Wren Cunningham wants to put her past behind her when she and her teenage son move from Chicago to Georgia to start a new life away from the dark cloud they’ve been living under since Wren’s ex was sent to prison. She tells herself she only has time for her son as she builds a wall around her heart. A wall that threatens to crumble when Phoenix saves her son from a fire. Phoenix is everything she’s never had—thoughtful, gentle, and a good role model for her son. His piercing blue eyes see straight into her soul and the pain she hides. But if the walls around her heart are high, his are higher still.
Phoenix Kent grew up hearing how much he resembled his father, at least physically. Inside, the two men couldn't have been more different. Phoenix's father was a criminal, a murderer, a cop killer. Phoenix is a police officer who volunteers at a community center for troubled teens. After he saves one of the boys, Griffin, from a fire at the center, Phoenix retreats from Griffin’s life, believing he doesn't have what it takes to be a father figure, which the teenager desperately needs. He sure doesn’t believe he deserves to be with Griff’s beautiful mother, Wren, whose painful past mirrors his own.
When Phoenix has no choice but to bring Griff along on a mission to rescue a barn full of abused and neglected horses, he doesn’t realize how much the experience will change Griff’s life. Or how it will bring Wren into Phoenix’s life.
Passion ignites, but can they tear down their walls before it’s too late?
Riley Edwards is a Wall Street Journal and USA Today Bestselling author, wife, and military mom. Riley was born and raised in Los Angeles but now resides on the east coast with her fantastic husband and children.
Riley writes heart-stopping romance with sexy alpha heroes and even stronger heroines. Riley's favorite genres to write are romantic suspense and military romance.
This was a tough one to read, mostly because 3 people are pretty screwed up, all up in their own heads. It really takes the 3 of them being thrown together, talking about all their pasts and how seeing how similar it was before they could move on. I loved that when Phoenix knew he did something wrong he called Echo to talk him through things, it was the right thing to do. Wren was the most not screwed up, but she was trying to raise her boy and not bad mouth the person who hurt them most, when the boy was filled with rage over what his father caused. Griff and Phoenix were both in a situation where they could totally understand one another and Phoenix far enough away from his hurt he could give some advice to Griff. Most of all, I think all of these people needed to be ready to talk, ready to let down the walls and let others in, they were just all lucky they could do it together and build something great!
I hated the drama at the end, but it cemented that this trio was well and truly a family.
Best part of this one was the zinger that Griff tossed out at Echo at the end, so great!
Phoenix, Wren and Griff now own my heart. Words cannot express the gauntlet of emotions I felt while reading this book. Watching Phoenix and Wren pull down their walls to be together wrecked me in the best possible way. They fit right in with all of the other swoony heroes and heroines of Triple Canopy.
This is definitely a family series (found and blood). I was so happy to see Wren and Griff join the fold. I’m already envisioning a third generation of Triple Canopy characters.
In the meantime, these Kent brothers just get better and better. I cannot wait for Echo’s book.
I will never stop recommending this series. I highly encourage everyone to check it out.
Oh how I loved this book! Beginning on page one I adored Phoenix, Wren and Griff. These three people have been betrayed by family members and their pasts, presents and possibly their futures are being molded by that. Their emotional pain is their common bond. Griff is your typical teenager: a lttle rebellious, lots of attitude, less than cooperative. Wren feels she's failing him as a mother. Having to move in order to avoid the ever increasing barrage of publucity and bicious gossip meant ripping Griff from his home, school and friends. She's isolated herself since moving. Work and home are all she does. Phoenix more than any of his siblings was affected by his father's betrayal and crimes. Even now years later that colors everything he does. But, all of the sudden having the chance to make a difference in Griff's life leads to a budding relationship with Wren. Slowly they form a family unit with the help of his sister, brothers and the TC family.
Wow! Phoenix sees himself as damaged, broken beyond repair, but if he was any better he would be a unicorn! He is all man, all growly, grunting, protective, caveman man and he totally fails to see just how good he is and if that doesn't have you swooning the love, care and support he gives Griff will. Phoenix, Wren and Griff are all perfect for each other, they push when they need to, hold back when they need to and they love with their whole hearts. Of course it wouldn't be a Triple Canopy book without danger, mayhem, disaster and at least one emotional bomb that had me sobbing...but that's exactly what has us returning for more! I read this on Kindle Unlimited.
