Her husband is with another woman—but it’s not who she thinks it is, and the results may be more devastating than an affair . . .
Lucy’s husband has been missing for days while she tries to pretend to those around her, including her distracted teenagers, that everything is normal. In desperation she uses a phone app to track him—and discovers he’s with another woman.
As her life falls apart, Lucy realises nothing is as it seems. There is another woman in her husband’s life, but it’s someone she has known—and hated—for twenty years.
As the story unfolds, including in the national press, the family must pull together before lives are destroyed . . .
“Sarah Edghill knows how to pinpoint what goes on in families.” —Rachel Joyce, author of The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry on A Thousand Tiny Disappointments
The first few chapters had me. But after the reveal, it was downhill from there till the end. I still managed to finish the novel but I was left so unsatisfied at the end.
The story isn’t character driven so it didn’t matter to me whether the characters were fully developed or not. However, there was enough substance to get a feel for each character’s personality and form an image for each.
Plotwise, I felt that there could have been more suspense, drama, and perhaps more plot twists. I won’t go into detail since that would reveal more than intended. But I will say that the current storyline isn’t as suspenseful as I expected.
Overall, a satisfactory okay read. Two stars.
I received a digital ARC from author, Sarah Edghill. The review herein is completely my own and contains my honest thoughts and opinions.
I am a twin. But there is no way My twin brother would do what Tom did for his twin sister. And no way he would leave his wife hurting her like that. Yes he was trying to be there for his sister and it was a dire situation but wow it was just so weird. I didn't like Stella and the ending was just a little strange. I don't want t to give spoilers but just know nothing is as it seems. This is not a romance. At all. And it's not really a mystery either, though that is part of it. There is just so much happening all at once and unfortunately it was just not for me. Good writing just didn't care for the story. And the ending just was like bam and I was a little disappointed about it but really the whole book was about disappointment. In one way or another.
This book really fell flat for me. I was expecting a mystery, thriller, suspense and instead was presented with a family-orientated drama that was predictable and underwhelming.
In my opinion, the book started really slowly and a lot of time is spent describing Lucy’s agony as she cannot fathom why her husband has suddenly left her, with little explanation as to why and where he has gone. Despite plaguing him with messages and phone calls, Lucy is at a loss as to why this has happened. It was only until about a quarter of the way through did the plot feel like it was moving forwards, and not in a direction that I wanted.
Meeting all of Lucy’s family, I could not abide any of them. All of portrayed as incredibly selfish and self-centred. In fact, I think Lucy and her husband take some pride in how awful their three children are and I particularly could not stand the demanding ways of Abi, even if she is just about to have a baby. Furthermore, Tom’s twin sister, Stella, also was a pain in the neck and I despised how Lucy constantly whines about the closeness her husband and sister-in-law have. Throughout the novel, Lucy is repeatedly complaining that she feels Tom prioritises his sister over his wife and that she does not feel her marriage will last. Well, in that case, pack your bags, love, and get out of there!
Unfortunately, I did not sympathise with any of the characters and thought the plot direction was too obvious. There may have been an intended surprise revelation at the end… but I had predicted it way before then. In addition, the ending was far too open and I think the writer could have written just a couple more paragraphs to conclude the story in a more satisfactory way.
Overall, I thought this was a bland, obvious read that did not deliver what I expected. It didn’t help that I disliked so many of the characters although the writer definitely piqued my interest. I was keen to know what was going on with the family, but I don’t think this was executed in the most gripping of ways.
With thanks to Bloodhound books for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed the start of the book and absolutely devoured it but then just wanted to shake all the characters to tell them to get real - this even included the boss. I really dont want to say much more as I dont want to spoil the last half.
I was given an advance copy by bloodhound books but the review is entirely my own.
There seem to be some not so good reviews on this book, but I actually really enjoyed it! I was drawn in right from the start, and i found it quite fast paced and there were a few twists and turns too - what's not to like! Easy to read, and I actually seemed to fly through it which is always a good sign.
His Other Woman is a suspenseful read that follows Lucy whose life is turned upside down when her husband goes missing and she suspects him of having an affair. However, the real reason for his abrupt disappearance is even more shocking.
The story revolves around family drama and a toxic relationship between Lucy and an old friend that was quite interesting. I did quite enjoy the suspense of where Tom had been and why he didn’t have time to tell his wife where he was going. The big reveal of where he’d really been provided the story with an excellent twist and I definitely did not see it coming.
I liked Lucy initially and felt sorry for her being left to look after their children and juggling work too. However, as the story progressed I grew quite irritated with her and thought she was quite immature. I don’t want to say too much about the plot in case I spoil it, but I felt she was the main reason for the toxic relationship with her old friend. However, she does redeem herself at the end and I was happy to see her become more open-minded about the entire situation.
