Well that was unexpected!

I love a book that takes you on a journey where you think you know all the familiar landmarks and directions it’s going to take along the way, only to find out in the end that you’ve ended up in an entirely different place.

This is my first book from prolific author Daniel Hurst, and it didn’t disappoint.

Craig and Megan live in a remote countryside home outside London. He’s a bank manager who provides for his wife so that she can enjoy the fruits of his labor and not work. That’s how he likes it, at least. Megan, though, is missing the city life, work and friends she had before. She’s hoping Craig will come around to her point of view after she tells him she’s been putting in applications. He’s confident nothing will come of it until a job recruiter named Sally enters the picture and now things are getting real.

That won’t do for Craig at all. He’s been tracking Megan’s every move on her phone and laptop for quite some time, and he knows that despite saying she wouldn’t attend the interview with Sally, she did anyway. No … he’s going to have to intervene, and she’s NOT going to like it. She’s about to find out that she’s not the only one who’s been keeping secrets.

Is her loving, supportive husband actually a wolf in sheep’s clothing?

I hate the “every man is evil” trope that’s so popular these days, but Hurst wrote a character so vile to me that my fantasies about what would happen with him may have gotten just a little carried away. I think words like “gutterpig” and “festering pile of man garbage” MAY have entered my mind once or twice. 😏

This is definitely a “whole picture” kind of book. Some things are exactly as you see them, and some things aren’t, but the ending was everything! I listened to this on audiobook narrated by Gareth Bennett-Ryan and Francesca Waite, both of whom did a fantastic job and kept me enthralled with every twist and turn. I’ll definitely be watching for more from this author!

This was my second read from Daniel Hurst. Having finished The Boyfriend I was quickly on the hunt for more of his books/audios from my local library.

Craig and Megan are happily married, peacefully living in the countryside. Craig encouraged, (ok insisted) that Megan stay home allowing him he to be the sole breadwinner for the family. Aww! How sweet! But Megan eventually becomes bored and wants to get a job hoping it will lead to some nights out with new girlfriends. Let’s just say Craig doesn’t take it well.

Is Craig a major control freak or something dangerously deeper?

A quickie audio coming in at under six hours that I positively flew through. But don’t let the fact that it’s shorter deter you. It’s jam-packed full of shocking twists!

The narrators did a superb job with both characters. Now back to the library to find another audio from this talented author!

Thank you to my local library 🎧

After a whirlwind courtship, Megan has the perfect life with Craig, the perfect husband. He doesn’t want her to work but she is bored sitting around all day in their beautiful secluded house, and wants to resume her career. Craig isn’t happy about this new development and has plans for Megan.

Creepy, controlling husband? Or is he? Don’t be fooled into thinking this sounds like a tired plot that’s been done way too many times. It is not! Told from the POV of Megan and Craig, the plot slowly unfolds in alternating chapters, and it’s a diabolical one!

To say anything more would be a spoiler. Which reminds me. Do NOT read reviews on Goodreads. Many of the top reviews on the page gives away the plot and the twists (but NOT from any of my GR friends! 💕). It’s best to go in completely blind, as I did. I trusted Jayne, who recommended this one to me, and didn’t read reviews before I downloaded it.

Daniel Hurst excels at tightly plotted books that delivers a shocking twist that turns everything you thought you knew on its head. Although many books promise this, Daniel Hurst actually delivers. Don’t expect fully developed characters with a story that delves into their history for an explanation of why they behave the way they do. You won't get that here. Instead, pop the popcorn and settle in for a fun ride.

Very clever, and highly recommended as an audiobook. I blew through this one very quickly, and compared with recent disappointing reads, this was a masterpiece.

If you want a definition of deviousness, just read this book. There is a lot of twisted minds operating here, and you can’t help figuring out what’s in store for you. I’m afraid of spoiling the fun, so rest assured there will be a suspense and twists you won’t forget.

EXCERPT: (Megan) thinks I'm the perfect husband and that she still exercises her own free will in our relationship. How cute. She has no idea.
That is the way that I will keep it.
But the unexpected development this morning means I have some thinking to do as I speed on towards the train station, going much faster than I should on these roads. Megan would hate it if she knew I was going this fast. Then again, she would hate a lot of things about me if she knew them.
But she doesn't.
I intend to keep it that way.

