3 only for Bastien Stars

 photo 9015270_zps9prdqrcw.gif

OMG The last part of this book just pissed me off. I was loving this book. Bastien was so charming. Then Terri pulls some coward ass bs towards the end and bam I am throwing my paperback across the room like a 3 year old in the middle of a melt down! I was so mad I almost 1 stared it out of spite, but I did really really love Bastien soooo. All 3 of my stars are for sexy Bastien. Terri just pissed me off. She was a total coward ass baby. That makes two heroines in a row now that have, towards the end of the book, jumped to the wrong conclusion. Then they both jumped planes leaving the heroes high and dry like cowards. In the last book Kate did the same thing. Two books in a row now where the heroine could have very easily asked one question and cleared everything up, but instead like a cowardly baby ran. And it's two books in a row now where after the heroes chased down the cowardly heroines and not only cleared things up but also tell them "I love you and marry me" to have the heroines turn around and say that they need time to think. And then take weeks, to think and still needing a push of someone coming and talking sense into them.

And all I have to say to that shit is this better not be the pattern of the series. I have a huge pet peeve with cowards and I just went through hell with a 20 book series filled with nothing but cowards from Susan Mallery that I didn't think I would survive!!!! I swear to God if this series pulls a Susan Mallery "Fools Gold series" and they all start doing the damn chicken dance being cowards, I am going to be soooo pissed. No strike that I am already pissed at this heroine and the last one. I am going to lose my shit. Please don't let this be a pattern! Below I leave a quote from the Terri's sister-n-law because I loved how she called her out on her cowardly ass bs!

"Everything you've told me about him tells me that. And here you are, hurting both him and yourself, for no good reason other than you're a coward. It takes courage to live, Terri. To really live. To follow your dreams, to love someone, to face each day. Agoraphobics are trapped in their homes because they are terrified of what might happen--but as long as they stay inside, they'll never know what could happen. You're an emotional agoraphobic. You've been one since Ian died, avoiding emotional entanglements to avoid getting hurt. Well, it's high time you rejoined the living, my girl, and stopped acting like you're the one in the cold hard grave. I bet Ian would give anything to be alive and in love, yet here you have it and you're throwing it away." -Sandi

Funny vampire fluff. Who could ask for more?
It's almost as good as a Cotton Candy Dance Party.

You know you want to be invited.

Our couple is Terri and Bastian. Terri is a professor at the University of Leeds in England. I may have gotten a bit excited over this because my hubs is from Leeds. And, some of her friends used Yorkshire slang, like when the husband called the wife "flower" as a term of endearment. My hubs used to use that one. Now, he's all American, calling me baby or babe. He picked it up from me. I call everyone babe. If I yell out, "hey babe?" in my house, the hubs, the kids, and even the dogs will look at me..

OMG!!! How much squee can possibly be in this pupper? And, he looks like my doggies when they were babies. I'm dying of cuteness!

Okay, sorry about that.
Anyway, this book was a series of hilarious disasters that our couple had to deal with. There were some really funny moments and a new great character who will probably get his romance book next. The big "misunderstanding" thing was pretty lame, but these kind of books require that moment of angst, so whatever. I just roll my eyes and move on. I know the happy ending is coming. I never sweat it.

Bastien’s story!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💙🤎💜❤️
Steam: 🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙
World building: 🌏🌍🌏🌎🌍
Character development: 😠☺️😋🥰😘
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Solo Narration

The heroine: Terri Lea Simpson - she is the cousin of Kate, who was marrying Lucern. Kate had requested that Terri be the maid of honor and that she would help plan the wedding, so she is arriving in New York two weeks early to help. Especially since Kate and Lucern are overwhelmed with planning a wedding in so short a time.

The Hero: Bastien Argeneau - He was a responsible man. He was the one who stepped up after his father’s death to run the Argeneau Enterprises. He went to New York to prepare for Lucern Argeneau and to work out of the companies New York offices in order to get away from his mother Marguerite’s matchmaking. Now with Lucern getting married, she had turned her madcap scheme’s on him and was determined to find him a mate. Bastien had been alone for so long, since Josephine, the human woman he had loved and lost. He doubted there would ever be another woman for him.

