Alien Abduction #15

Olivia and the Orc

Rate this book
An orc guard. A kidnapped human. A treacherous journey…

The last thing Olivia remembers is celebrating a friend’s birthday. The next thing she knows, she and her friends are being marched across an alien desert by a gang of small lizardmen - and one very large and forbidding green alien.

He looks like a terrifying orc, but when they’re separated from the rest of the group, the fierce alien is the only one who can keep her safe. He can’t speak a word of her language, but there are other ways to communicate…

Baldric’s job as a guard for a caravan of Sleestik merchants is just the kind he likes - simple and uncomplicated. Until they discover a cache of precious females. The Sleestik plan to sell them, but he is equally determined to protect them - especially the small curvy female with the fiery hair of the goddess.

When a tragic accident leaves them isolated, he sees no alternative but to seek the assistance of the tribe he left so many years ago. But will his people be willing to help him? And even if they are, how can he return Olivia to her friends when all he wants to do is keep her with him forever?

The books of this series are hit-or-miss for me, and unfortunately, this one is a miss. I was really starting to like the hero, Baldric. He was fiercely protective of the human female who landed in his care. However, the heroine... she pissed me off SO FREAKING MUCH!!

1. When abducted, be smart. Don't provoke your kidnappers. And if you do, authors can you please give some consequences? Olivia should have at least been smacked. I know this sounds horrible, but I would have smacked the shit out of her.
2. She was ridiculous. What about your absolutely pointless life and life experience prior to being abducted made you feel you were prepared to survive on an alien planet with your two human besties who were no real help either? Make sense people!
3. Too many other issues with this chick to even bother listing.

I still like this author's writing.

Low three stars.

I finished this last week and apparently forgot to review it. I rather suspect that I finished this last week and simply immediately forgot it. It's not that the book is necessarily bad. It's just that nothing about it stood out as special, and much of it annoyed me.

I'll start with a positive. Baldric is marvelous. He's kind and patient and trying to do the right thing.

Olivia, however, annoyed me from start to finish. And mostly, it was the author's fault rather than hers. It was the author who decided to make her go off and repeatedly do things too stupid to be believable.

I recently heard a quote that said, "I don't need my fantasy to be realistic, but I do need it to be believable." The idea is that I need to be able to read it and now be pulled out of the story too often with "I don't believe that character would do that."

This was the problem with Olivia. She impulsively ran off in suicidal endeavors so often that I grew to hate her. (The final straw was when she did so because she saw Baldric speak to another woman. The instant, 'I'm jealous, going to misunderstand, and not speak to anyone before doing something monumentally stupid and suicidal' stank so strongly of authorial manipulation of a plot and character that I literally almost DNFed the book).

All in all, I didn't hate the book. I just hated the heroine. I might be willing to give other books in the series a try if I could find legitimately free copies. I don't think I'd spend money on them.

This book straight pissed me off. The main human character was constantly contradicting herself and leading the port orc on. One minute it was “please, touch me and make me orgasm.“ The next minute “no, don’t touch me, I don’t like it.“ Then “kiss me.“ “Don’t kiss me.“ Make up your damn mind, b*tch. She never got any better either. Since she didn’t have a translator, the poor orc who is in love with her couldn’t even communicate with her halfway through the book. She didn’t finally give it up until the 55% mark. after the third time she ran away. The first time she tried to run away, she fell off a damn bridge and would have drowned in the river had the orc not jumped in and saved her from the strong tide. After that, she ran to get away a second time, where a giant predator almost killed her, and the orc had to save her life again! Now you would think the stupid bitch would’ve learned her lesson, but alas, she did not. Because she ran away a third time. She almost froze to death in the snow storm, and had the orc not found and rescued her AGAIN, she would’ve died. I cannot stand a stupid main character. Honestly, the orc should’ve just let her dumb ass drown. THAT would’ve been a happy ending in my opinion. He deserved WAY better. Especially since he was just a big teddy bear with a huge heart. Anyway, yeah, I really hated this book.

A new set of human women have been stolen from Earth and these aliens aren't going to know what hit them.

First up, Olivia and her green-skinned honey. Waking up on an alien world is rough, but Olivia and her friends have Baldric looking after them. Sure, sure, there's a bit of a communication issue seeing as how the humans don't have translation devices, but Oliva and Baldric manage to figure things out. It helps that Olivia is never really afraid of the big guy. For all his size and muscles (not to mention those tusks and green skin), she trusts him almost from the first.

On Baldric's end, he's fascinated by the curvy little alien who scowls at him so charmingly. When they get separated from the caravan and have to spend time alone, he becomes even more enamored of her. She's feisty and determined and he likes that about her.