ABOUT 'TIL DEATH DO US PART': Megan thinks that she has the perfect husband and the perfect life. Craig works so that she doesn't have to, leaving her free to relax all day in their beautiful and secluded country home.

But when she starts to long for friends and purpose again, Megan applies for a job in London, much to her husband's disappointment. She thinks that he is upset because she is unhappy. But she has no idea.

After Megan goes against his wishes and attends the interview, Craig decides that it is time to act. Locking her away in their home, Megan realises that her husband never had her best interests at heart, nor did they meet by accident.

Craig has been planning this from the start.

As Megan is kept shut away from the world with only somebody else's diary for company, she starts to uncover the lies, the secrets and the fact that she isn't actually Craig's first wife after all...

MY THOUGHTS: Daniel Hurst does the domestic suspense/psychological thriller trope so very well.

I started this soon thinking that I knew where it was going. It turns out that I didn't - in reality, I had absolutely no idea!

Narrated alternately by husband and wife Craig and Megan, with diary entries from Anna in the latter part of the book, we witness the disintegration of 'the perfect marriage'.

Daniel Hurst surprised me, more than once. He uses the very slow bit-by-bit reveal to great advantage keeping the level of suspense high.

Til Death Do Us Part is a quick but extremely satisfying read. I did have to, from time to time, suspend my logical questioning mind, but it was worth it.

The audiobook of Til Death Do Us Part is superbly narrated by Francesca Waite and Gareth Bennett-Ryan.

OK-Finally I get to do a review!

This was just PERFECT. Per-fect!

I have been barreling my way through this author's works. Some I have liked, some not so much, some I have liked A LOT -- but THIS one is just flawless!

I cannot say to much because there is simply so much potential to give things away. What I can tell you -- have you read 'behind closed doors?"

It was a HUGE seller. This story has many things that remind me strongly of that book -- but it is BETTER.

Way better.

Maggie and Craig are married. Maggie is a gentle and somewhat naive girl whose husband Craig is a complete nutter.

No spoilers -- we know this from practically the first page.

We especially know this when Maggie gets a job offer and Craig gets jealous. He does not want her to take the job. The two live in a remote area and Maggie is a virtual recluse -- just the way Craig likes it.

What will he do when his lifestyle is threatened?

What will Maggie do when she finds out the man she married is NOT the man she married -- not in her mind anyway.

The story just flows. It is also filled with one amazing twist after another. Nothing feels unreal and in a world where thrillers usually leave me jaded, because they're all the same, this one made me gasp! I think it will for u2.

I strongly recommend this work. It was a juicy and tantalizing read. filled with mischief, real suspense, creepiness and genuine shocks. It absolutely deserves a five. If you like a quick and unforgettable thriller, this is one you will not want to miss.

I am going to be careful about this review as if I say to much there could be spoilers & it’s not fair to do that… so here it goes this book starts off about a psychopathic husband & you think you have it all worked out.. but the author goes into another direction with the characters& BAM you have a story about revenge & survival.

I am not going to give much away on this one as I think you should go in blind , this is my first novel by Daniel Hurst & won’t be my last it’s dark very compelling & a well written plot line you can feel the tension building in each chapter… let’s just say the ending blew me away, this was a sick read-in a good way short sharp chapters it certainly was an addictive read that was creepy at times all those shiny ⭐️

3.5 STARS

Narrated by: Gareth Bennett Ryan, Francesca Waite Length: 5 hrs and 40 mins

I've been in the mood for popcorn lately and this was another mindless, entertaining listen that satisfied the munchies!
A quick listen on Hoopla Audio!

Megan and Craig seem to have it all. So why is she complaining all the time? Craig thinks she should just be happy and much more appreciative of the comfy life he has provided her. Something isn't quite right! Things get out of hand and someone has the upper hand.

The narrators were spot on and kept me listening while I tackled a closet de-clutter! Easy to listen to and you don't have to concentrate too much, ha! The author is good at planting seeds of doubt.

