Opera Tampa star Krista Bonner has reached the pinnacle of success. Or so people believe.
Very few are aware the coloratura soprano's health is quickly deteriorating thanks to her ongoing battle with lupus. But it's the abuse she suffers at the hands of her husband Gage that she's desperate to escape. Her combined struggles push her goal of singing at the New York Metropolitan Opera into the realm of impossible. She's positive her guardian ghost Owen could help, but she foolishly banished him from her life six years earlier when he warned her not to marry Gage.
Now Owen is back. But his solution to her problems comes with a price. It involves the snow and cold of the Rocky Mountains. And an unknown ghost she must help.
Determined, Krista is willing to try anything to achieve her ultimate goal. Even if it ends up killing her.
From the first sentence, the reader gets hooked. I looked down at my kindle and was 9% into the book and already i knew this was going to be good. When I looked down again it registered 13% I knew i had to binge read this book! The author does a wonderful job at creating a storyline so well that you can easily visualize and insert yourself into the story as a silent witness. Each character is carefully crafted before your eyes. You are going to love some, hate some, loath some, feel sorry for some, and be wary of some. The main character is an Opera singer who has a spiritual guardian. As her career is taking off, her health declines. It doesnt help that her husband is cruel and sketchy. Some serious things happen and the guardian gives the main character a choice. Is she willing to help a soul that is banished to a certain mansion, help save his soul and in return get 9 months of freedom from ailments and reach her goal to sing just once at the NY Met opera? Or will she choose not to and her health continues its natural course and she will never have the strength to reach her goal of the Met. Even with no promises of her safety, throughout her journey she learns how to be brave. How to push through. How to trust herself, who to trust and who not to. This story checks off a lot of boxes. The Paranormal, danger, beauty, a woman finding and grasping her inner strength, friendship, dedication, love. The story flowed so naturally. Every now and then a little gem is shared by the author that the reader may not think twice about. However, if you can recognize those little hints along the way, you may be able to put the pieces together even before the main character does! I found this book totally delightful. When I wasnt reading it (I had to stop in order to charge my kindle) I was always thinking about it. If you are also a fan of Darynda Jones or Karen White (Tradd Street series), you will love this book and Perrin Birk will be added to your list of favorite authors. I cannot wait for book 2 to come out!!