A little danger, an alien world, a trio of women thrust into a rough situation, and an orcish alien who knows how to treat a lady right. I must admit, I like these aliens and their human-loving ways. *thumbs up*

Olivia and her two friends are taken and wake up on an alien planet by different aliens then who took them. She wakes to a giant green hot as all get out orc outside the tent. Baldric is taken by this small female.
He is put in charge of the three until he jumps in after Olivia. She was trying to escape and in the process falls over the bridge into fast moving waters. They end up a long way from the others and after many many attempts of doing things her way she finally start to trust and listen to Baldric. These two have a hard go of it at first since they don’t speak the same language but they find some language of their own. They both pick up each others enough to get most things across.

Crash-landing into a New Adventure

Olivia is alien-abducted with her friends Pandora and Quinn, crash lands while in stasis, and meets an ‘orc’ who becomes more than a friendly face. I loved how Baldric and Olivia learned enjoy of each other’s language to communicate- especially about kisses - until they can get a translator. The fumbled communication while they fell is love was so precious and sweet. An entertaining and exciting read.

This book was not what I was expecting. You see the word "orc" and think he'll be a savage and destroy things, etc.

Instead hero is a warrior who happens to be green and have tusks. He works as a caravan guard. Heroine even thinks to herself at one point that he doesn't act like she would expect an orc to act. (Thinks she could use some "ravishing").

They go to his village and she meets his brother and sister and everyone is nice to her.

This book was not as steamy as earlier books in the series.

SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER

I still liked the book. We find out heroine's two friends (who were also kidnapped at the same time) have been taken by 2 different aliens.

A slow start for me. It got better towards the 35-40% mark. I loved how cute their communication was. It was adorable to see them learning each other’s words. Olivia drove me slightly crazy with all of her poor decision making. But I still really enjoyed their romance.