Nice little twisted ending!

Once you start reading, you will not want to part with "Til Death Do Us Part".

Yes, it's a quick and unputdownable psychological thriller.

And it's a thriller that gives new meaning to the concept of "unreliable narrator".

In the beginning, readers will think this is a book about a super-controlling and paranoid husband.

Instead, it's a book about deception, revenge, and obsession.

With an unexpected and gasp-worthy ending.

This is my third book by author Daniel Hurst. His books are simply written, captivating, unpredictable, and suspenseful.

I especially enjoy this author because he is concise and never goes off on tangents or uses superfluous text.

"The Passenger" is my favorite Daniel Hurst book but this book was a winner, too.

I look forward to listening to future books by this talented author.

Possibly one of the quickest books have read, in a good way, I had to keep training my eye to stay on the line I was reading and not jump ahead to see what was happening down the page
It’s deliciously addictive, dark, sooo clever the way it is written, one chapter by hubby, one by wife and some by ‘guest appearances’, I rare say a book had me hooked but am saying it, hook, line and sinker, there was no possibility not to read it in one sitting, I HAD to know and the ending....well you will see!
Rapidly becoming one of my fav authors, I love the fast, furiousness no let up tension of his work
This book took me into the world of Meghan and Craig and didn’t let up until the very last word
Outstandingly a great read

Megan is living the perfect life. Three years ago, she met Craig, and they married after a few months, both madly in love with each other. He’s a successful banker and buys them a house in the country, asking her to quit her job to live a life a ease and luxury…and isolation. Now she’s bored and craving interactions with people and friendships that a job provides so she applies for one, to Craig’s dismay. That’s when we learn that Craig’s not quite the loving and doting husband Megan thinks he is.

Told from both Megan and Craig’s points of view, the story takes on a Hitchcockian feel as we see the clueless Megan continue pursuing the job that the hapless and relentless recruiter Sally offers her. Meanwhile, Craig is tracking her emails and growing angrier as she secretly continues her pursuit. I instinctively knew there was so much more I didn’t know and was listening for clues that would tell me who Megan and Craig were before they married.

I can’t say much else without spoiling everything but will say it is a twisty story that took me down many paths of speculation except the right one. I listened to it and the two narrators played their parts exceptionally well, not giving me a clue beyond what the story chose to reveal until the end. I didn’t see what was coming until it was laid bare, giving me an “open jaw” conclusion. This is the kind of story you’re either going to love or hate, there’s no in between. I’m on the side of loving it!

I knew it! I could smell the twist from a mile away. Not a good sign.

Craig is the perfect husband. Megan is living the perfect life. A perfect house, more money that she could ever hope for and a good provider of a husband. What more could she ask for? It's not like she's a prisoner in her own home. Well, maybe she is.

Predictable plot, one dimensional characters and a very bland ending. A trifecta of a one star rated book. I don't mean to be harsh or anything but I could've chosen a much better book than this one.

Ugh!

Megan loves her perfect husband who has done everything to make sure she is free to stay home and enjoy herself in their beautiful country home while he works in the city. Feeling the need for new friends and a purpose in life, however, she decides to apply for a job, and now she only has to tell her husband. What could go wrong? Daniel Hurst is the master of these kinds of stories with their ever-present twists, and this one is a fairly clear example of one of those. It was fine, but it didn’t really grab me as a story. Not only that but I had some difficulty with the way the characters told their stories. I kept trying to work out if they were thinking these things or talking to some mysterious listener. Neither of those options seemed realistic. Still and all, it’s solid entertainment, so why should I be so critical.

Husband secretly hate's a wife and married her for revenge with the intention to kill. This is a plot that is done so frequently in a thriller that I predicted this whole book in three chapters. If you doubt the predictability of this book, you can search Til Death Do Us Part and notice more than ten books with a similar premise and the same title. Not only does this book not give the next twist on a common trope but the characterization of Megan suddenly switches without prior clues or notice. The change comes out of nowhere and it's absolutely frustrating.

Has much as I dislike this book, I am glad that this story does have an audience that love's it.

