Even the art felt rushed and unfinished here, and numerous plot threads were just cast by the wayside.

If you love DUNE you’d probably be best served by not even bothering with this series, truth be told.

The final Volume in this Dune prequel book graphic novel series. Been a very enjoyable story over all, further cementing how great the Atreides are and how horrible the Harkonnens are and continue to get worse.
Highlights:
- Leto takes over as Duke of House Atreides
- Emperor Elrood IX passes away (poison assassination) and Shaddam IV becomes Emperor
- With everyone travelling to Kaitan for the coronation, the Harkonnens choose to cause an attack, making it look like Atreides started it so the Duke and House would be eradicated. With Jessica being born, the Bene Gesserit sisters need their plans for the Kwisatz Haderach to continue, so they leak the info about the secret alliance between Shaddam and the Tleilaxu to Duke Leto (without including the reason of manufactured cheaper spice melange). Leto uses the knowledge secretly and gets Shaddam to acquit him. Thus he is kept in power and able to follow the Bene Gesserit plans in the future.
- Rhombur and Kailea, of the disgraced House of Ix, are also granted amnesty... but not their father.

I wonder if they will run graphic novel versions of "House Harkonnen" and "House Corrino", the other two novels in the trilogy prequel to Dune. Would be very interested to read them if they did.

Recommend. The full 3 Volume series is good... though I'm sure the source material is amazing too.

More of the same stuff, following the same main characters and plotlines, with particular focus on House Atreides and Leto (this is their arc, after all), via the Harkonnen conspiration to pit them against the Tleilaxu and the subsequent trial.

The art is still good enough, though not outstanding, and the graphic novel continues doing a good job of adapting the novel, in a fun enough way.

Kiedy młody Leto Atryda staje na czele rodu, postanawia pomóc swoim przyjaciołom z planety IX i oczyścić ich imię. Idealną okazją wydaje się być nadchodząca koronacja Padyszacha Imperatora Szaddama IV, którego poznać można również w literackim sześcioksiągu Diuny. Harkonnenowie nie ustają w swoich dążeniach do władzy, a pomóc im w tym ma uknuta intryga, która ma na celu skłócenie ich przeciwników.

Moim zdaniem ta komiksowa trylogia świetnie dopełnia to co dzieje się w pierwszym tomie głównej książkowej serii, stanowiąc tło tych wydarzeń. Pojawia się tu wiele smaczków dla fanów, które jednocześnie wiele wyjaśniają odnośnie przebiegu akcji i poszczególnych sojuszy. Świat Diuny jest niezwykle bogaty, więc dodatkowa możliwość jego poznania zdecydowanie wypada atrakcyjnie. Odwiedziny kolejnych planet czy poznanie życiorysów postaci, które w Diunie są już dorosłe to zdecydowanie wartość dodana tej historii.

Ród Atrydów zawiera wszystko to, czego można spodziewać się po Diunie – intrygi, knowania, niepewność i emocje, które niesie ze sobą walka o władzę. Nie brakuje tu również galaktycznego rozmachu typowego dla tej serii. Uniwersum Diuny lubię coraz bardziej z każdym kontaktem i kolejnym ułamkiem historii, które poznaję.

Dzięki komiksowej formie ta historia się nie dłuży, ponieważ przedstawione są jedynie najważniejsze wątki. Wciąż jednak, całość nie zapewnia aż tak dobrych wrażeń jak literacka historia stworzona przez Franka Herberta. Całość jest świetnie zakorzeniona w znanym świecie, jednak brakuje jej tego „czegoś”, by być historią wybitną.

Nie czytałem preludium, dlatego ta komiksowa adaptacja dostarczyła mi wielu nowych informacji, które pozwoliły mi lepiej zrozumieć historię z pierwszego tomu sagi. Moim zdaniem ta trylogia świetnie sprawdzi się dla osób, które są fanami Diuny, jednak jak dotąd nie miały większej styczności z formami graficznymi – solidne wydanie ładnie będzie się prezentować na półce tuż obok książkowych odpowiedników.

Рівень політичних інтриг та дії просто зашкалює. Я лише встигала, не кліпаючи, слідкувати за розвитком подій💪

У цій частині, перед нами геть молодий Лето. Він не був готовий до нового титулу та обовʼязку, але що робить - треба вливатися в цю тусовку😁

Мене дуже здивувала поведінка матері Лето, але тепер я знаю історію того злощасного бика на стіні.

