A small town sheriff running from her past learns to love again in the first book in K-9 Defenders, a suspenseful new romance series from award-winning author Sandra Owens.

Every small town has its secrets…

Chief of police Tristan Church likes Marsville just the way it is. He has his job and his police dog, Fuzz, for company. He could have Sheriff Skylar Morgan, too, but she’s determined to keep him at arm’s length, even if the one night they shared was unforgettable.

Skylar can’t deny that the connection she has with Tristan is unlike anything she’s ever felt before. She loves Marsville, but while most of the town is happy with her as Sheriff, it’s been a long, hard road proving herself. Dating the town’s beloved police chief is the last thing her reputation needs—even if it’s exactly what her heart wants.

But when their sleepy little town is suddenly full of dangers, it’s clear that someone is targeting Skylar. She and Tristan must work together to find the culprit…and as the threat against her grows, so does the intimacy between them. With their lives on the line, can they trust their hearts not to break?

This is a Romantic Suspense, and this is the first book in the K-9 Defenders series. I loved all the characters in this book, but my favorite was the little girl and Fuzz. The suspense and action does not come into play until the last part of this book, but I really loved it. I feel the first part of the book you really got to know the characters, and then the romance came into play. This was a great fun read with a lot of funny/fun moments, but there was some action too. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Carina Press) or author (Sandra Owens) via NetGalley, so I can give an honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.

I’m torn. I felt a bit like two people with very different goals wrote this book. I enjoyed both sides, but together, it didn’t work that well. Like steak and strawberries.

The sweet part was the romance and the small town vibe. Skye and Tristan were adorable together–most of the time. Their backstories shone some light on who they are and what they want, and they were overall very likeable characters. The one year pining might have been a bit unrealistic though, but I enjoyed the fact that there had been a strong attraction at first, but due to their circumstances, they learned more about each other for a whole year, the lust becoming love along the way.

The sexy element was lacking a bit though. There were lots of intense moments, and lusty thoughts in great details, but once they ended up in bed, it was over in a couple of sentences. Not exactly closed door but not really explicit either. I wouldn’t mind a mostly clean romance if there wasn’t so much build up right from the beginning. It left me frustrated, to be honest.

The small town part was cute, with many unique characters and situations. Sometimes, it even felt too ridiculous or too hilarious for a mostly serious romance.

But it was a necessary element for the ‘steak’ part of the story, the romantic suspense. Skye unintentionally brought troubles with her when she became the sheriff. It appears late in the book, but it was a good surprise as the story was becoming a bit boring and repetitive at that point. But the atmosphere changes completely. It isn’t exactly dark, but it brings some angst, and some action too. My favorite thing was the bit of role reversal in the end between Skye and Tristan. So welcomed.

So yeah, I’m a bit torn. I enjoyed it, but it wasn’t a smooth read.

Tristan is the chief of police in Marsville where he lives with his brothers and niece - and his dog Fuzz an official police dog. He and county sheriff Skylar had one special night together when she was in town for her job interview - neither realizing who the other was. Since Skylar's move to town and into her new job - she's pretended like the night never happened. Tristan would love there to be more between them - but has been respectful of Skylar's boundaries. When work brings them together - their relationship does start to move forward - even against Skylar comfort level and boundaries.

I loved Tristan in this story - and of course Fuzz (Sandra Owens legitimately writes the BEST dogs). Tristan is definitely a cinnamon roll hero if there ever was one. Despite his alpha male job - he is sweet and caring to everyone around him. Skylar was definitely prickly and while her reasons were understandable - she wasn't entirely likable.

Overall - this was a good read and I'm really looking forward to reading more about this town and Tristan's brothers.

I received this via NetGalley as an ARC but these opinions are all my own.

