A treasure hunt gone wrong. A grizzly shifter who will stop at nothing to claim his mate
Grizzly shifter Desi Mitchell is ready to settle down and start a family. As a former security expert for the United States military, he's starting his own security firm just in time as frenzied treasure hunters from the Famous Race take over the town and bring a rash of weird happenings. He’s watching out for the residents, including sexy new bookstore owner, Kora Meredith. His bear wants to claim her as his fated mate. She wants him to secure her home tighter than Fort Knox and get lost.
Kora is converting the hundred-year-old brothel into a bookstore to help forget her past. Staying busy helps soothe her chaotic mind—a mind that won’t let her have a relationship, or grand adventures, or go to the store somedays. She tries to deter Desi when he insists on helping her. She resists when he swears they are fated mates.
But the clues lead them to a treasure neither of them was expecting. And danger threatens to push Kora over the edge. Can they find what they’re looking for before it’s too late?
BEAR IN A BOOKSTORE is the third book in the Estes Park Shifters series. Each book can be read as a stand-alone. Enjoy the ride with one sexy ex-Marine grizzly shifter, a deer with a strange fetish, a secret room, some cool treasure, and a woman outrunning her past... and falling right into the lap of the man she can't resist!
Bear in a Bookstore is book three in the Estes Park Shifters series by Liz Paffel. I have been loving this series since the first book and was looking forward to Desi’s book. The military brother who finally came home.
Master Sergeant Desi Mitchell, U.S. Marine Corp, has come home. After years of being separated from his family he is ready to finally settle down. After watching his brothers fall in love and seeing Dax’s twins born, he wants that for himself, a wife and children. But on his own terms. His dad is pressuring him to be a part of the family construction business but he wants to start his own security company.
Kora Meredith is an author very well known for her thrillers. Her first book was made in to a successful movie. Kora thought she was living the life in Los Angeles when she was randomly targeted in a home invasion. Ever since then, she has suffered from PTSD and suffers from panic attacks. Kora has moved to Estes Park for what she plans as a two year change of scenery. She plans to open a children’s book store in an old historic building with much past history.
The first time Desi and Kora met, they both felt it, a strange electrical connection. Then Kora started experiencing the dreams of Desi, things she couldn’t know since they had never met. Desi is sure that Kora is his mate. But the last thing that Kora wants is any type of relationship. She has nothing to offer. Some days she can’t even force herself to leave the house. So she is dedicated to keeping Desi in the friend zone.
At the same time, a national treasure hunt has come to town, causing all sorts of havoc. Some of it somehow connected to Kora’s new book store. No matter the nature of their relationship, Desi will keep Kora safe. It’s what he has to do. He can only hope that in time, she’ll accept him in the way he has already accepted her.
I really enjoyed this one. I believe it’s a bit more of a slow burn than the other two. For some reason, I couldn’t fall in love with Kora as much as I wanted to. I felt so bad for Desi with the pressure from his dad and also Kora’s rejection. This was fast paced and fun and I did love getting to know these two. I’m so excited for the next book in the series, Wild in The Woods. It will be Fox Mitchell’s book who is Desi’s friend. I can’t wait to meet Lulu, the woman who he won’t be able to resist!
I finished this a few days ago and I’ve been DYING for book 4 (which is fun, not in a bad way). This fictional version of Estes Park has become one of my most favorite small towns ever. (Sorta want to live there now.)
Book 3 in the series features a strong female lead who is trying to get over her trauma, on her own terms and sort of reclaim her power, overcome fear, etc. She’s been broken pretty well and isn’t out of the woods just yet … it’s maybe a bit more real than its predecessors and it’s fun because it tackles real issues.
It also makes some valid points that anyone with their own struggles might want to bear in mind … “Time doesn’t care about our trauma, or our grief, or our fears. It goes on with or without us and knowing how quickly it can be taken away …”
There’s lots of other fun in this one … haunted old shops, comedy, tons of witty banter, and oppressive parent, some creeps, mystery, adventure, a treasure hunt, history … it manages to pack a lot in a way that works really well.
I’ve always wanted to be a treasure hunter and this book was a fantastic glimpse into the life. I love how the author embraced mental health and really enhanced the characters by giving them real world problems and helping them to cope with them. This story had so many amazing layers and each page was an adventure I didn’t want to end. I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book!
Desi & Kora: he just got back from being in the army and now he wants to set up his new company, but his family wants him to go into their business. She's A famous author and had a accident happened to her a year or so ago, so now she trying to get back to her old self. The characters will take you through twists and turns throughout their journey while finding their fated mate.
Desi and Koras story was fun, heated and touched on a little taboo subject most wouldn't write about. Mental disorder is real no mattet how it comes and comes in many different ways. Kora is a wonderful character who is a best selling author who also was assulted and dealt with a mental disorder because of it. Desi a newly retired service man is trying to fight his own demons from war and live his life. When Desi walks into the book store to deliver papers the sparks fly right off the pages. This story is about trying to live life with baggage that drowns you but when you choose to fight for life things can change in so many ways. I throughly enjoyed this read and will read this series over and over. I highly recommend this book and series to everyone because sometimes throws us too much and too many just drown in it and this shows there's hope in the end. I can't wait to read Fox story and hopefully more about all the characters including Allies dad (hint hint) Loved the series.
I liked this story. The treasure hunt felt more like an afterthought. The focus was on Lora and her PTSD after dealing with a traumatic experience. Desi was so patient and perfect.