Цікаво, що станеться з КʼТейр Пілру - син іксіанського посла, що підпільно залишається на захопленій Тлейлакмом планеті Ікс.

Основні події коміксу – заколот Харконненів проти дому Атрідів, епічний суд над Лето та перед тим закулісні ігрища між всіма Домами. Раббан мене веселив - дурашка 😅 Бене Гессерит, як завжди думають про запладнювальну програму - вперті жінки.

Шаддаму так не терпиться зійти на престол, що він всіма методами намагається замʼяти справу з Тлейлаксом.

Мені дуже цікаво, що там у Лето буде з Кайлією та коли він зустріне Джессіку.

Пітер отримавши відкоша від свого улюбленого Шаддама, відчув себе зрадженим, але думаю, він має намір повернутися. Тим самим планує зайнятися Домінік Верніуса – законний володар Іксу.

Ох, все лише розпочинається…

Speaking as a n00b who has only seen the movies, I don't know if the close friendship with House Vernius or the vengeance promised by House Tleilaxu will bear any fruit for the future. Otherwise, along with the supposed prophethood of the planetologist, it's a buncha dangling plot threads with no real conclusion now that the comics are over. Even tho there IS written source material this comic's adapting from, I can only imagine they didn't want to continue the series what with the 2nd Villenueve film on the horizon so as not to muddy the waters of the public consciousness.
Otherwise, shows how young Oscar Isaac is still a respectable leader but with many targets on his back, and the hard-fought respect he earns in the royal court.

Anti-climactic, IMO, not bad story (though the script seemed thin). The art fit with the earlier books (as I recall), and the conclusion sets up several payoffs for Dune but ultimately I'm not sure it makes me want to pick up the novel.

Auch wenn ich nicht den Weg in die Bücher fand, muss ich sagen, dass es mir die Graphic Novels zur Dune-Reihe mächtig angetan haben. Um so bedauerlicher war es nun den finalen Band über das Haus Atreides zu lesen, denn für mich hätte es locker noch ewig so weiter gehen können.

Seitdem ersten Band zeigte man immer mehr von der eindrucksvollen Welt aus Dune und schaffte es dabei bekannte Charaktere und Geschehnisse leicht verständlich einzubauen. Gerade letzteres war für mich auch in diesem Band wieder deutlich spürbar, denn selbst die größten Hinterhalte wurden so gezeigt, dass selbst Nichtleser der Romane sofort wussten, wie alles zusammenhing. Dies zeigte sich besonders gut, als ich diesen Band mit 2 leidenschaftlichen Leserinnen der Bücher las.

Auch wenn alle 3 Bände stark zusammenhingen, hatte doch jeder Teil für sich ein eigenes Hauptthema. In diesem Band waren es vorallem Letos erste Schritte als Herrscher. Dass er dazu auch noch gleich die Schattenseite dieses Titels kennenlernen musste, kam da noch dazu. Ich fand dies unglaublich spannend und klebte deswegen regelrecht an den Seiten.

Doch nicht nur inhaltlich wurde wieder einiges geboten, sondern auch optisch. Man hatte zwar den bekannten Zeichenstil der Vorgänger, jedoch hätte ich mir hier auch nichts anderes gewünscht. Dev Pramanik schaffte es nicht nur die Planeten eindrucksvoll zu inszenieren, sondern auch den Charakteren eine Persönlichkeit und Emotionen zu geben. Man fieberte einfach mit und wusste stets wo man ist, da Wechsel zu anderen Planeten stets angegeben wurden. Wer also vielleicht nur den Hauch Interesse an Dune und dessen Vorgeschichte hat, sollte sich diesen Band, samt seinen Vorgängern, nicht entgehen lassen.

Fazit:

Müsste ich den finalen Band dieser Rehe mit nur einem Wort beschreiben, wäre es „WOW“! Das würde ich dann wahrscheinlich gleich 1000-mal hintereinanderschreiben, denn ich bin einfach davon fasziniert, was man hier erschaffen hat. Egal ob Optik oder die Handlung, man fesselte mich an die Seiten. Ich bin sehr gespannt, was man noch alles aus diesem Universum veröffentlicht, denn zu erzählen gibt es auf jeden Fall noch einiges.