I don’t mind open endings, but for this one I would have preferred it to have ended differently. It was rather abrupt and I felt like these characters still had more to say. I would have liked some more twists too, but it’s a compelling read nonetheless and you could easily read it in one sitting. It’s an enjoyable read and I will keep an eye out for more books by this author.
I enjoyed this family drama book. It was a quick read, well written and easy to follow. A good cast of characters and told largely in the present but with some flashbacks to Lucy’s time at university.
Briefly, when Lucy gets a short message from her husband saying he won’t be home she panics. What is going on? Has he left her? She can get no reply from his phone and then she remembers that he has a tracking app installed on his phone; this should tell her where he is. Whilst she’s trying to hide his disappearance from her family and work colleagues she is determined to find him and have it out with him. But is his disappearance as simple as it seems?
I thought this was a good simple plot and although we found out well before the end what was behind his disappearance there was still more to be told. The intricacies of family relationships are a big part of this tale and show how minor issues can become all encompassing, to the extent that invisible barriers are raised. This was a good read with some suspense and some unexpected reveals. Personally I would’ve liked a slightly less abrupt ending, it leaves you to make your own decisions, and I’m sure that was probably the authors intent.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This book is coming out May 19, 2022. His Other Woman by Sarah Edghill. Sarah Edghill also written a book title: A Thousand Tiny Disappointments came out on September 21, 2021.
This story I am about to talk about is called. His Other Woman by Sarah Edghill, the story begins with Lucy Brent, she received a text message from her husband Tom Brent, saying," I need to go away. Please don't try to get in touch. I can't explain right now." Lucy in the middle of a grocery store in the cheese aisle. That horrible and creepy at the same time. Makes Lucy confuse and bewilder. Lucy just left her home, and Tom was just with her at the breakfast table, that morning knowing she is going shopping. Lucy received that message. Now, this story drew me inside of it covers with Lucy Brent, and her husband Tom. Well now, you will read more characters inside like Lucy Brent, Tom Brent, Nat,19, Maisie,14, Abi, Paul, Rosie, Geoffrey, Margaret Debbie Lucy's friend and, Stella Brent her husband Tom twin sister, Jackie, Eliza Debbie's daughter, Jon, George, Clare is Stella's friend for years, Anna and James her colleagues at work. And more characters that makes this book so entertain. The mystery begins with that text. And Lucy feels are all over the place. I was wondering what going on here. What is Tom doing to his wife Lucy? Why did he text that message to Lucy? I had to read to see what happening. I don't want to give away so much of the plot, so let just say family. All about family. I enjoyed this book so much. It's more fantastic, you just have to read it a must can of story. A hidden gem storyline novel.
This is the second book I have read by Sarah Edghill and I found it to be an interesting family drama. When Lucy's husband, Tom, goes away unexpectedly after sending her a text saying that he had to go away and not to contact him she is distraught. She immediately suspects that he is having an affair but doesn't know what to do and tries to keep his disappearance from her two teenage children. The truth is actually quite different but the family are thrown into turmoil when Tom's twin sister is arrested for a serious criminal offence. His Other Woman started off well. The family dynamics between Lucy and Stella was intriguing and the book touched on emotive issues. There were some interesting characters, especially Lucy's mother, Margaret and Geoffrey, her step father. However, for me, the books lost one star for the rushed ending. It left me wanting to know more about the court case and its outcome and its effect on all the family members. Thank you Bloodhound Books for an ARC of His Other Woman.
I thought this book initially got off to quite a slow start, although it did draw me in. Lucy’s husband Tom goes missing for several days completely out of the blue. Lucy finds out where he is though and goes there to find out exactly what he is hiding from her. But is everything as it seems or has Lucy jumped to the wrong conclusions? This is a well written book which I found to be an easy read but it didn’t wow me, or make me desperate to continue reading. At times it felt a bit overly long and a little too descriptive for my liking. The book had mostly likeable characters, a couple I didn’t like and who I found it hard to have any empathy for. There were some twists in the story although I had mostly guessed them beforehand. The ending felt really rushed which was a little disappointing in my opinion. Overall a good, ok read - just not a great one for me.
Thank you Bloodhound Books for a gifted copy of this book, for an honest and voluntary review. All opinions are my own.
I was reeled into this story from the first few chapters, it was fast paced, thrilling and the curiosity of the plot revelations made me flying through these pages. Admittingly, this pace did slow a little about half way through but not enough to ruin any entertainment value.
I don’t know what it is about having a main character named the same as myself that makes them so relatable, but my empathy levels for Lucy were intensely high! I can’t say much about the other characters without adding spoilers but I will say is this plot is full of unexpected secret revelations that boosted my admiration for this author’s writing style.
This is an enjoyable read that is perfect for fans of this genre. I will be looking for this author in the future and is a highly recommended read.