This has been a long-awaited release and Phoenix and Wren didn't disappoint.
This is a slow-burn romance between Phoenix Kent, a police officer who has been volunteering at a local shelter, and rescued Griffen, a 14-year-old boy who's father is in prison and being raised by his mom in a new city, trying to escape the whispers and stares in their old neighborhood.
I really loved how Phoenix and Griffen connected with her shared pasts. Wren has been drawn to Phoenix from the moment she met him and their chemistry is magnetically explosive.
This was a great love story and Phoenix and Griffin will both steal your heart in different ways.
Been waiting for Phoenix & Wren, wish it was a little longer but still it was perfect. Not as much angst as usual, which actually I didn't mind. This story was beautiful in a healing way for sure. Griffin was the show stealer though. The love between them all was amazing. Now if we could please get Echo's story, my world would be perfect.....🙏
There are no words adequate enough to describe how utterly fantastic this book was. I had to keep reading until I finished it. Each book Riley writes becomes my new favorite. And this one was no different. I absolutely fell for Phoenix. He was everything you expect in a Kent sibling. I loved him with Griff and Wren. They just fit. Griff stole the scenes in several places in this book. As always I absolutely loved Echo Kent and can’t wait for his book. It’s soon, right. Pretty please?
What an awesome book. So well written that you feel all the emotions. Dealing with your last so that maybe you can move on. I love Phoenix' story. When and her son are starting over and Phoenix is persuaded to be a mentor for Weeks son Griff. None of their lives have been easy, but maybe they can help each other. Definitely would recommend reading this book. I was given an advanced reader copy and I voluntarily leave this review.
Oh, this book gave me all the smiles and feels. Riley Edwards just has a way of getting right to the heart of people/ her characters, I just love her writing!
The prologue was a nice refresher for the start of the Wren and Phoenix story. We slide beautifully into Riley's trope with a tortured h protecting her son to realising how easy it would be to fall for an amazing hero like the alpha. Then the emotional side rolled into my heart and I began to see through the eyes of Phoenix, and how he believed that mother and son had an inner connection that he assimilated with. Then it was truly refreshing to have our H realise what he needed and how he felt. There was no push pull to tease me just an honest falling for eachother with Grif making 3. There were challenges that all of them needed and the subtle uncanny parallel between the main characters was emotional, but yet another touch of Riley brilliance. As Riley continues to write about family and intertwining emotions in its many forms, it was amazing how i found these problems and feelings running parallel with what's happening in the real world today. Listening to Connor Crais, bringing Phoenix to life and revealing his wrenching childhood and how he works on the bonding/healing with a teenager was wonderful. Then Mackenzie Cartwright just conjours Wren into minds eye and I get wrapped up in her fear for her past, pain for her sons psyche, worry for their future, and butterflies for Phoenix. From the get go i could see Wren was going to have to learn to trust all over again. But then again which one of our kickass heroines don't have their work cut out for them. I'm also loving the comradarie between the sisterhood and the humour that pops in and out. And once the girls latched on, Phoenix didn't stand a chance. There was no military involvement in this novel just the everpresent alphas and a different batch of baddies. It was a harrowing piece of writing bringing animals into the frey as I personally love animal stories and although sad it created not only a wonderful connection between some characters, but a sit bolt upright oh no, explosion of suspense that rolled over me. This book was romance incorporated with the subtle art of love working its magic by slaying demons, fixing broken souls and reinforcing loyalty. It was about installing strength, reinforcing family and doubling down on friendships. And although there wasn't as much steam between our H and h as in other novels, it was still a perfect Riley story. I enjoyed the introduction of new people which leads into another series without really ending this one and it always makes me look forward to listening to more. Echo was heart-warming and I so smiled at the interaction with Wren toward the end. Thankyou Riley for yet another awesome story.
“Phoenix Kent could be gentle. He could be sweet. But when he kissed, he possessed.”
