๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ He was mine once. The boy who hid blue eyes behind bangs that were far too long and spun stories just for me. Life was perfect back then. When my only worry in the world was making sure daddy didn't catch us sharing more than words behind the barn. He should still be mine. But they took him. Ripped him from me while simultaneously tearing my heart in two. Six years later and you'd think I'd have moved on from that blue-eyed boy. Sometimes it's nice to pretend I have.
๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ค She was mine once. The girl who tasted like sunshine and smelled like summer rain. Life was perfect back then. When my only worry in the world was making sure her daddy didn't catch my hands on her pale freckled skin. She should still be mine. But she broke my heart in two, ripped the other half of my soul straight from my chest. Six years later and you'd think I'd have moved on from that cold-blooded woman. Sometimes I wonder if I should just forget about her. Sometimes I think I should get revenge.

I am a self-proclaimed coffee enthusiast who loves reverse harem books and is addicted to adopting animals. I dig crows, witchy things & anime. I live on a small hobby farm surrounded by my favorite people and growing animal family. I write under two pen namesโAJ Wolf & Halle.
Books like these radicalise my feminism. Books like these makes me wanna HATE me.
Why am I so angry you may ask?
Well, this book was GREAT. It was literally dreamy and cutesy , sweet .... it was LITERALLY like reading Atonement (and I love that movie sm).
UNTIL.
Until, they get separated for 6 years and HE sleeps around with ONLY red-heads( FMC is a redhead) and SHE remains completely celibate.
Not even joking, this book is REALLY REALLY good. The MMC and FMC have great connection, it's hot , its sweet, its forbidden and everything.
AND THEN, BAAAM!!! "I thought I had fallen out of love with her, until my buddy made me realise that Ive only bedded red-heads all this time."
If I were FMC, Id tell him "GET AWAY FROM ME YOU COOTIE MONSTER!"
Dnfing this bitch y'all Im LIVID. Specially because things were going GREAT. They both were virgins when they frst got together, and after loosing their v-cards, and getting separated, she remained celibate because she had sworn off love. He did NOT remain celibate even though he never got over her.
When they do re-unite, FMC is arranged-engaged to Lord Colgrove. (A man richer than MMC obv) and if I were her..... Id be takin' that man and givin' him all my love. Seriously. I would have told Woodrow to his FACE- Fuck You Woodrow for bedding so many red-heads in my memory, I hope Im dead to you because youre definitely dead to me.
Not rating this.
Im sorry if this coarse language offends you.... click on the button that makes me disappear from your feed.
Temperance and Woodrow's story will pull on your heart strings and make you believe in fairytale second chances where social standing has no boundaries and you can love freely.
I saw this doing the rounds on IG by myself included and #oneclicked that same day, this was so easy to get into, the cover is so beautifully eye catching and the synopsis grabbed me also, it wasn't until I started it that it was set slightly in the historical world which I normally don't gravitate towards. *Note to self read the synopsis * But it was done so well which I really enjoyed.
I loved these two characters, she was born with a silver spoon in her mouth and he was employed as a stable boy on their estate, these two under normal circumstances should've not been in the others orbit. She was way out of his league. But when they stole those secret moments together and it was just them it worked, all they saw was each other and they were perfection.
It's not until outside forces split them apart and he's sent off to fight for his country where things slightly fall apart for these two star crossed lovers. But just in the nic of time he's back to try and recliam what was once his before it's too late.
Second chance where he never got over her....so does that mean he kept his dick in his pants as someone who truly loved his woman would? Why no he fucked only redheads in the years in between. ๐๐ To add insult to injury she was celibate!๐ค Sick of this bs! Why can't grown ass men be expected to stay without sex? But women can?? Whyyyyyyyyyyyy Who says?????????
"I love you more than there are stars in the sky..."
This was a very beautiful story of the past and how things were back then when you had no right to love whoever you wanted.... Temperance and Woodrow's journey was bittersweet... It was full of love and tragedy... They were from two different worlds and they were destined to be apart... But their love was too big to get vanished just like that!!! Or wasn't it???
"I don't know who you are. But I know who I wish you were."
Temperance was a lady, from a good gendry... Woodrow was a stable boy... She was wild spirited and she couldn't accept what the society was demanding of her... He was content loving her and breathing the same air as her... They were young and in love, but they were violently separated...