🔥 “What a naughty girl… You enjoy your punishments far too much.”
~~~
Olivia and her friends are abducted from Earth. And the next thing she knows is waking up on an alien planet and a huge green Orc is staring at her. I loved her so much! She might be a little impulsive, which often gets her into trouble. But she is an amazing and loyal friend and such a compassionate woman. Even more, I loved her fiery temperament, stubbornness and strong will.
Baldric is a Daichin warrior, who’s left his people and now is working as a guard for the Sleestic traders. He’s one huge, strong, dangerous and lethal male. But there is so much more to him than his intimidating appearance. Baldric is so wonderful, kind, honorable and fiercely protective. And I quite liked his bossy side, too. I loved him so much!
I loved everything that happened between Olivia and Baldric. From the moment they met, their attraction was undeniable. And, even despite not being able to understand each other, I loved that they managed to find such creative ways to communicate. And their banters were quite fantastic. But what I loved most is that, although Olivia didn’t want to depend on anyone for fear of being hurt and abandoned, Baldric managed to prove to her that sometimes the best thing is to rely on others and that he’s a male who won’t let you down. And I loved how patient he was with her, giving her all the time she needed to accept him. Those two were such a fantastic match and the passionate moments they shared were very hot and deliciously naughty!
In addition, the worldbuilding and storyline were fantastic! I loved that we got to explore Maskah - with its huge deserts, snowy mountains and diverse inhabitants. And I really loved Baldric’s sister - she’s such a kind, supportive and caring female and so fit to be a leader. Even more, with everything happening in this story, I’m very curious to see what’s happened with Olivia’s friends, too.
Overall, the story is another wonderful addition to the series. It’s filled with adventure, action, danger, humor, drama, scorching hot romance and magnificent characters.
I loved it!
Is He Ready To Face His Past For Love?
Olivia and her two best friends, Pandora and Quinn, were abducted from Earth. The next thing she knows is waking up in the desert with a giant green Orc looking at her. The spaceship they were on crashed and the only reason they survived was because they had been placed in stasis pods.
Baldric is working as a guard for the Sleestic, a trading clan on his planet. He rescues Olivia and realizes that she is his mate. Of course, he can’t really claim her because the three women are officially owned by the Sleestic because they saw the wreckage first. Baldric knows it is illegal to sell the women but the Sleestic don’t really care, as long as they don’t get caught. Baldric is trying to figure out how to keep the women from being sold as slaves when Olivia makes a stupid move, running across a bridge over the river, and promptly falls in. Baldric jumps in to save her, but they end up separated from the Sleestic. He actually is glad they are separated, but Olivia demands they return to the Sleestic to get her friends away from them before they are sold. Baldric knows the only way to save her is to take her to the village where he grew up. When he left he vowed never to return. But as the weather turns bad, he is left with no other choice.
I love how the relationship between Baldric and Olivia develops. At first Olivia can’t understand anything he says, and it’s really cute how Baldric gets creative with sign language. Even as Olivia is trying to get back with her friends, she is also falling for Baldric and will need to make some hard choices. An excellent book!.
This was a great addition to the series! Although it touched on some serious issues, it never got too dark that I lost enjoyment. It stayed at a very sweet and romantic level throughout the story. Very easy to read and light. The story moved along at a nice pace and had a good amount of world-building and adventure, but the romance remained front and center. I adored the language barrier at first and the rawness of Baldric and Olivia's relationship. Steamy, cute, and a great read! I really enjoyed it. I'm super excited for the next one!
Olivia is someone who, despite being pretty much abandoned herself, makes sure that her friends are never in the same situation nor feel unloved. She tries to be their champion and protector. The three girls are having a weekend together when suddenly a very strange being arrives and grabs them. When they come to they are definitely not in Kansas any more, not at all. Nor are they with the original aliens that took them. Being in stasis has affected them rather badly bit it seems that despite the appearance at least one of these new aliens is trying to look after them, even if he does seem to be a brutish Orc. Baldric, the Orc is called Baldric ( I would have loved him regardless just because of the name, unlikely it has anything to do with Blackadder but still). He is deeply frustrated with the language barrier that prevents him from communicating more fully with the fire-headed, small, snarly and soft human woman. There is just something in her that calls to his soul. Communication which would have helped when they took a tumble off the bridge and in a number of following situations. All she seems to want to do is get back to her friends and all he wants is to keep her with him, safe and happy. Now, he is in the one place he never wished to be again all to please her. Can he let her go when she gets back to the others? Would anything make her stay with him?
This was a great book and the storyline had all the elements that I love in a story. Olivia and her best friends Pandora and Quinn are out celebrating when they are abducted and now wake up in a spaceship that crash landed on a weird planet and a big green alien Orc looking at her and her friends. Now they are being taken by lizard men and the Orc that found them to gods know where but Olivia has other ideas and after an incident she makes her escape but the Orc is hot on her heals and now they are separated from the others and need help to save her friends before they reach the city to be auctioned off. Baldric is an Daichin guard and an Orc who has taken a job to guard a caravan for the Sleestik merchants and while scouting ahead he finds the females in a crashed spaceship and the fiery red head has captured his attention but she doesn’t understand the danger they are now all in because they will be sold off at auction. Now the redhead try’s to escape and I chase after her and we get separated and to save her friends I must ask for help from my old tribe but I’m not sure they will and I’m not sure I want them to because I want to keep the red head for myself. There is heaps more to this book that has the reader glued to the pages and is a must read.
I love Ms. Philips’s books, they are always full of funny moments, action, romance, and there is always this great chemistry between the characters; and of course, most books will come in a set of three 😊
Olivia is spending the weekend with her best friends when they all get abducted. She wakes up on a desert planet and learns that her kidnappers crashed, and a passing caravan is rescuing them. Even though not she or her friends can speak the language, she knows the “rescue” comes with a price, and that they will most likely be sold and enslaved. Baldric is out of H; he is working as a guard for the caravan; when he sees Olivia, he knows he cannot allow the caravan owner to sell her, not her friends.
After being “rescued,” Olivia and her friends are being transported to the market, most likely to be sold, but she and Bladric get stranded and start a race against time to reach the caravan and rescue the other human females. I loved Baldric and Olivia’s relationship, how it develops, how they complement each other, and how they learn to trust and rely on each other.
I cannot wait for the next couple.