Shattered is my favorite book in Riley Edwards’ Triple Canopy series! I adore Phoenix and Wren; while they both have their own baggage, they are two of Riley’s most well-rounded, down-to-earth characters and I love them. Wren is slightly more hesitant at first, but she and Phoenix are both direct and level-headed, albeit a bit tongue-tied for one another. The chirping between the Walker women and the entire crew is always amazing, but it felt extra special in Shattered. Maybe it’s that the series is coming to a close, but this book felt above and beyond Riley’s already exceptional storytelling. The bond between Phoenix and Wren’s son, Griffin warmed my heart. Griff’s character arc was emotional and sweet; the fact that Griff and Phoenix’s relationship held the same importance as Wren & Phoenix was everything! I love the tight-knit TC family and all the unique, delightful characters that have joined-up in this series. The banter and relationships of the Kent siblings just keep getting funnier and more heartwarming as the series progresses. If you think other Rebel heroes have been overbearing and protective (in the swooniest ways), brace yourself for Phoenix flipping Kent! He’s charismatic, brash, smoldery, and a crunchy cinnamon roll through & through. He’ll melt your heart and give you all the zings.
Mackenzie Cartwright and Connor Crais have outdone themselves with Shattered! They have been a spectacular duo throughout this series, and in my opinion, this is their best yet! I loved Mackenzie’s delivery of “um. what?” lines and enchanting sweetness. She embodied the shy, kind hearted, fierce mama bear Wren beautifully. Connor brought his A++ game to the booth for his narration of Phoenix! Connor’s seductive growl was on fire for his portrayal of the protective, lonely, stalwart cop. I adore these two as individual artists, and they absolutely crush it as a team! Their banter, comedic delivery, and sultry scene performances are fantastic! I loved every second of the Shattered audiobook. I’m excited and nervous to find out what Riley has in store for readers in Echo’s book! .
I loved this book. I felt like it was a little different from other Riley Edwards books I’ve read, especially in this series. There was a lot more focus on relationships and I didn’t really feel the suspense like most of the other books, but that’s what made this book so good. It was about two broken people recognizing the pain they had mirrored back at them. It was about finding that person who will mend all your pieces back together, better than they were before.
Phoenix Kent had a terrible childhood. When he started mentoring Griffen, Wren’s teenaged son, he saw a lot of himself in him. That relationship is what started him on the path to healing. He could finally understand what his brother had been trying to show him, he could love his father, but hate the murderer. I loved that Phoenix had no problem apologizing to Wren or Griffen when his demons forced him to pull back. I loved that his relationship with Griffen was separate from his relationship with Wren, and he made that clear to both of them.
Wren had closed herself off when she moved her son to Georgia but when Phoenix forced himself into her life, she got more than a partner in life, he brought his friends and their wives into her life. Phoenix gave Wren so much and she gave him just as much. She was patient and understanding of him. She didn’t push him for information that she knew would hurt him to talk about. They both tried to fight their feelings, thinking they were unworthy or would mess something up for Griffen, but I loved that Griffen saw their relationship, even when they were trying to hide it, and encouraged it.
I loved seeing past couples and the impact they had on Phoenix and Wren. I loved Wren’s relationship with Phoenix’s brother, Echo. They had a lot in common and I can’t wait to see her inevitable influence when he gets his book next. Phoenix and Wren deserved each other and I loved the family they created with Griffen.
Shattered picks up right after the events in Conquered where Wren and Phoenix meet...with his rescue of her son Griffin from a fire. I'd recommend reading that book first, but you don't really need to for Shattered to be enjoyable. Having met and loved two of the other Kent siblings, I was super excited to get to know Phoenix. This man has demons, even more than I thought he would, knowing the background of his childhood. And while there's a lot of anger there, he is beyond wonderful with both Wren and Griffin. He sees a lot of himself in Griffen. And he just, well, SEES Wren. Wren cannot understand how this big, alpha guy, with the hidden sweetness in his center, could ever be interested in her, the single mom with a track record of choosing men, and the teenage son she's trying to raise alone. That alone makes her someone to love, because she's already proven that whatever needs to be done to protect her son, she's willing to do. Even if it's denying her feelings for Phoenix. Because there are absolutely feelings involved. Theirs is a very slow burn, and that's okay by me. It's frustrating, to be sure, but it just makes that surrendering so much sweeter. And sexier. Secondary characters play such an important, and often hilarious, part of any Riley Edwards book. I have been on this train since the original 707 series, so I'm all about the next generation popping in to help...and interfere. Lunch with the gals, especially the Walker sisters was some great comic relief! And it wrapped up a poignant little side thread. Loved Griffin and his journey through some tough emotions. And we got to see a whole different side to oldest brother, Echo Kent, while he counseled little brother Phoenix. Of, that book is going to be epic! I don't like to play favorites...yeah, right...but Shattered places in the top 5 on my Riley Edwards bookshelf.