In His Protection by Sandra Owens is the first book in her K-9 Defenders series. What a super beginning to the series! I thought the beginning could have been faster paced but before I knew it...wham! The action and excitement whirled off the pages at such a fast pace I couldn't put the book down. I really enjoyed the characters and the Marsville town folk. The two main characters, Skye and Tristan, are great together as a couple. Two bright spots in this storyline were Tristan's niece Everly (with her pickle habit) and Tristan's dog Fuzz. I look forward to the next book in the series.

I received an ARC and this is my honest review.

Do you hate coming into a series mid way - than don't wait, this is book 1 of a Trilogy Sandra Owens K-9 Defenders. This is Tristan, our police chief the oldest brother, but they all pop up and have crucial parts. Tristan had a hot one night stand a year ago with a beautiful woman who came through town. A year later Skylar shows up as the Sheriff and pretends they never met. Trust me its deeper than that. This is a great family premise, a lesson about checking the lay of the land to work your magic on building a relationship. A quirky older woman who runs the town and everyone runs from, even Fuzz the dog hides. A pickle addicted niece (Everly) with a cat called Jellybean. Tristans youngest brother Adam is a world renowned painter, his middle brother (Kade) is in the service and they all come into play when the suspense starts building. I absolutely am thrilled that instead of the usual female doing itty it things, Skye uses her head. I bow down to the heart breaking at the end, the twist there was spectacular. Bringing in *Manny* their housekeeper and cook who has downs is another beautiful part. Book 1 lays the ground work, introduces you to the characters, provides the twisted path to romance with laughter along the way, suspense and HEA. Leaves you wanting to know more about this family. Thank you Sandra Owens, Carina Press and NetGalley for the arc. #sandraowens #carinapress #k9defenders #netgalley

This town charmed me with how kookie it was and the people too. Sure they were odd, but the looked out for each other, something Skylar learned. Skylar and Tristan were interesting, from their initial encounter, to pining for each other, to finally starting something but in secret. It was easy to see why things had to be secret between them due to Skylar's past, but it sucked that by doing so it hurt Tristan.

I did like how when a threat came to Skylar, both police departments stepped up to do what was needed, along with Tristan's family. When the action happened it was actually quite comical. I hated how that seemed to tear Skylar and Tristan apart, but glad someone finally did something to make them talk. It made the ending all the more special!

Series: K-9 Defenders #1

Positive thoughts:
There's nothing like a chief police protecting his girl, who is the sheriff, just by the way. I loved her name, Skylar, but only he called her Skye and it as to remind her of the first time they met. The dog played an awesome part in the story, you fall instantly in love with Fuzz, I absolutely loved his character.
The book is a fast and easy read, no dark subjects to haunt you and lovable, real characters. The little girl was the cutest little thing ever, cant wait to read about her dad's story.
Small town romance that will capture your heart with the way the people care for their own.

Negative thoughts:
I found some of the dialogue was a tad bit immature, nothing too obvious, but it was there. I managed to put it aside and it didn't bother me much.

Overall thoughts:
I could not put this one down, It kept me alive till the wee hours of the morning. The chemistry was amazing between Skye and Tristan, loved it.
The book was full of romance and action too, never a dull moment. I am thrilled to know the next book in the series is about Kade, I can't wait!

- Romance: 4/5

M/F Romance
Triggers: Stalking, kidnapping
I was given this book for an honest review by Wicked Reads.

This is set in a small town. Skye is there to start anew. After leaving her previous assignment, she wants to go where nobody know her. She loves her job, but knows that sometimes, being an outsider can bring with it its own issues. She is in charge of the deputies and not everyone is happy that she got the job. While she deals with some insubordination, she also has to content with the very sexy Chief whom she met the first night she was in town and then promptly ignored.

Tristan knows that Skye is running from something, but he just can't seem to care. She made the rules and now that they have to work together, it takes all of his willpower to keep his hands to himself.

When Skye's past comes back to haunt her, she knows that nothing good is going to come of seeing her former fiance. Also, with a disgruntled employee, that also is a negative in her column. But, the people of the town are going to surprise her.

