What happens when you push an Altered shifter too far?
Their happily-ever-after within reach, Sila and her mates depart from their safe haven at Reficio. But when an unwelcome encounter from her past throws their lives into chaos once more, Sila is forced to reconsider who her enemies truly are. Pushed to the very brink of control, with corruption and betrayal at the highest levels within the Shifter Council, one last attack sets Clan Novo on the path to redemption and revenge.
If you enjoy sassy, sarcastic FMC's with a low tolerance for bullshittery, grumpy dire wolves who need to pee on everything, surly sabertooths who hate everyone, and prehistoric cave bears who wear frilly pink gingham aprons when they cook, pick up a copy today.
This is part two of a paranormal romance duet and is set in an interlinked universe with shifters, fated mates, knots, and heats, and where the FMC doesn't have to choose. It contains mature content, language, violence between shifted characters, and scenes of a sexual nature including light BDSM. It is intended for audiences 18+. If you're not 18 or older, put the book down and go ask your parents. Go on, shoo!
M.F. Moody is a purveyor of Contemporary, Rom-Com, Dark, Mafia, Fantasy, Paranormal, LGBTQ+, RH/Poly, and Sci-Fi Romance novels. She has a vivid and active imagination, is often blunt to the point of brutality, has a dark and warped sense of humour, absolutely no filter, no shame, is an absolute genre whore, and aspires to the giddy heights of the gutter.
M.F. Moody is married to a VERY understanding man, and together they have a boy-child, 3 cats, and apparently WAAAAY too many books and alcohol, especially as she’s the only one who drinks. Although really, is there such a thing as having too many books? And as for the alcohol, well, she’s Australian. They live in a little corner of Kent in the UK, and she enjoys confusing the locals with her accent and colloquialisms, reading, coffee, wine, reading, baking, sleeping, and did we mention reading?
No one, not even the author can convince me of the need for this book. So much unnecessary bs was in this book it amazed me.
So we continue the story of our mcs 18 months after the end of book 1 They're now in college and low and behold bad guys from book 1 are at the same college Multiple interactions between the h and the same bitch from book 1 until that shit is finally handled🙄 We are apparently expected to forgive our young ex fated mate of book 1. Now this is the same guy who the author convinced me was a SOB and worse because in this world breaking a fated mate bond in the way he did was akin to murder or attempted murder or something.....I mean really, it's literally stated as such. Yet in this book he makes a few half assed apologies, sheds a few tears and yup is bonded into the clan. Not as a mate mind you, but a brother of sorts🤦🏾♀️ if y'all been following me you'd have heard me say this before. I don't do forgive and forget 🤷🏾♀️so this pissed me off royalty Ugh just more and more and more filler
In all fairness this could've been a truly amazing series, maybe if we'd ended these mates at book 1 and paired another set in this book idk. But kudos to the author for her unique approach to shifters and the fantasy genre on the whole. I really enjoyed the concept of Altered beasts.
4.5 stars. All the things I thought were wonky in the first book, they were wonky again in this one. The plot and the timeline. Basically nothing happened in this book until the end and usually I wouldn’t even mention that because I don’t mind it but here I was a little confused because there was just so much buildup it felt like the conflict was gonna be much bigger and harder to overcome than it ended up being. And the timeline. I honestly couldn’t tell you how long of a time this book took place in. I know it’s been a year since the first book ended. I don’t know. It was confusing and not said until long after time had jumped.
Still. I still really liked this book though. The sex was hot, the dirty talk was hotter and the relationship between characters was just so sweet and loving and sort of adorable it was too much not to love.
I think I’ll definitely be checking out the next book in the series. I’m just not ready to let these characters go and I want to see what’s next for this universe.
I was not sure when I started reading this duet. I almost gave up at 15 percent but then somehow continued and I wasn't let down. I'm glad I kept reading. The h gets rejected cruelly by her mate in front of the whole school and his evil girlfriend (ow) that broke her and her animal badly. It took her some time to get back to her normal self with the help of three broken heroes (Hs) who absolutely worship the ground she walks. I like that the second book dealt with her remorseful ex-mate and the ow and portrayed the h as a strong woman.
Altered: Part Two is the second book in the Altered Shifters Universe series.
I am seriously loving this universe. Like seriously. It's so unique and emotionally gripping. After the cliffhanger, I was kind of not expecting a huge time jump between the first book and this one. I was left a little confused. But, besides that, the steamy scenes were hoooot!! I had to see if Sila and her mates finally got their HEA. And it was a well deserved one at that! This is such a fun universe and definitely checking out the spinoff books as well!
