I really liked this quick read! It gives a lot of helpful ways to reframe your thinking about the work/life balance conundrum. I have even recommended this book for my Young Professionals book club that I am a part of.
DNF. I won a free Kindle copy in a Goodreads giveaway.
The title was the best advice in here. Mostly lauding her peloton and telling us to do all the things everyone already says to do but she does it without a unique or convincing take.
I received a free ebook version of this book from a Goodreads giveaway. Thank you to the author and publisher for my free copy.
This book took me a while to read, and that is partly due to the fact that a lot of it didn't really resonate with me or apply to me. I was excited when I first saw this book because I work in a job that theoretically lets us have a 30-minute lunch break every shift, but we often don't get to take that break because it's too busy or we feel too pressured to stay with our patients or help our coworkers with theirs to take the time to go eat. It's a job where, on busy days (as so many of them are), the absence of one person for 30 minutes can heavily impact the workload of the team and the care that the patients receive. And I often really need that break, and don't always get it.
However, this book is aimed almost exclusively at office workers. For those in a traditional business setting who feel pressured to not care for yourself, this book might be for you. But for everyone in health care, retail, food service, or anything else that doesn't fit into something resembling office work, a lot of the advice doesn't apply, particularly toward the beginning. That's not to say that the rest of us can't get anything out of this book; there are tidbits that anyone can use, and it's not all about your work day. I was just put off by the fact that the author never acknowledges how the main points of her book are geared toward this specific subset of the working population or may not apply to many types of jobs; she seems to act like the office environment (or the work-from-home environment) is The Workplace. It's a huge blind spot that society already has when it comes to so many other things (such as operating hours, holidays, and special events), and it was frustrating to see it come to light yet again.
And as of the pandemic in particular, the workers who are probably the most stressed, the most run-down, the most exhausted and overworked and over-burdened are not the office workers who got to sit at home and make sourdough bread all day. They are the "essential workers" who were working harder than ever during the Covid-19 lockdown. I'm not saying that office workers don't face stresses and strains; I just wish that there'd been at least some acknowledgement as to the limitations on the scope of this book's advice and target audience.
Again, not that there were no takeaways, but I had a hard time getting invested in the book when a large part of the beginning in particular didn't apply to me. And it took me so long to finish the book that I'm honestly having a hard time remembering many other details.
After reading every page, I can't stop myself to think over it & dig deeper into it.

🏢Mental Awareness has taken a crucial role is our lives and those around us. We are becoming more aware about the same though it's still developing.
🐣Though a Majority of people often seems to develop them in regards to their workplaces. Being aware about it alone won't do any good unless we choose to start working on overcoming it.
🍱The author of the book used to work for a non profit or startup where's she had wanted tu work and make a difference in the world but instead she felt deflated. Do to the logo work and high expectations from the coworkers and the management, she developed stress & anxiety.
🍱Although she managed to overcome them, even having a prolonged medical history since her childhood which itself is lifetime achievement & a milestone to achieve.
🍱The author holds bachelor's in biology and psychology and a masters in industrial and organisational psychology, which is the story of human behaviour in the walk please but doesn't deals with mental health. So in order to overcome that she studied & research about various studies.

The most interesting thing about the book is that after every chapter, there is a conclusion which reminds everything at once.
𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿'𝘀 𝗠𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗴𝗲 " The Author wants to give us a message that we always think about our work how can we be more productive, this or that but we forget about our health so she said that first we have to take care of ourselves which is more important than being productive.
𝗠𝘆 𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 I really like the way she narrates her own experience and other stories in an inspiring way which really motivates us. I cannot speak highly enough of this book and its ability to provide a fresh perspective on dealing with anxiety and stress.
The book demonstrates the author's proficiency through its compelling content and engaging style, making it evident to the reader that the author has put considerable effort into its creation.
Take your lunch break is an incredible reflection on an important issue to all of us: anxiety and stress in the workplace. Massomma Alam Chohan outlines the many challenges in the workplace that lead us down the path of career related stress. Not only this, she also touches on strategies for how to overcome these many factors. Self help books are not for everyone, but this book feels relatable to almost anyone. Highly recommend!
I think this is a fantastic book for people looking to improve their mental health. Massoma gives a lot of great tips on dealing with small problems in the workplace that before you know it could end up being large issues. The book also helps people before they reach rock bottom as it is very vital to someone's mental health. There is a lot of personal experience and hours of research that are wrapped in this book. I highly recommend this book to people as it has helped me.
When i first heard about this book, i was SO excited for the potential. & for someone who works in an cubicle office, I’m sure this book might’ve been more applicable. For me, working in a more secluded area, & not in the middle of COVID, this book was GOOD but did not have the application aspects i was hoping for.
Well written & with amazing knowledge & research packed in, but it was not the book I had thought I was going to read.
The title intrigued me as so many times we all forget to take our lunch break. it is really good book filled with great tips on how to target work-related stress and anxiety. The author did a good job of making the content relatable. Highly recommend it to everyone, even if you do remember to take your lunch break at work.
I received this book as a goodreads giveaway. This book is really geared more for someone facing workplace anxiety and stress. The tips are not bad, but are geared entirely at self driven changes. Sa manager, I was going for some more concrete tips, that I could apply with my team. I got a few, but it wasn't what I expected.
It is “meh” 🤷♂️ Good reminders of known principles to prevent or tackle stress and/or anxiety, nothing new, but the author covers the topics in a shallow way and through anecdotal personal stories. It is a light read, but written as a series of blog posts. I guess it explains the 1$ price on Kindle.
A good read! I loved the recent information about Covid-19 and new studies mentioned throughout the book. Lots of good points and helpful information for a better work and a healthier happier work-life balance.
This book started out promising and ended on a bang. Honestly, I could have skipped all chapters except the first and last and gotten just as much out of it. The majority of the book was missing practical applications of everything she talked about.
effective techniques for relieving stress and anxiety
Author does a great job of identifying different stress triggers and how to mitigate them. Several different techniques and simple strategies to deal with work related and personal stress.
A decent read. I felt that there were a lot of recycled ideas and theories from other self-help books I've read so it wasn't as nuanced as I would've liked. Overall, a good, quicker read.
If you are looking for a book to slowly introduce you to methods and tips to help you handle any level anxiety or stress associated with life or work in general, then this book is for you. If you have read lots of books on anxiety or stress associated with work, then this one might be a skip for you.
I loved the personal stories that the author shared about her experiences with anxiety and stress related to her life and work. They help give examples of how to relieve anxiety and stress that make the methods so much more personal.
I may have read too many books about struggling with anxiety and stress. For me, the book wasn't as helpful as I really wished that it was. However, that doesn't mean that the book isn't great or that there aren't kernels of gold that I will carry with me. For example, the sections regarding role ambiguity were exactly what I needed to hear and helped me understand why I had been frustrated with my role at work.
As someone that struggles with anxiety I thought this was a good book to remind me to slow down, and make sure my work/life balance is in good standing, and my priorities are straight.
Life is so fast paced and if we stand still for even a moment at work, people think we are lazy or not doing our jobs. It's ok to stop and take a breath, enjoy your lunch break, or get up and stretch now and then. Also everything is so centered around making money. Of course, it's what makes the world go round, however do we ever really enjoy what we are doing? It's important to find those moments in your work where you can appreciate the people you work with, clients, patients, etc.