I loved Phoenix, Wren and Griff ‘s story. It had the perfect balance of humor, heartwarming love, real life issues, danger, and spice. I was feeling all the feels with this one. Phoenix, Wren and Griff are beautifully portrayed as real, relatable people who have flaws, but are really just trying to do their best as messy beings who have been badly bruised but not broken by their traumatic pasts. They are just wounded souls protecting themselves that help each other heal. Phoenix is a cop. He was abandoned by his mother, his father is a criminal and is in prison for killing a cop. Phoenix and his siblings were raised by his oldest brother. Wren is a single mother to a teenaged Griff. Her ex-husband is also in prison for murder. Before the book starts Phoenix was acting as a “big brother” to Griff and saved him from a fire at the youth center (end of book 6). They need to work to fix the cracks that formed in their relationship when Phoenix put distance between them after the fire before they can build something else. Griff was a such wonderful and integral character in the book rather than a flimsy story prop. The story would not have been as rich or well rounded without the full development and inclusion of his character since a lot of Phoenix and Wren’s conflict and growth revolved around interactions with him. On their way to their HEA, Phoenix and Wren have to learn to trust and take leaps of faith in order to come to terms with their painful pasts so they can embrace a beautiful life for the three of them together. Like the last book in this series, the danger was limited to the last 10% of the book. The minimal danger just made the love story more poignant. I am looking forward to reading the final book in this series. 4.5 stars.
Phoenix definitely took the spot of my favorite hero in the Triple Canopy Series .
These three characters could not be more perfect for each other, each of them broken for their own reasons and struggling to get through each day as normal as possible while dealing with deep pain.
Phoenix was drawn to Wren not only because of her beauty but because he immediately felt that they were kindred spirits and Wren felt the same way. This connection between them was unexplainable and out of their control. Their souls found each other and bonded.
Griff touched my heart the most and I found myself getting emotional at times while listening to this book over him. He was a great kid with a big heart, but he felt abandoned by his father which made the anger take over his personality. He found hope in and some sense of peace with Phoenix enough to be able to take his hurt and anger out on Phoenix because that's what he needed to do since he could not tell his father how angry he was with him. He grew to love Phoenix and realize that he needed him in his life.
Connor Crais and Mackenzie Cartwright gave heartfelt, beautiful performances and were perfect!!
“Griff—” “He has to be okay!” he yelled. “Hey,” Echo called out softly, gently. He plucked Griff out of his chair like he was a toddler and stood my son on his feet in front of him. “He has to be okay,” Griff whispered. “I didn’t get to tell him I love him.” “Bud, he knows you love him.” “I didn’t tell him. He told me he loved me, and I didn’t say it back. He has to be okay. I have to tell him.”
Another hit by Riley Edwards. As if there was any doubt, this book is amazing. With Shattered, we finally get Phoenix’s story. How does one take a broody hero who has sworn off anything resembling love/family and take him to his knees in love? Enter Wren, a single-mom just trying to do what is best for her son and sparks will fly. Phoenix and Wren both recognize themselves in the other. And each one is exactly what the other needs to finally put the past where it belongs.
Watching Phoenix interact with Griffin and recognizing himself in this young boy was heart wrenching. Especially when it seems that everything Phoenix was trying to do to not make things worse was the exact wrong thing to do. I remember reading about their near death experience in the last Triple Canopy novel and hoping it would bond them. It does, until Phoenix screws it up. Watching him put in the work to win back Griff’s trust is so well done.
Wren is many of us. Shy, alone, lonely, and afraid to put ourselves out there. I loved seeing Addy, Hadley, Quinn, and the gang sweep her into the fold. It is so amazing to find your people and I’m so glad Jasper’s girls don’t take no for an answer.