"Temperance Pembroke has utterly shattered my soul. And with it, my ability to love ever again."
Six years later, they are about to meet again, but there's too much disdain and heartbreak between them... Betrayals, lies, deceit and revenge is playing a big part into their lives... Will they have a second chance in love when so many things are standing between them???
"He makes me feel alive..."
I really loved this couple... Woodrow had stolen my heart with his devotion to his Temp... I also admired Temperance's stability to her beloved... There was fire between them and a love once in a lifetime!!! But they had to bypass many obstacles if they wanted to earn a slice of heaven!!! These two crawled inside my heart and I fell in love with both of them deeply!!!
"I love her. I never stopped. And I absolutely hate myself for it."
I love A.J's writing!!! I love that in a small amount of pages, she can give us a solid story without unnecessary drama!!! I love that she dared to give us something different than her usual stories!!! I have read many historical romances in the past and I can say that this one was a good one!!! Temperest and Woodrow were amazing creatures and I am very happy that I met them!!! Well done, Mrs. Wolf!!! This was a very beautiful story that I will hold for a while close to my heart!!!
"She's the stars in the sky. And for so long, I've been wandering around in the darkness."
**I received an ARC for the exchange of an honest review**
A thrilling historical romance set in the Regency era. Ms Wolf will capture your attention with this angsty and passionate story.
Woodrow and Temperance share a love like no other, their connection defies time and space. Even when they are set apart their souls are united. No matter how many people and obstacles they have to overcome, their destiny will be fulfilled.
The story is told in dual POV and it stars by retelling the past, we follow the characters development and growth throughout their coming years. They are set apart and brought together again when they are adults. I enjoyed Temperance spirit and her fighting nature, Woodrow is a pillar of strength and devotion, his unwavering love for Temperance made my heart beat faster and I could easily identify with his raw pain.
This is not my usual read and not what Iโm used to reading from A.J. Wolf but it still was a beautiful story her writing is amazing. This is a story about Woodrow and Temperance they are both from completely different worlds her being royalty and him being a stable boy hired help and their love is absolutely forbidden but they burn for each other nonetheless. This story is emotional angsty and passionate itโs tragic heartbreaking and beautiful if youโre a fan of historical romances I think youโll enjoy this one .
With dark and dashing hero and bright and intelligent heroine, this story makes for a good one. The plot is quickly paced, the story is full of unsuspected twist and turns to keep you reading till the break of dawn; and the romance so loving and sweet.
These two leading characters were really meant for each other. When the whole world was against them, they still found a way, even if it took them years.
Such a sweet story, with characters you can't help but to root for; and intoxicating storytelling.
Temperance and Woodrow come from different worlds, yet they are both drawn to each other. However, Tempโs family has other plans and does whatever they can to keep these two young lovers apart.
The chemistry between Temperance and Woodrow was off the charts. From the first moment they were together you could fell it jump off the pages. They end up spending six years apart, yet despite everything the chemistry is still there. They are so still drawn to each other, even if they donโt know why.
In the six year gap you can feel the pain of their separation. The loss that each of them are feeling and all the heartbreak that occurs. This also leads to a small revenge plot when their paths cross once again. I almost wanted more of the revenge and some more drama out of it all before things came to an end for these two characters.
If youโre looking for a forbidden, friends to lovers to enemies to lovers, historical romance check this one out.
Aj Wolf writes a beautiful story about true love thatโs torn apart and destroyed by lord. A historian romance thatโs described so perfectly.
Woodrow and Temperance had such a rough ride it pulled at my heart strings. My only niggle is that the last third of the book is a little rushed. Iโd have loved more more revenge, more of the sneaking around. But A.J Wolf knows how to paint a beautiful scenery with words.
A breath of fresh air. Temperance and Woodrow are ill-fated lovers that I found myself rooting for from the opening of this story. Call it independence or a need to fight against society, I wanted only happiness for Temp as she she was stifled at every turn.
This was far outside of a normal read for me but I love the author and was not turning down a new release by her. And as always she delivered an emotional tale of love, longing, hurt, and happiness. My heart broke along with Temp and Woodrow. My anger rose with each new deception revealed. And I was overjoyed with the way an arranged marriage was ultimately handled.
