Dark Obsession

Rate this book
A soul bleeds when it's put through pain.
Like sap from a broken tree limb...
Tears and suffering form, charring to Ash hidden deep within.
It spreads out inside with nowhere to go.

My past is a nightmare I can't run from.
It follows me, touches me inside the darkness of the long cold lonely nights when the neon sign turns off and the music dies.
I'm left with nothing but chaotic thoughts bound tight around my ribcage, taking the air inside my lungs.
Deadly obsessions become a violent game of cat and mouse hide and seek.

A story so familiar but yet so unique.
His eyes hurt me.
His touch can freeze my soul.
I can't seem to escape.

Until him…
The owner of the club I work at.
The Mafia Boss of the underworld.
A man that's so dangerous chaos follows.
I fall unexpectedly into his arms on that dark, gray, rainy night.
He takes me as his wife.
Now it's my new husband who is the villain in my new life…
with love being the deadliest lie of all.

Trigger Warning:

This was a short quick read and my first time reading this author. The idea of this book was great but the execution was not good. I really wanted to like this book but it was hard. There were so many confusing things in it that it was hard for me to understand. Brenyn watched her best friend die she comes from a rich family she is a high powered lawyer so when Bella dies she ends up in a strip club stripping and taking pills. When she meets Killian the club owner who is a Irish Mob Boss she knows he is a monster and she is instantly attracted to him. I also thought that it was odd both of these characters had dead loved once talking to them. Then there is her family who she has been stealing from and owns majority of her fathers company and if I had her mother I would have left his me years ago. Then the book ends on a cliffhanger and the next book doesn't come out until next May. I felt that with the book being so short it could have continued. This book didn't turn out the way I wanted it to be.

I'm not sure how I feel about this one, actually. I spent most of the book confused as hell, if I'm being honest.

Brenyn is supposed to be this rich, powerful lawyer, but if you ask me, she's pretty stupid. Look, I get she's grieving the loss of her best friend. But seriously, she immediately starts snorting coke, heavily drinking, taking unknown drugs, and becomes this super popular stripper by night while still maintaining she's a lawyer??? Really?

Then you have Killian, who is an Irish mafia guy. He's clearly attracted to her, which is fine. But then one moment he says she's his wife, her family leaves her everything, and now everyone in the world wants to kill them??

This book just didn't make sense most of the time. Her reactions to losing her best friend just didn't make sense. And then at the end, we find out the next book comes out next year, May 2023??? I will have forgotten everything in this book by then. This book ends on a massive cliff-hanger and really is rather short. The author very much could've continued this story all in one.

Broken after the loss of her best friend, Brenyn stumbles into a club to lose herself, rebel against the person her parents raised her to be, and finally be free. She meets Killian, her new boss, Mafia boss, and the man who will claim her as his wife to further his empire.

This was a short, dark, and steamy read filled with grief, heartache, and pain and I was HERE for it 😈 Watching Brenyn break the chains her parents placed on her as well as finally getting away from her family was amazing. Watching Killian help her do it? Epic. Both characters battle their own demons and find ways to overcome them, but will it be enough? The cliffy was horrible honestly and the last line absolutely broke me 😭 Also have never highlighted so many amazing quotes in any book so it was hard to choose the most gut wrenching one

Although the beginning was promising, I couldn't finish the story, it could have been much more. It was very chaotic, and very hard to get into. It was like written under a drug influence or through brain fog. Everthing was constantly changing like the eye/ hair colours, ages and heights of the MCs, personalities, relationships (were they best friends or a bs couple), abilities (lawyer or a qualified air dancer), characters (a silent wallflower or a courtesan), etc. Headache and waste of time, sorry.

Holy moly, right from the beginning I was emotionally wrecked but don’t let that sway you because this was a fantastic story, it’s not centred around one thing, it encompassed so much more. This author has the capacity to reach into your soul and give it a little squeeze. Some would say that might not be such a good thing, while others would say this was absolute brilliance and I believe they might be right.

Brenyn was one loyal and supportive friend, her life was extremely challenging as a high-powered lawyer but outside of her job she preferred to sit back and let others take centre stage. Her best friend, Bellz, was the extrovert and together they balanced each other. This relationship was very important to the story as it gave many insights into Brenyn’s character. She certainly changed after her life literally fell apart but it also brought her into the world of Killian, the head of the Irish mafia in Chicago.