As usual, Riley leaves us wanting more. Not only am I now dying to learn Echo’s story, I also need to know what’s up with Dalton and Vanessa! And did I mention Echo?! I NEED his story! He was the one that most intrigued me when we first met him with Shiloh and Luke. Now that we know the name of his girl I need the story! How did he screw it up? Luckily, Echo is up next year so we hopefully won’t have to wait too long!🤞🏼
Policeman Phoenix has always seen himself as broken and withheld a part of himself from everyone, including his friends and family. His father was abusive to his siblings but always treated Phoenix well. His father went to jail when Phoenix and his other siblings were still children so his oldest brother Echo took care of all of them. Phoenix has had a hard time with the two sides of his father: the loving father who abused his brothers and sister and killed someone with the side of him that taught him things like how to fix a car or something around the house.
When Phoenix meets Wren and her son Griffin through a program at The Hope Center, he senses that they are more alike than any of them know. He sees the hurt in both of them from a bad man. As Phoenix gains Griffin's trust, he's also showing Wren that he's there for her. He has nothing but time and patience for both of them. He learns lessons of his own too, including that it's okay to love the man his father was and still hate the things that he did. The three of them are so good for each other, it's beautiful. With all of his friends and family, Phoenix gives Wren and Griffin a community to support them, too. Which is good because there is a terrifying twist late in this story that had me gasping!
I loved these characters from the very beginning. Hurting, struggling, yes, but still open to love in whatever form it takes. The Women, Inc. gang taking Wren in like she was a sister was so beautiful, I have LOVED the positivity from them in all of these stories, every book should have a girl gang!!
This series has gotten way off track from the original group and it's time to put it to bed. While I'm sure it's easier to add on and make a quick buck, this isn't quality.
This book is angst from one end to the other. If you love that, then you may like it. I really don't need to read a book about a teenager yelling at his mom. One where she doesn't know how to help him. Phoenix isn't a treat, either. He is gloomy the entire book. And I really don't like the martyr type of character Wren is. Phoenix has made it very clear he is into her but she acts like he hasn't. I respect her putting her son first, but that's all she's about. While commendable, it doesn't make for a romance.
And the "action" added felt exactly like what it was. Something thrown in to make it seems like it fits in with the series and for there to be something other than the lackluster relationship between the MCs. The ONLY good thing I will say about this book is at least no one gets kidnapped. Thank goodness.
Ms. Edwards can write some really good books. The gold team and the prior related series were really good. The two since have been good, too, but not as good as those. This series has never been that great and it is now dull. I wish she would ditch this and wrote more books like Brooks from Gold Team. Ones with an actual plot, action, characters capable of more than one emotion, and no woe is me crap.
This is it, the book, the man, the story (well half of it because Echo is the last remaining piece!)
Ooohhhh was this worth waiting for! I loved it, could have kept reading and reading and reading it actually.
Phoenix is everything you needed him to be. Growly, possessive, heart hurt, broken and half in love with Wren before they even start.
Wren is just everything in this book and I loved the way they came together. Her journey from forced introvert to finding her tribe was such a lovely read
Griff….wins the day. What a kid, what a comedian. His wit, charm and openness with Phoenix is heart wrenching.
A fab storyline in many many ways, it feels like 3 stories wrapped up in one, the budding romance between Phoenix and Wren and where that goes, the horses and then the outside characters having their say too.
I can’t wait for Quinn to have her day 😢 and echo makes my heart hurt so when I say I can’t wait for Jackie to set him straight I mean it deep!!
Also, Dalton and Vanessa??!!??!!??!!
Settle down and make sure you have time to devote because the term unputdownable has this books image next to it in the dictionary!
Phoenix Kent is a character that I have been impatiently waiting for his book since he was introduced about 3 books back in this series. And Riley Edwards does NOT disappoint. Phoenix is everything I wanted and more... Wren Cunningham is a woman who is trying to start over, but her teenage son is reeling from the upheaval in their lives. These three meet at a center where youth are mentored and Phoenix is paired with Griffin.
The parallels between these two characters and the way in which all three of the characters heal is so much more than I was expecting. I knew going in, that I was going to love this book because frankly if Riley Edwards writes it I am going to LOVE it. But this book breaks you and you never quite come back together not because the characters aren't pulled back together, but because you are emotionally torn apart in the best kind of way. This surprising slow burn works in every way possible, and I was sad to see the end.
