It’s a simple and valid answer when the question pops up, “Why do you write?”
At the end of the day, it is to tell a good tale.
Vince Milam has lived all over the world, traipsing through the Amazon, Congo, and Papua New Guinea—all the while demonstrating bourbon has medicinal qualities. Raised in Texas, he lives in the mountainous West where he proves—annually—that God doesn’t want us driving on snow. He relishes great reads, fine trout streams, family, old friends, and—especially—writing fast-paced thrillers that keep you up at night.
If you have not had the pleasure of reading a Case Lee novel do yourself a favor and jump in. Most of my reviews are simple and aim to give you, the reader of this review, an idea of the kind of books I read and then let you know if I think you'd like this book and author. So here goes -
I'm a Ckany, Thor, Flynn, Greaney Techno-Thriller guy and I must say Vince Milan is my favorite out of all the above authors and then some.
You get plenty of the military thriller in his books, well written and not over the top, coupled with the absolute best dialogue writing of them all. Throw in a great storyline and you get a hell of an author and a hours of wonderful entertainment in each novel.
If you are fans of any of the authors I listed above, do yourself a favor and atop reading this review and buy the first book in the series = I promise you'll be back to buy this one (the most recent Case Lee adventure) in no time. Trust me, you'll be back hear before you know it. You can thank me later.
Quick note = I paid for this book, got nothing in return for this review and do not personally know the author. Hope this helps you all looking for a great book to enjoy.
I really enjoy these books. The combination of action scenes with evocative scene descriptions is excellent. This particular story was one I could not put down. I do not how Vince Milam does it, but there are no uninteresting plots or "magic" formulas (so many authors fortify their main characters with apparently invincible, overwhelmingly armed friends who always appear no matter where or why when the hero is in trouble). Case Lee's ex-Delta colleagues can serve that role, but more often than not he acts alone. Case is getting on in years, though - hopefully he and his cohorts will not soon expire, because I want more books!
‘A solid gig, with no violent earmarks. A missing scientist. Can do easy’ – Case Lee is at it again!
Idaho author Vince Milam retains as much mystery about his background as he imbues in his supernatural mystery thrillers. From his resume, only the following offers a few facts: `I live in the Intermountain West where soaring mountains and vast high deserts give a person plenty of room to think. I've lived and worked in over twenty-five countries around the globe, am a certified Wellness Coach, have a coterie of dear friends and family that provide succor and support, and have an old dog that is also a best buddy. I have an affinity for characters of all stripes, and strive to bring out the uniqueness of my literary protagonists.' His Case Lee series continues with THE SAWTOOTH JOB.
Milam‘s manner of conducting a suspense filled thriller is wholly refreshing. His language grows more eloquent with each new book and his ability to retain memories of the early books of the series enhances this story – but this book is quite easily a stand alone novel, so well crafted has Vince made the plot. He submits the following summary: ‘The stakes couldn’t be higher. A mysterious discovery that would change the global balance of power. Two scientists become the world’s hottest commodity. One is captured, the other on the run. Enter Case Lee, with lethal spy organizations in hot pursuit. They quickly discover they’re messing with the wrong guy. The novel opens with ‘It started with mystery and misdirection and shadowland fog. It ended with terminal actions and lies and a murky affirmation I’d done the right thing. “We are not alone, my Georgia peach.” Bo’s statement slapped bad new across the immediate setting. When Bo made such a claim, you took it to the bank. I pulled the Glock from my jacket, turned, and began asking for elaboration. He had gone. Disappeared. Typical…’ One of the many aspects that make Vince such a successful novelist is his spectrum of characters he deftly creates and also his deft painting of the many global locales in which he places his Case Lee. His scenes are so well crafted that they plead visualization in cinema! Vince Milam is now recognized as one of the major writers of suspense novels writing today. Polished to a fare-thee-well, this is another superb action thriller.
Case Lee Works His Way Through A Quagmire, With A Little Help From His Friends.
Case is “hired” to find Ruth Hall PhD, who has disappeared along with her PhD husband Bart. Together they were working on what seems to be a ground-breaking discovery. As the circumstances become more clear, one big question looms: If they are working together and are both missing, why has Case been hired to only find Ruth? The situation becomes more complex as Chase realizes he is not the only one looking for Ruth, it seems every spook agency in the world is looking for her, too. Following the few clues he finds, Chase and crew close in on a location. What follows is an all-out scramble to stay one step ahead of the onslaught while protecting Ruth.
This book deserves 10 Stars! As Case Lee stories go I was hooked from the beginning and it kept getting better and better. So many twists and turns, so many poignant moments kept me reading well past bedtime. Vince Milan has created the best book of the series so far. I’ll be waiting to see if the next one can top The Sawtooth Job.
Author Vince Milam had a fascinating plot in book 8 of this series, called The DC Job, in which Case Lee had the unenviable task of a missing fourteen year old girl. That mission turned out to have a heck of a lot more going on than you would ever have thought a missing person case might involve. Now, in The Sawtooth Job, Case is again requested to hunt down a missing person, but this time a female scientist. But the thing is, her husband, a very capable engineer, is also missing. So, why would the mission boils down to finding Ruth only? And why would a half dozen agencies from as many countries all be involved? Once again this spells out but major problems in the making. Lethal ones at that too. I guess I became somewhat used to how these books of author Vince Milam all demand just about every single moment of your time available to see what happens next. The Sawtooth Job is no exception. Enjoy
Vince Milam has the greatest ability to take about any topic in which his heroes become involved and make it exciting. Sitting naked in a hot pool of water with the wife of the person the are trying to find, going around a mountain in the middle of the night with no lights and about an inch of clearance from a thousand foot drop, etc., etc., etc!!! Of course his heroes are rarely, if ever, injured in battles with numerous bad folks and it is fun to read about the toil and turmoil of these adventures. In short you should read his books if you enjoy fast action, tender moments for balance and want to stay awake! Not just this one but all of them. And this one is a fine read, as anticipated.
