Finally, he’s found his perfect man. Will he be able to keep him?
Beck Thompson is out and proud. He has a job he loves and friends he considers his family. Okay, he doesn’t have a boyfriend, but chances are slim he’ll find the man who’ll accept all of him, his past and his tattoos. He’s happy. Sort of. Until he sees the perfect man…with the same woman hanging on his arm every night. Damn. Munro Sylvester has put every aspect of his life on hold to make his business a success. And he’s done it. But he’s never been true to himself. One look at the gorgeous, colourful man changes everything. He knows he has to make the first move, but he may risk losing everything he’s worked so hard for. Can Beck trust his heart that Munro is the one for him? Is Munro brave enough to come out and fight for their happily ever after? Beck has a tattooed bartender who has never had any luck with love, a hard-working gym owner who’s never said “I’m gay” out loud, instant attraction, and well-meaning, meddling friends.
It is the fourth book in the BAR 28 series, a MM contemporary series. Each book can be read as a stand-alone, but you’ll enjoy them best by reading them in order. This series is based in the UK.
Hiding behind a quiet unassuming facade J J reads and writes hot sexy stories. Stories of men loving men as well as women loving men. What would the neighbors think!!
As long as the men are hot alpha's and the women are strong in their own right then they have a place in J J's books.
JJ also has a kinkier side and writes under the name of AG Silver. So, make sure you look out for those books too.
I have absolutely loved the previous books in this series and was so glad to be back at BAR 28.
Beck and Munro have watched and wanted each other for 6 months and once they finally introduce themselves sparks fly like no one could have predicted. They’re smoking hot from day 1. Beck is unapologetically out (as he well deserves to be) while Munro (by his own admission) is so far in the closet he may as well be having tea with Mr. Tumnus which Beck doesn’t realize at first and it threatens to separate them as Beck refuses to be anyone’s secret. There’s a heavy dose of instalove here but there’s also a heavy dose of realism to it as well as it’s not all sunshine and they have to work hard for their HEA. We have one closeted MC, work issues and major insecurities on both sides to work through to get to the other side. The one big thing that bothered me was the main focus of tension between the two (and boy do they cause some problems!) just all of a sudden disappears from the story after dropping a massive bomb in their laps only to be resolved in literally 2 sentences. After all the trouble caused I found it wholly unsatisfying. If not for that I would have happily given this book a full 5 stars. There’s major sweetness, high steam, great supportive side characters (it’s so great seeing our fellow BAR 28 colleagues!) and a satisfying HEA. All of those add up to a satisfying read for me. Peter and Lucie can go suck eggs! I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
For months now a stranger watches Beck while working. He’s got a woman hanging around him, why do his eyes always looking for Beck. Well, Beck let him, love isn’t for him, he never found one, they always leave.
Munro made it in life, his business doing more than great, only he’s holding back on himself. He’s in the closet and is afraid to come out. Seeing the beautiful tattooed man makes him yearn. He has to try his luck and approach him to give his number. Disappointment turns in when Back doesn’t call him.
A sweet story, of two guys who loved hard. A nice story is woven around both men, separately and together, nicely layered, there’s more than you could guess.
Oh let me think, what do we have besides some awesome friends, family, and business relations… ah a jealous friend ugh! I could do without the drama. Overall a nicely written story, with steam, hurt, committed friends, and a hea!
Super sweet. I'm so glad Beck got such an amazing HEA. To be honest, I thought he was going to end up with Jonah so this was a big surprise! A good one too because that means Jonah will get his own book at some point. I loved catching up with the Bar 28 guys. They are such a tight knit family. Kudos to Bruno for warning Munro what would happen with the guys if he hurt Beck. These men circle the wagons when one of them is in need and I just adore them all. Found family at its finest.
The romance between Beck and Munro was definitely sweet with a bit of angst mixed in. I really liked how Beck made it clear that he was who he was and was not going to change, nor go back into the closet for anyone. I'm happy the man at least knew his worth in that respect. I also liked how Munro took the time to reflect on himself and decide whether or not he wanted to come out not just for Beck, but for himself.