Good read....until the end

The ending is completely unbelievable, I’m so disappointed. Spoiler alert.......what’s completely unbelievable is that Anna committed suicide to get away from Megan. Megan knew nothing about Craig so all Anna had to do was go to Switzerland and Megan wouldn’t have had any idea where she was.

*3.5 stars rounded up!!

The more books I read from Daniel Hurst, the more I want to read! I enjoy his writing style and know once I start one of his novels, I won’t want to put it down. TIL DEATH DO US PART was definitely one of those novels! It’s filled with loads of mystery and suspense, captivating inner dialogue from our main characters, and a final twist I don’t think you’ll see coming!! Just when you think you have it all figured out, think again!

So if you want a quick read, captivating storyline, and unpredictable ending, I think you’ll love TIL DEATH DO US PART! Oh, and revenge shows it’s ugly head, too, which is always fun to watch play out!!

I whizzed through this and really enjoyed it. I just can't award it the 5* cos' there are some proper schoolboy errors in it that should have been picked up, self-published or not. He must know someone who could proofread it for him first before hitting the old publish button !!
I was just dying to know what happened in this and stayed up late to read it, the mark of a riveting tale for sure. Craig was so awful to poor Megan. I had no idea as per usual where it would all end, which I always enjoy as you could be in for a big old shock and I usually am since I have no imagination whatsoever !! I was with Megan regarding rural living. It can be too remote, I've been there and got out after half a dozen years. I did think she went along with all Craig wanted way too easily, however. Needed to sprout herself a bit of a backbone !!
But what let him down.....I think it was 3 times I highlighted his writing too and not to (which is basic stuff in any good English class) and he gets apostrophes in the wrong place a great deal, though, in fairness, he isn't alone there.
In this sentence he didn't need currently, "...although Craig is currently using that right now" but the main error he made, persistently, is writing widow and not widower. That almost drove me to distraction !! A couple of sentences dropped words and another repeated error was using pouring as opposed to poring and also glamourous and not glamorous. See ? Basic stuff easily remedied. Oh, and getting his words tangled up in this line, "...saw me as just more than a best friend" instead of ".....saw me as more than just a best friend" !! He does it again writing sleeve shirt and not shirt sleeve. Quite odd mistakes.
I did write "Yikes" as it finished so it kept me interested right till the bitter end ! I see he's written quite a fair few novels so not sure why I've not happened upon him before but I'll definitely be picking another up. He was SO close to getting the coveted 5*, trust me. If he sorts these few mistakes out it would've been perfect.

Short Chapters + Fast Paced x Nonsensical Scenarios = Popcorn Thriller Time

This is my fourth Daniel Hurst book and by now I already know not to expect too much. He is for me what I consider a 'filler reader'.
His books are perfect to listen too while you are working, cleaning, running errands etc. They don't require too much concentration, because everything is basic and simplistic.
He is the go-to after you have read a deep book like Karin Slaughter for example.
Also big claps for the narrators who know they are not working with much, but do their utmost best to keep the reader engaged! :)

With that I look forward to listening to more of his book after I've read a hard hitter or when I think I'm going through a reading slump and need something unserious and silly 😊

Do you ever read a book or even listen to it on audio and want to throw it across the room??? THIS is THAT book!!! I hated Craig (what a sneaky thing he is!) and poor Megan had no clue! Of course I’m quoting the great Freida McFadden who said “If you want to toss the book across the room, this means you love the book”. Now I’m not sure that’s her exact quote but it’s pretty close! Yes, this book had me hooked from the beginning and I could not put it down! Another great Daniel Hurst book!

Was this written by an eleven year old? Seems like I'm in the minority here at the moment but this was so bad. If lots more people read this, I'm sure the average rating would go from 4.19 to 1.19.
Great concept, bad execution. I only persevered because I thought it would get better. I was wrong. The writing was so juvenile and repetitive that you could just read the first chapter and last chapter and you wouldn't have missed much. There was no variation in the voices of the two POVs; they could have been the same person.
And too much telling, not enough showing. In one chapter, Megan would describe her actions from her point of view and in the next chapter Craig would tell us what she just did even though we know because Megan just told us. And I'm talking mundane stuff, not sneaky unreliable character stuff. Like paragraphs of "I got my portable charger and charged my phone" and then "She got her portable charger and charged her phone".