The Story: Terri was arriving early to help out with the wedding, but really couldn’t afford the price of a New York hotel room, so Kate asked Bastien to put her up in his penthouse while she was there. He agreed since he had five bedrooms and would hardly be there himself. She also asked that Bastien and Lucern pick up Terri at the airport. Bastien was interested in Terri, but had his heart broken by Josephine in his past and didn’t want to go there again.

There were some great characters in this book, like Lucern who is a bit stuck in the past and is a romance author, Vincent who is an actor that recently got the lead role in Dracula, the musical. Also Vincent is a biter, who feeds off live humans, which is something I didn’t know about before this book. Bastien himself, is a bit staid and proper and I really liked him. Kate’s boss Chris (C.K.) was hilarious as well, especially when he got together with Vincent.

This story was told in dual points of view via solo narration and was narrated by Charlotte Claremont. Charlotte has a great voice and is a terrific narrator. I rarely listen to books in solo narration, especially ones narrated by females, but I started this series a few years ago at like book 26 and have gone back to it over and over because I just love the Argeneau’s.

I love the backstory of how their ancestors in Atlantis thousands of years ago were so advanced, they came up with nano’s which they injected into the bloodstream and these nano’s keep them young and in top physical condition, but blood is needed to keep them alive and keep the nano’s working. They are immortals, not vampires, but you know what they say, if it quacks like a duck…

This fourth installment of the Argeneau series tells how Bastien gets together with his life mate Terri Simpson. He's the last of the four siblings to do so, both chronologically and in the recommended reading order; it's just a historical oddity now that the first four books were published in a different order (in terms of chronology #3 came out first, then #2, then #4--that's this one--and finally #1).

This, of course, means that Marguerite Argeneau will no longer play the role of the intervening mother; she'll have to be the intervening aunt or cousin or something else, but she's such a bright spot in each book I hope she'll continue to intervene. Lord knows these nice single vampires need that.

It's still comfort reading, and the whole series gets an extra half star from me because of Lynsay Sands's brilliant idea: scientists in Atlantis long ago developed self-replicating nanobots to inject into people to heal injuries and it turned out they did more than that--they heal diseases and vastly lengthen lifespans, and they're passed along to offspring. All they need to do their jobs is a bit of blood from time to time, or they'll use up the person's own blood.

Unfortunately, you really need to have read at least one of the previous books in the series to grasp what these characters are all about. Here you're just plunged into their everyday lifestyle and you learn what their needs, powers, and limitations are as they come up in the story, with no explanation of why it's like that until the very end. That's not the only reason, though, why my rating has dropped from four to three stars.

It's a personal thing, humor. And for me the humor has gone from laugh-out-loud in #3 to mildly amusing for the most part here in #4. Some of the other readers found the mishaps of planning an elaborate wedding much funnier than I did, and some of the truly comic moments had a serious undertone --I guess it's no spoiler that Chris, the bride's colleague and a character I really want to see more of, is in so many scenes because he has to be rushed to the hospital so often. Even so, Chris provides good comedy, unlike Bastien's cousin Vincent. Again, Vincent delighted quite a few readers, but I didn't care for him--he came across to me as a rather spoiled smart-ass, and a lot of his scenes were more irritating than funny.

And this is a paranormal romance, even if the paranormal part of it is basically science fiction (nanobots! feed them! but you don't know that till the end). So the happy ending is an absolute necessity for the reader, even if it comes as a surprise to the characters. And in this one our lovers, Bastien and Terri, immediately develop intense feelings for each other, which they express in many meticulously described sex scenes. The one that lasts 20 pages goes all the way in every sense, but most of the others end with comic interruptions. So if "steamy stuff" isn't for you, just skip through to a possible laugh.

The basic plot, then, is for the lovers to figure out if their instant lust is also instant love. To make that a novel instead of a very short story, we need a series of Romantic Misunderstandings. We certainly get them, and some of them are rather amusing. But we also get page after page of each lover's Romantic Uncertainty--you know, pulling the petals off the metaphoric dandelion, loves me, loves me not--and here I began to suspect the publisher required a longer word count than the author could easily muster.