3.5 stars: So, this second part concludes Sila's journey with her gentlemen. The Novo Prima has definitely toughened up here and she appears to be quite the strong shifter. When others underestimate you, it is also gratifying when your true colours show. This is precisely what Sila achieved here as she was unyielding when faced with challenges and treats all around. I am not sure how I feel about the Situation with Simon, but I guess the main heroine is more forgiving than I am. The MMCs have been utterly devoted to the FMC from the start and they have not faltered at any point in time. All in all, this was definitely a different experience for me, so I reckon that at some point I will read more from this universe.
Mates Blood bonds. Family bonds. Unexpected alliance Battles. Smex.
Oof MF moody absolutely kept me on my toes with this 2nd book. I absolutely love how the characters developed and grew together, as well as there family. I love the plot and the fact i could never guess the twist coming.
The ending ooof i can not wait to see what is next in this universe
Spice level Up there with the best of em at a 4.5/5 absolutely sinfully delicious. 🌶🔥🥵
Sila and her clan are staring college, after getting a Nox out of his fathers control. I love how fierce Sila is and she is really owning and controlling her power. Of course her own nemesis are back and definitely not going to make things easy on the. I do feel like the ending was a little abrupt. I hope book 3 still follows Sila and her guys because I’m really curious how that will all play out. The second fast-forward at the end did intrigue me though, so I will definitely be looking for book 3 :)
I enjoyed this book. I really liked that it was unique. I loved the idea of altered shifters and altered bonds. I liked the characters. The world building was really good too.
There were a lot of things I didn’t like about this series as well. I have to be honest, by the end of the first book I was iffy about whether I even wanted to continue reading this series or not. The first book wasn’t super good; I enjoyed it, but the main plot hadn’t really come into play yet. It felt like book one was only about FMC being rejected and building the relationships with her harem.
The way the bonds and relationships formed was a little awkward. The only ‘dating’ or ‘courtship’ period this group had was when FMC was feral and stuck in her cat form. FMC wasn’t even mentally present with her animal at that point, she was too broken. The feline just picked these guys without the woman’s opinion. The guys chose her before they even met the female herself. Then, after one or two interactions as the human girl, they’re bonding. It was all backwards and it felt weird. Especially since these guys are so guarded and leery…ESPECIALLY since FMC was just shattered by rejection from her fated mate.
Anyway, I don’t feel like talking about this book anymore today. Thankfully, the second book redeemed itself and I ended up liking the story and plot. It wasn’t then best shifter RH, it also wasn’t the worst. I enjoyed the series and I might read it again sometime.
I will definitely read other books from this author. I think this was her first series, and if that’s the case then she did a damn good job. It would also explain why it took the first book of this series for the author to hit her stride.
*** OOH, I also liked the girl power in this series. There’s nothing I love more than a strong, confident female lead. It took her a bit to recover from the rejection, but when she did (book 2) I liked her character a lot more. And I really liked the males even more for stepping back and letting their female lead. Not something you see in shifter books very often.
This review is for the full duet and not just book one.
I found this story to be pretty fun to read and I enjoyed the dynamic with the characters and the world that the writer established.
I wasn’t a big fan of the fact that the whole plot really revolves around the ‘mean girl’ trope, that you have this truly awful queen bitch character who wants to be a bully and steal all the boys. I think it would have been okay to be the early plot line, but the fact it persists throughout the duet and follows all the way to the end of the second book (two year after the initial drama) just felt a little juvenile. The interactions and references to this character all felt a little bit misogynistic and slut shamey too, which I do not think was the authors intent- but this idea of the blonde-haired, popular, bitchy skank just felt like a caricature of a blow up doll and it was hard to take her seriously as a villain.
That was my main gripe with the series, otherwise I did like it, although I’ll admit I skimmed through the spicy scenes toward the end of book two, some of the descriptions just weren’t for me 😅😅
There were some parts that really shined in this series and others where it felt like the author is still developing and finding their writing voice. From what I could tell this is a newer writer, so that’s totally to be expected. I would definitely recommend this book to other fans of rejected mate books.
I hope we get a little more information about Simon as the author expands the series, that part felt like I didn’t have closure. I also was intrigued by the little teaser at the end for a new character.
Check TW for your own reference- but I also want to make a special note that in book one a character does recount past trauma of CSA with a fair amount of detail of the prior incidents.