With danger lurking in the shadows and romance on the horizon, it will take all of her courage to step into the light and more forward.

I can't wait to see what the next book in the series will bring. This was a medium paced story that had more action in the last part of the book. However, the small town feel was refreshing and fun.

In His Protection is the first book in the K-9 Defenders series. The series follows three brothers who were reluctantly raised by their aunt. After her passing, they decided to all live in her house together and raise their niece. This one is Tristan and Skylar's story. He is the oldest brother and Chief of Police.

I loved the dynamic between Tristan and Skylar. They were great together and the sexual tension was off the charts. That year of not giving in to their passion really ramped it up. As for the suspense part of the book, I thought the person who was after her was fairly obvious. Despite that, I still ended up liking the book. I loved Tristan's brothers and his niece. The town was full of seriously adorable characters. It's one I want to visit again. I look forward to book two and Kade's story.

I really enjoyed a big chunk of the book, but the last third was a chore. It was ridiculous and Skylar was unbearable. I like a strong, messy, fragile female lead with baggage, but she was nothing but mean, thoughtless and wallowing in cowardly self-pity and that is not a good look.

This is the first book in a new series – along with other Owens fans, I was delighted that there is a new group of K-9 heroes to follow. If you have not read any of her previous books, I would most definitely recommend them to you. A great combination of suspense, canine skills, and affection and an engaging romance.

Chief of police at Marsville, Tristan Church spent a night with a beautiful stranger last year... then she turned out to be the new sheriff. Ever since then, Skylar Morgan has kept her distance, as she knows just how delicious Tristan is, and how difficult it is to resist the attraction between them.

This simmering need and desire between the two of them is causing both of them great frustration but they are professionals, and for Skylar – who left her last job due to ending a relationship with a colleague – she does not want to go there again. As things get messy in town, and in her personal life, she will have to decide who she trusts and who makes her feel safe and happy.

Tristan and Sky together make a great couple and I loved their ease with each other and the fun that they manage to have even in a dangerous situation. This is greatly helped by Tristan's unusual family situation – he lives in a huge house with his dog, Fuzz; artist brother, Parker; Parker’s daughter, Everley; and, when on leave from the service, his brother, Kade.

I really enjoyed this book and the promise of romances for the other two brothers is great news!

This first book in the K-9 Defenders series was so enjoyable! From the non-stop action, to the romance, to the humor, to the wonderful characters and town, it was just really good!

What happens when the chief of police and his one night stand end up having to have a work relationship??? LOL. I love this storyline! Plus, throw in an awesome dog, some extra wonderful characters, and a town called Marsville…and you have this great, quick read! In His Protection by Sandra Owens is a recommended read from me!

This was such a great romantic suspense book. I would have given it a 5 star rating if she had written in more about the K-9 defense dog, Fuzz. I thought that he would be helping more in order to solve crimes and catch the bad guys. That’s the main reason that I borrowed this book.
I do love the characters and it did have a great storyline.

It started out as like a shit hallmark movie but man i literally had to skip half the book and i still figured out the plot. The dialogue was so stale i felt like i broke a tooth. I had high hopes and while it had cute themes and characters l, it was just too damn slow.

P30 i DO NOT believe that a sheriff would do WHAT she did, WHERE she did it .. WITH a stranger and at THAT time in her professional life .. SO this book plot is unbelievable from the get-go.
I have enjoyed other books by this author .. why she shoots herself in the foot right at the start is a puzzle for sure.
AND .. Okay - read to the end now.
She’s a good writer.. some enjoyable scenes .. but the morals of mc’s are a problem for me.
The church brothers: Tristan, Kade and Parker are a tight knit family. Next two books in this series will be their romances I imagine.
Fuzz (dog) and Everly (Parker’s daughter & lover of pickles) were excellent additions to the story.