Brenyn and Killian were instantly attracted to each other, for her the physical pull was extremely strong but for him, well let’s just say he’d noticed her before she met him. Their passion was off the charts red hot with nothing out of bounds. I loved these two together.

Dark Obsession was the perfect title for this book, these obsessions, whether dark or not, were fierce and intense but believe me—they were nearly all dark! At times, with everything going on I admit it was a tad chaotic but that just mirrored the life of these characters. I look forward to the second book in this duet.

Wow and Ok.

First I found myself actually saying wow several times. I find it is extremely unusual for an author to be able to pull the reader in with emotions that feel so raw and real. The funeral scene one of the best I have ever read. Combining that emotional rollercoaster with the violence, sex, and self destructive behavior spurred on by grief pulled on the heartstrings so much I couldn't stop reading. However, as I was saying wow I was also saying this book needed 15 or 20 more chapters. I needed more character development, to be pulled into their world. I wanted to be more invested in their story, the holes filled in. I say that because the description didn't say that this was the first book of a series, ending with a cliffhanger, the second book not coming out for a year. I hope for the author's benefit that the second book will help fill out the characters and fill in the holes, because the writing is good. I personally am glad I read this, but am also very upset by being blindsided with having to wait a year for another story that may not even be the end. I rarely start reading a series until it is done. I am sure if I could have kept on reading this series I would be able to rate it higher. So if you are like me and don't like reading something that you can't get resolution on I would say wait to start this one. Will I continue with this series in a year, doubtful because I feel so misled and a year is a long time to wait.

Sigh* I was hoping for a bit more from this story. First, I’m a sucker for book playlists. Second, I will never turn down dual POVs. The overall plot and timeline was very confusing to me. Has it been days or months? The beginning of one paragraph the FMC was dancing and one sentence later she’s outside taking a break? What happened in between. I need a little filler to transition from one scene to another. The story started good but had me more confused as I went on. A lot of the inner monologues were redundant. The FMC’s interactions with her dead bf was super weird and disturbing the more I read. I did not believe the connection between Brenyn and Killian, but my confusion with the timeline could play into that. It does end on a crazy cliffhanger but I can’t say if I will be reading the next installment.

WOW! WHAT AN EMOTIONALLY PACKED 5-⭐ DEEP, DARK ROMANCE THAT LEFT ME SPEECHLESS, BREATHING HEAVY AND BEGGING FOR MORE! I LOVED IT! READ THIS BOOK!

Holy Dark Romance! What a read! As an avid reader and reviewer, stories come and go and some leave an impression on me. But some, not only leave an impression but also breathe light into my heart as well as stamp their memory like a tattoo in my mind. That is exactly what Dark Obsession did to me.

This book is most definitely not your average cookie cutter romance. It's emotionally very dark and anyone who triggers easily, be forewarned and proceed with caution.

Best friends Bellz and Brenyn share a soul deep connection dating back to when they were very young. A bond so tight, you could lose your breath. Best friends who's loving relationship was on a higher, deeper level. A whole other plain altogether. They wanted to spend their lives together but the powers that be had other plans. When things took a turn for the worst I hugged them both in my mind and heart.

Then it was Brenyn who was left to deal with the powerfully emotional aftermath that wreaked havoc inside her, nearly destroying her. She struggled throughout the story with regards to Bellz, pulling at my heartstrings. I'm talking plunging into a dark abyss of emotional agony, as well as harrowing, heartbreaking and gut wrenching struggles.

But a much needed escape, a mistaken identity and a dance changed the trajectory of her life. In some ways good, some concerning, and some bad in the best dang way. By bad I'm talking bad in the form of a 6 '7'' devil. A monster mobster named Killian Kinahan who had the most handsome face, smoldering gray eyes and a killer instinct that leaves most men shaking in their shoes. Killian is Chicago's Kingpin mobster who owns the city. You'd be doing yourself a serious disservice if you crossed him. That includes touching what he believes he owns. Including one Brenyn Walsh and her alter ego.

