This is a brilliant book! The book gives you an insight on what the Queen herself was doing whilst the citizens were revolting against the palace. The Queen wanted a basic life and I think the citizens thought that because all of the money that was being spent. It was assumed that it was all spent for her own luxury and benefit. However she was building a simple life with the money she had - so she could hide from the public eye. This book perfectly portrays this message. Marie was very artistic and in todays time that would be a blessing. She didn’t do it to impress other people but because interior design was one of her hobbies. She had fun doing it and at a young age she wanted to do what she loved. The king didn't want her to be part of the courtiers so she had to occupy herself in another way. It was also for the best interest of her children to not be in the public view. This book tells you about her private life and opens up a new perspective of the French Revolution. Highly recommend if you find interest in this area of history and would like a new perspective on it all. It perfectly points out the private life of this historical figure and suggests that the citizens assumed a lot as they didn't know much about how the Queen lived.
