Sirius cracked a well-practiced smirk, “Nice to meet you, Remus.” Sirius looked at his bandmates loading their equipment into Potter's car, “You wouldn’t happen to know a bassist, would you?”

Marauders Band AU - When the Marauders kick out their bassist, they ask local bartender Remus Lupin to step in. As the band gains success, Remus must navigate his new friendship with Sirius under the public eye.
(3.5 stars) I saw this getting so much hype online so I guess I was just disappointed? The first half draaggggeddd like I love a bit of pining but I also don't need to hear about every. single. look. Then the second half gave me violent whiplash like why was everyone changing moods every other sentence. Writing was good, everyone please get some therapy, Marlene marry me.
[3.5⭐️]wolfstar rly is so toxic -loved band! Marauders🎸 -writing was a bit flat at times, but the story and the canon like characters balanced it out - +haey1 captured the spirits of these HP charcaters nicely -but seriously sirius needs help -i repeat: wolfstar is so toxic i love them nonetheless
i rlly enjoyed reading this, however the writing felt kinda flat to me at times and the development between wolfstars relationship didn’t give me the angsty buzz or felt as slow burn to me as i anticipated. the found family made up for it however!
i LOVED all characters, especially marlene and oliver, but i wish we got more to see of regulus and dorcas since they’ve been mentioned a lot but only rlly showed up for a few pages.
overall a good fic, however i heard the sequel “ruins” the story so i will not be continuing (which is not that big of a deal since this one has a great ending already)!
Ugh, hab das eventuell an einem tag gelesen. Hab alles daran geliebt. Und again marauders/wolfstar-obsessed.
“This is important to all of us,” Sirius said as he shifted his gaze down to the carpet, “but I don’t have a backup plan. Peter has his government job. James has his rich parents. I don’t have any of that. All my cards are here. I can’t fail.”
“I didn’t know you were such a rebel, Lupin.” Remus crossed his arms, “You don’t me very well, Black.” “We should change that,” Sirius said, leaning in slightly.
Chapter End Notes i know nothing about music. i also don't have like a specific sound for the band, just roll with it. update-I've been told u cant start a song with bass. oh well update #2-apparently you can start a song with bass???
“How’d you get those scars, Remus?” she asked pointedly. There was clear tension in the room and Sirius looked like he was three steps away from murdering someone.
Halfway through his shift, he saw a familiar leather jacket at the other end of the bar and all the anger he had pushed down to get through the shift was bubbling to the surface.
“Afraid I’m gonna corrupt you?” Remus asked with a smile. “Well,” Sirius said. He blew out smoke and continued, “You can hardly say he’s wrong.”
“So you two are not dating.” “Nope,” Remus replied with a smile. “Not even a bit?” “James, there’s not a chance in hell I would even date Lily Evans. I assure you I am a very, very, gay man.” Peter choked on his water when Remus said this but otherwise remained silent.
“Then first of all-you are an evil creature to even suggest otherwise and if you ever play with my emotions like that again, I will not hesitate to cry. That is a threat.” Remus didn’t think it sounded like one, but then again, Remus would not know what to do with a crying James.
Remus wanted to laugh, “Are you being serious right now?” “I’m always Sirius,” he replied with a grin. Remus groaned loudly and sat down on the bed. “How have I not heard that one before?”
“Is it so hard to believe that I actually like you?” Sirius was staring straight at him. Remus wanted to scream. Sirius, as always, had no conception of what his words meant. “Scoot over, I need to practice,” Remus said in lieu of answering. “No, you don’t. You always sound great,” but Sirius moved anyway.
Before Sirius could start, Remus reached out and touched the black studs in Sirius’ ears. Sirius went completely still under his touch. “They look good.” “Yeah, thanks,” Sirius cleared his throat.
“Very Jay Gatsby of you.” Sirius hummed in response. “Who’s your Daisy? Mary?” “I already have Mary. Aren’t I supposed to have a green light?” Sirius was staring into Remus’ eyes. Remus became very aware of just how green his eyes were.
“You want me to come over to James’ house at 1 am?” “Yeah, I know it’s strange-” “I’ll do it,” she cut him off. “Send me the address.”
“Not sure it would be worth it,” Remus whispered and he knew they weren't talking about werewolves anymore. “For you?” Sirius said, “I would do anything.”
Remus wanted to scream in his face. He wanted to punch him in the gut. He wanted to grab Sirius’ face and press their lips together so hard that Sirius would forget his own name. But he did none of that.
As Remus was bending over to unload an amp, he felt a hand through his hair. Remus almost jumped out of his skin, but when he stood up it was just Sirius, “A warning, Padfoot.” Sirius’ face broke out in that crazy grin it always did when Remus called him by his nickname. “It looks nice. You did a good job.”