Then Romantic Misunderstandings and Romantic Uncertainty deepen into Romantic Stupidity and even Romantic Cowardice, requiring the intervention of virtually all the other characters to make it possible for the climactic Romantic Scramble to happen (involving airports of course!) and yield the Happy Ending. Sorry, the stupid part just didn't ring true.

The writing style made for easy reading and I liked most of the characters (even when they were being stupid), so for me this book was better than just "okay"--I rather enjoyed it for the most part.

If Bastian was a dessert he would either be Devil’s food cake or Black Forest gateau, both mouth watering and sinfully tempting. He truly fits the definition of tall, dark, handsome, brooding and undead, out of the Argeneau siblings he was my favourite as he works far too hard and takes care of everyone but who takes care of Bastian?

I really felt for Bastian as he watches his siblings get paired up and he has been waiting for a very long time to meet that special person, Terri is perfect for him and she is no stranger to heartbreak herself. When Terri decides to fly to New York to help plan her cousin Kate’s wedding, she accepts an offer from Bastian to stay in his Penthouse as Bastian’s brother and Kate’s fiancé Lucian is staying with Kate. Kate’s friend and fellow book editor Chris and Bastian’s cousin Vincent also end up staying. This bit was quite funny as it was like a comedy of errors the four of them in the penthouse together lol. I enjoyed the romance between Terri and Bastian as I can’t think of a couple more deserving of a happy ever after than these two 💕

This book continues from where the last book ended with Kate and Lucern planning their wedding. Kate invites her cousin Terri to help her but slickly pawns her off on Bastien Argeneau, Lucern's older brother.

It was a cute match as Terri and Bastien fit well together. If you dislike insta-love, then you would probably not enjoy this one. It was okay because a lot of the couples in this series fall in love in a week or so. Despite that, this book was humorous, light and fluffy. I may listen to book 5 in a few months.

So. First off. This series? Totally can read out of order. I started with book 19. Then came to book 4. Totally fine. No worries.

The Story:

I had a lot of fun with Tall, Dark & Hungry. It's a bit madcap with the hero and heroine trying to save a wedding of their family/friend and dealing with blunder after blunder after disaster. From wedding favor disasters to finding a new caterer and flowers and on and on. It's rather silly but quite entertaining. As was watching the sassy British heroine fall for our vampire hero. They were cute together. Had some nice heat and laughs and worked well as a team. Both were easy to like and cheer for.

The Narration:

The narration worked. Jeffrey Cummings did a nice job creating distinction between the characters and giving accents where accents were due. The female voices took a little getting used to but not more than a couple chapters and after that I listened to this 9 hour audio in record time. 3ish days? Something like that which is fast for me. He made the silly antics and disasters quite humorous and the steamy scenes which can be a miss on audio for me weren't bad either. I'd listen to him again no problem. I listened on regular 1.0x setting which is slower than I usually listen at but fit his voice and pacing.

I agree with the other reviews that state this was a great book up until the last bit when the heroine goes bat shit crazy. Loses her damn mind and acts like a moron. Other than that. It was great.

I think I liked this one best of the four. Lol, it's entirely possible I said this about the last one too :P
Anyway, I liked Terri and I loved how this had real life moments from Sands own life, seemed more personal.
Here's something that's been bugging me throughout the series. First, the insta. I'm an insta fan but it's getting on my nerves. I want them to put some actual work into it. I get all the MCs especially the Argeneau's are supposed to be gorgeous but there's more to love than a pretty face.
Second, the perfect-fit, tailor made mate thing that's going on. I swear they're starting to feel like the male/female version of the other. They like the same books, games, food, even have the same opinions. I'm sorry, I re]ealize that's supposed to make it romantic but it just comes off as fake and unreal instead.
You're probably thinking, It's a Vampire novel and their sameness is what seems unreal? *scoffs*
I know but I mean their relationship, the one between the man and the woman, comes off unnatural.
That being said, it's not that the book wasn't any good cause it was. It had some real lol moments like the others and I think it's entirely possible the series gets better the further in you get cause every time I think I'm getting tired of it, it springs another character whose story I'd be interested I finding out. *shrugs*
Hazarding a guess here but Vincent's probably next up.
*sigh*
To read or not to read, that is the question.