Thereโs a beautiful ending for this couple and a hit at a future ahead. I hope we are able to get a second book within this world and see how a supporting character finds his HEA too.
๐ค a lady of the gentry & the stablehand ๐ค coming of age regency romance ๐ค childhood forbidden lovers ๐ penpals gone wrong ๐คฌ meddling parent
This is not the usual read Iโve had from Aj Wolf- and what a testament to her talents that she can so effortlessly switch between tropes, genre, and narrative styles. One minute sheโs writing a dark and twisted Tinkerbelle retelling, and the next we get this beautifully told soul mates story full of angst and passion and tenderness.
Two characters from different walks of life- torn apart by those that should love them. Hearts have broken, but the connection between them does not. Their chemistry sparkles off the page, the magnetic pull between them survives many years, many obstacles, the transition from friend to enemiesโฆand then one day to lovers. Itโs full of heartbreak and angst, weโve got some great twists and vengeance. Both characters are compelling- a charismatic hero with some edge, a smart and endearing heroine. And a sweet romance at the core of this regency story.
AJ gives us a lovely story about soul mates who find their way back to each other- who beat the forces holding them apart.
**ARC Review** This was my first ever historical romance Iโve ever read and it was wonderful! It was sweet, emotional and a beautiful love story!
Temperance & Woodrowโs chemistry is off the charts hot! From the very start you can feel their love for each other coming though the pages! (Kindle lol) With them being from different worlds and being torn apart by society, they promised to always be each otherโs! Six years later, with Revenge and a secret identity, they are both still drawn to each other! I just about screamed when he finally found out the truth and it changes everything! Second chances fate!
This is a friends to enemies to lovers, revenge, secret identity, forbidden and historical romance and it you love any of these, please read this novel!
Tropes: - regency/historical romance - childhood friends to enemies to lovers - rich girl (lady of the gentry) x poor boy (stable boy) - forbidden love - revenge plot - dual virgins ~ H & h - penpals *gone wrong* - time skip
POV: first person - dual
Type: stand-alone
Really enjoyed this book! It was very predictable but enjoyable nonetheless.
Beautiful written, such stunning imagery. A tale of forbidden love, heartbreak, betrayal and revenge. The two main characters had amazing chemistry, the character developments was on point and you could immerse yourself into the story, you felt what they felt , you rooted for them and wanted them to reach their HEA.
I'll rate this once I finish, I just have one thing to say, we'll perhaps more. First, I cannot imagine ppl calling their SO baby at that era, darling and love yeah defo but not baby *rolls eyes* also that sex scene, I dunno if it's regancy era don't they call genital areas something else rather than pussy? second the classic letters not arriving, it's freaking classic, can we not. Like wonder what happened hmmm? Then if they were so in love how come they were so fast to omg what if she/he doesn't love/want me anymore. Its not like back in that days (it's my assumption honestly I'm not history major) if they fucked it should have meant something. I know, I know ppl with anxiety etc will come up with different scenarios in their heads but you know it would be nice not reading about this. By this time I'm at 41% I honestly don't want to think what will happen next. So our boy sorry man is back but gods forbid he talked to her. No sire. Yeah so sorry I just couldn't finish the book. I skipped to the last chapter to see if they at least get a HEA, spoilers, yeah they do. Anyway, it killed me with the miscommunication trope. I just don't enjoy it, I'd be okay if it was for a short while but nope it was basically the main trope. I salute to Temp though for keeping up with the good work and not getting married for 6 years despite the pressure from her mum *you are my hero* ps I'm not being sarcastic here. Oh and I'll not ne rating it as well don't wanna pull down the rating, but if you really wanna know well it would be 0 or 1 stars.
I have received the eArc of this book and I'm leaving the review voluntarily.

Between Ash & Sea didnโt just pull me underโit drowned me in feelings I didnโt even realize I still had tucked away.
AJ Wolf has this rare kind of magic, where her words donโt just sit on the pageโฆ they crawl right under your skin and take up residence there. Temperance and Woodrowโs story? It wrecked meโin that aching, bittersweet way that only a story about first love, heartbreak, and all the messy, impossible emotions in between can.
Thereโs this rawness to their bond that felt so real, I swear I could smell the rain and feel the weight of six years of regret, anger, and buried tenderness pressing down on me while I read. You can practically taste their history with every glance, every word, every unsaid thing just vibrating between them.