Olivia needed a keeper, honestly, lol, because Olivia was one of those characters that you either loved or hated on first meeting her. But she grows on you. Baldric had so much patience with her, but he was smitten from the beginning. Olivia kept needing saving from herself in like every impulsive situation that she put herself in. It reminded me of having to constantly redirect that one puppy that knew just where to find trouble while the other ones napped peacefully. I could relate to her though, because, yeah, there's no fun in looking before you leap anyway, lol. The Sleestik, I kept thinking of that old TV show with the Sleestacks, and if that was the author's inspiration with the creeps, then kudos for that, because I really loved to hate them as a kid, lol, and that feeling remained. I absolutely loved how Baldric was all in from the get-go, but Olivia was totally in her own head and oblivious. This book was fun to read, worth the wait, and now I'm impatiently awaiting the next books to come to see what happens with Panda and Quinn!
Finally the next installation!!!!!!
I have to say that I am most annoyed with Olivia...I understand wanting to know where your friend are and that they are safe but how many times does a guy have to save you before you stop thinking he is gonna kill you, sell or abuse you. The Orc in the story made me love him from the moment he was introduced. He struggled with his need to be with her and letting her grow accustomed to him.
I will say that eventually she made me like her because she realized she was falling for the Orc and that what was on Earth was not on this planet and she was loved, protected and wanted.
The Orc finally accepted that he could be apart of his tribe without having to be Chief..the best person for the position was his sister..and his mate showed him that.
What I love most about these types of books are they teach a lesson, if you are willing to listen.
The lessons in this book are everything is not what it seems..and home is not where you are but who you are with and sometime what you think you are running from is what you are running to.
Olivia and her two friends are abducted by aliens and the next thing she knows is that they are being marched across a desert by a group of aliens with the friends being guarded by a large green Orc. Then Olivia and Baldric are separated then even though they cannot speak each other's language he is all she has to keep her safe. He then seeks the help of his old tribe but will they be willing to help them and how can he return Olivia to her friends if he wants to keep her with him forever?
I liked this story which showed that even aliens have problems with the leadership conundrum of Baldric's home, the alien abductors, the traders and the greed for profits. I loved that even with the language differences they were able to communicate and that Baldric was able to tolerate and even sometimes anticipate her attempts to try and find her friends or escape. Easy to read and understand. I'm sure they will have a challenging life with the sassy Olivia and her strong and determined Baldric. Contains some mature content.
This story has everything. It's sweet, easy to read ( the flow of the story is good), steamy romance, action packed with intrigue and mystery.
Olivia is a strong person. She has been taking care of herself for a very long time. Getting away with her two best friends and being abducted by aliens was not in the agenda for the weekend. She is defiant and at the same time vulnerable.
Love the chemistry between her and her Orc , Baldric. She accepts her "attitude" with a smile.
Baldric is a guard for a caravan that came across the crashed ship. Strong, loyal to Olivia and great with figuring out Olivia.
This is a standalone. I have not read the other books in this series. Wonderful HEA. Well written. The story made me smile several times.
There's enough cultural overlap between Olivia and her orc that they are able to just barely make do with the communication barrier with motions, hand-signals, and crude drawings. She is forced on an adventure of both the familiar and unfamiliar, and balancing impulsiveness with wisdom; she needs to find her friends and try to get them back home to safety, but she has to be sure she survives to do that.
Baldric, her orc, is understanding and level-headed. He makes efforts to understand Olivia and her friends as well as looking out for their well-being. He sees that Olivia is physically more frail than he is and unfamiliar with this world, but doesn't see himself as the hero who has to help the female who tags along, but rather as a guide to help her find them. And kisses.
I really like this series!
Each book is different enough to keep things fresh but it's nice to return to the same universe where we know the rules and the rule-breakers. Olivia and Baldric were a lovely couple. The author balanced Olivia's impetuous (reckless) nature perfectly because just as I was starting to get irritated with her rash decisions, she started to calm down and think a bit before acting. Of course, no I'm desperate to hear Pandora and Quinn's stories and hopefully catch a glimpse of Olivia and Baldric again a year or so down the line? I really love how this series almost has a few mini-series within it because you get to know a group of women and then zoom in on their experience before zooming back out to the wider Kaisirian Empire. So when's the next book out?
Olivia and Baldric
Waking up groggy Olivia finds she and her two friends have been abducted. The ship crashed killing their kidnapper but now they have been “acquired “ by another group who plan on selling them as slaves. The are guarded by what appears to be an Orc, tusks and all.
Baldric, the Orc, wants Olivia but he bides his time trying to figure out how to rescue the three earth women. He knows Olivia will never go anywhere without her friends.
Olivia falls off a bridge into the river below and Baldric jumps in right behind her. He finds her and drags Olivia to shore. The rest of the story unfolds while they travel to the city where the slaves will be sold.
The rest of the story is how they learn to communicate and fall in love while on the hunt for her two friends.
Enjoyable story. I’m sure we will see the two lost friends in their own books soon.
I was greatly looking forward to reading this installment in one of my favorite series, but I did not enjoy it as much as I have the previous books in this series. Much of the plot hinged on the heroine making foolish or bad decisions for all situations, and that just happens to be one of my least favorite things in a novel. The hero was sweet and doted on the heroine, which I appreciated. The heroine…was in the habit of making the worst choice possible in any situation. I prefer more thoughtful protagonists. The world building was deft and spare, which fit perfectly in this shorter story, and I liked the side characters. I would recommend the other books in this series over this one, because it has been a consistently delightful series as a general rule.
Olivia, Panda, and Quinn are the best of friends. Before waking up in the warm sun, the last thing she remembers was being abducted from the winter cabin where the three of them were staying. Olivia was the protector of the bunch. She had to find Panda and Quinn. She fell out of the tent at the feet of one of the biggest, hottest, and greenest males she had ever seen.
Baldric didn't know what to make of the little human. All he was sure of is that she is his. She has no fear. She's impulsive and runs straight into trouble. She is also extremely loyal to her friends. Could she ever be that loyal to me? I hope so because I'm keeping her.
Another Honey Phillips winner. Guaranteed HEA!!!.
Loved it
Baldric discovered the crashed ship while scouting ahead for the trader caravan he was guarding. His greedy boss sees dollar signs but Baldric only has eyes for Olivia. Determined to protect and look out for her and her friends. But Olivia's impulsivity gets her in over her head quickly. Baldric is determined to protect her even from herself.