The thoughtful, tear-inducing ways he showed her it's ok to grieve made this reader weak in the knees and left me in a giant puddle of goo from his incredible SWOONYLICIOUS actions and words. I don't want to give too much away so I'll leave you with this. Killian ranks up there as one of the best romance anti heroes that I've ever come across. What he does for her during her darkest times even though he suffers himself with his secrets. His backstory is haunting and heartbreaking as well. Brenyn quiets the beast raging inside of him and Killian calms the chaos burning inside Brynn. They balance each other, calm each other in ways only they could. Mind, body and soul.

A funeral and a wake nearly did me in. I'm honored to say that it was some of the best writing I've read and most definitely one of the saddest too. I shed more tears than I could count, if you could actually count them. It was a full on blubbering ugly cry that seemed to never end. I loved that.

Good gawd man. As God is my witness I have never read such raw compassion. Everyone who experienced loss could relate to everything that transpired. I know I did. The author poured her heart and soul into these scenes, into the entire story actually. It was writing perfection in the rawest and truest form.

There was much needed humor weaved throughout this unbelievably emotional storyline. I welcomed it with open arms. Add in a swoonylicious monster mobster who stole my bad boy dark romance loving heart. What he did for Brenyn, shared with her and the way he protected her was beyond anything I could have imagined. But it was a pair of cherry red shoes that made me fall madly, truly, and deeply in love with this devil, this monster with eyes full of sin. The way he shed tears for her. And lastly, the way they both confronted all their demons together but in different ways left me awestruck.

It was always a welcomed surprise when Bellz showed up to support Brenyn in the most unique ways. I looked forward to every scene of them together. Bellz had me laughing out loud with her comedic reasonings and hilarious antics. Legs across a man was so funny I could not stop laughing. Those were some of my favorite things in this story.

I found myself clawing and crawling my way into hell with Brenyn and the devil himself because I just couldn't get enough. Sometimes even the devil goes rogue. The monster found his sweet spot, his soft spot, in his "Little Lamb".

Finally, I was left dangling over the pits of hell at the end in one very unexpected and intense cliffhanger. As it turns out, a little taste of the devil, the monster, is all you need to be caught in the web of danger with no way out. There are worse things than the devil. The wolf in sheep's clothing, the one who smiles at you while licking their chops are the ones to be worried about. What do I mean by that? Sorry, but my lips are sealed. Now I have to wait along with you for book 2 in this duet, Dark Destruction and I wait on a bed of pin and needles.

Dark Obsession is an emotionally packed dark romance that will make you cry, leave you breathing a bit heavy and needing a cigarette and will also tear your heart apart. But don't you worry, Killian is not far away and he will make everything better. Or will he?

The author's raw, gritty and always powerful written words and beautiful writing style never cease to amaze me. Author Aleisha Maree is a word whisperer of a different kind and everyone should read her books. Everyone should read this 5-star romance, Dark Obsession.

At first I wasn't sure about this book. then it was intriguing. This book has so much to it. Both have demons that they are trying to overcome. she lost her best friend and the emotions she goes through, lets just say they could make you cry. He is a mafia boss that also lost his sister. The emotions these two go through will have you weeping. This author can really pull of this story together. I loved every minute of it. Job well done!!
Dark but so much more. And the sex scenes are a little dark too.

Brenyn on a downward sprail after the loss of her best friend. After it happens she takes off, she finds her self at a club where they think she is the new dancer. From there she meets Killian and this story takes you on a dark, twisted, highly emotional, heartbreaking, ugly cry read that you won't be able to put down. This author knows how to weave a story that gives you everything and won't leave any part of you untouched. I was enthralled with this I couldn't put down. I so can't wait for the next to see what happens.

This book contains one of my favorite songs by Foy Vance "Feel for Me" I cried when Brenyn sung it to Bellz while cradling her in the hospital bed. I said this chick is a survivor and the story will be worth reading. I did not expect Bellz to be revived everyday in Brenyn's life, too weird for me. Again, it started off great...then went west of California and gave me a migraine. I was expecting sexy, lust not ghost. I started to not care about any of the characters and author should run this book through Grammarly.

This would be a great history whiteout the male main character totally useless...I don't understand the point of their relation.
The author could have delayed his introduction and let the female character rock bottom