What would you do if your spouse of more than 20 years texted you to say he’s going away and, to add insult to injury, added, “Please don’t try to get in touch”? In Sarah Edghill’s ‘His Other Woman’, Lucy is in the grocery store when she receives just such a message from her husband. She experiences all the expected emotions - confusion, worry, and fury, culminating in the assumption that he is with another woman. Even as she feels her life unraveling, Lucy searches for answers and finds that she was right…But not the way she thought. If you like a quick read that involves family drama with a few twists added in, you will be entertained. I enjoyed this story in spite of the ending that left a bit to be desired. Thank you to Bloodhound Books for the opportunity to read and review an advance copy of this book.
An easy entertaining read. The main character, Lucy frustrated me no end. I wanted to shake her and tell her to do something about her spoilt rotten, ill behaved children. This is the same woman who firmly gives a coworker a piece of her mind (for her mistakes). The story concept was interesting and held my attention. Towards the end of the book Lucy says she is not sure her marriage will survive (sequel?) when there had been no indication of that prior, in fact just the opposite. Then the book ended. What happens is up to the reader to imagine, I was OK with the ending except for the comment about the marriage surviving.
I was given an advance copy by bloodhound books but the review is entirely my own
Even though the book started slow, once you continue reading you will get engaged in the story and need to continue reading, it takes a while but the book does get better. The main protagonist, Lucy, is not an easy lovable character, there are times that I wanted to shake her to try to change the way she was thinking, but at the same time she was in a hard situation. Lucy's life is falling apart when her husband disappears and she was able to find him, using the location on his phone, and what she sees crashes her world apart, but who is this other woman that her husband is hugging? the answer will truly surprise you and the whole situation will saddened you. At the end this family realizes that love and family is the most important and what truly counts in life.
A story written about real life and how we can all get carried away with the wrong impressions or thoughts, especially about those we hold most dear to our hearts. True story about twins, Tom and Stella, and how they rely and count on each other, even to the point where they keep each other on the most important shelf of their lives and of those whom they love. That's why Lucy freaks out when she gets a text that is noninclusive to information only that her husband won't be in contact. Hard competing against someone else who knows your most beloved better then you do! Great storyline with lots of ups and downs and plenty of questions and mystery. Wish there are more stories written like this one. Would read them all!
This dragged out story has a few decent twists but I found it extremely dull.
Lucy gets a text from her husband to say that he’s going away and for her not to contact him. She had no idea of any problems in their marriage so is totally shocked by his behaviour. Two of their teenage children still live at home but have such dysfunctional lives that they don’t notice or comment about him not being around. This story didn’t work for me, Tom and Lucy appeared to be a very happy couple but there was a terrible lack of communication between the two of them from previous events in their past which rebounded to effect the events in the book.
I enjoyed this suspenseful story. This is my first book by this author and I look forward to reading more from in the future. This is a well written story about a woman whose life starts falling apart. Her problem is that her husband with with another woman. Not just any woman but one that has been hated for twenty years. You don't want to miss this one. I enjoyed being pulled into the story from the start. They are connectable and kept me turning pages. This is a fast paced, action filled story that is hard to put down. The twists and turns had me sitting on the edge of my seat. This is a fun, entertaining story that I highly recommend.
Lucy is shopping when she gets a strange text from husband Tom, telling her he's going away and not to contact him. When she gets home, it's like he's simply disappeared - his coffee mug and paper still on the table where he had been sitting. Lucy then spends days trying to locate him - where is he, and who is he with? The story then progresses to examine family, friendship and jealousy.
I actually quite enjoyed the book, even if it was a tad predictable - until the end that is. I was so disappointed in it (I won't say why as to not reveal too much) but it really ruined the book for me!
Picture someone hitting you with a shovel and then gently tending to your wound... That's how the plot of "His Other Woman" left me feeling! I knew I would enjoy Sarah Edghill's writing (check out "A Thousand Tiny Disappointments"), and that her knack for creating realistic and solid characters packs a punch, but this book had me hooked from the first page and didn't let go. No doubt I'll be reading this again in the not too distant future.
My thanks to the author. This review was written voluntarily and is entirely my own, unbiased, opinion.
A text message that changes everything !! Lucy is shopping when she receives a message from her husband stating he is going away and for her not to try and contact him !! What is happeneing ? Where is he ? So many questions but no answers !!
This is a great twisty family drama that will have you sucked into the story, eagerly turning the pages to see what will happen next. Some great characters that you really get to know. A great quick read.
Thank you to Bloodhound Books for a digital copy of this book.
This story starts off running, then it tends to slow down to a comfortable pace. I wasn't sure of it when I first started this book, having gone through some 'like' personal issues but I am glad I finished it. I am also a twin and I understand the feelings of one of the main characters to a certain degree, but not completely. All in all I thought it was a good psychological story. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book
A great start to the book and an interesting premise. Lucy's husband disappears and tells her not to worry which of course, is the start of her worrying whether he is having an affair or what has happened. The first half is good as we explore how she finds out where he is and what she thinks. I found it to be a bit lengthly after that with lots of unnecessary detail and the story seemed to tail off a bit. I found the ending very disappointing.
