With the discovery that Selene can communicate with Presto and that the Fae are ramping up their efforts in trying to invade the mortal world, life shifts at Hale Hall. Whether it’s for better or worse, she can’t tell just yet. However, she knows that she’s caught in the middle of a maelstrom.
Cullen is much more fond of her. Mrs. A keeps her comments to herself, aside from a snide remark here and there, but Selene understands that she disapproves of the match even though Rowena seemed pleased. Meanwhile, Sheriff Andrew Fitts refuses to back down on his efforts to woo Selene, even if that means stepping on Cullen’s toes in the process.
When a student from a nearby university is found dead on the castle grounds, Selene is caught up in yet another investigation. Considering the student is a well-loved baseball player for the university team, the case attracts a fair amount of media attention to the property, which is the last thing Hale Hall needs in a time like this.
At the same time, Selene starts having strange premonitions after her encounter with the handsome fae that has her on her toes.
She senses that there are more weaknesses in the portal that she hasn’t considered. Where? It’s the million-dollar question, but she senses something amiss. Particularly, a small abandoned shack half a mile away from Hale Hall draws her in and refuses to let go.
Cullen is closer, Sheriff Fitts wants to get closer, and Jayne keeps wondering what is going on with her friend. At this point, Selene asks herself the same question. But most importantly, what’s the deal with Presto?
Sara Bourgeois is a Midwesterner through and through. She spends her time writing, reading, herding cats, and standing in her driveway during tornado warnings. (You can't see them from the basement.)
In book 1 the twins where 20 and in thier 2 nd year university I'm Scotland plus thier farther new girlfriend was having twins now in book 3 thier 18 and only 1 baby in book 2 she of girls changed I ignored it as I'm reading the books in sequence in one go well it's annoying when author makes these kind mistakes
This is an entertaining paranormal women’s fiction series. Great cast of characters and an entertaining storyline. A woman in her 40s recently divorced and her twin daughters off to college. Is moving on with her life and has taken a job converting an old castle into a bed-and-breakfast and then going to manage it. While doing this Something Happens that she finds unbelievable. The owner of the castle apparently was a guardian witch. Are used to protect the area from there say people from invading our realm. Guardian witches are spaced around the country in the world protecting areas where the veil is finished and the Fae can sometimes sneak through. As she tries to do her job of managing the castle and doing restoration as well as helping the local sheriff figure out different crimes. She must also protect the area from the faith doing evil deeds in the human realm. She is new to the magic and is still learning but with the help of a cat that only she and other magic people can see she is learning as she goes. It is an entertaining series and a pretty fast read as well. Check it out
I tried, but I couldn't get through it, which isn't something I do often. I was hoping a book with a main character in her 40s wouldn't be full of teen angst, but here it is. She's getting her own facts wrong. Her twin daughters' ages keep changing. He ex-husband's new wife to be is having twins, and then there's only one baby. Her cat can talk but won't. I can't tell you how many times I turned the page and the thought process of our heroine had jumped to something new, and I have to look back to make sure I didn't turn two pages because it feels so disjointed. I love so many of her other books, but this series is sloppy and disappointing.
Poor Selene is getting overwhelmed between her job, the sheriff's attention, her boss's attention, trying to study her magic books, and of course worried about her twin girls and creepy ex. Even though she likes Cullen the most, she decides she needs to simplify her life and hold off on the romantic complications. Fortunately it does give her a little more time to solve the latest murder. Too bad it is a neighbor and friend of Mrs Anderson!
I really like the characters in this story and series. Selene works at Hale Hall Castle cleaning up the rooms and sorting out what to keep and throw out so eventually open as a Bed & Breakfast but another murder happens on the property so Selene and Presto, her invisible cat start looking for clues. There is romance brewing between Cullen who owns Hale Hall & Sheriff Andrew Pitts giving Selene problems doing her job at Hale Hall and keeping her secret from them that she is a witch protecting Hale Hall Castle.
This was so good! I really like these characters and the mystery was really good and hard to figure out. I liked the mix of human and magical in the story. Oh, to only really have magic!.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Good read. Started slow at first, then as you kept turning the passages of the kindle book, the less lightly you felt like wanting to learn who the killr would be
It starts with another murder at the Hall. Fae or humans another who done it. Selena's love life is difficult. She likes Collin but he's human and she's a witch. What's a girl to do?
This Tory was all over the place. It might be just me. All her reasons for not seeing what might happen with the castle owner seemed trivial to me, talk about over thinking. The sheriff is nice but not what she needs. Common sense is needed
This is a well written and has well developed characters. The story is catching and with the strong characters makes for a very enjoyable read. Great Reading Everyone!
