Alta Hensley is a NYT & USA Today bestselling author of dark romance where the villain always gets the happily ever after.

Twisted, clever, and occasionally unhinged, her books deliver morally gray anti-heroes, sharp-tongued heroines, and happily ever afters that taste even sweeter after a little ruin. With a signature blend of grit, wit, and heat, Alta’s stories prove one thing: Villains deserve love too.

Alta lives on the foggy coast of Oregon with her husband, two daughters, and a pair of dogs who think they’re in charge. When she’s not writing redemption for the irredeemable, she’s walking the coastline or sipping craft beer in eccentric little bars that feel like they belong in her books.

Dangerous Notes introduces us to Atlas and Valentina, art thief’s who compete with each other and try to sabotage each other’s plans. This couple is combustible when together and deviant when apart, their attraction is off the charts, powerful and clearly mutual.
The Whitney is the backdrop for this story and it is the perfect setting. The activity takes place mostly on the rooftop or on the coveted 13th floor, it’s elegance and ambiance is either good or bad, depending who is looking at it, but it exudes wealth in abundance.
Alta and Livia are spectacular writers in their own right but when they team up together sensational things happen on the pages of their story.

This is part of a series and I recommend that you read the first volume first for the best enjoyment, though this story is pretty standalone there are bits that will be more clear if you have the previous books like I did. This book’s Trope is Enemies to Lovers and this particular trope is my favourite. There is explosive chemistry between the main characters and Valentina and Atlas have a extremely hot 🔥 🔥 🔥 scene in the beginning part of story and it just gets better. Valentina and Atlas are both Thieves, who mostly steal art. Atlas Just steals Art and Valentina wants to compete with him and just steal Art too. There is a lot of Danger and things get a little dicey, but there is really nice HEA at the end.

CACOPHONY OF CHAOS

The story is the third in the Dark Pen Series. While this story could be read as a stand-alone, it reads much better in written order after the first two books. Characters from those stories have key and cameo appearances in this story and do play vital roles. Reading in written order allows the reader to understand the roles of those characters. Dangerous Notes will bring two master thieves together. They start competing against each other, intent on stealing the same items, and before long, it is a dangerous game of cat and mouse. The story is about Atlas Giannopoulos, son of Sebastian Rossi and Valentina Keys.

“To a bystander, we’d look like two lovers in desperate need to be alone. In reality, we are enemies in a war of power, wealth, and thievery, dancing in an underground full of thirsty people with the need for more. We are in the middle of a twisted tango between two art thieves in competition to be the best.”

The story’s plot will have two very competent thieves after the same artwork—when one wins, they leave a note for the other. Before you know it, there is another prized item they both want, but the other wins this round. They have a love-hate relationship but a level of respect for each other. But, there is no love amongst thieves, is there?

Atlas is offered a job by Jar Omar to retrieve items from his enemy’s place of business, a casino in Atlantic City, and Atlas turns down the job. Unfortunately, Jar Omar will then offer the job to Valentina Keys, and she is considering doing it—knowing that casinos are one of the best-guarded locations and that Frank Angelino is no one to mess with.

Valentina’s partner is at a cybercafé and overhears a conversation for a hit out against Atlas and Sebastian—Valentina tells Atlas, and he doesn’t take her seriously. When things go from a threat to life and death, it will have Valentina caught up in the chaos?

Valentina: You need to get out of here. The hit is planned for tonight. The assassin is here. At the gala.
Atlas: Valentina, you don’t need to worry about me. If someone wanted me dead, it would have happened by now. And trust me, many have tried and—”

The story is a fast-paced, action-packed, mystery, suspense, adventure tale with plenty of angst and even more passion. The chemistry between Atlas and Valentina oozes off the pages, and when they are in private, they can’t resist the attraction. Atlas dominants Valentina and while her brain says no, her body is screaming yes, more, please. The story has life and death danger, intense passion, power exchange, and erotic scenes.