I was not a huge fan of the dramatic ex friend of Munro plot line. I could see her stirring trouble from a mile away and wanted that girl GONE ASAP! What a whackadoodle. Thankfully Munro and Beck were close enough and had a bond of trust that it didn't do any true damage to their relationship or I think I would have hated her more. I'm hoping beyond hope that the next book is Jonah's because the little glimpse of his possible love was enough for me to so be ready for his HEA story!
“Munro is my person. My love. My life. My forever.”-Beck
Books that basically have their HEA wrapped up at 35% scare me. It’s like a doom cloud hanging over the rest of the book, just waiting to drop something bad on our MCs. This one read like quite the roller coaster of events that seemed to make both men insecure at times. Thankfully, the love they cultivated shines through and made this book quite delightful.
Munro sure does let Lucie, his “friend,”take the blame for his actions in the beginning. He could have easily told her to stop pawing all over him. Oh, it was Lucie’s fault you just HAD to go to Bar 28 after you ditched Beck for the night? Stop the blame train and take some responsibility, man! He also acts like he cancelled his date with Beck to really examine what coming out would mean to his business. No. He cancelled that date because his friend called and Munro felt like he couldn’t say no to his friend without it being suspicious. Again, no accountability for his own actions. He allows himself to be manipulated by Lucie time and time again. It was very frustrating.
HOWEVER. I really liked Munro after he decided to go all in with Beck and come out. I loved their relationship. While both could be slightly prickly at times, they were quick to get back to one another and reaffirm their devotion. There were several different story arcs explored here and I felt like Munro and Beck just grew together beauty in each one. It didn’t hurt that they couldn’t keep their hands off each other and they had explosive chemistry between the sheets. (There were many, many…many showers to be had.)
We get to catch up with all of our favorite couples and even meet a new character, Haydn. I really enjoyed this book, even when Munro was frustrating me. I can’t wait to visit Bar 28 again in the future.
*I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews and this is my honest opinion.
-------
I always wondered what would happen in Beck's life, as he deserved to have a wonderful relationship and it did not fail. Munro arrived with all his courage, because it takes courage to step out of his comfort zone and risk everything at the risk of losing everything.
I loved these two because despite the obstacles, they overcame everything to be together, follow their momentum and build their dream, their life together.
The only downside is the narcissistic and toxic so-called friend. Always wondered why women always had such a harmful role in male love stories. A bit too easy and dichotomous for me. But maybe I only see this from the end of my telescope because it seems incomprehensible to me to operate in this way.
It doesn't matter, the most interesting thing being that Beck finally has his happy ending.
All that's missing is the story of Jonas and Haydn and we'll come full circle ;-)
Sweet and very steamy M/M romance The Prologue starts six months earlier to set the stage for the romance between Beck and Munro. Beck is an out-and-proud gay man working at Bar 28. He’s covered in tattoos and intrigues Munro who comes with his work buddies to relax but more importantly, deep in the closet. One of the “work buddies” is a woman named Lucie who has been after Munro for years and years. Her jealousy will play a bitter part to this great gay couple. Thing is Munro is a very successful business man who runs several popular workout gyms and Munro is afraid if he tells Beck how he feels, it will impact his business; Munro would have to come out of the proverbial closet. There will be lots of conflicts that our couple will need to clear away before they get to their HEA. This was a very explicit gay romance. Munro and Beck fall in love by 50% of the book so the reader is left wondering when the next shoe will drop. Lucie plays her games several times but there are other “inconveniences” that occur that disturb our sweet couple. Beck’ attitude being one of those inconveniences; he’s been mistreated so many times in the past. Can he really believe this perfect guy really likes HIM? I truly enjoyed this second book in the series that I have read. Well-written and edited. Lots of steam. Just the right number of insecurities. Wonderful ending with a few surprises. I volunteered to review an ARC of this book through Gay Romance Reviews.
RTC but this was super sweet and steamy which I always enjoy. But sadly I had such a hard time conmecting to this book, so it was harder for me to enjoy the book as much as I wanted to.