POV: Dual 1st Person PoP: 76% Tropes: Single Mom; Man-in-Uniform; Found Family; Second Generation Series; Instant Attraction; Slow Burn Series: Triple Canopy book 7 Type of Series: Series of Standalones
Ever since we met Shiloh Kent in Imperfect, we got a glimpse into her family and the brothers who have been there for each other all their lives; we've been waiting on stories for Phoenix, Echo, and River. The brother, River, we got in the Takeback series--a wonderfully fulfilling Rileyesque read. Now in Shattered, we have Phoenix's story, which was done perfectly. In the Rileyverse, we have been loving since the 707 series, we continue to be drawn into this family of men and women who continue to make you want to really spend some time with them. Going into detail would spoil the fun of watching Wren and Phoenix tear down the walls they have built to keep others out but decide to remove each other. We get to fall for Wren's son, the teenager Griffin who honestly said some things that made me tear up. There was some excitement, but the supreme satisfaction of seeing another family created in this community was the best. Now, it is time for Echo.
You can read Shattered as a standalone, but for the best enjoyment, read the entire Triple Canopy series Riley Edwards continues to be one of the best in this genre.
After reading Imperfect (TC #3) I have been anxiously awaiting all of the Kent siblings stories. They have been some of the best supporting characters that Riley Edwards has written and I guess that I had put them up on a pedestal for their stories. Well Shattered is Phoenix Kent's story along with Wren Cunningham (from Conquered TC #6). Their story just didn't have much to it compared to the other TC books. It is well over 100 pages shorter than previous books and in my opinion didn't have much substance which I am incredibly sad about. Their story could have been so much better with a longer, deeper plotline. Instead it was very surface, lots of inner reflection and very little action (in and out of the bedroom). I think that if you have been reading this series that you will still want to read Shattered but if this is the first book that you have read please don't judge the rest of the series by this one because they are a lot better in my opinion. It was told from dual POV and is was very slow burn (nothing until 70%) and lots of angsty reflection.
It’s Here, Finally Phoenix! I thought it would be hard to listen to the same narrators’ book after book especially in a series when you listen to them back to back but Connor Crais and Mackenzie Cartwright do such a great job with the material they are given that it isn’t hard at all. I love that narrators can make or break how characters are portrayed and these two do an incredible job! With Shattered, we finally get Phoenix’s story. I don’t know how Riley does it but she can bring an alpha hero who thinks love is nonexistent down to his knees!! Phoenix and his siblings had a terrible childhood and no one to show any of them what love looks or feels like, so it can’t be real. Wren is a single mom raising her son the best that she can. Her son, Griffin began being mentored by Phoenix and Wren found herself seeing a lot of her in him. Wren finds it hard to willingly put herself out there and allow herself to be happy but is it possible? We knew Phoenix would have an incredible journey and Wren and Griffin were perfect for him! Riley did an incredible job!
Riley Edwards delivers another book I couldn’t put down. Shattered, Book 7 in the Triple Canopy series brings us the story of Wren and Phoenix.
Wren and Phoenix had events in their past that caused so much pain. I could feel their hurt as they both struggled to try and move on from this. Their paths crossed ,Wren and Phoenix never looked back. The devotion and understanding to healing each other was heartfelt.
This book is Griffin’s story just as much as Wren and Phoenix’s. I adored the relationship between Phoenix and Griffin, Wren’s son. Phoenix could see his younger self in Griff and I feel this was just what they both needed to help their healing.
Mackenzie Cartwright, Wren and Connor Crais, Phoenix gave a flawless performance. From first listening of Shattered, Mackenzie Cartwright and Connor Crais’ performances had me immersed in the world of Wren, Phoenix and Griff. Perfect casting.
Thank you Riley for a beautifully written story. All the feels in this one. Loved it.