Przedwczesna, niespodziewana i mocno podejrzana śmierć ojca Leto, wywróciła życie młodego człowieka do góry nogami. Nagle staje się on księciem rodu Atrydów, który musi zadbać o dobro swojej rodziny. W jego myślach kotłują się dziesiątki najróżniejszych pytań. Najważniejszym z nich jest to czy za śmiercią ojca stała jakaś nieczysta gra polityczna? Mocno podejrzane są decyzje podejmowane przez jego matkę, która chce, aby sprawa została szybko zapomniana. Leto nie musi zbyt długo czekać na uzyskanie częściowych odpowiedzi na nurtujące go pytania. Przekonuje się on, że władza potrafi być bardzo niebezpieczna, a polityka to bagno, od którego najlepiej jest trzymać się jak najdalej. Otacza go wszechobecna korupcja i niebezpieczeństwa czyhające dosłownie na każdym kroku. Wszystko to sprawka barona Harkonnena, który konsekwentnie realizuje plan pozbycia się przeciwników (teraz Leto). W swoich działaniach bardzo zdecydowany jest również Szaddam, który jest już gotowy do przejęcia tronu po swoim ojcu.

Sam zarys historii dość dosadnie pokazuje, że podobnie jak w poprzednich częściach na czytelnika czeka tutaj solidna dawka intryg, politycznych knowań, spisków i odkrywania mroków wielkiej galaktycznej polityki. Jest to również po części odpowiedź na zadane we wstępie recenzji pytanie. Duet Herbert i Anderson stworzył finał, który będzie dla czytelnika i fana uniwersum angażujący a co najważniejsze satysfakcjonujący.

Przedstawiona w albumie fabuła jest dobrze przemyślna i przygotowana. Jest ona oczywiście podana w swojej skrótowej komiksowej formie (tak, aby zmieścić się na ograniczonej ilości stron), jednak nie traci ona zbyt wiele ze swojej książkowej głębi i złożoności. Większość napoczętych wcześniej wątków zaczyna się tutaj łączyć w większą spójną całość. Twórcy dbają o to, aby dać czytelnikowi satysfakcjonujące odpowiedzi na najważniejsze scenariuszowe pytania. Doskonale zdają oni sobie również sprawę ze specyfiki medium, jakim jest komiks. Nie zabrakło więc tu należycie przygotowanej dynamicznej akcji. Przeskakujemy z planety na planetę, obserwujemy kolejne ważne wydarzenia, odkrywamy nowe sekrety/spiski. Każdy z tych fabularnych elementów jest odpowiednio dopracowany i na pewno odbiorca nie będzie czuł się tutaj zbytnio przytłoczony nadmiarem treści...

Duncan accuses the stablemaster of foul play that led to Paulus's death. The stablemaster was brought by Leto's mother' family. Leto begins to suspect she is behind this, since she never loved her husband.

Elrood finally dies of the poison delivered by Shaddam, making room for the latter to occupy the throne. He reminds the Tleilaxu to prioritize the secret development of a spice alternative. This worries the Harkonnens who currently control the spice trade. They devise a war against the Tleilaxu, while blaming House Atreides.

Shaddam invites the houses for his coronation ceremony. Leto decides to attend alongside Rhombur, to advocate for amnesty for House Vernius. Rabban uses a cloaked shih to make it seem like the Atreides attack the Tleilaxu ship. To gain time to prove his innocence, Leto invokes the trial by forfeiture, a very risky option that can lead to his house being disbanded. The Bene Gesserit need his bloodline for the Kwisatz Haderach, so they use their influence in his favor. They send him a vital piece of information - the secret and obviously unlawful alliance between the emperor and the Tleilaxu. If the secret is revealed, Shaddam risks losing the support of the Landsraad.

After surviving an assassination attempt that goes surprisingly unpublicized, Leto's trial begins. He realises that the proceeding are more politicized than he expected. Nobody is interested in the truth. The emperor himself, worried about Leto's message about his dealings with the Tleilaxu, asks the court to dismiss the charges and offers to pay reparations to the victims. Leto is thus exonerated. He asks Shaddam to rescind the bounty on House Vernius. The emperor accepts, but only for Rhombur and Kailea, not for earl Dominic. The latter is seen hiding on the South pole of Arrakis with his remaining followers, plotting revenge on house Corino.

