Hero & his friends are utterly vile and the heroine is pathetic. We have a "Hero" so loathsome towards heroine for the ENTIRE freaking story that you are left with "what the hell did I just read!".
SPOILERS
Plot:
Hero is 2 years younger then heroine. When they were in college, this asshole and a group of his friends got together to bring "Mayhem" to those they feel deserve payback in the form of punishment. It's in one instance where they are pursuing some guy to punish him for some grievance that they see heroine and "rescue" her from the evil one.
He & his friends then make a bet that if he sleeps with the "vampire" (that's the name they call her throughout the book because she is pale white & they don't see her in daylight - only at night), they'll pay him $300. So he pursues heroine, f**ks her and then gets his money and laughs at her the next day when she learns she was just a pity f**k & a bet.
Now in the present, it's 6 years later and heroine who is a sports agent, works for this douche - and she has a stalker on her hands. You would think that she would be vengeful and full of hate for him and his friends and seek revenge, right? Yeah..NO. While she & Hero don't like one another for 98% of the story, Hero (and one of his friends, Connor) is constantly vile to her and she just takes it. They have this competition going on that he constantly wins. He's always stealing her clients, putting her down every chance he gets, is indifferent to her in both his thoughts and in his day to day interaction (aka not attracted to her), calls her "vampire" all throughout the book which is NOT in any way a form of affection but an insult, leaves her in a parking garage alone when her tires get slashed by a madman, laughs at her with his friends when the stalker infiltrates her home and does something in her bed (all while she is scared to death), constantly states how he never gave her a bleeping thought after he had f**d her in college and doesn't give a s**t about her in the present, plays head-games, allows him to f**k her knowing that in the past she was just a quick f***k & a bet to him. Someone he used, laughed at and threw away - yet keeps going back for more because he is the best f**k she ever had. 🙄
Then at around the 95% or so, after he finally gets a clue that she is in danger and needs help, he decides to offer protection and moves her to his home where eventually they start to f**k. Yep - sex, not lovemaking.
Then we have in the last chapter where the stalker has beaten heroine up and he & his friends come to her rescue, a talk with one of his friends where he is supposedly told that he has always had feelings for her (🤬) and HFN. The End.
Uhm....is this anyone's idea of a love-story?
Safety: No OM/OW drama except for the stalker after heroine. No rape scenes. Some abuse in both verbally (by Hero) and physically (by stalker to heroine).
Sexual history is brief. Neither are celibate after their hookup in college. She had a college BF that things didn't work out but no info if she had slept around with lots of dudes after their first hook up.
He continued his Manho ways and we are told that 6 months prior he screwed a business colleague's (or client) wife or sister (can't remember). Heroine had been working for him for 2 years so in that time, he was still sleeping around with others.
Slight BDSM. No HEA. No attraction, bonding or anything to tell me they are meant to be. In fact, quite the opposite.