Without asking, he put his head in Remus’ lap and began to read. Remus tried not to freak, only with moderate success.
Remus ran a hand through Sirius’ hair to calm him down. “Honestly, Padfoot. I don’t care what people say about me on the internet. I never even see it.” Sirius reached up and traced a scar that poked out of Remus' collar. "I just wish they could see you the way I do," he whispered and returned to his book.
As long as they would have him, he would stay.
“Moony... Have I ever told you how beautiful you are?” His voice was low and soft. “I swear, your scars are like works of art.”
“So what the fuck happened that’s got you acting like a little bitch?” Sirius turned to look at him scandalized. “You’re proper shit at comforting, you know that?”
One of the bravest people I’ve ever met. Where’s that boy now?” Sirius’ eyes were locked on Remus, looking at him like he hung the moon and the stars. Sirius squeezed his hand tighter. “I’m going to tell you something that I’m pretty sure you already know,” Remus continued. “No one is going to save you. You have to start saving yourself.” In one quick movement, Sirius pulled him into a hug and held him like it was the only thing holding him together.
And if Sirius looked insanely attractive with a cigarette between his fingers, well that was just a completely platonic thing to notice. (Remus wasn’t fooling himself. He was still head over heels for the little asshole, but he was trying his best to get over him. So friends they would remain.)
“God, you’re a terrible teacher, you know that?” Remus was laughing which only made Sirius laugh too. Sirius then broke out into rapid fire French, “J'adore ton rire et je veux que cela ne s’arrête jamais.”
Sirius pulled back for a moment. “We can’t tell anyone,” he breathed. It was a red flag and one that Remus promptly ignored.
His neck and chest were covered in bruises and Remus liked knowing he was the one that put them there.
Black put his hands up in surrender, “I’m not that bad.” “Yes, you are,” James said. “Wanna talk about what’s on your neck?” Remus let out a laugh and quickly covered his mouth with his hands. Remus had been smart enough to wear a turtleneck-nothing out of the ordinary for his sweater-filled wardrobe. But Sirius’ leather jacket proudly displayed all his hickeys.
“They really think you guys are together,” Peter said. “Me and Remus?” Sirius said with a mischievous grin. “I don’t see it.” Remus had to take a sip of water to hide the smile threatening to breakthrough.
“I hate him,” Oliver said definitively. “No, don’t be like that,” Remus said. “Too late. Motherfucker broke your heart and now calls you drunk out of his mind. Who does think he is?” “He’s just struggling with a lot,” Remus said. “Stop making excuses for him!”
Unbeknownst to Remus, the video the woman took of his performance had spread across Twitter. Unbeknownst to Remus, it reached the cellphone of Sirius Black half a continent away. Unbeknownst to Remus, Sirius watched it three times, downed his drink, and watched it another time.
“Well, I could come over tonight, if you want. We could work on them together.” Remus looked up at Sirius who was smiling and looked almost nervous. “I’d liked that,” Remus replied and Sirius’ face broke into a wild grin.
“Look, I get it if you don’t feel the same way you did last month and I can’t promise it’ll ever be easy with me. I’m moody and erratic and I’m still working through a lot of things and I know I’ve been awful and I don’t deserve your forgiveness. But Remus, if you’ll have me, I’ll be yours.”
“Quit your complaining,” he said over his shoulder. “Make me,” Remus responded and was quickly guided away from the task at hand by Sirius’ touch on his back. Remus turned and was met with Sirius bringing him down into a bruising kiss.
“Regulus texted.” “Oh? What did he say?” Sirius pulled out his phone and read off of it. “You’ve made the news again. You’ll be glad to know you still find ways to drive Mum up the wall. Hope you’re alright.”

It was good, but nothing extraordinary. I have two complaints: 1) The build up of Sirius' and Remus' relationship was basically nonexistent. There wasn't really much angst or slow burn, which are things that I really like to see in Wolfstar fanfic. It was just too fast, they got together too fast and they overcame their problems in the relationship very easily (specially Sirius' internalized homophobia, it was like one day he had a lot of it and then suddenly he was just ok with being openly queer). 2) The progress of the band itself, it also felt like they got famous too easily and fast and after that they never really went through anything that felt high stakes. I don't know, maybe it was just me who felt like that. Anyway, it was still an interesting and fun fic, worth the read.