Years before the birth of Paul Atreides, the lives of his father, Leto, his friend and mentor Duncan Idaho, and other familiar faces, are changed irrevocably when the Crown Prince Shaddam IV puts a plot into motion that will alter the entire Imperium.

It's fun to see the beginnings of the stories we're all familiar with. The politics of the Imperium, the hatred of the Harkonnens, and the machinations of the Corrinos, is well realised as usual, and actions feel monumental even if they're probably not in the grand scheme of things. There's a sense that things are only beginning here, and with two more prequel series to get through, I can only imagine they're continued over there too.

The artwork is mostly done by Dev Pramanik, who does a decent job, but things do decline as the series goes on - I think there's a fill-in, though it's hard to tell since each issue doesn't break down who does what, but there's definitely pages that look better than others near the end. I guess 12 issues in a row is a tall order, to be fair.

I'm going hard on the Duniverse lately, but I haven't been disappointed yet.

I wish I liked this series a little more. I was really hoping it would flesh out the likes of Leto and Baron Harkonnen, but instead they feel actually flatter than they do in the original Dune (Leto seems paper thin here). You see lots of familiar faces, but most of the dramatic tension in this series is drained by the fact that you know where all the big names end up come Dune, so the danger that befalls the Atreides or Duncan Idaho never feels tantamount to actual danger. That the plot runs between Ix and Caladan and Arrakis and the Imperial Capital (and other places! Don’t forget Geidi Prime!) just feels like too much for a mere twelve issues in three volumes. I think the characters that maybe left me most disappointed was Shaddam IV. That he’s conniving was already implied, but that he’s hoodwinked so easily and ultimately by the Bene Gesserit just seems too on the nose for his character. Seeing him be successful in any other believable manner beyond the murder of his father might have made the character a lot more threatening the series over.

Beautifully illustrated, and it does not suffer from the verbosity of the actual books (Frank Herbert used a lot of words but he packed in meaning and multiple plots, his successors just use a lot of words).

I Think this is fast becoming my favorite version of the prequels. It does not cure all their ills, but the kinks work out better in comics form than they do in novel form. The only criticism I have is that there is quite a bit of repetition between chapters, reflecting their origin as separate comic book issues.

I hope we will see a comicbook conversion of House Harkonnen and House Corrino — this is a better rendition of the Prelude books than the books themselves.

This was a decent end to the House Atreides trilogy. I have never read the books in which these graphic novels are based so I can't really comment on the source material. But as far as the graphic novels go House Atreides was an enjoyable extension of the core Dune world, if not amazing. Duke Leto was a good protagonist but ultimately not nearly as interesting as his son Paul, and the same can be said about this story on comparison to Dune. If you're a big Dune fan though this is a cool prequel and it is worth your time because it does flesh out the universe and still remains some of the magic of the core tale.

It's decent as a Dune prequel but only on a surface plot level rather than dealing with any of the themes Herbert explored in his novels. The art is ok. Where it really falls apart is in the writing. It's very disjointed with scenes and dialogue both feeling chopped up. I'm sure this mostly comes from trying to adapt the novel into comic form but the Dune comics that are coming out at the same time do a much better job. If the authors have any prior experience writing for comics, it certainly doesn't show here.

This is the final, climactic part of the three-part graphic novel series that’s based on the House Atreides prequel to the Dune universe that Herbert and Anderson worked on after Frank’s death.

Even back when I was reading the novels, I thought that House Atreides was a cracking read, and in fact it was the book that made me realise that all of the hyperbole about the prequels not being any good was just that.

It’s a fantastic read for Dune fans.

This story is pretty interesting and explains lots of the political landscape leading up to Paul's arc later on in Dune and Dune: Messiah. I enjoyed the art, even though it was not always the greatest. I always have trouble visualizing characters and settings when reading prose, so the graphic novel format helps to build the world aesthetic in my head. I will definitely be reading the prose novel version of this story at some point.

Nyilván szerves folytatása a másik két résznek.
És csak ugyanazt tudom elmondani róla: remekbe szabott képregény, mind a képi, mind a sztori oldalt illetően.
Bírnám, ha egyszer csak a teljes Dűne-univerzum meglenne egy ilyen kivitelezésben.