Desi and Kora are trying to build new lives in Estes Park. As they navigate the trials and tribulations of small town living, demanding relatives and treasure seeking fanatics, they face laugh-out-loud shenanigans, soul-searching discoveries and dangerous situations. A delightful story that took me on a journey and made me laugh, feel sad for the characters' pain and experience some very intense moments. Enjoy!
I have really been enjoying this series. As you guys know I love me a good bear shifter story and this series has been giving me that. With each book I've been enjoying it more and more. For the third book we have Desi and Kora. Their story is a real fun one for the most part with a mystery thrown in.
Desi is home after being gone for so long in the military. He's happy to be around his family and happy for his brothers that have found their mates. He's also thrill with his brother's twins. What's he isn't happy with is that his dad wants him to go into the family business. He's just not feeling it. He wants to do his own thing that thing being security. And that's how he's found Kora. She needs him to secure her bookstore.
Kora has gone through a very hard time and needs to be away from her old life and decompress. She thought she found that place, but things aren't totally going well. She needs Desi's help and right away he knows she's his mate, so he'd do anything for her.
You'll enjoy their story even when it wasn't going well. It took Kora a bit to realize/admit what she's feelings. She has closed herself off from all emotional and at times comes off slightly cold. Her past really weighs heavily on her shoulders. It might take them a bit to find their HEA but, in the end, they do, and I was so glad.
This shifter romance was an enjoyable read. It's the story of Kora, who has moved to Estes Park, CO from LA to hide out from something traumatic in her past and to open a children's bookstore, and Desi, who has recently retired from military service and moved home to be near his family in Estes Park where he grew up while he gets his new security business off the ground. Desi meets Kora while helping out his brother (who is a busy dad of newborn twins) and in doing so realizes that his bear is not only really drawn to Kora, but that she's in fact his fated mate. There's also an integral part of the storyline involving treasure hunters coming to town for a YouTube based program and through that, Kora's property is suspected of housing treasure so many people are interested in checking out her bookstore. Kora ends up getting in some trouble with people involved in this and unfortunately this also triggers some of her trauma-related issues. She and Desi need to overcome this to see if they can make this relationship work. This story was cute, had some nice heat and chemistry between the main characters, and the side characters (who were from earlier books, that I haven't read yet) were enjoyable. The audiobook, which I listened to, was well produced and the narrator did a nice job.
emotional hopeful mysterious fast-paced Plot- or character-driven? A mix Strong character development? Yes Loveable characters? Yes Diverse cast of characters? No Flaws of characters a main focus? Yes 3.25
Audiobook (audible) - adorable lighthearted shifter mystery romance novel. New to town book shop owner is continually thrust into questionable situations due to her shops location in a book treasure hunt. Her past issues align with his and they slowly work through them while Desi proves to Cora that he’ll always be there when she needs him.
This is another great book in this series! When Desi steps into Kora's new bookstore, they have an immediate attraction. Kora has had some serious hardships and doesn't trust herself yet but she can't deny she feels something for Desi. Desi's bear has made it clear Kora is their mate but Desi knows he must go slow. They work together on finding a treasure and that brings them both danger, especially Kora. They have a lovely and happy ending. Definitely worth reading!!
I have loved each book in Estes Park. My sister lives there. Kora is me. In so many ways it was freeing to see another person who has mental health/psychosis (love that one not) brings happiness knowing I’m not alone. On the other hand to have a man feel for her with understanding and not allow her to push him away makes me envious in a good way.
Has the bones of a good story but everything was very rushed. I would have liked more time actually learning about the characters and relationships and conflict with the hero and his dad and where the heck the treasure came from and how it ended up where it did. The book could have really used a good editing and a second draft.

This book deals with the FMC’s mental health / PTSD struggles after a traumatic event. As someone who struggles herself, I felt the author did an amazing job creating an authentic story that also encourages and supports. At the end she offers a wonderful letter to the reader. I enjoyed the story of Kora and Desi.
Honestly, I like your books, they are funny, down-to-earth, and sweet 😋 The first book of this series was my own but 10 times worse. He did use me and abuse me but thank God, I'm in victory now and not like I was back then, and thank God! No meds, or therapy was needed!!! 🙂🙂🙂
Great story! A secret room, mystery of treasure, and lots of action is in this story. Really held my interest, differently going to more of this series. Great read!
there's nothing wrong with this, it just doesn't have the flair of the first book. It is pretty unique to have a heroine with panic disorder, and I appreciate the demystification of taking medicine for mental health.
If Kora had any doubt that Desi was her mate, then that would have been proven when he felt her pain and realized she was in trouble. I think I kind of resented how pushy Desi's dad is and how he liked to force his will on his sons.
I can’t believe those idiots went after her because they didn’t get things handed to them that they wanted boo hoo so they traumatized her worse . Thankfully, he didn’t give up and kept being there for her.
Interesting story with a bookstore owner who is hiding from her past trauma, and a cute bear. A treasure hunt, and a secret room are mentioned and there is a kidnapping and a rescue. I like this author and I will read more of her stories
I couldn't get enough of this story and the heroine is so relatable for me as I have some of the same mental health problems. This is a book you will not want to put down and while it is a fairly quick read, it is in no way lacking (except maybe a little more spice but it's sweet the way it is)
Just like the first two, this story was exciting and adventurous. I just loved the characters and the interaction between them. The story is fulfilling and loveable. Liz Paffel is just a wonderful author! Can't wait for more!
It was an interesting story with good characters. I would have liked more of an ending. I felt like it wasn't over, and I expected and wanted to know more.
