We all know the world has changed dramatically in the 21st century. The opportunities that defined past generations and steered their course through life (aka "The American Dream") just aren't out there for us anymore.
Today, 54% of college graduates regret choosing to invest in a degree, over 70% of Americans detest their jobs (part of why they change jobs every 20 months on average), and 2 out of 3 of Americans will never be able to stop working and retire.
But what are we supposed to do? Is there an alternative to the "system of systems" we live in: school, college (debt), job, different job, more different jobs, 401K/pension, retire (hopefully but probably not)? And if there is an alternative can it really work for everyone regardless of where they currently are in the system? Is there something else out there that works equally well for the 18-year-old deciding whether or not to go to college, the 45-year-old questioning his/her career path, the 65-year-old who is way short of being able to retire, and anyone else feeling dazed and confused in the modern world?
In Unlock Your Potential, author and entrepreneur Jeff Lerner answers those questions with a resounding YES! He shows readers how the failings of our education, employment, and retirement systems have opened doors most people didn't even know exist. And, most important, he'll show YOU how to step through those doors—where they exist, how they work, what it takes to go through them, and what's on the other side.

In 2022, Jeff was named an official member in of the Forbes Business Council.
Jeff’s interest in entrepreneurship began in his 20s when as a pianist he was often hired to play in the homes of successful CEOs and business owners.
In 2008, at age 29, after multiple failed ventures including a restaurant franchise that left him with a half million dollars in debt, he found his first success online and paid off the debt in 18 months.
He currently maintains an active schedule of speaking events and media appearances while serving as Chief Vision Officer of ENTRE, hosting the Unlock Your Potential podcast, and publishing free educational content on social media.

The book gives a fair idea of what have changed from what we used to believe when it comes to business and earning.
Even if you feel you do not need tips to make changes in your business, I do feel this book is a much needed change and will provide you the much needed answers whenever you feel stuck in your endeavours.
The rules have updated. The foundation is laid right. The right choices to be made. The idea of creating extra income. The ways to grow and keep growing wealth. All these have been discussed thoroughly in this book.
I finished this book ten months ago, so I would only be able to write down the stuff I still remember.
I haven't finished a book in a looong time, but I finished this one in one month because of how relevant, insightful and practical it is.
The author himself says this is basically three books in one. He has made this book into three sections, but my division is more of how I understood it than how he has done it. First part is about the schooling system and the importance of sales and the enterpreneurial spirit. As a homeschooling father, I could relate with 100% of what he said about the shortcomings or obsolescence of traditional schooling. One concept from the book: Schools don't teach sales, because if they did, people would realize that you need a completely different skills for making money, the skills the schools don't teach. And that people would realize it's completely possible to make money without learning the stuff the schools are teaching.
The second part of the book was about how to grow financially. He mentions that every person is in one the three phases of their financial life. Phase 1 is about growth, ... I don't remember what Phases 2 and 3 are about, as I personally belong to Phase 1. He said 95% of people reading the book would be in Phase 1. Phase 1 is when you work hard to increase your income till it's 5 times your necessary expenses, and shares lots of reasonable strategies to do that. Investment is I think the 2nd phase, and passive income or financial freedom is I think the third phase.
The third part of the book is where he discussed the financial situation and financial ecosystem, primarily of the US. And since I am not in US, it seemed pretty irrelevant to me.
The best part about the book is how real he is about everything, he makes no promises, albeit false ones. He does give people hope, and he does make an argument that making money is a moral responsibility. Take that, spiritual people! He also shows how hard work is an essential part of any time...
Lastly, what I absoltely hated about this books, and is the reason I gave this 4 stars instead of 5, is that he thinks interest is a beneficial or even necessary part of any financial ecosystem. I would like to invite him to study Islam and Islamic finance, and realize that interest basically leads to an impossible situation, where only the bottom people suffer, kinda like a pyramid scheme.
Definitely to be read! It's written in a very motivating way and elicits you out of your comfort zone in terms of thinking about your own possibilities. At the same time, the author doesn't come across as aloof.
A really great read. I think with these kind of books you always have to be careful to not fall prey to a completely self-dependent mentality because as a believer I know that God alone really provides at the end of the day. But I love Jeff’s practical lessons and observations on the world of business and economics, the reality of the situation we’re in and how to make a plan to get out. It most definitely is one to get you pumped up so definitely one to return to when you feel a slump in motivation to not be a victim of your circumstances.
I really liked this book. The author gave a good amount of personal stories and unbiased opinions. He also did a great job framing the mindset that helped him achieve success. I’ve recommended this book to a few friends and plan to read it again.