Sila is almost 2 yrs past the incident that forever changed her life. While it was tragic and altered her forever, it also brought her her mates. It also means her 50lb snow leopard isn't just a weak mundane, either. So when the 2 who ruined her life show up at college looking to make waves again she's not having it. Not. At. All.
Spoilers ahead. Reading the blurb makes you think it's a continuation of the mean girl bit again. Luckily it isn't. Yes, Catherine the not so great shows back up but while she's background aggravation she isn't the main theme. Sila and the guys are learning about how the Council and the community of shifters all play into each other. They do settle some past contentions: Nox's noxious father, Simon and Catherine, some traitors hidden in high places. Some are settled how you'd think, some are decidedly...not. My one real regret out of this book is that while we meet the mean family we don't get to meet either of the loving families. I wanted to meet Kane's granny. I wanted to meet Bash's parents and pack. So the time skips aren't really to my liking. We miss so much bonding time. Last book they were just finally meshing personalities. Here they start off a year and a half together with all those little things that new couples do that we missed seeing.
Part two is set a little after part one. Sila is away from her mates at a council meeting trying to sort out the problems between the two lion prides and the Novo clan that Sila and her mates have now formed. Meanwhile her mates get an uninvited arrogant lion barge into their suites and demand they leave. This cause trouble when the realise it is non other than Simon Gatto. The son of one of the Leos Sila is meeting at that very moment. All hell breaks loose and she has to calm her mates and sort the situation out at the same time. Unfortunate the other Leo is not as respectful or remorseful for their prides part in the incident against Sila. And makes life difficult. This theme runs through the book with Princess Catherine trying to cause trouble but Sila is so far above her it doesn’t work which only makes Catherine worse. The council has to keep getting involved with Sila being good and following the rules and Catherine and her pride not, but how much will Sila take before she decides to handle things herself. Sila has already proven is one of the most dominant shifters in existence when she challenged Nox’s father and made his whole steak submit, in order to be allowed to have Nox join her clan. Lots of twists and turn to keep you hooked. I can’t believe how things turned out with Simon. I need more from This world and to know what happens next.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I definitely enjoyed this book better than the first, and I'm so glad I decided to continue reading!
Part One ended on a bit of a flat note, in my opinion. You COULD have stopped reading the series at the end, though you'd have some unanswered questions. Nothing riveting or that had you shouting at your screen asking, "What happened to blah blah blah!?"
HOWEVER, almost from the start of Part Two, there was action. Sila and her Clan were kicking rears and taking names whenever they were able. By the end? Everyone pretty much got what they deserved, both the good guys and the bad.
The series continues with characters we've got to know as well as new ones, though I'm not sure if I'll finish reading them at this time. I did read other reviews, and someone mentions Cat again, so I'm curious if she makes an appearance again, somehow. I think I'm going to take a break and read something else before deciding if I continue on. I'm content with where things ended here, but the characters are definitely loveable enough to possibly come back to!
I enjoyed the first part of “Altered”, but I have to say this second part of the duet is definitely my favorite. I love it when the bad guys meet their match and it was absolutely awesome to watch them get what they deserve in this second part of the duet. I admit, I was a little confused with the timeline at the start, but it didn’t last lang enough to really bother me too much. And the storyline itself got me sucked in quickly anyway.
Also, the author took an original take on the rejected mate trope with this one… I’m not going to give away spoilers, but where it’s usually a complete redemption arc or a villain arc, I truly love the fact the author took a third road with this one.
I’m planning on checking out more work by this author, simply because she manages to create some unexpected twists in widely used tropes and I’m curious to see what else she has come up with. It’s not always easy to find something new and original out there, and this author really managed to surprise me, in a good way.
I loved part 2 of Sila's story. Sila, Nox, Bash and Kane want to establish themselves as an official clan, but nothing is easy for these guys. Its a couple of years after part 1 and they've made it to college.
The relationship between these 4 is sweet but so, so steamy. They may look like a bunch of mismatched shifters but they fit together perfectly.
Sila now has to deal with Simon and Catherine and she does it brilliantly. I was not expecting the way Simon's story goes and I have to say I didn't like the way it ended up, I can see why, but doesn't mean I like it.
Sila has no trouble when she comes up against multiple threats and barriers, she deals with everything in her stride, she has the dominant power and the political skills to cope with pretty much anything.
This book was the ultimate 'get back at the mean girl' and the 'good guys win'. The 'baddie' characters were a little stereotypical in their actions but I still really enjoyed the journey to defeating them.