This isnโt a simple second chance romance where love swoops in all easy and pretty. No, this is the kind of second chance that hurts before it heals. Itโs fierce and tangled and absolutely beautiful because of it. I was right there with themโraging, aching, hopingโfeeling like their pain and stubbornness and deep-buried hope were mine too.
And the backdrop of Regency England just adds this haunting, windswept feeling to it all... like the world itself knows how much these two are carrying. By the end, I wasnโt just investedโI was shattered and somehow still whole at the same time.
This book is one of those stories that settles into your soul and lingers long after you close it. And honestly? I didnโt want to let it go.
AJ Wolf, you have me in a chokehold and Iโm not even fighting it. ๐ฅโจ.
Wow! This was my first book by this author and not my usual type of read but I loved every minute of it! The blurb caught my attention and I ended up devouring this book! I absolutely loved this story, the angst, the characters, everything!! I will always choose the stable boy so I loved that Woodrow worked with horses and that horses were a large part of the story. I loved his devotion to the animals and to Temperance. This was a quick read that packed an emotional punch! It had me tearing up at points along the way. I read it in an afternoon because I couldn't put it down! The love between Temperance and Woodrow was pure and you could almost feel it coming off the pages. I loved the parts with Reginald. That was everything I didn't know I needed. The attraction and undeniable connection, swoon! There were moments that you needed to suspend belief a little but it didn't detract from the story at all, it was needed for the rest of the story to make sense. It was well written with a fast flow that just draws you right in. It was a fantastic story and I would definitely recommend it!! Even if historical is not usually your thing still check this one out!
This was my first time reading this author, and one of my very first historical romances in forever as well, and while it did take me a bit to warm up to the characters, I did end up really liking them. My only complaint is that I felt this novel was too short to give these two the proper story they deserve, and I felt like the betrayal/miscommunication aspect could have been handled so much differently. Other than that, this is a solid romance novel with all the feels!
This is definitely a star-crossed romance, with Temperance and Woodrow being from different worlds, and they are pulled apart too soon by outside forces. You can feel their love and sorrow for one another clear as day, and that love never once ebbed during their time apart, no matter how much they fought it. I'm so glad they got their HEA in the end! Like I said above, I just wish the book was a bit longer, and we got to see them actually be happy with each other a bit more, with how much they fought for their love.
**I received an ARC of this book and these are my honest opinions**
From start to finish, I loved everything about this book. It's a tale of young lovers, Temperance and Woodrow, who are from opposite sides of society and just want to be together. An outsider has other plans and conspires to separate them indefinitely. What they go through as a result will change them both forever.
Temp is carefree and determined while Woodrow is dreamy and soooooo charming, which makes them perfect for each other.
This entire story was well written and the author has a way of bringing her characters to life from the pages to the point where I could picture everything. There's also some very well written (and drool worthy) spice scenes that left me a little breathless.
I absolutely loved this book and would recommend anyone that loves romance read it!
Favorite Quotes:
- You've got that look on your face again, Woodrow. The one you get when you want to kiss me.
- You, Temperance Pembroke, own my heart. Without you, I struggle to live, to breathe, to survive. You are my only reason. There will never again be anything but us.
AJ Wolf played all her cards right with this beautiful story. A heart-breaking, second-chance romance between Temperance and Woodrow, set in the Regency era. The chemistry between the two characters was out of this world. Even when they were strangers, their bodies, their hearts, and their minds called to one another like a moth to a flame. A steamy and passionate love story that stood the test of time and came out triumphant, defeating all the obstacles that were sent their way. Such a beautiful story that I would have loved to get in deeper and see glimpses of everything around the story. Get to know the Regency era some more, get to know more about Temperance and her troubled relationship with her mother, about Woodrow's experiences when he is away for six years, and even get to know more about other people that make their appearance and somewhat derail their HEA for a little while.
When two very different worlds collide, worlds that aren't socially acceptable, that are Forbidden! But they collide with such intensity that their flame will forever burn. Love is love, afterall.
Temperance is a royal, who is soon to be open to finding a husband, but her heart lies with one man who is far from deemed acceptable as husband material... he's the stable boy. After Temp's mother gets wind of their feelings, she sees to it that Woodrow is sent packing and all contact is cut off. Woodrow writes letter after letter to his love, only to have nothing I'm return.
