As college soccer stars, competition had come often and easily to best friends Kyle and Aaron, both on the field and in the bedroom. Across four years, any number of satisfied women had passed between their beds, caught up in a game between two dominant, demanding men set on being The Best , with no room for regrets.
Except Cassie.
Sassy, sweet, stunningly beautiful—and, most importantly, their friend —Cassie had unknowingly played a unique role in the long game of the one who had gotten away, separately, from both Kyle and Aaron. For years, she has ruminated over her own regrets with the two—and her own forbidden fantasies, as hot and torrid as the summer sun.
Now, years later in the midst of a seductive beach vacation, competition resurfaces, and more intensely than ever—not only for who will get there first, but who will get Cassie better…get her off better, that is. And, now that they’ve clued Cassie into the game, a new player Cassie herself, who seeks her own form of victory with her own prize in mind.
When it comes to competition, some win and some lose. But, in this case, can everyone win? The prize, at least, is a new relationship, forged between the three, that promises a future of untold carnal pleasures—in triplicate.
Book two in the Beachside Ménage series, although each novella stands alone. Summer might be over, but your erotic fantasies don’t have to be.
Author’s Featuring three points of view and chock-full of dirty dialogue, titillating foreplay, and steamy sex, Competition is a MFM romantic erotic novella that focuses entirely on the woman with no MM scenes.
Maisie Beasley writes contemporary romantic erotica that focuses upon mutual consent and shared pleasure—erotica written “through the female gaze,” according to one reviewer. Whether that means two lovers—or three or more—may depend upon the story, but Maisie promises to deliver dirty dialogue and steamy scenes to keep you titillated until the final page.

Cassie has always felt guilty about kissing and almost hooking up with both Kyle and Aaron -- two of her best friends -- within a couple of weeks of each other many years ago. She's felt awful for doing that to them because they are best friends. But it turns out they've known about it for years. And aren't mad about it.
Now they have a friendly competition going on of who can win her first. A competition that looks like it might have multiple winners in the end.
Unfortunately this one didn't hit the same as the first book. The hottest thing about the first book is how much James wants to share Millie with his best friend Luke -- like DESPERATELY wants it. With this one it feels like Cassie saw Millie with her guys, got jealous, and then latched on to the two closest guys to get the same thing.
We are told that they have a history and are best friends and such, and that helps. But I didn't feel that deep-seated longing between them. And it seemed like Kyle and Aaron only got to the point of sharing her because it's what SHE wanted and not necessarily what they wanted.
The steam when we got to it just didn't feel as hot because the buildup wasn't as good. It was okay, but not burning up the pages or anything like that.
I also didn't like the characters as much. Cassie feels bossy and jealous and a little petty. Aaron and Kyle seem like they only want Cassie because they want to beat the other guy. None of them felt genuine or passionate about each other to me.
Also the scene with them listening (and getting off to) Millie, Luke and James having sex was weird to me. It was kind of awkward but also really fucking confusing to follow the scene because it kept jumping to what the other three were doing.
Overall I really didn't hate this one. It was okay. But let's just say if this had been the first book in the series then I probably wouldn't have wanted to read on. As it is I will read the final book in the series (about Annette) because I'm hoping it will be more on par with the first book in the series.

This story starts as a fun rivalry between three friends and evolves into a happily ever after for all. I loved the intense way that Aaron and Kyle competed for Cassie, and how the game morphed into the giving of pleasure. The books in this series are so detailed and lushly written that I really felt in the moment with the characters.
This was entertaining but I didn't like it as much as the first book.
The good: the competition element was fun.
The meh: the emotional depth wasn't there - it seemed quick for them to go from being friends, to the competition, to some sort of longer term arrangement.
The 'not my preference': the setting for some of the sex scenes, including the listening to the throuple from book 1 (so many people I lost track!) and the dressing room scene.
Quick & dirty read, but not nearly as entertaining as book 1. There was just something lacking in the connection between 3 supposed ‘best friends’.
Also 2 major (technically, minor) pet peeves of mine - the e-book version ended at 86%. Boo. And the cover models don’t look anything like the character descriptions! Double boo.
very cute, but it didn't have quite the spark that shared had. still, beasley creates realistic, likeable people with great chemistry. also, seeing millie, luke, and james in this novel felt organic to the story and not like an authorial self-indulgence.
After loving the first one I had high hopes for #2, but sadly it did not hit for me. Couldn’t get into the characters and had trouble finishing this one.
