Eleven Wonderfully Dark Tales of Fantasy in one Anthology!

Fae can be beautiful. Fae can be cruel. Fae can be warm as summer days and cold as winter nights. They can be dark and they can be colorful. They can steal your voice, your will, your heart and your soul.

A knight of the realm embarks on a mission to save her kingdom and the woman she loves, but what hope can faeries really offer? The Warden returns home to take their place as guardian between realms, but have they come back too late? When ambassadors from the human realm become embroiled in the games of the Summer Court, how will they survive the diabolical political intrigue of the fae?

Featuring a diverse range of LGBTQ+ characters, these are the tales of the darker fae, and the ones unfortunate enough to cross them.

These are tales… Of Fire and Stars

Delightful collection of dark fantasy shorts. All showcasing different aspects of the LGBTQ+ community paired with a high fantasy setting. Not all tales are HEA, but all were well paced and well written. As with other @EerieRiver anthologies, I enjoy reading the author bios at the end of the book.

From the first story, I was hooked.

I love the idea of an anthology filled with unique and interesting worlds; and this one delivers that in spades. If you are looking for a collection of romantic stories and flighty fairies, this is not the anthology for you. Although there are characters that are romantic towards each other, the soul of this collection is more dark fantasy with a hit (sometimes a slap) of love/sex/romance in it.

Sometimes grim, sometimes funny, this collection has something for everyone. You do not want to miss out on this.

Humans in the world of faerie

The world of faerie is supposedly exotic, entrancing and exciting. It is but tread cautiously. Is it wise to accept a boon from the dark fae? What happens if a fairy falls in love with you obsessively or if perchance you accidentally kill a fairy who has shape shifted into a roach? Each of these eleven stories take you to a realm which is fantastical but dangerous where darkness abounds and humans can become unwitting tools of evil fae. Falling for the fae can oftentimes end in disaster though in a few cases it has been rewarding. I was totally captivated by each story. Highly recommended.

If you are a lover of fae novels like myself (yes I read other books besides vampires ones - sometimes] especially those with a dark vibe then reading these short stories should be added to your list. Each one was unique while making me think fondly of other stories of fae like Midsummer Nights Dream, Tithe by Holly Black, the fae from the True Blood TV series, and even a splash of Alice in Wonderland. Plus the diverse LGBTQ+ characters and even one with hearing aids made my heart happy for these individuals. There is a story for everyone to enjoy since the authors come from all over the world and was pleasantly surprised to see one was from Canada. So go get lost in the woods with this collection of short stories for a while.

A dark fantasy LGBTQ+ anthology

I really loved this book, it is a fantastic collection of fantasy short stories that showcase aspects of the LGBTQ+ community. With this being one of the first fantasy books I've read I couldn't have started with a better one, each story has a great pace and is brilliantly written.

Love so many of these short stories! It was my first time reading a story with they/them pronouns it is something that might take some time to get used to, but I enjoyed it. Wild, Under the Rainbow, and Sweet Enchantment, were my favorites!!
