I'm a therapist and I am a big fan of Don Miguel Ruiz's book The Four Agreements. I was introduced to it by a social worker at the hospital were I was working and for years have been buying and gifting copies to family and friends as well as recommending it to clients. I won't be doing the same with this book. The book is split between what are presented as the words of Don Miguel Ruiz and the words of Mary Carroll Nelson. Although there are moments with lessons of wisdom and truth in this book there are also a lot of instances of weird cultish type theories/experiences in here. Typically I could understand and mostly agree and learn from the words of Don Miguel but most of Mary Carroll's stuff was just weird and not applicable to most readers experiences in my opinion. A discerning reader who can separate the two will benefit from much of the book, however overall why go through the trouble when there are plenty of great books of wisdom available without the inserts of cult-type weirdness. Disappointed.

A very dense, yet fantastic read! I really enjoy how Don Miguel Ruiz includes a lot of the history of his past in connection with Teotihuacán as well as the history of that special place in Mexico since the dawn of time. Synchronicity abound in this book!!!

this takes the original 4 Agreements and stretches out various concepts, delving a bit deeper with guided "nagual" understanding. What I also like with this book is that you can randomly open to any page and find something intriguing & uplifting.

I purchased this book to 'go beyond fear' as felt that it wasn't quite about that. Four Agreements, Mastery of Love were exactly about their titles. Like someone said"this book discredits his other work ". Sorry, but I am somewhat disappointed with this book😏

A great book for expanding one's mind. It is beneficial to have read previous books as this one is perhaps a bit more difficult to grasp.

Okay. A little too theoretical for my liking. I much preferred the far more practical, The Four Agreements.

"Beyond Fear: A Toltec Guide to Freedom and Joy" takes readers on a transformative journey into the spiritual depths of Toltec wisdom, offering insights that resonate deeply, especially for those familiar with the teachings of Carlos Castaneda. Drawing from ancient traditions, the book provides a compelling framework for understanding and overcoming the fears that inhibit true freedom and joy.

One of the most intriguing aspects of the book is its exploration of the idea that parasites feed off human emotions, particularly the roles of the judge and the victim. The author presents these parasites as entities that thrive on our judgments of others and our feelings of victimization. Whenever we find ourselves entrenched in these emotions, the book suggests that it is not just a personal struggle but a parasitic force feeding off our negativity. This concept adds a fascinating layer to the understanding of human behavior and emotional struggles, encouraging readers to view their internal battles through a new, more empowered lens.

The narrative is engaging, drawing readers into a world where these parasitic forces are not merely metaphors but real influences that can be overcome through awareness and spiritual discipline. The book effectively bridges the gap between ancient wisdom and contemporary spiritual practices, making it accessible yet profound.

While the book’s repetition of certain concepts might be seen as a slight drawback, it serves to reinforce the message that liberation from these emotional parasites requires consistent effort and vigilance. This repetition underscores the importance of the teachings, ensuring that the reader does not simply gloss over these vital lessons.

In conclusion, "Beyond Fear" is more than just a spiritual guide; it’s an invitation to reclaim personal power by recognizing and defeating the emotional parasites that feed off our negative emotions. This is a thought-provoking and enlightening read, particularly for those already attuned to Toltec teachings, and it offers substantial guidance for anyone on the path to spiritual freedom and joy.

This one displays all the classic symptoms and arguments of New Age BS such as: "Christ, Buddha (perhaps Mohammed, but iffy on that one) and I are saying the same thing", "a radical change on a cosmic scale is happening now (now=the past 60 years)", "I can heal myself of a heart attack better than a hospital can (but not in this place, the energy is off)", "for more information about my system, send me a fax at...", "looking for kundalini? have you seen our flying snake?"

Only a few nuggets and useful reminders scattered throughout the book, such as the importance of paying attention, taking inventory, and not getting lost in self-importance. You have to wade through a lot of verbal diarrhea and loaded language to get to them.

Ruiz writes in a way that is conversational much like the 4 agreements, but with more storytelling of the Toltec tribe's culture and their customs and beliefs, inclusing the angel of death that is always guiding us to let go of things in real time as we go through life. The last part has actionable practices in nature to help let go, rituals of sorts I have not (yet) tried. It's spiritually-forward and worth a listen (I listed to the audio-book) if you're in need to letting go of something you suspect you've held on to a little too long.

An incredible book that really expands the notion of what is reality. It also presents powerful tools to “Release your story” and purge pain with love.
Some of it may be far out for those who haven’t read the four agreements before (which I highly recommend)
To me reading the book is just the beginning..... now the work of implanting it’s tools and ideas into my life begins
Looking forward to it with great love and curiosity

If on becomes open for the "silent knowledge" one can really be transformed. It needs to sink in even tough sometimes its hard not to resist.. because its very spiritual stuff.. intuition based wisdom and so forth.. hard for the rational mind to wrap it´s logic around.. sometimes does not compute ;)

overall good and fun read!

I enjoyed many of the teachings in this book but the organization felt a bit scattered and the best bits of wisdom were excerpts from Ruiz himself. When it comes to spiritual teachings it is always more impactful when directly felt instead of intellectual learned. Still took away some good pointers for continuing to walk to spiritual path.

The Four Agreements and Mastery of Love are two of my favorite books but this one was incredibly disappointing. It doesn’t talk about fear and moving beyond it. It talks about a lot of Toltec history and concepts from the two previously mentioned books. On top of that, it is unorganized and repetitive. Very disappointed.

This is by far the best book I’ve ever read! It opened up my heart and soul and inspired me to go deep within myself and start acting on the love in my heart and the love for all! I will probably go back and read it again!

Don Miguel Ruiz brings the most simple yet challenging path toward freedom and joy.
I always absorb and appreciate his Toltec wisdom. His writing is straight forward and plainly stated. I love his parables and spirituality centered journeying.

Don Miguel you never fail me. Four Agreements is
Probably the number 1 most influential book of my life in regards to personal mastery and spirituality. This book is quite a few leagues above the four agreements in regards to spiritual content and language. Definitely will be a re-read for me. Loved the way it described God as being named “love” and being named “mother father god”. I want to look more into the ceremonial practices listed at the end of the book, and it has encouraged me to get a shamanic presence into my life. Oh it spoke on demons entering dreams when one is awaking hell on earth and I really related to that in regards to my struggles with dreams. 10/10