Having read Ms.Wolf's work many times before i always look so forward to reading more of her words! As soon as Between Ash & Sea was announced i added it to my TBR list right away. I knew i had to pick it up next. I got into it as soon as i could. I so enjoyed this story!
Temperance and Woodrow's journey pulled me in right from the start! I couldn't wait to see how everything was going to play out with these two. I really liked the way these characters and this world hooked me. I felt many things throughout with both Temperance and Woodrow as well!
With Between Ash & Sea, Ms.Wolf has created such a good read that will capture your attention quickly! I am so looking forward to more from her!
*I volunteered to read and review a copy of this book from Peachy Keen Author Services / the author*
This book was filled with love, pain, heartache, and revenge.
Temperance is from a wealthy family, expected to marry a rich man who will be able to support her. Woodrow is a stable boy who works from the family, who will never be good enough in the eyes of society and Temperanceโs mother. Them being together is forbidden and kept a secret.
Woodrow is forced away from Temperance, and they both struggle with their time apart. They write letters to each other. Unseen circumstances leave them not hearing from each other, and they both have to come to terms about one another's silence and what that could mean.
It was a captivating read and I couldnโt put it down. The two of them share a passion for each other, and after being apart for so long, the chemistry and passion is still there.
Temperance, a woman of gentry was not meant to fall in love with the stable boy, Woodrow. They weren't meant to have stolen moments and stolen kisses, they weren't meant to make promises of forever.
Secrets they thought were kept hidden, were discovered and plans were set in motion ripping them apart.
Time, distance and death are only obstacles and a love that shines as bright as the stars in the sky can never be dulled..
Oh how I loved this story. Short and sweet with a hard earned happily ever after. Temperance and Woodrow were just perfect, both strong willed and determined to get what they wanted.
Great story, I loved the historical aspect of it and the idea that love perseveres over all!
Regency Novel that is spicy, fluffy and angsty. I blazed through this one so quickly. It's a love between a stable boy and lady torn apart by her meddling mother. She thinks he's dead, he thinks she doesn't love him. When he returns he vows revenge on her.
Tropes: aristocracy vs working class Enemies to lovers again Missed letters
Spice 2.5 (happens more towards the last 3rd of book. Also a small niggle on my end was Woodrow calling her baby, think darling would have fitted better better setting of novel, plus Temperance uses modern terms for her body so it took out a bit. This may be me just nit picking) Plot: 4 stars.
TW: very very very mild abuse by parents. Happens one time but I'm posting in just in case.
This story was like Bridgerton meets The Notebook. It was during the regency Era with Lady Temperance and coming out parties. Suitors to vye for a Lady's attention and hand in marriage. Temp and Woodrow fall in love...the classic rich gentry lady and poor stable boy. Society and especially Temp's mother disagrees with this and forbids it. But the heart wants what it wants... Woodrow ends up sent away and they Vow to write each other and stay true to each other. Then they don't get each other's letters, there's lies, and heartache, and broken hearts all around. Then years later...he returns and welll...read and find out what happens next
Unwarranted Revenge, Evilness, Lasting Forever Love: My first time reading this author and I was totally enraptured with this beautiful love story. The characters were so intriguing and full of emotions that came through and grabbed at my heartstrings. The villain was unbelievably cruel and hateful and received what she deserved. The amount of passion is high with a lady's fan recommended This author surprised me with a truly enjoyable love story that had everything I like in a historical romance book. ๐Mature Advisory: 3/5 ๐โโ๏ธI voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy for my honest thoughts and opinion.
Woodrow, son to Temperance's family estate farrier. Two different worlds, two different social statuses. Hiding their love until ripped apart.
Six years of letting heartache and anger fester between Temperance and Woodrow finds him secretly back in her life. Revenge has never tasted sweeter until revealing truths rock their worlds aright.
Regency historical romance between two of different societies with quite a bit of steam between the petticoat and stockings per se. Author paints a portrait of forever love and soul mates beautifully.
This was a super cute, quick read! Temperance and Woodrow's love pulls you in from the beginning of the book. By society standards they're not meant to be together and it seems someone will stop at nothing to make sure they're not. You get twists and turns, tension, and a love that can withstand all.