Narrated by Patrick Zeller

I’ve enjoyed romantic suspense by Sandra Owens before and I love dogs so In His Protection caught my eye when it popped up at Audible. Unfortunately, there’s not quite enough of the dog – Fuzz – as I’d have liked. He does have a couple of pivotal scenes but the story is not very much about him.

Tristan Church is the chief of police in Marsville, North Carolina. The county sheriff is Skylar Morgan. (I admit I don’t understand why such a small area has two separate police forces but I’ve seen it in other books so I guess it’s a thing in the US, or at least some parts of it.) When Sky came to town to interview for the job, she met Tristan in a bar and they had a hot and steamy night together – first names only (her rule). Tristan was deeply smitten from the jump but when Sky returned to Marsville and realised who they were in relation to one another professionally, she pretended they’d never met and gave him the cold shoulder. Tristan has been trying to get her attention for a year.

Sky left Florida where she held a Chief Deputy position after a bad break up with a fellow cop. That man bad-mouthed her to her colleagues and started rumours she was dirty. She faced an investigation (she was cleared of any wrongdoing – she was actually innocent) and her reputation was severely damaged. She wanted a clean start but vowed not to date another cop. And what is Tristan? Argh.

However, the attraction between them won’t go away and when they are teamed up to plan the reopening of the Marsville UFO Museum (yes, that’s why it’s called Marsville), they’re forced into one another’s company even more and Sky’s fragile shield against his charm fails.

At around the same time, her ex turns up in town and someone burns down her apartment. Plus, there’s a deputy in the county sheriff’s department who has it in for her as well and after she fires him he makes threats against her. So there is a plethora of potential suspects available. It’s soon clear that someone is after something from Sky and won’t stop until they get it. This is where my biggest bone to pick with the story arises. Sky is an experienced and accomplished law enforcement officer. When Tristan asks her not to go anywhere alone it’s only because she’s a woman. There’s just no way he’d have made the same request had Sky been a dude. And, Sky went along with it rather than calling it out as the gendered BS it was! *frowny face*

The author does turn some things around though and Sky does get to do some heroics – just not without some Special Forces officers to help. Male of course. (Tristan’s brother Kade is a Ranger. He has another brother, Parker, who is the fire chief and a talented artist.)

The problem with the plot is that for Tristan to be protective of Sky and do any rescuing (and really, rescuing is one of my very favourite things in romance!) because she’s as talented and experienced as she is, it only serves to diminish her. Not entirely and not always a lot – but enough that I noticed and it grated a little.

The push/pull of the relationship is Sky’s reluctance to get in a relationship where, if it all went wrong, she’d have to leave town and start all over again AGAIN. This a real risk for her. Tristan does not think the town would turn on Sky if they broke up but he’s 100% all in anyway and wants her to be his forever. I do like a man in pursuit romantically (and respectfully) speaking. There again, sometimes Tristan made choices to withhold information from Sky that may have spooked her relationship-wise but which she had a right to know professionally so that was a minus in his column. It wasn’t egregious though and, lucky for him, it wasn’t anything that put her at risk.

That said, Tristan also overtly recognised that she needed to stand on her own with her deputies and not interfere with her work and he did treat her with due professional respect most of the time.

The narration was really good. It’s been ages since I’ve listened to Patrick Zeller and I had to ask myself why that was. He has a great range of character voices – from Parker’s 5-year-old daughter, Everly, to the old town matriarch, Ms. Mabel Mackle, to different tones for each Church brother and beyond. His pacing and tone are great and I really liked the emotion he brought to the performance as well. Not overdone; just right.

I’m sure I enjoyed In His Protection more on audio than I would have in print because of the narration. Some of the things which bothered me about the story were easier to manage with Mr. Zeller in my ears. In fact, I liked his performance so much, I immediately went and bought another Owens/Zeller audio collaboration.

Some of the suspense plot stretched my credulity to the breaking level but I enjoyed the romance and I liked Sky and Tristan (most of the time) and I liked them together.