There's a HEA for the clan and an epilogue 4 years ahead, but this book ties up Sila and her guys' story.
So to start, this book is set after they get out of reficio and are starting college. So that right there was a surprise because we miss what? A year or 2? Anyway so this us college. A lot happens in this book. We still have the same charaters, Sila and her men, Cyril and petra, and lets not forget Simon and catherine. I know what your thinking with those last 2 names but let me tell you, you have no idea lol. Silk is different in this one, more self assured and sassy. The guys are still their living over protective selves. I think you will be surprised by the actions of some of the characters and the way the story plays out. I am a politely confused and intrigued on the very ending though. Is thus the hea for Silk and her men? I believe so. However I believe there is a new story beginning. Pretty good book, tons more steamy scenes, fast paced.
Altered: Part Two, the second book in the Altered Shifters Universe series by M.F. Moody picks up shortly after the first book left us with Sila and her clan away at m college after finally claiming their own independence and getting Nox out from under his father’s control.
However things don’t go as planned when life intervenes and their lives are once again thrown into chaos when issues from her past resurface. Questioning everything, our group flounders to remain in control admits all the turmoil, corruption, betrayals and deceit as they seek revenge against those that had wronged them.
I loved seeing Sila come into her own, as well as how tightly her guys came together to protect her and help her amongst their enemies. If you’re a fan of fast paced unique fated mate, found family, shifter stories full of action, nonstop surprises and betrayals around every corner then this is the one for you! And that ending?!? I can’t wait for more from this world!!!
Brilliant conclusion to this duet, as I finished book 1 I didn’t realise that there was a direct follow on. Definitely well worth reading it rounds up the unanswered questions from book 1 as well as setting the stage for the next book in the same universe (books 3 & 4 appear to be standalone stories).
Sila and her mates are on the verge of heading to University as well as formalising their own Clan. There’s just the issue of getting her Sabre Toothed Tiger released from his current collective, his abusive father is unlikely to agree to the request. It’s just as well that these type of things are handled by a dominance challenge.
Loved this follow on to Altered (pt.1), the characters are very relatable and the story is well written. Highly recommend for fans of Urban Fantasy, it’s a shifter centric story with a well thought out background and plot.
Fast-paced book throwing readers into a world where everything—and everyone—isn’t quite what it seems. It’s one of those books that hooks you right from the beginning with a blend of intrigue and mystery in this fast-burn RH storey.
It's also completely different from the normal shifter-type stories with shifters that have been abused or have had horrific life experiences and find themselves grappling with sudden and inexplicable changes to their animal side, hence the title "ALTERED."
This is the second and final book in this duet - The first book was good but this one was amazing as teh world building continues, polictics encrouch into the storey which i am not a fan of but in this book they actually have a place as it shows shortcomings within the Prides - I love that Sila comes into her own and with out giving anything away has her day and totally shines!
Ok this is a sequel to Altered Part 1 and this is of course part 2. If you have not read part 1 it is necessary that you read part 1 before reading this because book. Otherwise you get to read more of the story about the foursome that is made up of Altered Shifters that you started reading about in part 1. Oh my this is a really good sequel it ties up the plot threads of part 1 and it sets you up for a another book in the same universe. Like part 1 there is some pretty good 🔥 🔥 🔥 going on in this book, probably even more as this ia pretty smutty. Oh yeah I love it and I really like how the foursome interacts with each, really excellent Reverse Harem going on. Really great book with a great HEA and I want more to read by this writer.
As book two starts the Novo Clan has formally requested Nox's father the Shere Rajan from the Streak Pride,Nox's release from his father's pride, but due to his fathers attitude and trying to dominate Sila, She as the Prima of the Novo Clan used her dominance and won against the Shere Rajan. Sila now has the rights to Lennox Tigris (Nox) and has strip his father of his leadership, and forced him to admit to the whole Shifter Council all his wrong doings. Now that the Novo Clan is complete they head of to college, Bash, Kane, Nox, and of course Sila. You would think that was the end of the story but that is not to be. This story is vast in it's story line of duplicity and other crimes you will relish every moment of reading it. Plus there is a teaser for the authors next book.
After going through all the pain and suffering, it is time for Sila to deliver retribution to her archnemesis Catherine and those who tolerated or supported Sila being bullied. With the involvement of the Council, Sila grows into her power and deals with the challenges as they come and go, discovering allies and betrayals on the way, while strengthening her newly made bonds. Seeing Sila back in strength, her mates opening up and changing, and their pack slowly making their name and establishing their place brings a lot of satisfaction. Reading through all the hardship, the ups and downs, is not always easy, and the corruption runs deep, yet Sila's character is amazing and her actions speak volumes. I really enjoyed this book.
