I very much enjoyed the relationship between Harry and Bridget. She was determined, fearless and kind. Everything he needed to re-build his life. He was patient, soft and protective. Everything she needed after her ex shook her confidence.
The mystery was interesting and the suspense added to the romantic plot. I would definitely read others in the series.
Endearing Characters, Awesome Story I love Historical Regency Romances and Tess Brookman certainly did not disappoint me with this one. When Lady Bridget is jilted three days before her wedding by a lying Lord, she does not think anyone will ever want to marry her. Then her father makes a deal with Harry Westwood, the Duke of Alderha. She will marry him in exchange for a large dowry to get his estate back in order. Both Lady Bridget and the Duke have scars to overcome. Some are visual. Others are hidden. As they come to care for each other, their lives are put in danger when enemies from the past come after them. This is a well written historical romance with intriguing drama, mystery and suspense that kept me enthralled from the first page till the last. I could not put this one down. The extend epilogue was a great addition to the storyline as well. I received an ARC of this book from the author in return for voluntarily writing an honest review.
Harry has come back from the war disfigured, and it's made him into a recluse. Lady Bridget's reputation has been cruelly maligned by a nasty lord day's before they were to be wed. Her father, in desperation, arranges for her to marry the same man known as the beast of Grayfield, Harry Westwood, the Duke of Alderham. He is struggling to recoverthelecacyhis father had destroyed and resigns himself to the marriage to the daughter of a wealthy man. He is surprised to find she doesn't shy from him, in fact she works hard to overcomehis fears and help him rejoin society. Together they work to overcome his past.
I had a hard time putting this one down. I truly enjoyed it! The editing was fantastic, which I always appreciate. I loved the character development of Harry. He transformed from a beast to a gentleman Duke. He just needed someone to show him that the inner “beauty” is what counts. I loved that Bridget was a strong character & did not back down when she felt she needed to push forward. The little bit of suspense gave a bit more depth & intrigue to the story. The end was a surprise, but gave us a HEA. I enjoyed the extended epilogue, too.
What a great journey this story took me on. He did not know that what he really needed was this just this person to bring him back to life. The characters were done so well they came to life right before my eyes. Both of these characters have been hurt by gossip yet they both were so much better than those who believed that nonsense. There is a true villain in this piece so we have a mystery to solve along with our love story. This book was so engaging, a bit unpredictable, and a down-right appealing read. I hope you check it out.
This story was very intriguing. There is a definite villain or two. The heroine has been ruined by a lie. The hero has been scarred in battle and become a recluse. Together they heal each other. The support characters are very important to the flow of the story. One question that was never answered was why the viscount lied about the heroine. The villain who was behind all the duke’s problems was a little bit of a surprise. The steamy scenes were well written and not overly graphic. The extended epilogue even if not readily available in the book was a good climax.
I chose three stars because there are many worse books but, this one isn't very good. The plot of the wounded warrior recluse redeemed by love needs deft hand to be fresh. Instead, it's a race to bed with gratuitous sex scenes. The characters are stock and flat. The new bride immediately launching into decorating was a giggle. I'm not sure of aunty belinda s age or her role. The book was entertaining enough to occupy me while I sat in my doctors waiting room for an hour and a half.
I really did enjoy this story and all the drama that got these two together. Building their relationship and working on their trust in trying to make it work really helped them become a good couple. Papa dearest knew what he was doing when he offered his daughter to the Duke. You got drama, chaos, suspense, romance, and a very HEA. On to the next! #HappyReading ♥
I received an Advance Reading Copy from the Author for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this story. Bridget is forced to marry Harry. He has been badly scarred and hides himself away from society. There are worrying events happening at Harry's brewery and he is trying hard to find the culprit and the reason behind the threats to his wife and his business. Will he be able to find solve the mystery before the villain succeeds. Will Harry come to realise the Bridget is very special to him? Will they find love and be safe? Read on and enjoy.
I liked this book because the heroine Bridgette was strong and brave. Forced into a marriage of convenience, she made up her mind to help her new husband Harry, and restore his home to its former beauty. There was also a problem of someone trying to ruin Harry's business and even trying to hurt Bridget. There are some explicit sex scenes included, but this novel is advertised as a "steamy" romance.
When Bridget is ruined by the lies of her betrothed, her father arranged a marriage of convenience to the Duke, the beast of Graystone. But she is not repelled by the scars on his face, war wounds, but things are always happening that cause problems! Who’s trying to destroy them? Very good book!
Too much push and pull between the main characters
I wanted to love this because it has my favorite trope. But 50% in and there is a push and pull between these characters still! The heroine is constantly trying to get close while he pushes her away. This went on for too long that by the time they got together I no longer cared.
I loved Beauty and the Beast as a story and have read a number of books based on that story. This book does not disappoint! For me it is important that any book is well written and carefully edited for full enjoyment. It goes without saying that the plot, characters and twists in the narrative are what keep me reading. I recommend you curl up with Cato and enjoy this book unreservedly!
This is the first time I have read a book by Tessa Brookman and she will now have a forever fan with me.
Each character in her book were wonderful. She created a strong heroine who was able to balance class and fierceness. A hero who was able to be humble yet fierce. The growth in her characters and the building of their relationship was truly lovely to read and be apart of it.
If your looking for a spicy read this is not the book for you. However, it was a sweet read that had so much growth for her characters. I truly enjoyed this book and look forward to reading her others.
Well written and an enchanting story. Bridget was an out cast from society due to abandon ment at the altar . in those times if a man stated you were sleeping you were ruined in society. Her father contracted a marriage with the beastly duke of alderman who is harry who has been in recluse for some time. Harry had his own problems coming back from the war. He remained distant for quite a while before they both fell madly in love . its a goid story with mystery, intrique and a HEA . would highly recommend thus author and boik. Happy reading.😊
I did enjoy the story. I found the characters a little one dimensional and the pace plodding. There are a few consistent editing mistakes. Most frustrating was trying to tell if Brigitte or Belinda was the heroine. And why give me a whole chapter or more about a labyrinth of tunnels and prison cells and then not use it as a plot device. Could have been better
despite the absolutely foul and embarrassing title lowkey this is one of my favorite reads of the month haha i love a good regency marriage of convenience, and this delivered so well <3 also the side plot had me invested and was genuinely a plot twist for me to the point i had to go back and reread parts to understand where i went dumb and missed seeing it coming lol
Wonderful story, loved the story line, and the characters. Lots of excitement in this tale of love and intriguing excitement. Plots of revenge, and kidnapping, murder, and secrets Uncovered. I loved the epilogue,. Primrose and Iris, we're a delightful touch. And don't forget Cato, their faithful pooch. Thank you ❤️
Bridget had little choice but to marry Harry, the duke who was called a beast due to his face being damaged in war. Bridget was facing a scandal that was hurting the family and agreed to a marriage. Harry was not the beast she was afraid of but there were secrets that she was slowly uncovering UT danger lurked and they had to fight this together. Enjoy!
All the characters are amazing, and have a path of emotional mistrust to walk before welcoming their desires. This is a very compellingly read that will keep you engaged from start to finish.Absolutely captivating, could not put it down!
This was boring، too long and repetitive I skipped most of it just ao I can see where all of this was going And the Villain at the end *COME ON .. REALLY. first and definitely my last for the author

Love Harry's and Bridget's story. Circumstances brought them together. In him she found the love she had always craved for. In her him found hope & redemption. Love this story. Highly recommended!
Love, betrayal, lost love, fear, hopelessness. Every feeling you imagine is between the pages of this book. I could not put it down because I wanted more. Tessa Brookman gives it in her writing.
