Can Jessica James make it through the hunter exam in one piece? Someone stole Jess’s memories and she’s pretty damn sure it was her mother because no one else but a night witch could mess with someone’s head like that.
She can’t remember anything before getting left on the ranch with Doc either and for the first time, Jess understands how much that should bother her, but it doesn’t.
Not really.
Because both of her parents abandoned her.
Now a sickness has taken hold of her body which should be damn near impossible considering she’s both a witch and a hunter with blood ties to Lilith, but no one can deny that she’s a lot weaker than she used to be.
Not even Jess can ignore it anymore.
She just needs to make it through the exam in one piece so she can get her hunter’s license - which isn’t as easy as that asshole tiger had made it sound. Then she can worry about everything else.
But the Council of Paranormals doesn’t want someone as dangerous as Jessica James to succeed and they’ll do anything to stop her.
Jess is still trying to uncover the secrets locked inside her, and she’s slowly getting weaker as she does. But still a bada$$. I wish this had a slight recap or reminder at the beginning, because it jumped back in (probably where it last left off) and I was a bit lost for a while with the council certification and whatever else was scheduled. There’s a lot of crossover in this book with others from the paranormal world (especially Silverlake Shifters) and I don’t know if you’ll get as much out of some of the scenes without having read it first. Still fun, but way funnier knowing the characters that are mentioned. I feel like this one had too much religion involved with it though. There’s a lot of heaven and hell and the creator and divine rules etc in the world building which isn’t in the other paranormal worlds. Which makes sense as this centres around demons and the devil, but it did bog it down a little in places. I freaking loved the evil seductress she turns into with magic overload though, and a pinning Lucifer. Those two are hardcore and it’s lucky I’m a little obsessed with their pairing since this was the majority of the book. The interplay between these guys is what makes everything work. The found family element is just an added bonus.
Wow! It’s been awhile since we had the last Jessica “Jess” James book but I was able to jump right into this one. There are so many revelations in this and they will blow your mind. I’ve always loved the character of Jessica as she has been a side character quite frequently and her own series has been amazing and keeps getting more insane and wonderful. Filled with suspense and action. But Lucifer and her are the star of the story. Lucifer’s character will have your heart beating overtime. Oh the things the devil does, sigh. But this isn’t the end there is more to come and I am so glad it isn’t over yet.
I can not believe it took me this long to get to this book. It was everything I had hoped for and am so so glad Jessica’s story is not done. I love all of the pantheons featured and the side characters. This is a such a vibrant world I am excited for my reread.
Literally had me giggling, kicking my feet, twirling my hair (actually facial jewelry), and having to take breaks to do other stuff because of how good this book was (and particular scenes). My cats glared at me m a n y times because I was disturbing their naps. Just *muffled screams* so good 😩😩😩 Love me some devoted romance
Jess is finally closer to learning wgo and what she is and with more mystery added in. Lucifer and her relationship is getting closer and this book will leave you needing to know more.
It felt like we were waiting forever for this book and the wait was so worth it! It's fun seeing Jess and Lucifer's relationship develop more as well as finding out more about Jess' background.
I loved the book. The story is great, I absolutely adore the characters and I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book. Unfortunately, there’s no release date announced yet.