Sigh. Phoenix Kent, be still my heart. I knew the Kent brothers were going to wreck me in the best way, and I was completely correct if the first brother to fall is any indication. Phoenix's hidden heart of gold is just what Wren and her son desperately need. These three souls have so much in common and need each other. Heart wrenching in true Riley fashion as she rips my heart out, smashes it around a little, then puts it back together better than before as she does the same with her characters. In. Love. With. Phoenix. And Echo...I'm also totally in love with big brother after his role in this book (hey don't judge me, blame Ms. Edwards for creating such amazing fictional men!) and am thoroughly ready to have my heart beautifully wrecked in his book. Oh yea...you also get some action, danger, and pulse-pounding suspense with the emotional ride. And Connor Crais and MacKenzie Cartwright do an amazing job with the narration. I truly believe their abilities bring out the emotions so much more.
An absolutely fantastic raw emotionally charged story
Riley Edwards has done it again. Wren and Phoenix story is so gut wrenching. You feel their emotions all the way down to your toes! Wren and Griff are floundering, mother and son trying to move forward, both hurt from their past. Phoenix has not been able to move forward either due to his past. Riley Edwards has put Phoenix and Wren and Griff on the road to healing but they must get through their past. Phoenix is the best to help both as he understands what they went through. All have been battered and wondering if they can make it out together, whole and finally be one family. Riley Edwards is always able to get you to feel her Characters emotions. She is incredible. I absolutely cannot wait for Phoenix's brothers Echo's story! I highly recommend Shattered. If you have not read Phoenix's siblings: Shiloh (triple canopy series) and River's (takeback series), I also highly recommend reading their stories too!
Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Steam: 🔥🔥🔥 Darkness: 🤍🤍🤍🤍🖤 Sub genre: law enforcement/ protector/ found family M/F POV: Dual 1st Person Stand Alone? This story can be read as a stand alone but due to character crossover and possible spoilers the series is best read in order.
Riley Edwards does it again with yet another book that sparks emotions, pulls you in and leaves you sitting on the edge of your seat, unable to put it down.
This book left me reeling and left me a big pile of mush by the end. The backstory meaning of this book left me feeling hopeful and reflective and the story was non-stop engaging. I couldn’t put it down even when I knew I needed to be doing other things.
This is another book by Riley I will say don’t walk, run to get it. There is no part of this book that will make you regret buying it and devouring it. You’ll likely read it again and again!
If you are need of an amazing book that reiterates the importance of family, commitment, trust, friendship, and love. Wren loves her son Griffin with all her heart. He is everything to her and she will do anything to keep him safe and loved. Phoenix has come into their life at the perfect time and him saving Grif from the fire has made him a hero in both their eyes. Phoenix loves his family and his job as a cop is vital to his life. He has these new feelings brewing inside him for Wren & Griffin and he’s not sure what to do with them. He sees a lot of himself in Grif which scares him to no avail. He has to get himself righted if he’s ever going to be the man they both deserve. This book is filled with so much heart you will not be able to stop yourself from laughing, crying, and smiling at the way these characters love and need each other. As always, Riley Edward delivers another phenomenal book in this amazing series. Happy Reading!!
Phoenix was a hero to Griff. When Griff was saved from a fire, Phoenix gave him time to heal but that healing didn't happen as Phoenix would have liked. His past was not only haunting to him but it was also something that Griff could relate to. Phoenix can't see himself more than who he is and is struggling with the concept of one day being more.
Wren is a savior of sorts. She did what any mother would and got her son out of a situation that was hurting not only her but him as well. Griff has a hard time trusting from things that happened in is past but Wren wanted to have in around people who adored him as much as she did and Phoenix was the perfect person for the "job".
Phoenix and Wren's story was not only perfect but each of them finding who they were while helping each other was genuine. The love that poured from each of them only made their story better. While the ups and downs may have broken most, it only made this trio stronger.
This is Phoenix and Wren’s story. They’ve both had traumatic family experiences that shaped their lives. Determined to make a better life for themselves, they also determine to wall off their hearts. Immediately drawn to each other (although both trying to fight it), they have no idea how much they have in common. Phoenix’s protective instincts go into overdrive in regards to Wren and her son Griff. Can all three of them overcome their past trauma and let love win? The road to happily ever after is a rocky one but well worth the effort when finally having a real family is their reward.
Connor Crais and Mackenzie Cartwright turn in fantastic performances, as usual, with the narration of this explosive romance. Both portray their characters with so much emotion, you can’t help but be pulled into this story right from the beginning. If you’re a fan of romantic thrillers and second-chance romance, this is a must listen!