Also, this is probably the pettiest complain ever and I didn’t base my rating on this I swear, but I didn’t like how Beck said that he’s really tattooed because tattoos don’t hurt. I read this book the day after getting the inside of my elbow tattooed and I could barely hold my kindle to read the book due to how much it hurt, so I just don’t agree with that statement haha
But, except for that statement, this book was just so sweet and it was really lovely to read and I wish that I enjoyed it more than I did.
I received an arc of this book and this is my honest opinion
I love the storyline! I love the little bit of angst included in the love story of Munro and Beck!
Although I find the sequence of events a little bit fast, I love all the feelings happening between Munro and Beck. Munro, a successful businessman with a reputation to uphold thus being closeted. Beck, a sweet and tattooed bartender, who is looking for his person. Surrounded by his friends who have found their life partners, he longs for his own.
Being wary of casual hookups, Beck doesn't take up Munro's invitation to call him. But after several visits to the bar where he works, Beck finally thought one night couldn't hurt, right? Wrong! One night is not enough, either for Beck or Munro.
Too fast? Maybe. But maybe there are just people who are lucky enough to find that special person for him and just go for it. Munro realized that and amidst all his business reputation, he finally decided that Beck is worth it all.
Thank you Ms. J.J. Harper for this series. I am looking forward to more.
I’ve loved Beck through this series and was really excited for his story. Due to a very difficult background, Beck ever expects anyone to stick around. He has his family at Bar 28, but he’s never found the one for him. He’s content with his job and his life, but as his friends start pairing off, he also notices how alone he is. Munro has spent a decade building his fitness brand and business, and has all the success he’s always dreamed of. But no matter how much he makes, it’s not enough to fill the void in his life. He’s given up a love life for his success, but it’s not enough for him anymore. Beck and Munro don’t have an easy road. There’s outsiders causing issues, coming out struggles, and both men worried about their worthiness. But these two are determined to make it work, because they know they’ve found the one. It was so good to see all the guys from Bar 28 again! These two were sexy, sweet, and beautifully supportive of each other.
Fitness Gym Owner Munro notices hot Bartender Beck and its lust at first sight which has him re-thinking his closeted status. This is low angst, insta-love, soap opera-ish, sex-filled romance. Initially, I was not a fan of Munro but he eventually stepped up and out for the relationship he wanted. I did like Munro’s parents, the appearance of previous characters from this series, and even the crazy antagonist “witch”, all of which added just the right amount of drama to the tale. Overall, a sweet, sexy read. Rating: 3.5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Next up should be Jonas & Haydn’s story?!?
Obligatory admittance that I haven’t read any of the other Bar 28 books, and unfortunately I won’t be looking for them after reading Beck. The story had a lot of potential and I was looking forward to reading about this gorgeous sounding man finding his ‘person’. But I have to be honest and admit that I never really felt that Munro deserved Beck. The whole manner in which he handled the Lucie situation annoyed the heck out of me – especially later in the book when she ‘tricked’ him into taking her shopping. Like, after everything she did, why would he let that happen?
I found it easy to see which other characters in the book had previous stories and I would imagine for anyone who has read all of the Bar 28 books that it would be nice to catch up with them all.
Beck was an interesting character and I wish I could have seen all of the tattoos and especially the exhibition. That sounded really epic and the author did a very good job describing the whole thing and helping you visualise it. But my feelings about the book were soured by Munro to the extent that there were a couple of times where I really wish that Beck had thrown away his phone number for good and walked past Munro when he waited for him outside the bar!
The writing was solid, most of the characters were engaging and entertaining – I just wish Beck had found a love worthy of him!
HEA for Beck? Yes!!! I loved the chemistry between these two. Beck and Munro's attraction was undeniable and their chemistry was super explosive.
Beck's story really tugged at my heart-strings. Although he played it cool, it was obvious he was tired of the hook-ups and looked forward to really connecting with someone on more than a physical level. And Munro was that someone and try as he might to play it off as just physical attraction, he fell hard. I wasn't sold on Munro right away, but thankfully the author gave me enough insight into his inner turmoil and in time I came to appreciate his ways and admired his determination once he made up his mind about Beck.
Although this story is book 4 of the series, it can be read as standalone. I do recommend reading the previous books in the series, so the reader can get acquainted with Beck's chosen family and their men (plus their stories were great!). I enjoyed visiting with them and seeing how happy they were with their respective partners.