Had trouble getting into the 1st half but, loved the 2nd half

First, I admit, I bought this book because of the cover model! I own several books (different authors) with Soj Manii (Instagram) on the cover. (You can also find him on TikTok under the name Fidelpipo.) Sadly, while the cover is phenomenal, I can't say the same about this story. Don't get me wrong, I love Alta Hensley (though I've not read Livia Grant before), and I've enjoyed many of Alta's books. And it's not that I didn't enjoy this one, it's just that I didn't enjoy it as much as Hensley's other books, especially in the beginning.

This story starts out slow and I really had trouble getting in to it in the beginning. I kept putting it down, reading (or doing) something else, then a few days later going back to it. It wasn't until around the 49% mark that it finally started holding my interest. Why? .....

First, it takes a bit before the two main characters actually have any face to face interaction and when they finally do, it still takes a bit more before they actually start having regular interactions. The first 40% of this book deals with each character individually after just one quick meet at the very beginning. The only interactions after that initial meet are notes left to each other in safes or hidden places after stealing something the other was also after. (Thus the title "Dangerous Notes"). So what we get is a lot of background on each as well as their current activities in the first 40%.

Regretably, what I thought most important about their backgrounds was not covered at all. We know they have a history from 5 years before and there was a one night stand, but we're not told anything else about it. We don't know how they met, what there connection was back then or what they were to each other, if anything. We don't know what led to the one night stand, or anything about that night nor how it ended and what happened after. I think if some of this had been covered in that first part, it would have held my interest more.

Thankfully, once these two start having face to face interactions, and especially after they're forced to leave the country together because of threats to their lives, things start getting interesting and exciting. The last half of the book was really good! So while I wasn't thrilled with the first half, I did love the second half.

With a lackluster first half, I can't in good conscience give this even 4 sars, so...3.5 stars.

Wow! Yet again these two powerhouse authors blew me away with the third book in this series! So many times my heart stopped and I couldn’t breathe. They take you on a wild ride of which you never want to end. While yes, this is a standalone, I highly recommend the first two books first so you can understand the dynamics of all the characters.

This time it’s about Atlas, a high class art thief and his beautiful rival Valentina. The banter between these two made me laugh and cry. Valentina definitely gives Atlas a run for his money in more ways than one. Can two people with the same goals, work together without stepping on each other’s toes? I loved Valentina because while she is a formidable adversary, has a soft side that compliments her. And Atlas? Holy hotness! My heart melted with how he treated her, never making her feel any less than an equal. Let’s also mention the sizzling chemistry between them. I swear my kindle almost caught on fire!

Another reason I enjoyed this so much is that you find out what happens with the other characters from this series. And it left me wanting for more! I can definitely see more adventures happening with all of them. Take a chance on this book and series. You will love it just as much as I did!

Dangerous Notes is a darkly alluring, deliciously thrilling and highly captivating page-turner that had me completely hooked from the very beginning.
The palpable sexual tension and explosive chemistry along with the constant push and pull between two amazingly built characters, playing a constantly evolving and increasingly dangerous game of cat and mouse, made this extremely well written and exceptionally well built story one heck of an exciting, steamy and incredibly entertaining read and had me absolutely spellbound from start to finish.
Believe me when I say that you really don’t want to cheat yourself out of this one.

I am absolutely loving this series, this is book three of the Dark Pen. The characters were unique, the author really done a brilliant job on how these characters interact. Atlas has joined his father learning the rope's of thievery. Valentina grew up in Boston doing small town jobs, she had bumped into Atlas then he moved to New York then she ended up moving. The banter that keeps going between them it's a love hate relationship. Now the games begins who will get the item first.