Sila talks a big game when it comes to being ruthless but she doesn't do what needs to be done (i.e. kill) to what's-her-tits. And then she's friends with Simon??? Like, what?
I think the fact that she went easy on them bothers people because everyone in the book keeps talking about how brutal the shifter community is, but we don't see that play out. There's a fight, but it's a few scratches and bruises. There are supposed to be life and death consequences in this world but everything ends up as light and fluffy as cotton.
Eh, not keen on reading anything by this author again.
I was so looking forward to reading this one, after the events of part 1 there was a lot of payback due! It didn't disappoint either, I loved the way things were dealt with, there was payback, and forgiveness with a redemption arc in there too. The twist of fate for Simon was a slight surprise, but if you'd been paying attention in book 1 you'd have seen it coming but what the swan shifter did was heinous, and I'm glad Sila was there to prevent it from being so much worse. I loved that we saw how well Sila and her guys had bonded over time and that little snippet at the end really got me hooked for the next story from this world.
In Part 2, Sila really comes into her own, accepting her power and the authority that comes with it. Her guys are right there with her, supporting her effortlessly, working as a well-honed machine. While dealing with threat to herself and her pack, Sila also discovers deep seeded corruption among high-ranking members of the shifter community that needs to be dealt with and shut down for good. There is no one better to handle the task than Sila, Kane, Bash and Knox. This story is all about love, forgiveness, redemption and salvation. This book was even better than Book 1 and I can't wait to see more from this author.
Sila, Kane, Bash, and Nox are now in college. Sila is getting the chance to face her tormentors from high school. Simon is nothing like he used to be. Sila and her Clan adopt him as family. Catherine and her Pride are all almost corrupt and disgusting. Catherine's Leo decides to fight Sila for leadership. Sila wins, but Catherine and her father try to cheat. Catherine's lioness is sick and dying because of her human and asks to be set free and Sila agrees. The Leo and his second are also killing their lions so Sila releases them as well. The Nova Clan can now finally concentrate on college.
I received an Advance Reader Copy for an honest review.
Well things are never easy for the Novo Clan, with constant threats to their family and their very lives. There is deceit and betrayal around every corner, but unexpected allies.I love the humour and sarcasm that is displayed in this well written work and how Sila and her guys don't care about what other people think but do what they know is the right thing to do - whether that means being tough or showing mercy. I love this series and the way the characters grow throughout, and how their relationships grow. There is plenty of spice and plenty of other action in between. The guys are growly and possessive, but they have nothing on Sila herself! A great read!
Book 2 starts 18 months after book one. Sila And the rest of your clan are in college. They all have learned ways to deal with their altered self. And if they can't then one of the others step in and helps. This makes their dynamic unbelievable and a true family bond. Unfortunately you haven't seen the last of Simon or Cat. It was some seriously unexpected events with both. We also get to see more of other people that enter their lives before Sila became altered. As well as some of our favorites from the school council. We also made a few new friends and new enemies. Amazing job MF!
Not quite as good as book 1. There were some plot holes in this book that definitely took away from the story. I also got confused a few times with names, where a character is referred by a last name in one place and a first name in another place, made it hard to keep up because it wasn’t consistent. I did feel the last 25% felt forced, though it end with a happy for now situation, not a HEA. I don’t regret the 2 book series, though I wouldn’t re-read it or continue with more in the series or an off-shoot to this one.
This book/series was so entertaining - a dystopian world packed with shifters with varying abilities and different colleges and government agencies. I loved this book. The characters are fantastic - a strong, kick ass FMC and MMCs that are hot, protective, sensitive, kinky, cheeky and dangerous. There were so many different types of shifters and abilities plus loads of banter, spice and action - the trial was fantastic!! There was never a dull moment and I loved it. If you love paranormal RH, you should definitely read this series.
MF gives us an absolutely wonderful book for the finale of this duet! Sila and the guys are doing well 2 years later at college when the past rears it's ugly head and sets off a wild series of emotions and events on the way to a very satisfying HEA! How do they get there you ask? Dive into this wonderfully written story with complex characters and plot twists that keep you on the edge of your seat and unwilling to put it down until the end! I loved reading this story and highly recommend it! Don't miss out on this book!!
