What if the most unlikely person you’d ever consider is exactly what you need?

Lark

Most of the guys I meet just want to get me into bed. Then there’s this sexy firefighter named Dylan. I’m not sure what he wants from me, and I don’t think he knows, either.
Even though we have nothing in common, we have a great time together, and our attraction is undeniable. The only problem? He’s still mourning the loss of his husband years later, and I’m not sure if he’s ready to move on. Even if he was, would someone like Dylan really want someone like me?

Dylan

Lark Genardi and I couldn’t be more different. He’s uninhibited, carefree, and eight years younger than me, and he embraces life in a way I’ve never seen before. Whenever we’re together, I’m happier than I’ve been in a very long time. But whatever’s happening between us makes me feel disloyal to my late husband’s memory.

I’m not sure if I can find a way to reconcile my past and my future. But I find myself wondering—what if the most unlikely guy I could ever imagine is exactly what I need?

Lark is a lighthearted, opposites attract MM romance. It’s part of Alexa Land’s Firsts and Forever Stories. Each book in this series can be read as a stand-alone and features a different couple.

Adorable

I was looking forward to Lark’s book, and it truly delivered. Lark is absolutely precious. Like, I want to put him in my top favorite characters list because I just adore him. And the light he brings to Dylan’s life just makes it even better. This is a low angst read but there is some grief and panic attacks in it so it’s not 100% fluff. But it all works and just makes the story more rich. I could honestly read another book about just the two of them. And I cannot wait for the next book.

Sweet

Lark and Dylan are a very cute couple and I enjoyed getting to read their story. Lark's the cutest cinnamon roll cam boy, and getting to see Dylan truly healing and opening his heart again made my heart gooey, and I loved getting to see the cast of characters we've all come to love. I really enjoyed getting both perspectives this time.

Dual POV, contemporary opposites attract romance with a very happy ending.

I was hoping we'd get Kel's story next, but it looks like Logan, Lark's younger (and surprised single father) brother is up next.

Sweet, low angst, opposites attract story. Lark is just a ray of sunshine! I love everything about him. Dylan is grieving the loss of his husband six years prior and is not quite ready to be in a relationship. He stumbles upon Lark's cam page one night and is enamored. As the two become friends and then more, Dylan begins to realize that he just may be ready for his life to change.

As Alexa Land's books often do, this one contains some heat, some light drama and plenty of humor on the way to Lark and Dylan's HEA. This book is just so sweet and although the characters have appeared before in other books, their story is brand new and could easily work as a standalone. Looking forward to the next one!

Awe… What a sweet lovable and fun filled book, I loved it! Lark was the sweetest and adorable and I loved him so much, Dylan was a sweetheart and honest and he needed Lark in his life, it was awesome he flunked into finding him on line, the winning the bid and met at the party, it was meant to be. I love home too and I’m glad he became a part of the family where Lark lives and now Larks little brother and his baby son, I can’t wait for Logan’s story!

Lark

I loved Lark and am happy to get his story. This book wasn’t full of crazy antics as much as other books from the author. I enjoy this author’s books; it’s exactly what I needed. A sweet romance, great characters, a happy ending and another one on the horizon.

Like me, you probably fell in love with Lark in Casey and Theo’s book, Bad Ideas. He’s adorable, precious, kind, thoughtful, and more than a little fanciful, like when he goes to bed cuddling one of the best gifts he’s ever received – a tiny donkey piñata from Dylan, his love interest. Dylan is likewise winsome in this heartwarming story of two men meeting in an unlikely way and finding an enduring love.

Lark is twenty-six but looks many years younger in his cutesy outfits like glittery red sneakers, a cropped mesh t-shirt, and unicorn “daytime” pajamas (I can relate to those). Life hasn’t always been easy for him: he was kicked out by his parents for being gay at fifteen, then lived with his beloved Gran who died four years ago. Now he's happily living with his found family in the hot pink Victorian in San Francisco. He’s a cam boy performing sexually on camera online. He’s a pro at being flirty and sexy but that’s a role he plays; in real life he’s awkward with men.

Dylan also appeared in a previous Alexa Land book – All I Ever Wanted – as a widowed firefighter and River’s failed date. It’s now been six years since his husband died. He does okay living in the present; his difficulty lies in past memories and worries about future uncertainty. That’s when his anxiety spikes. Dylan is tired of friends trying to set him up so he decides to meet his needs on online sex sites similar to OnlyFans.

That’s where he sees Lark whom he later describes with the following: “His joy was contagious. I’d never seen anyone so radiant, so effervescent, so unapologetically themselves. It reminded me of what I already knew— that Lark was truly something special.” Dylan and Lark get to know each other online and through texting then coincidentally meet in person. They start spending time together and it’s effortless, whether they’re cooking, singing karaoke, or snuggling on the sofa.

