Following the examples of independent comic creators such as Dave Sim and Jeff Smith, he decided to publish Strangers in Paradise himself through his own Houston-based "Abstract Studios" imprint, and has frequently mentioned a desire to do a syndicated cartoon strip in the authors notes at the back of the Strangers in Paradise collection books. He has also mentioned his greatest career influence is Peanuts' Charles Schulz.[1] Some of Moore's strip work can additionally be found in his Paradise, Too! publications.

His work has won him recognition in the comics industry, including receiving the Eisner Award for Best Serialized Story in 1996 for Strangers in Paradise #1-8, which was collected in the trade paperback "I Dream of You".

It was announced on June 15th, 2007 that Moore would be taking over for Sean McKeever as writer of Marvel Comics's Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane series starting with a new issue #1. On July 27th, Marvel announced that Moore would also take over for Joss Whedon as writer of Marvel's Runaways.[2]

On November 19th, 2007 Terry Moore announced in his blog that his new self-published series would be named Echo and its first issue would appear on March 5th, 2008.[3]

Zoe, a psychopathic killer who looks like a little girl, chases a psychopathic killer who looks like a harmless woman, but has killed one of Zoe’s few friends.
This graphic novel is a lot less funny than the author’s other books and much more brutal, cruel and grim. And yet I have a suspicion that you’ll sympathize with the female main characters, both of them assassins. At least I did.
It’s definitely the darkest work by Terry Moore that I’ve ever read. So far …
4.5 stars.

Terry Moore once again proves that he's a master of visual storytelling!

Terry Moore's creation - the preteen serial killer, Zoe, has been an absolute creepy joy in most things I've read. That said, there's nothing to fear here if you're a new reader. There is no looming sense of missing out at all with Serial.

There's no getting away from the fact that this book is very mature, graphic and extremely on the knuckle with both its content and themes - so tread carefully! Terry Moore handles this exceptionally well though with a cat and mouse premise that gives way into plot twists and reveals that make for some great pacing and even some quite heartfelt moments!

It can be light on dialogue in parts, but this isn't necessarily a bad thing and just further serves to show how good Moore is at telling a visual story with his quirky yet exceptional illustrations.

Overall, this was a near perfect read for me. Everything is on point here from the creepy characterisation through to the cleverly thought out plot and illustrations! Serial is a book I just couldn't put down and I'd highly recommend it.

Pure awesomeness, but I'm biased. I love Zoe. I love Terry Moore's art. The story here has some flaws and omissions, but I didn't care, I'm too invested in this world.

So Zoe's a 50 year old serial killer who looks like 10 year old girl (I'm assuming this book takes place somewhere between the end of Rachel Rising Omnibus and the beginning of Strangers In Paradise XXV Omnibus) and her friend and the friend's husband have just been brutally killed. What we have here is a kind of detective story where our old/young serial killer is trying to track down another serial killer before the police do.
Terry Moore's artwork is great as always, the story is full of morally gray areas like "why is killing objectively bad people wrong" and the plot works.
I docked a star because (like in pretty much all of Terry's book) while the women in the book can span the spectrum of pretty to plain, smart to stupid, good to evil, the male characters always end up being stupid, self-pitying, misogynistic a*sholes except for the one token guy character in the whole book who isn't.

I enjoyed this book a lot! Spinning out of Rachel Rising, this series takes a totally different turn and improves in so many ways. This book knows what it is and it does it well. The pacing in this book works very well. Terry Moore created a really good crime thriller mystery with this one!

Dall’universo narrativo di Strangers in Paradise (citato) e da Rachel Rising, sua diramazione horror, una serie tutta dedicata a Zoe, l’infernale undicenne (“- Sei una ragazza atipica. Quanti anni hai?

Vraiment sympa.

Spin off credo di Rachel raising. E senza quello si capisce poco. Assolutamente dimenticabile in questo contesto. Non lo valuto perché mi manca la base con cui confrontarlo.

I read this after reading Rachel Rising by the same author, as it's set in the same reality with one of the same characters, Zoe, an ageless murderer in the body of a young girl who sets out to avenge the death of her friend at the hands of another killer. I enjoyed the last series and I enjoyed this, there is a build up of tension as Zoe begins tracking her quarry, only to in turn realise that she is being tracked herself. I don't want to say too much because it'd spoil it for anyone who follows, but I would recommend you read both these books if nothing else.

So there's this creepy kind of cool story about a girl named Zoe who looks like she's 10 years old, but she's actually 50 and a serial killer. Her best friend and the friend's husband just got murdered, and now Zoe is trying to find the killer before the police do. It's kind of like a murder mystery, but with another killer doing the investigating.

The drawings are really good, and the story makes you think about tough stuff, like if it’s always wrong to kill someone—even if they’re a bad person. The only thing I didn’t love was how most of the guy characters are either dumb or mean, except for like one decent guy. But overall, it’s a pretty intense and interesting read.

After reading the Excellent "Rachel Rising" by Terry Moore I searched out more books written and drawn by him. First up is the book "Serial" and it did not disappoint. Like Rachel Rising it kept me turning the page to read what was coming next. It has a dark tone with interesting and somewhat sympathetic characters. The dialogue between the characters has a nice and natural flow. It does not seems forced nor is it overly wordy.

The art is gorgeous with simple line art. Terry Moore is able to create great facial expressions and emotions with just a few lines.

Dark but brilliant

I do not tend to gush, but T.Moore is incredible. I will start a book, sometimes think "Gee, I don't really know if I like this" and I am suddenly at or near the end of the book/series. Mr. Moore has a real talent for character development as well as roping the reader (at least THIS reader) in, with little hope of escape. So, even if you don't care for the tale at the start, be sure to give it a GOOD chance.