'Dangerous Notes' is the third book in Alta Hensley and Livia Grant's epic "Dangerous Pen" series and this one is as exciting as the previous two were. Of course, we're back at the Whitley Hotel and the thirteenth floor where we are introduced to Atlas Giannopoulos, art thief and illegitimate son of Sebastian Rossi who holds the title of being the best in the business before he retired. That, in itself, would be exciting. But then we meet Valentina Key, aka Tink McKloskey, raised on the streets of Boston by an alcoholic father and three deadbeat thugs for brothers. There's an implied history between these two back in the early days and one fateful shared night. Now they have chemistry so strong it repels each of them like two magnets with opposite charges.
Fast forward through the years and now they're competing for the same jobs. It's become a game of cat and mouse between them. I beat you and leave a cryptic note. You beat me and your cryptic note answers mine. Until an associate of Valentina's overhears a hit being put out on Atlas and Sebastian. The associate's thrilled. Valentina, not so much and tries to warn Atlas, then convince him what was said without having any luck. Now things are getting real and must combine forces. Can they make things work? You're going to love this storyline. Even though it is standalone, it's so much more fulfilling when you read them as the authors intended to get all the nuances and idiosyncrasies the authors have gone to the trouble of giving us. Not only that, but as we get updates on our previous favorites, you'll know where they started from as well. I wouldn't steer you wrong. You're going to love it.

This is the 3rd book in this phenomenal series, and this is rivals Atlas and Valentina’s journey. These two are both art thief’s, who compete against each other and try to sabotage each other’s plans, and Valentina certainly gives Atlas a run for his money, and the chemistry between them is combustible. Can these two move on from enemies / lovers? These gifted authors’ have done an exceptional job in weaving this storyline. This story is dark, raw, gritty, powerful, and intense, with rivals, intrigue, twists, danger, suspense, humor, witty banter, emotions, tension, and love, which leads to an entertaining and thrilling page turner.

If you've ever seen The Thomas Crown Affair, this is much hotter and steamier than that is. Valentina has worked her way into the trenches of the expensive art world. She's also pulled off a lot of heists. But when they start becoming a problem for Atlas, their worlds get intertwined. Atlas and Valentina's history causes issues with their work. Atlas was handed his job by his father. Valentina is a bit jealous of how easily Atlas came into the money he has. She tries to get deeper into their world and becomes involved with more dangerous people. The sexual chemistry between these two is HOT. But does it interfere with their work? You will have to read the story to find out.

Started so good. The I’m going to one up you and then it started falling apart and ended so abruptly with no answers to the problems mentioned. We get one of her heists, but none of his. No planning of their heist. It would have been great to see those parts and then the sexual tension between them. We get really none of their history and why they had one night together before but then we’re emeries. Also they were arguing and then bam in bed together and he never wanted to be parted. What happened to her family? Why did his dad come in and save everything and change completely out of no where? Atlas wanted acceptance the when offered turned it down?

So many areas where it was felt open. No real action. Atlas is a great dirty talker in bed, but even the hotness seemed bland. It just needed more of something.

This book has all the angsty tension of the best enemies-to-lovers stories. The “prank” war between Valentina and Atlas kept me glued to the page to see what they’d dare next. And really, they dare quite a lot. There’s so much chemistry between these two, it absolutely crackles off the page. I felt a little singed by it just from reading. Perhaps the thing I loved best about this book are the series’ epilogues it contains. I adored having those peaks into their futures. Overall, it kind of kills me that I have to let go of these characters now.

Oh, this story was such a steamy read. Taunting is a good word to describe what Valentina and Atlas are doing to each other. They one up each other and it's absolutely awesome what they do, and the notes they leave each other to find. Loved the intensity of their dialogue and then almost a taming between them in London. Then after they calm down, then bam, their relationship explodes with even more powerful emotions. Loved their final note to each other.

Dangerous Notes - 5 Stars!

When I first went to read Atlas and Valentina’s story I was a little weary cause I usually tend to steer clear of any books considered enemies to lovers, not sure why, I just do. But then I read this line in the blurb:
If she wants my help, she’s going to have to get down on her knees and beg me for it.
That’s when I dove in and didn’t want to stop. I have read all Ms. Grant’s work before but not Ms. Hensley’s. After reading the Dark Pen series though, I’m excited to go back and read her backlist books. One of my favorite series this year!!

Enemies to lovers isn't one of my favorite tropes but these two authors made it work for me! I loved the whole story. The danger, the intrigue, the steamy hot scenes, it was all great. Valentina and Atlas are both art thieves and are always trying to one up each other. They had one night together years ago and never forget each other so that made the story so much better. I do suggest that you read the previous books in this little series so you'll understand the dynamics. Well written and mind boggling, this book kept me engrossed in it!