Even though Lark makes Dylan feel happier and better about himself, Dylan doesn’t open up easily. If he keeps Lark at arm’s length, he won’t get hurt again, he reasons. Lark misconstrues Dylan's hesitancy as not wanting to date a sex worker. But they stumble along until Dylan faces a crisis that leaves him demoralized and defeated. Can Lark offer the comfort he needs – but doesn’t feel he deserves – or will Dylan's anxiety and identity crisis get the better of him and destroy their fledgling relationship?

As mentioned, Lark is a darling character but Dylan becomes endearing, too. Opposites attract in this love story and Lark is the perfect man to make Dylan feel alive again and give him a reason to look forward to the future. I sympathized with the loss and pain he’s endured and his battle to feel whole again. His anxiety is something relatable to many of us and he needs to learn not to view it as a character flaw, a lesson society as a whole needs to understand.

Lark and Dylan aren’t the only wonderful characters. One of my favorite things about the Firsts and Forever Stories series is the tight knit found family that really came together in Bad Ideas and continues here. All the Victorian’s current and former residents – Yolanda, JoJo, Casey, Theo, Kel, and Eliot – are here. Other memorable characters are Dylan's supportive friends from work and his family.

This book has all the humor we’ve come to expect from Ms. Land. I’m in awe of how her brain concocts one wacky idea after another like the Buckingham Phallus sex shop. And Lark is continuously laugh out loud hilarious. There are also plenty of sweet swoony moments, like the perfect ending of their first date or the time Dylan carries Lark to the couch.

I haven't read a book by Alexa Land I haven’t enjoyed yet – and I’ve read thirty-three of them. I have so many favorites and this one is right there among them. This is her first dual POV and it works wonderfully to provide us with both of the leading men’s thoughts and feelings. There’s something extra special about Lark and Dylan's love story – and the characters themselves. It’s gentle and comforting and lovely. Highly recommended.

Oh I love Lark. I wanna know Lark. I would love a Lark in my life. Dylan was a perfect match for lark. I feel the whimsical nature of Lark and the absolute hard-core practicality of Dylan matches and makes them so interesting. And fun. Once again Alexa Land was able to give them a few real life challenges without getting bogged down but still in a light, non-oppressive way, if that makes sense. Either way no matter what Lark and Dylan - Me Likie!

Oh Lark, how I love you!

As soon as Lark came onto the page earlier in the series, I couldn’t wait for his book. He didn’t disappoint! What a fun character he is. And Dylan is the perfect match for him—they both bring things to the relationship that the other needs. There were several laugh-out-loud moments in this and I loved it!

Lark. Is. the. Best.
Honestly, what more do you need? Again, super low-angst and adorable. I love the pink Victorian crew so much--one of my very favorite found families. I'm super curious about the next book for spoiler reasons that I won't get into.

I love a good opposites attract story, and this one is just so good. Lark and Dylan have basically nothing in common, but seeing them find their way together was wonderful. Their chemistry is off the charts - not just sexual, but emotional too. This story was sexy, it was funny, it was a little emotional at times, and it was just delightful to read.

Sweet and funny!

I’ve been looking forward to Lark’s book and I absolutely loved it. Alexa’s books are total comfort reads and you know they’re going to be full of sweet, funny and romantic moments.

Lark is fun and adventurous, a perfect contrast to the more serious Dylan. I liked seeing how much they complemented each other. Lark shakes up Dylan’s predictable routine with a lot of joy, freedom, adventure and change. He challenges Dylan in the best way and, after grieving for his late husband for 5+ years, Dylan is finally ready to grab onto life and live it. Lark is such a kind and caring man and gets so much love and support from Dylan, who adores Lark for who he is.

This book is a great mix of fun and serious, and has several laugh out loud parts. Alexa always writes a scene where something outrageously funny happens and the scene in Lark practically had me in tears I was laughing so hard. I like how Lark and Dylan are both on the precipice of figuring themselves out and where they want life to take them next, and they support each other and work through those decisions together.

Overall this was a pleasure to read and I love Dylan and Lark so much. We also get time with several characters from previous books and I ADORE Lark’s found family. There’s a teaser for the next book in the epilogue and I can’t wait to read it!

Highly recommend this book and literally everything Alexa has ever written. All of her books are stand-alones, but relate to each other in some way, so they’re especially fun to read as a whole. But it’s not required; this one can definitely be read on its own!

This was cute but I felt it was lacking in any deep emotional elements. We could’ve really gotten more in so many areas. And even the heat in this book wasn’t quite in line with the other books. Just kind of odd.