I love an insta-love story that still feels real and raw. And boy do these two manage that. They may have felt an instant connection but they are going to have to work for, trust each other, and lean on one another.
They are such a great couple. Both are strong and vulnerable in their own rights. And they need to trust themselves as much as they need to trust each other. It’s beautiful when they do, when they work through their issues and self-doubts and come out more confident, happy and stronger together.
I love this fiercely loyal group of friends. There is nothing they won’t do for each other. Through the good and the bad. And I love that Beck and Munro got their dreams and such a beautiful happy ending.

5 Shiny Stars What a fantastic read, I throughly enjoyed this book and devoured it in one sitting. I love Beck and was so excited he was getting his story told, so worth the wait and I love him more. I just want to hug him… Munro, gah! Love him and glad he finally made a move and never gave up on Beck, they were meant for each other and helped each out through their problems, both were sad in different ways but I’m glad it worked out some. The book was sweet, steamy and a bit angsty and I got mad a couple of times, dang Lucie… I may have teared up a few times, at least I cried happy tears in the end after I squealed, haha. A Must Recommended Read! I’m so looking forward to next book!
Simplistic and flat. What's Beck's problem? He thinks he's unlovable because he has numerous tattoos? And again, how can a bartender who got thrown out of home get money for full-body tattoos?! How? This s*it is expensive, people. It gets me every time. The other MC has hidden all his life and a "friend" figures him out in two seconds flat?! I just can't waste time on this...
This is book #4 in the Bar 28 series. This is the first book that I have read in this series and I was able to enjoy it without having first read the previous books in this series. Reading the others first would enhance the enjoyment while reading. This is the story of Munro Sylvester and Beck Thompson. Munro is a successful businessman. He owns gyms and has lots of endorsement deals. He is also firmly in the closet. While a woman he works with believes that they are dating and meant to be; Munro just goes with the flow. He has no reason to change the status quo until he locks eyes with the handsome tattooed bartender at Bar 28. Beck is a bartender and relationship gun shy. He desperately wants the love that his friends have found but he doesn't believe that he will ever be good enough for someone to want longtime. While Munro grew up with a loving and supportive family, Beck's was the complete opposite. He has made a new home with his found family. The two of them have chemistry for days. When they finally do get together, Beck refuses to be someone's dirty secret. He tells Munro to come back when he gets his life sorted out. That is just he catalyst Munro needs. He is willing to lose contracts and change his life for Beck. Not all of Munro's friends are happy about the change. One in particular continues to try and cause trouble between them throughout the book. The road to happiness is filled with a lot of ups and downs. Some of them are caused by Munro himself. For such a smart man, I found it very hard to believe that he once again fell for her bag of tricks at the very end. Other than that, I enjoyed this book. This is their story. It is well written and easy to read. It is a great insta love story.
I received an ARC and am giving my honest opinion.
I loved it. I didn't read the previous books but as usual there are already established couples from those previous books that appear and are actively interacting with the two main characters in very supportive ways.
Beck, who is working at Bar28 and Munro, who owns fitness studios Wellfit are the MCs in this instalment. Beck is out and proud, Munro isn't. That doesn't stop them though from being attracted to each other. It was really sweet to watch them get to know each other and work through the hick-ups of a new relationship. And then there is the "villain" Lucie, who works for Munro, is very into him but doesn't get the message that he just isn't into her at all.
I really enjoyed reading this book, couldn't put it down. One thing though that bugged me when reading it, and please don't get me wrong, I usually love sex, kinky sex, vanilla sex, but I found myself skimming the sex scenes in the second part of the book. Just wasn't in the mood for it at that moment. I was too invested and wanted to know what happens next in the storyline/plot. Every time there is a development Beck and Munro have sex afterwards. I was rolling my eyes, asking myself what happened to just cuddling and going to sleep. So if you enjoy lots of hanky panky, this is definitely the book for you. If you are looking to read a great story, read the book and skim at your discretion.