3.5 hearts

I'm always interested in reading about dogs and a North Carolina setting.  The first in the K-9 Defenders series doesn't have a trained K-9, rather a smart dog.  So I'm not sure the series title is very accurate. I peeked at the other two books and it looks like the series is about the three brothers.

In His Protection features police chief, Tristan who has a loved dog, Fuzz.   He has two brothers. Kade is a special ops military guy and Parker is the fire chief.  Tristan is the oldest and lives in the family home with Parker and niece, Everly.   Parker is also a successful artist.

Skye is the new sheriff who left Florida to escape a nightmare ex-fiance.  She's determined not to be involved with men again but after a one-night stand when she comes to interview for the job, they are both hooked.  She puts him off for a year until they need to work together on some town projects and she is in serious danger from her ex and a drug lord.

Things get very dangerous very quickly.   I enjoy Tristan and his family.  Skye is a great person and competent in her role as sheriff.  The characters here are well developed and I liked them. We get both Tristan and Skye's point of view which I liked.

The strike by the criminals is fast and unexpected, a real twist on things.  In hindsight, it makes sense.  I liked how everything played out except the final conflict between Tristan and Skye.  I do really look forward to more of this series with Kade next and it looks like an another, not really K-9, dog.

Reviewed at Happily Ever After Romance

In His Protection begins the K-9 Defenders series with a story that has everything I could possibly want in a Romantic Suspense but more importantly… believability.

Tristan and Skylar are not strangers when they meet again, but by Skylar’s determination to keep him at arm’s length you’d think they hadn’t shared one amazing night together. Now both are the protectors of Marsville, Tristan as Police Chief, Skylar as Sheriff – and if Skylar has her way that’s all they’ll ever be protectors of the same town. But situations change, especially when they are both on the same committee to open up the old UFO Museum… or not. But not all is quiet in this small town, for danger is right around the corner and it’s headed straight for Skylar.

I don’t think I’ve ever found a Sandra Owens story that I didn’t love. In His Protection brings us a couple who, for a portion of their story, is an extremely slow burn as Tristan slowly works to gain Skylar’s trust. There is a definite spark between them yet Skylar is holding back in letting him know just how much she is beginning to care for Tristan. She not only has trust issues, but her ex can be trouble, so in her mind, she’s not only protecting herself from being hurt again but also protecting Tristan from the consequences of being in her life. Trouble will still find them both in spite of her best efforts.

I loved the slow movement of their relationship and watching Skylar begin to allow herself to feel once again, to trust little by little. It felt more realistic instead of falling into insta-love. Now, don’t get me wrong insta-love can be powerfully romantic but for this couple slow and steady on Tristan’s part will eventually bring Skylar into his life the way he wants her to be. The secondary characters really made this romance come alive for me from a pickle-loving little girl to a Manny, Andrew who happens to have Downs but is also the greatest cook, nanny, and housekeeper around. A very protective police dog, Fuzz, and solid friendships and brothers with a tight bond will round out this story and bring in that realistic, believable factor that always elevates a story for me. The danger is very real and we feel it as that threat is building. Besides, what’s not to love about a small town with a UFO Museum? I found lots of chuckles, intense moments, and a love worth fighting for in In His Protection. And if you love a solid, good romantic suspense story and love to get in at the beginning of a series then you’ll want to pick this one up soon.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

“And when I say “Mine”, it doesn’t mean that I own you. It means that you are mine to love and cherish.” (Quote from ARC)