REVIEW OF (THE SEQUEL) THE WAY OUT: 2.5 stars I wasn’t as invested in the sequel as I was in the first one. I don’t know, the plot just felt a bit all over the place and the characterization of some characters wasn’t good. Also, the ending of the story (and of their relationship) was kinda rushed. This suffered from second book syndrome, where everything is kinda slow and just messy because you have to build up for the next book.
loved this so much! the concept was great and the writing was too!! one criticism I do have which I don’t even think is the fault of the author, more of mine, is that as the dynamic between sirius and remus went on I lost interest in it completely. also I feel as if jily were very prominent at the start, disappeared, and then popped up randomly near the end. I know it was wolfstar, but would’ve loved to have seen more of James and lily. Other than that I completely loved this fic and is definitely going on my favourites list :)
lloré, reí, grité, me quise tirar por un puente, revivir para volver a tirarme y después revivir otra vez. toda una montaña rusa que me ha destrozado emocionalmente, me lo leeré más veces? definitivamente
Bare yourself because this is going to be one hell of a review .Also I don’t know the author’s pronouns so I will use they/them .
For all the ones who don’t know this is a band au fic about the start of the marauders and their rise to fame ,it’s wolfstar center and there’s also background Jily and Dorlene .Now that I explained that I must say that it was an amazing fic ,it’s the third band au I’ve read ,after cadence of part times poets and pink lemonade ,and I must say all of them feel really different .This one feels less intimate ,it feels like you are reading more about the band and the music and the vibes than something else ,and I believe that here it works perfectly .
Wolfstar: This is one toxic wolfstar …again ,after reading all the young dudes I promised myself I wouldn’t read a single toxic wolfstar but here we are ,honestly I believe there’s not a big problem with them but after checking out’ the way out ‘I have to say that they have way to many issues ,this doesn’t make me love them less as a couple is just that I believe that here they aren’t really trying to get healthier they just kind of forget about their issues and carry on without even acknowledging them which is not good at all ,however I didn’t actually read ‘the way out ‘ so if you let me with only the information I had in ‘all my cards are here’ I believe they are fine just not the best .
The music and lyrics: This is probably the best utilization of real songs in a fanfic, I really don’t know how the author did such a good job with this but I felt the songs to my core ,I mean night changes ,talking to the moon, the cut that always bleeds ,grenade, parents ,why’d you only call me when your high and then scotty doesn’t know and mr perfectly fine ,since I finish this fanfic I’ve been listening none stop to the playlist and I just love it all so fucking much
Peter’s betrayal :Now this ,this is kinda the elephant of the room for this review because I just don’t believe it actually happened and I want to ignore it did ,it’s just been so long since I’ve read a Peter betrayal ,I mean the last one I read was in crimson rivers however that just doesn’t count at all so yeah ,I forgot how bad it felt and I just never though about it ,it’s just that I’ve been reading such amazing Peter characterizations that I just forgot he is actually bad in canon and you know a liar betraying cunt ,so it did hurt a lot .
The way out and why I won’t read it :After a series of internal though to myself and a talk to a friend of mine (props to Vicky my own human prongs ) I decided that I will undoubtedly not read this even it someone payed me for doin so ,and you might be thinking what an asshole right ,but actually I won’t read it because of my own mental health that it’s not to be fuck with ,I mean often fanfics help me get through shit however after that little bump in the road that was ‘art heist baby ‘ I can say that fanfics are not to fuck with ,and I just can’t go seeing wolfstar hurt each other ,I just cant .
At the end of it all and why I will read it :Now this ,I didn’t read the first chapters I only scooped through some conversations however the last bit got to me so I waited for the second chapter and when it uploaded I did read it completely and I must say what.the.hell , the whole writing of memories and just their conversations ,I did sob a little but I know it’s better than if I had read ‘the way out ‘, so that’s kind of why I will read it (also it’s allegedly a happy ending so yeah ) Finally the ✨ quotes ✨ :
-Sirius was the only boy Remus had ever met who never failed to make him laugh. The only boy who not just put up with his manic songwriting, but indulged him in it. The only boy who saw past the scars.
(I now realized that I didn’t mark most of the quotes of this fic because I started annotating it after I was like 75% in so that annoying ,sorry for this ,I promise this won’t happened again ,I mean my favorite part is going through the quotes and selecting my favorite ones )
Sirius reached up and traced a scar that poked out of Remus' collar. "I just wish they could see you the way I do," he whispered
"I'm going to tell you something that I'm pretty sure you already know," Remus continued. "No one is going to save you. You have to start saving yourself."
"J'adore ton rire et je veux que cela ne s'arrête jamais." "I don't understand a single word you're saying to me."
If he could save this moment and relive it a thousand times, he would. Remus' heart held more joy than he could ever remember.
It reminded me of why I loved Wolfstar so so much. It has the same vibe as Wolfstar in All The Young Dudes by MsKingBean89 and it was incredible. It’s also a great way to diversify one’s playlists if you want songs that are Remus or Sirius coded. I haven’t listened to any yet but I’ve read some of the lyrics and wow. Hats off to the author for either having such a wide knowledge of music or for the research that went into finding those songs.
It wasn’t my favorite fanfic ever but I had a lot of fun reading it.