I have read and enjoyed all the books in the Bar 28 series and so I have been looking forward to reading Beck’s story and I just have to mention that the cover for this book is absolutely gorgeous and whenever Beck’s tattoos were discussed I had the imagery of the book’s cover model to draw on.
Beck was a lovely guy but with very low self esteem after his horrendous family threw him out when he was 15. He watched as all the guys he worked the bar with one by one found their person and he felt lonely. Monroe had noticed and watched Beck for months before introducing himself. He owned a few gyms in major cities, was a social media influencer, wore expensive clothes and drove a fancy car and Beck didn’t think he was worth Monroe’s time. Monroe though was hiding a huge secret, he was deep in the closet, even his best friends since school didn’t know.
This was a low angst love story with some hurdles for both men to overcome, lots, like lots of steamy scenes and lots of previously loved characters and some new ones and one extremely unlikeable one! Monroe’s parents were lovely.
As usual Jess Harper’s writing is so good and very descriptive. I particularly loved the way she described the scenes with Lizbeth and Beck’s beautiful body artwork, I could visualise the individual tattoos and hearing him describe their meaning was wonderful.
A fitting end to the Bar 28 series a story of chosen family with all the gorgeous guys finding their special person.
Beck works at Bar 28 with several of his friends who have fallen in love and are in committed relationships. He has not had much luck with love or even dating of late. When a good looking man that frequents the bar shows interest he is intrigued but not willing to even call when the guy sends, then gives him his number. Munro is a successful businessman who is not out but who finds himself looking across the bar at a man who he wants to be with and who he wonders whether there might be a reason to come out. Beck is out, tattooed and not likely to want to return to the closet. Munroe is willing to move forward and so starts their path toward their HEA so he starts the process of coming out personally and professionally. He still has to deal with the young woman who wants him and can't hear "not interested" in that way and Beck has to realize that he is good enough for them to last and that he will not be left. Both Beck and Munroe needed to change, adjust and grow to find their future together and the author does a good job of helping them navigate their challenges without a lot of angst and wind up in a good place. Together. 4.5 smiling stars. I finished this story with such a good feeling. I received an ARC from GRR for an honest review.
This was a wonderful story. What I enjoyed the most (I mean, aside from Munro and Beck and their chemistry) was the family the Bar 28 created. They had one another’s back and weren’t afraid to warn others about consequences if they hurt one of their own.
Beck is open. He is honest with who he is and isn’t afraid to be himself. He doesn’t hide. He comes with a past (who doesn’t, right?) and, for that reason, I feel he held himself back from love. Or, closed himself from it, not feeling he was worthy (he was/is).
We have Munro. A guy who is living a lie. He has created a life that looks perfect from the outside while on the inside, he is far from perfect, or honest. He is attracted to Beck, but it takes him a bit to finally acknowledge that to not only himself but others.
When these two finally “connect” you get one heck of a fun read.
I enjoyed this story from start to finish. Beck, Munro, and the supporting cast share a fabulous story. JJ Harper has created a great world with the Bar 28 family and friends. I think this story will be loved by any reader who is a fan oof MM romance, acceptance, and HEA/HFN.
This was a wonderful love story between Beck and Munro. You know Beck is the best kind of man who loves fiercely and is openly gay and at first is not happy at how closeted Munro is but you do sympathize with him with his fears of how coming out might affect his business and endorsements. The guys at the bar are Beck's family and you learn how horrible his own family was to him and how he left at age 18 and never looked back. Munro has wonderful parents who grow to love Beck too and make him a part of their family. I despised Lucie with her lies and manipulations and when she lured Munro into shopping at the most expensive baby shop and then spread lies on social media you wanted to slap her. One of the most poignant scenes was when Beck's brother visits him after not seeing him for years and finding out he also came out and was treated just as horribly as Beck and you were not sorry to learn they had died in a car accident. It was wonderful to see them begin to start a relationship and then there is the wedding and then the birth of their daughter and it was enjoyable.
I really love Beck and I am glad he found his HEA with Munro but the story was a bit too fast, too insta and too sweet sugary for me.
Beck is a great guy and loveable, he caved his place at the bar, has great friends and yes, a HEA is what he needs.
Munro is a case of deep closet and deeply attracted but doesn't know what to do.