I greatly enjoyed the first 8 books of the series, but beginning with book 9 I became annoyed with the unnecessary and inappropriate use of the term “bud.” Any romantic relationship that referred to me as “bud” more than one in a lifetime would fail. The same with close combat brothers. “Bud” is used emphatically with unknown folks that mat cause heightened suspicion, but with those who are close. The author’s use was distracting, at first, and later flat out irritating.
Another great read. I have enjoyed every one of the Case Lee books. Action, great story lines but also love and caring about friends and family. I am always amazed at the excellence of the writing, and can't believe how inexpensive these books are. Hope this series goes on for a very long time. Thank you Vince Milam, you write because you enjoy it and it's obvious you have had a life of wonderful experiences definitely worth sharing.
I’ve loved all of Mr Milam’s Case Lee adventures. I don’t how he does it but he outdoes himself with each new installment. In this one, we travel from the Pacific Northwest to South America, Central America and home again. Along the way he encounters agents from most clandestine agencies in the world. Needless to say action and mayhem abound. Highly recommended and I’m waiting anxiously for his next gem.
Read a few Case Lee books then stopped. Started up again, mainly because of the locale in the title, expecting more SOF buddy bonding and weird philosophy and I found it! But I suprised myself by finding the break worked and it was fun again. I have a modest background and the story was pretty well laid, tools and tactics fairly good, and the characters outstanding. I guess I'll be reading more.
All the usual suspects were in this story, both good and bad. Case's heart is so big and his blood brothers never fail to help him do the right thing. I loved the couple they rescued, the Halls. So much love and trust between them. I finished the book in a little over one day and now I can't wait for the next one!!
The first Case Lee book that I read, was nice easy reading. I then read the next, and the next, and found myself drawn into the Case Lee world. Good Character development, and good stories held me throughout the series. I find I would like to know more about the characters I have come to love.
I thoroughly enjoy how Case gets himself into these complicated situations. And, I appreciate how no matter the cost, he stays true to his principles. His ex-Delta buddies are well developed characters, who together display true loyalty and friendship. I look forward to the next book.
Many an author try to make a telling story exciting with multiple climaxes in the plot but Vince does it so simple that you do not realize you are waiting for the next page turn. I found myself several times forcing myself to stop reading. Another Great Case Lee adventure. Well done Mr. Milan. I can not wait for the next story.
A constant reader, I seldom stick with one writer for an entire series, but I read, and enjoyed every one of these consecutively. I read a lot of Special Forces and Espionage novels, and I like Case's inclusion of his "real" life in these stories. I look forward the Book 11 in this excellent series.
I LOVE every Case Lee novel and The Sawtooth Job is no exception. Vince Milam has done a great job developing the consistent characters of the series. When I’m reading I feel as if I am right there with Case and his group of amazing friends and warriors. And I love how Case lives so humbly close to his family on his beat up boat! I hope this series never end!!!
Chase Lee takes a job, it isn't really what he expected. Vince Milam has made the Chase Lee novels a mainstay for readers everywhere. His characters make you laugh, cry and feel their pain. These books are delightful!
Love these books. In another life I could see myself as a Case Lee person. I travel the world with Case and enjoy it more with every story. Can't wait for the next contract.
Milam has created a nice familiar formula. A consistent cast of characters with changing scenery. Lots of action in this one, but maybe a bit heavy on the Dude-speak. From Bo it’s expected, but it snuck into the narration too and grew tiresome.
Case Lee does not disappoint!! His character has a interesting backstory and the story line provides lots of action. His family and friends add to the plot line every time and add a layer of warmth and complexity to this series! Enjoy! I cannot wait for the next book!
After the 500th time in just about every paragraph I stopped. You know there are other words that describe a choice. Option. Jeesh. Most of the time the sentence can be read quiet nicely without it.
Typical Case Lee, the commando we all wish we were. You won't be disappointed. More global trotting, more bad guys taken out and more good guys win. The way it should be.
Always like the locales and doing extra googling on them. Learn something new each book. Need to visit the sawtooth mountains now. Bits of the characters come out a bit more each book to and I like the wonder and wisdom FC brings.
Another page turner from Vince Milam. His books never fail me. A great read. The bond between the Delta Force brothers never waivers. His commitment to family and "brothers" never a question. Thanks Vince, waiting for the next adventure.
I've read all the books in the Case Lee series. I've yet to find one that is not well written and an enjoyable read. They contain diverse characters and many twists and turns, but with a good amount of action. Looking forward to the next one!
Great story that did not slow down. I loved the characters interactions with Bart. So good and such empathy for someone who had never been in this type of situation before. Kudos Mr. Milam. I loved it.
This book covers many facets. Helping others, gun battles, love, friends, so many of all of threaded throughout the book. A sense of right and wrong, doing the right thing for good people. It can even bring a tear to your eyes.
This is one of the best, if not the best, story. It took me to countries I had not visited (Ecuador, Colombia &Panama). And the plot is just great. Never saw it coming. Also enjoyed the language of Bart😜 Up to the next adventure 👍
I've read all the books by Vince Milam . All of them hair-rising. This one, the 10th Case Lee book, is the brightest and twisted of the co!ection. From Monica Beltrami, Montevideo, Uruguay (The inverted heart in South America, between Argentina and Brazil.)