Here's the sneaky plot twist for those of you who don't want to waste any more of your time reading this garbage: Megan is supposedly actually a crazy twisted stalker. I say supposedly because we're only TOLD that but there is absolutely nothing in her actions throughout the entire book to show that she's demented.

Also, we're meant to believe that Anna took her own life just because Megan wouldn't leave her alone? That is the dumbest reason to commit suicide. How about trying less radical alternatives first, like, I don't know, moving houses and changing your phone number? But killing yourself so that your stalker can't stalk you anymore? I mean, sure that works, but talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face, sheeeesh.

Glad it was free

I found it to be pretty dull and drug out. It felt shallow with no solid character development and I found myself skimming through a majority of it as the first half of the book was the same stuff repeated in each chapter, and what was written often didn’t bring anything new or useful to the storyline.
Even the “twist” at the end was not believable to me as it again was underdeveloped and I don’t think someone would
actually be compelled to do what they did with the circumstances (very vague but trying not to give away any spoilers).

“Till Death Do Us Apart”, by Daniel Hurst

This was my 3rd book by this author (2nd in a row).

Once again he was able to keep me entertained.

The storyline is developed by alternating POV’s, between wife & husband.
Both characters are shallow.
The husband, Craig, is delusional and very easy to hate.
The writing was quite repetitive, but understandable, because the characters needed to stress over and over their deep feelings. But that made the reading a bit tiresome, hence my ratings.
It’s a weird relationship, taking in consideration the setting is in the modern time with all the technology that is available, but I guess that there are people like these in real life (or perhaps this is way over the top).
But then, when I wrote the lines above, I did not know what was behind everything.
Now, I do confess that I love books with unreliable narrators and for sure I do not mind despicable or unlikeable characters (it’s all about the writing and storytelling), but if there is something that I find hard to forgive is when the author suddenly changes a character personally just to shock his/hers audience.
Although I kind of enjoyed this book, there is nothing extraordinary or different about it. This kind of plot has been done several times. Even the title is not that original.
Regardless, I was entertained, so I guess the author fulfilled one of his purposes.

Ebook (Kindle): 325 pages (default), 81 chapters!!!

Audiobook narrated by Gareth Bennett Ryan and Francesca Waite (5h40 min @normal speed)

PS. Thanks to the audiobook, which I listened simultaneously while reading the ebook, I learned the British pronunciation of “garage”. I did think that I’ve been doing wrong after all these years, but I’ve been using the American way.

This was my first novel of Daniel Hurst and I will say it took me A LOT to get into it. The writing I found to be so “storytellish” and very basic. There was no character development until the end of the book. I’m not sure how it could have been better, but it just seemed to repeat the same thing over and over again, “I want to do this but my husband won’t accept me doing it”, “He’s such a good, hardworking husband”. I felt like there could have been 3-4 chapters taken out based on repetitiveness alone.

But.. the ending was unexpected and it made me take a second look at what I had read. I’ll definitely give his writing another try because I do see the potential!

I'm not sure how this book has so many 4-5 star ratings. The story had potential despite being predictable, but it quickly became clear that this book was not going to be good. The writing was atrocious; I can't even begin to describe it. There was no difference between how the different narrators were written. Most of the sentences were written like someone was writing a term paper and needed to up the word count so was avoiding using apostrophes and shortening words. There was so much unnecessary repetition even about mundane things. The twist at the end made no sense and not in a "wow, I never saw that coming" way.

This book was still sitting in my Kindle, waiting to be read and I'm happy to have read it now. I've read a couple of Daniel Hurst books now; usually they earn three stars. This one fully earns four stars because the story flowed better, the characters had more depth and the unexpected turns in the story were really unexpected.
As the story of Craig and Megan slowly unfolds it is clear that there is something wrong with them. A jealous husband who checks on his wife secretly constantly during the day? A young woman sitting at home all day just like that? It was a pleasure to read what actually was happening here.
