NEW COVER - SAME AWARD-WINNING NOVEL

The Truth is raw, dark, and steamy. - DF Kennedy

An emotional and dramatic novel that achieves the difficult task of blending themes of trauma, healing, and romantic love.- Kirkus Review

The Truth is a romantic thriller that is tragic, terrifying, and bloody brilliant! This is what happens when THE TRUTH is in the fiction.

Whose truth is the lie? Stay up all night reading this psychological thriller. This page-turner is emotional and dramatic, and unputdownable.

The Truth has a cost and it’s evaded Dahlia her entire adult life. Dahlia believed she had the facts of her traumatic upbringing when she wrote and published her best-selling novel under a pen name, revealing details many would prefer to stay buried. Believing she is protected under anonymity; she returns to London not expecting the past to walk right up and slap her in the face. Not literally, but a slap would be less painful than the punch to her gut she feels for the man standing before her—Roland Hughes.

Even if she can forgive him for the past, can she forgive shining a national spotlight on her real identity and the pandora’s box their reconnection has opened?

For the trappings of all her success—her new life and vast fortune, Dahlia is shocked she cannot buy her way out of the past. Instead, when her need for invisibility and control is shaken, she must travel back to her hometown to confront her estranged relationship with her mother. Dahlia quickly learns she knows nothing and is not prepared to face the demons that begin digging their way out from the rubble of her past. What follows are family fallouts and death threats. If The Truth indeed has a cost, the question is, who will pay it?

A psychodrama of trauma, healing, and romance, The Truth will take you on an intense journey of twists and turns that will keep you up late at night and longing for more.

I loved this read. Read in one night. Couldn’t put it down. The best quote was “I will cut out these tear ducks once I have this baby” clever line given what transpired. The ending is a true cliff hanger so I cannot wait to read book two… The Whole Truth.

I literally was hooked from the first line to the last. I loved this book. I actually felt the emotional rollercoaster the characters were on. This is a must read. Dahlia is a fierce, warrior woman and at the same time can be vulnerable. I stayed up late to finish the book. I can't wait to read the next book. Great writing.

This is an exceptional story that I recommend to all fans of books that are based on true stories, psychological thrillers, and even romantic suspense. The author has a strong expressive voice that shines through in her writing and words. I couldn't put this book down. The release of Dahlia Frost’s controversial novel during the pandemic allows her identity to remain concealed behind the pseudonym, Frances Slater. After measures and lockdowns begin to ease, Dahlia’s identity is revealed. Family fallouts and death threats follow. Dahlia is forced to confront her estranged relationship with her mother and her stormy breakup with Roland, her ex-boyfriend and movie star, after he comes back into her life.

I was filled with a feeling of unease as Dahlia tries to establish the source of the threats. The plot moves along at a swift pace, providing a gripping string of events. It features many other electrifying scenes including a terrifying kidnapping incident in which Dahlia comes face to face with one of the criminals behind the threats. What follows is an incredible story that one can barely believe is true. It is filled with twists and turns and so much psychological drama that readers will be immersed in its entirety until the very last page and then wish there were more. Looking forward to the next book in the series, The Whole Truth.

Author, D F Kennedy does a wonderful job of creating detailed and life-like characters with incredible emotional depth. Told from from the character, Dahlia’s perspective, the story candidly explores her deepest thoughts and distressed emotions. Her past encounters with emotional, physical, and sexual abuse are described with sensitivity. Dahlia also grows throughout the story, consistently battling emotional turmoil that she bravely faces and therefore gradually heals from her past. Secondary characters are well-rounded and add stimulating and memorable depth to the story. Dahlia’s mother and stepfather allow the work to explore important themes in the novel such as the horrors, pain and sadness of child neglect and abuse. Her friends progress and enhance the novel as well. This is an incredible story and I highly recommend The Truth. Can't wait to read the next book in the series.

When is a memoir not a memoir? When it's The Truth: A Semi-Autobiographical Novel of Love, Betrayal, Redemption, and Revenge (So Help Me God Series) by DF Kennedy, a riveting, romantic work of fiction inspired by actual experiences in the author’s life. The emotions felt by both the protagonist and the reader - if the reader is a victim of child sexual abuse - are very real. The result is a novel that stuns with its emotional and psychological credibility. The protagonist, Dahlia, has taken years to come to grips with what happened to her, and her mother, as a child. Her decision to write a tell-all memoir under a pseudonym has propelled her to the top of the best sellers list, and unexpectedly, back into the arms of her greatest love, Roland Hughes, now a famous actor. Unfortunately, celebrity publicity and social media make it impossible to keep Dahlia’s true identity a secret. The lovers’ exciting reunion turns frightening for Dahlia as she tries to ignore dangerous threats that turn into a kidnapping by a most unexpected adversary. As tension mounts with every turn of the page, readers find themselves racing to a thrilling conclusion.

Throughout this novel, which is written in memoir style, fans of memoirs will constantly find themselves wondering just how much of this story is fiction. DF Kennedy’s style is an excellent blend of fact and fiction. She has a great command of the language, whether she is capturing the protagonist’s reflections on her past and present, revealing characters through dialogue, or propelling the plot forward through description. Put another way, aspiring memoir writers would do well to read The Truth as a way of learning how to write a memoir as if it were fiction. Mastering that art would make those memoirs that rely overly much on straight narration so much more enjoyable!
