With spring just around the corner, all Marielle can think about is her upcoming wedding—that is, until she’s rudely awakened from her daydreaming by the shadows of doubt and intrigue creeping into her life. It all starts when she meets a mysterious gentleman during a kerfuffle involving the navy in the middle of the city, and her consternation compounds from there when she finds out that Simeon has been arrested on suspicion of leaking state secrets. Something is afoot, and Marielle is determined to find out what in order to clear her husband-to-be’s name!
I'm not entirely sure what it was about this volume that felt kind of boring. It felt like a very old used trope was the focus of this one. Maybe I'm just getting tired of forced separation scenarios, they just are starting to feel very old been there done that. This latest round happening in the middle of wedding preparations feels distracting to the interesting relationship building aspects of the two families. It's not the worst, it just feels a little dull. I hope the next one is better.
I got a bit tired of Marielle worrying about Simeon in this volume. But I keep thinking of Marielle as being a true crime junkie and this volume seems to introduce an actual murder mystery!
Marielle and Simeon's mutual enthusiastic affection for one another is adorable.