The first installment in Sandra Owens’ new series (K-9 Defenders), “In His Protection (Carina Press) features two brave, intelligent characters, both with strong personalities and in public order and law enforcement jobs.
The story is entertaining and, as usual with Sandra Owens’ heroes, Tristan is an awesome male character, with the right combination of alphaness, playfulness and affection.
The hero’s certainty about his feelings and the way he demonstrates them in so many different ways is compelling. He’s tuned to care and protect and yet he’s so respectful and tender.
Tristan and Skye’s relationship has a steamy beginning, full of heat, mystery and the promise of romance. I really liked that month between the first and second encounters and the year they spent basically doing nothing about the attraction, just trying to contain it.
In a way, it shows more about the characters depth of character and steadiness and the power of their desire for each other than anything the author could write about it directly.
I also loved seeing them confess that during that year they dreamed about each other; desire is such a human emotion.
The dating process was interesting, too. Again, Tristan’s ability for respecting Skye’s boundaries and still be tenacious (and playful about it all) is admirable (and fun).
Their chemistry is a mix of sexual attraction, respect and mutual admiration, affection, laughter, and a very positive energy.
Skye´s reluctance about making the romance official is understandable, her fears rooted in previous very negative experiences. The story shows how small-town environments can have a meaningful impact in romance and romantic relationships.
There was a certain impasse in the story when the characters’ fears and their conflicting feelings become a bit muddled.
The writing is excellent and the secondary characters very interesting, anticipating exciting new stories in the series.

Love the book! Keep them coming!💖💜💖

“So beautiful,” he murmured. “I could say the same about you.” She glanced around. “It’s not my birthday, you know.” “No, but it is a special night...well, I hope it turns out that way.” There was uncertainty in his voice, or maybe nervousness. “Just my opinion, but any night with you is special.” “Let’s hope you still think that in a few minutes.” He glanced down. “Fuzz has something for you.” She hadn’t even noticed Fuzz was in the room; that was how mesmerizing her man was. A laugh escaped her when she saw the blue bowtie around Fuzz’s neck. “Aren’t you a handsome boy?” Hanging from his mouth was a silver gift bag. “For me?” Although she still didn’t understand what was happening, butterflies danced in her stomach. She took the bag from Fuzz, then glanced up at Tristan. He nodded. “Open it.” When she pulled out a small blue velvet box, Tristan dropped to a knee, and she almost went down with him, so weak were her legs. He took the box from her. “Skye Morgan, from the time you walked into my life, there’s been only you. My heart said, ‘Mine.’ That never changed, even when I’d given up hope that there would ever be an us. And when I say, ‘Mine,’ it doesn’t mean that I own you. It means that you are mine to love and cherish.” “And you’re mine.” “I am. Always and forever. Will you marry me, Sheriff?” He opened the lid of the box and removed the ring, a beautiful bezel set diamond. She’d never seen a flat diamond secured by a platinum ring instead of prongs before. It was unique, and she loved it. “It’s perfect.” Tears pooled in her eyes. “Yes. Oh, yes, I will marry you, Chief.” His big smile was a beautiful thing to see. He slipped the ring on her finger, then stood, wrapped his arms around her, and kissed her. When they came up for air, he yelled, “She said yes!” People poured out from the back and surrounded them. Parker, Everly, and Kade were front and center. Her future brothers-in-law each gave her a hug and a kiss on her cheek. “Welcome to the family,” Parker said. “You’re gonna get tired of seeing his ugly mug every day, Skylar,” Kade said. “Run away with me.”

In the small town of Marsville, the Church brothers and their family run a tight ship. Kade has been a member of the Army Delta Force. He is out of town for the most part but when he comes home he loves his family and has many friends. Parker is the youngest. He is also Chief of the Fire Department. He and his little girl, Everly live in the family home their parents left them with Tristan. Parker is artistic and earns a hefty wage selling his paintings. Tristan is the Chief of Police. Skylar Morgan has recently moved to town accepting the job of County Sheriff. They had met a year earlier when she had come to town applying for the job. Clearly taken with each other she left the next morning although her thoughts were all about him, she knew should she be offered the position, she would never be able to continue any sort of relationship with him.
Owens' story begins as a romantic comedy. At first I wasn’t certain where it was headed. Truly enjoyable but not the suspense I had gathered from the synopsis. As the plot explored more facts about her prior detective position in Florida things became clearer.
In HIs Protection will be published on August 23, 2022 by Carina Press of HarperCollins. It was a terrific read and I am most appreciative of their allowing me to read and review Sandra Owens last novel via NetGalley. It is a terrific K-9 Romantic Suspense with feature character Fuzz as our canine hero. Do pick this one up from the library or your local bookstore. This is the first in a new series for Owens, K-9 Defenders. Looking forward to the next due out in the fall. Enjoy!

