficial Workbook and analysis of Lindsay C. Gibson's book Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents and NOT the original book. This workbook is meant as a companion to the original and should not be considered a replacement for the original.
In our Workbook, we will unpack the main points of Gibson's book and provide you with the opportunity to practice the lessons taught. Here you will find the following tantalizing sections.Chapter Overviews - Clear and Concise - Ment as a bird's eye view of the main theme and lesson of each chapter to be discussed.Goal Statement - So you know what you will be accomplishing at the end of each chapter.Highlighted Key Takeaways - A chapter breakdown of every key point and takeaway supported with detailed outlined commentary making for easy focus and referencing.Check for Understanding - Test your knowledge of the information covered.Self-Reflection Questions - Designed to help you gauge where you currently need help and practice.Action Step(s) - Created to encourage you to take real actionable steps to better implement the lesson of each chapter.Self-Evaluation - Intended as a way for you to evaluate your own progress with the action step and the chapter's lesson(s).Here are some reflection questions you will encounter in this workbook. Are you afraid of intimacy or the feeling of being vulnerable? If yes, then what is the thing that makes it uncomfortable the most? Have you ever felt lonely and the feeling that you do not have someone that understands you? If yes, then how do you deal with this feeling? Do you think it was easy for you to emotionally connect with your parents in your childhood? Are your parents obsessed with being perfectionists, or do they go with the flow? Do you have the freedom to express your true self in your life? We have truly taken the time to be very intentional with our workbook. Unlike other workbooks, we cater the questions and writing prompts to you the reader, and how you are progressing and relating to the information so that they can impact you on a personal level.
We do sincerely hope you get everything you will need with our workbook. It's simple but powerful. We encourage you to not give up on your journey to a better life and hope that we at Cosmic Publications can at the very least be a small part of that journey with you.
I thought this workbook was insightful and helpful to read concurrently with "Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents." What is making my review lower is the plethora of typos and grammatical errors throughout the book. Additionally, maybe this is just my social worker background coming through but I didn't like the leading questions for each chapter. I didn't like how the questions include the feeling or goal outcome that following the insight from that chapter could leave to. What I mean is I would have preferred questions like "How are you feeling/What are you recognizing in yourself after completing that activity" as opposed to placing the feeling or insight they want us to feel within the question.
All in all, I was able to take helpful passages, thoughts, and questions with me that make this workbook worthwhile in conjunction with the original book.