I wish Lark was portrayed quite so childlike. The cam boy thing ended fizzling out in the story too which was a missed opportunity to explore balancing that with a relationship. Plus he wasn’t wealthy. He needed some kind of income to survive.

Dylan was a wonderful man but I don’t think we got enough insight into his relationship with his husband who passed away. At one point Dylan sister, Diana, mentioned that Travis wasn’t perfect but we never got anything else.

The bit towards the end with the raccoon, dishwasher and impromptu toilet paper ensemble was way to slapstick for me. Ok it was just dumb.

I felt like no showcasing more of Dylan’s anxiety issues was a missed opportunity and made events later in the book feel a bit too disjointed. It lacked a deep emotional response.

This was a sweet book and loved both men but I just wanted more depth.

Book 5 of Alexa Land's First and Forever Stories series.

Lark is a sweet boy - ok, a sweet man in his mid-20s living with characters we've met in the previous couple of books in the series. He works via his online presence, but one night, he tries something new and meets a nice man who's online for the first time.

Dylan, a veteran firefighter of 15 years mourning the loss of his husband several years later, agrees to attend a New Year's party the night after a private chat with a camp boy, Lark. At the party, he discovers he's local and share a kiss that sends sparks flying.

Knowing they're both local, they start meeting up and discover they're not at all alike, but they're exactly what each other needs.

This is a sweet story of two men finding their happily-ever-after with each other after the unlikeliest of odds. Another enjoyable read that I finished in less than a day. Great series!

It was great to take a trip back to San Francisco and the world of Firsts and Forever Stories. This group of friends is so accepting, loving, and supportive that you just feel good reading their romance stories. Lark's story was highly anticipated because he is such a cool, quirky character. As the story begins, he works as a cam boy to make ends meet. While doing a one-on-one session, he connects with a firefighter, Dylan. Dylan is widowed and still grieving the loss of his husband some years before. As the two men start out, they decide to be friends with benefits, but when their chemistry is undeniable, they both begin to think more seriously about what's possible. This is a romance full of kindness, passion, and a lot of real love.

unbelievable

Previously Lark was depicted like a child. He acts like a child a lot in this book but he doesn’t think that way. His thoughts are all totally normal and don’t go with the quirky personality. Dylan was boring and Lark was like two people. The parts coming from him made him seem like a regular functioning adult, Dylan’s perspective made it seem like he’s dating a child.

This author seems to really want to show how inclusive they are but it comes off wrong. There are trans characters but they’re not important enough to be anything but a token trans character. The one time the trans woman was described it seemed more like a drag Queen. It felt like these were just included so the author could pat themselves on the back and say look I’m inclusive.

This was really, really sweet and I loved it! A nice easy read and I needed that.

QUICK THOUGHTS
-- Firefighter/Cam boy pairing -- super sweet -- light angst --loss and grief -- starting over -- opposites attract -- quirky MC -- made me laugh -- warmed my heart -- chosen family -- great friends -- loved the MCs... Lark & Dylan -- characters from previous stories make an appearance -- I hope Kel gets his own story -- not really a stand alone -- satisfying ending

Lark & Dylan (M/M)

I absolutely adore Lark. The author writes such a clear picture of his personality: FUN, a big heart, positive sense of self, free spirit, loves his sweets, sensual, loves & supports his chosen family. Dylan & his issues with anxiety were realistic and his grieving was relatable. These seemingly opposites end up being the perfect couple... exactly what the other needs!

3 stars. Sweet, light, and super fluffy. A good choice when you can’t take any angst, and just want something fun. There’s not necessarily much depth, but I super appreciated that the author never fell prey to creating lots of drama for the sake of drama. The MC’s display a reasonable amount of emotional maturity and so even though there is a “crisis moment” it never devolves into A Big Misunderstanding. Hallelujah. Well done.

Enjoyable

This was a really enjoyable book. Lark was adorable and Dylan just wanted to love and be loved.
I liked that Travis (the dead husband) never ended up a bad person he will always be a big part of Dylans life and in the end Lark understood that.
The raccoon chapter was soooo soooo funny omg just hilarious.
Would of been nice with Lark deciding a career. In the end you want these two to has everything job, house, kids and great family.
Truly enjoyable.

another great addition

I was so happy to see Dylan finally get his “Happy Ever After”! I absolutely loved that Alexa wrote this book from both Dylan and Lark’s point of view. Can’t wait for the next book which looks like it will be about Lark’s brother, who comes in at the end of this story!

The manner in which Lark is introduced is really smooth and I was really impressed by his bravado. First date and Dylan gets the full treatment. Another sweet romance and I think what made it a four is that I found Lark a darling, and Dylan was too. So it was not necessarily angst filled but it was a happy story. Sometimes that's what you need.