In His Protection is #1 in another AWESOME, AMAZING Sandra Owens series. K-9 Defenders. I received an advanced copy from Netgalley. It releases August 24 and is a DEFINITE can't miss! Add to your MUST read end of Summer reading. Or anytime. Just read it. I was cracking up at the very first page.
I LOVED Tristan Church. He's my new book boyfriend. Oldest of the Church brother's. I absolutely LOVED the Church brother's relationship. I already can't wait for Kade and Parker's stories. I loved how Tristan and Kade. Especially Tristan, helps single Dad, Parker, raise his daughter, Pickle loving Everly. I also loved Skye's relationship with Everly. Everly was a doll. I loved Skylar 'Skye.' I thought she and Tristan were perfect for each other and kept rooting for them. And telling her to give him a chance. He's a sweetheart. Nothing like your prick of an ex. I love how much her fellow Cops respected her so much.
I loved that Parker and Tristan had a Down Syndrome, Manny, Andrew for Everly, who also an amazing cook.
Tristan's, German Shepherd, Fuzz and Everly's cat, Jellybean were adorable and had me in stitches with their antics.
Like I said, this is a must read. Another AMAZING book by Sandra Owens.

I love the combination of a RomCom beginning while the author starts to unveil who the characters are and their backgrounds, and then around 40% suspense is woven in too.

Sheriff Skye and Chief Tristan have a shared secret, they had a no last names one night stand when she was in town interviewing for the Sheriff’s position. She is shocked when she learns the sexy man is the Chief of Police due to a frustrating past relationship with a police officer.

After a year of keeping her walls up, the two of them are tasked with a project that Tristan uses to spend time with her to slowly woo her to give him a chance. A sexy man who gives her tingles who has a loyal and brave K-9 partner, Fuzz, and Skye’s resistance is futile.

The suspenseful portion of the storyline is both entertaining and interesting. It serves to bring Skye out of her self imposed shell. She hasn’t made much effort getting to know many people in her new town fearing she wouldn’t be accepted and she wouldn’t be staying long. Tristan shows how longing and supportive he is, and his protective streak is fully engaged.

I enjoyed Tristan’s brothers, Parker and Kade, and look forward to their books.

I received a free ARC from the author and NetGalley; and I am voluntarily leaving an unbiased review.

This is book one of a new series, K-9 DEFENDERS, written by Sandra Owens. I loved the storyline and characters of this world she has created. It's a enemies-to-lovers (?), small-town, fun but serious, romance. Although this is an excellent standalone, I absolutely can't wait for the brother's stories!! Especially Parker's. I really want to know more about him and Everly, his adorably sweet daughter.

I changed my mind several times regarding who was after Skye. Great suspense. Tristan made my heart thump. He's so wise and patient. He's the oldest brother who cared for this two younger brothers. It completely pulled at my heart. My heart actually physically ached for him throughout, until it didn't. I liked Skye. She just had major trust issues. Loved their dialog. It felt so real. Their HEA made me melt.

I can't not mention the quirky character's Miss Mabel and Earl. The way Tristan handled those two made me laugh as well as warmed my heart. This was a suspenseful but warm romance.

Sandra Owens remains a favorite author of mine. I not only read her books, I listen to them. I can't wait to pick this up as an audiobook as well! So worth your time and money.

Thank you NetGally and Carina Press for the ARC of this book. This is my voluntary and honest review.