I liked Atlas and Valentina’s story. Both are thieves, but Valentina is trying to establish herself in that world. And Atlas is trying to prove himself again after one of his wearhouses holding several paintings burned. And dealing with his father on the side. There is chemistry between them that is undeniable. But when danger comes are they going to be able to work together? Good addition to the series.

Atlas and Valentina have a rivalry going against each other as to who is the best art thief around. Their notes left for each other where a stolen artwork should be was a great touch as was their sizzling sexual appeal for each other. The story was exciting, the risks each took was just kindling for the raging fire each had for the other. I enjoyed the story, the characters and over all, the very interesting storyline.

A bit of fun cat and mouse play, but then the tables turn. I have to say the vulnerability Valentina showed Atlas makes your heart twinge. I enjoyed how Atlas grew into a decent human being as the story progressed.
I love when these two authors collaborate because their stories and especially this series, is worth reading.

I totally love this series. Each book is a standalone but if you really want to understand the characters, it’s probably better to read the first two books. The series is that good where you’ll enjoy them all. This one is about two art thieves competing in the same area. Atlas and Valentina. The book is full of steam and also has some humor. A totally enjoyable quick read. I received an ARC and I’m leaving this review voluntarily.

This book was amazing! Atlas and Valentina are two art thieves who are very good at the game of one upping the other. They start out as enemies but soon find working together is so much more rewarding. These two are truly meant to be. Love all the banter and suspense. Once they move past some unfortunate trouble you see how right they are. Love the way this series ends.

This is a dark billionaire romance. It is the third book in the Dark Pen Series but can be read as a standalone. However I have read all the book in this series and they are so very good. You don't want to miss them. This is a dark book and will contain triggers for some readers. You will want to heed the warnings in the beginning of the book.
This is the story of Atlas and Valentina. They are both in the same business. The business of stealing. He steals only art and he isn't having it when Valentina wants to go form stealing different things to only stealing art. He isn't about to let that happen. These two will do anything in their power to make the other fail at what they are doing. They are after all in competition to be the first one to make the art disappear. They also though are fire together and when you are the King of what you do you just might need a queen you never saw coming. If you have read the other books you know what happens at The Whitney on the thirteenth floor and I loved being back there on the rooftop too!! This book was great and kept me on my toes. This is a book that will heat up your kindle and have you on the edge of you seat with the twists and turns. I loved every single second of this book. I am loving this series and reading Alta Hensley and Livia Grant writing together is just pure magic. I hope there are more books to come in this series.

The story wasn’t bad. It sounded really good when I read the description, but it just didn’t live up to my expectations. The writing was fine, the characters were interesting, but there were a few times we didn’t get enough information and after the initial heist there wasn’t a lot of action outside of the steamy times.

It wasn’t bad by any means, and there were not a lot of flaws in the overall story, but it didn’t keep my interest or my attention. I kept finding myself distracted and doing other things, before coming back to the story to try again.

Maybe it just wasn’t for me, but others might love it.

5 ⭐️s= Perfect story, exciting, engrossing, well developed complex characters, solid plot with few to no holes, descriptive environments and place settings, great mystery elements, realistic dialogue, believable reactions and behaviors, loved this story so much I’d buy it.

4 ⭐️s= Great story, highly entertaining and enjoyable, exciting storyline, well developed characters and settings, a few discrepancies but nothing that can’t be overlooked. Believable actions and reactions, realistic dialogue, a book I would consider buying.

3 ⭐️s= Good but not great story, noticeable discrepancies, grammatical and or spelling errors, undeveloped characters or unbelievable behaviors but still readable. Nothing majorly wrong with the story, just not interesting enough for me to continue. Would not buy the book.

2 ⭐️s= Not offended by the story, but not interested enough to finish. Unbelievable characters, poor writing, many mistakes, big holes or discrepancies, many spelling or grammatical errors, characters not believable, unlikeable or TSTL.

1 ⭐️= Offensive, extremely poor writing, horrible characters, victimization, gaslighting, blatant abuse, unnecessary violence, child endangerment, or any other highly objectionable behaviors by Main characters. Would never buy this book, and do not recommend it to anyone.