For me the timeline sucks, from them finally doing something about their attraction to Munro coming out including a nearly break up and being in neverending bliss is just under one week.
I don't like that the book has hardly any female characters, gays do have female friends and while Lizzie is. shown as supportive and great she is too far outside the circle, I do hope so she come up again, she could be a great addition to the group. I am sad that the author uses the only other female one as spitful, at least she stays true to the character all the way through.
Just when I thought this series couldn't get any better J.J. Harper gave us Beck! Holy hell was this book was EVERYTHING......Beck and Bruno were made for each other, Bruno proved to be everything Beck had been searching for and never knew he needed....He was so damn sweet, he was patient, he was encouraging, and he was such a loving and willingly equal partner ❤️ Bruno....Gah!!! Such a gentle soul, Beck was just the man he's been waiting for his whole life but never had the courage to step out into the wide open, however with a loving Beck by his side he could do anything!!! This book truly proved to be so much more than romance, it had family, it had tons of heart, it had friends and it of course had sizzling chemistry 🔥 this book had a bit of drama however the road to a hard fought HEA was well worth it!!! I loved this book and I love this series, I 100% recommend!
* I received an ARC from GRR, this is my open and honest review *
This book was so sweet and super steamy!! Beck is an out and proud gay man working at Bar 28. He is looking for the right man who will accept all of him. All he wants is to be loved and accepted. Munro strolls into his bar with work friends and every night Beck is intrigued by him. Munro is a very successful business man he comes into Bar 28 with his friends from work every night. He is also very intrigued by Beck as well. Munro however is very deep in the closet. In order to tell Beck how he feels he has to come out of the closet and he is scared that will affect his business. This story is an amazing story about two men who develop a very intense and beautiful connection. I really loved this book so much!
I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews, and this is my honest review.
POV: 1st Person Dual POV
Standalone or series: Book 4 in the Bar 28 series
Would I recommend it: 5 stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ highly recommend!! 🤩
Absolutely love the bar 28 series been waiting for Beck's story from first meeting him in Gus and him and Munro together wow the chemistry between them it sizzles of the page it's so hot. Beck is special he's sweet, gorgeous but so lonely despite having amazing family at bar 28 around him he's fed up of not being enough for anyone they only see is tatoos that is until he meets Munro who's spent years building up is gym business no time for himself until he sees a certain bartender and can't look away he's smitten love how together despite a few set backs they are strong, loving and beautifully supportive of each other and how all the guys are there for them it's great to see can't wait for more. 💖💖
Beck is the fourth book in the BAR 28 series. Each book can be read as a stand-alone, but you’ll enjoy them best by reading them in order. I was eager to read Beck's story and was not disappointed. He has his Bar 28 family but really doesn't think he will ever find his forever person. Munro has spent years building his career but never showing his true self. How can he find real love if he stays hidden in the closet? These two strike sparks together right off the bat. I loved watching their relationship grow and become something neither one thought they would ever have. Of course there are bumps in the road along the way but they get their well deserved HEA. Great addition to the Bar 28 series.
I loved this book. Great world building and the characters were just wonderful. They felt very realistic with their own faults and insecurities. But they were so cute and sweet together. Beck is a gay and out bartender who's been hurt by bad relationships and family. He is attracted to Munro, but is insecure and feels that he would never want him- let alone the woman that is always at Munro's side when he comes to the bar. Munro is a successful business owner, but still in the closet as he's afraid coming out after all that time would lose him sponsors and members. But he couldn't get Beck out of his head and knew for the first time in his life he had to take a chance. I couldn't put this book down. I will definitely be reading more from this author. 5 stars.
I read this book because of the cover; JJ Harper and that photo, why wouldn't I?? I wasn't disappointed! The first book I've read in the Bar 28 series but I'll definitely be going back to catch up with the previous three books as soon as possible.
In the meantime I can't say how much I loved this book. Characters, story, secondary characters, pace and bounce, it all worked together to pull me through the pages in one sitting.
I have nothing bad to say about this book; I loved it and can't wait to read the rest of the series as I know they will be equally fantastic. I totally recommend this book for your kindle summer reading list today xx