I think this has been my favorite of the books in this series so far. Sure it was a series of unfortunate events happening to other people that kept throwing our couple together, but it was amusing because of it. I felt bad for Chris though. That poor guy had every bad thing possible happening to him. How many times could they end up in the hospital for stupid random accidents. But it did keep Terri and Bastien having to deal with crisis after crisis. I liked that through it all Bastien kept finding ways to romance Terri and create fun dates for them without being overt about it.

Vincent cracked me up in this story and I'm not sure if I remember reading his book or not. I'm actually looking forward to his story. It should be fun. :)

Then ending of this story was predictable in its' misunderstanding, but still was satisfying in the way that it revolved. I knew Terri was going to have her freak out moment, but of course it was over her assumptions first rather than reality.

TALL,DARK AND MEDIOCRE!!!
The fourth book in the Argeneau series is one fun ride. While not being able to live up to the genius that is Single White Vampire, the book is still able to capture your attention and manages to introduce some fun characters. Plus you get tabs on old characters and that in it self is just awesome. Recap this series is about a family of Canadian vampires and their search for love.

Bastien is the second oldest of Argeneau children and the most take charge. He is in charge of the family business, and he is the go to guy when you need something done. So as you can probably tell he hardly has time for himself much less time to find love. Plus he has some reluctance when it comes to love, once being in love with a human female and being completely rejected his faith in love has been shaken. Can someone really fall in love with what he is. Seems that luck is on his side, and might have found a mate in his sister-in-law’s cousin when she appears to help plan the wedding between Lucern and Kate ( check Single White Vampire). Seems that all business and no play Bastien is about to shake things up. So he’s no longer a dull boy.

Terri is in New York to help plan her cousins wedding, and the brother of the groom is a dream boat all tall, dark and handsome…… So events lead to Terri staying with Bastien at his penthouse with Bastien’s cousin Vincent, and Kate’s co-worker Chris aka CK. Terri knows what its like to lose a love one to a chronic debilitating illness, and when she finds IV stands, syringes and bags of blood she realizes that Bastien might not be as healthy as he appears. One thing Terri cant do again is watch a man she loves succumb to an illness and die. She does love Bastien and she loves him something fierce. Who would have thought that a trip to plan a wedding would lead to an happily ever-after or a not so happy ending.

This book was one disaster after another. Some of the situations was funny when it included CK, what a funny guy. I thought that Terri’s character was a little on the annoying side, way too many mishaps with this one. I did enjoy Bastien though, all cool and collected, mmmmm yummo. Although not my fave of the series I did enjoy reading it because you cant help but get drawn into this wonderful vampiric family antics. A fun light read with a little blood and a nice amount of a laugh plus it Canadian. BING!!!! Just sold it right there.

I'm giving this book two stars, because while it was good, it was not one of the best things I've ever read. It didn't get interesting for me until after the first couple hundred pages. And, that being said, it only seemed to get more interesting because they had sex and finally things were starting to get exciting. I didn't really like everything that happened in the last couple chapters; it kinda pissed me off. I just didn't like this book as much as I was expecting to. When I read the back of it in the store, it sounded really good. And, also, I've read Lynsay Sands' The Accidental Vampire previously and was expecting this book to be good like that one was.

**Minor spoilers ahead.**

So, Kate and Lucern are getting married, and Bastien's pissed. Oh, he's happy for them and all, except that as the "fix it all" brother, he...well, he has to contend with every single thing that goes wrong, because Kate and Lucern are too busy not being able to keep their hands off each other.

And Bastien's doing fine, until Kate's totally-fuckable delectable cousin, Terri, comes over from England.

From then on, it's all hands on deck.
_________

Oh, and did I mention that Bastien as a cousin Vinny?

And...yeah, that's the setup. Oh, and add in an accident-prone editor who got felled by a toilet (actually not kidding on this one), a box of toilet paper flowers, and Bastien's total cluelessness at ordering takeout....

...and you've got, ladies and gentlemen, one funny, yet sweet story!

Out of all the Argeneau books...I've got to admit that this isn't QUITE up to part with A Quite Bite, but literally that's just because there isn't really a conflict in this. Like...60% or so of the book is Bastien and Terri getting together and realizing how perfect they are for each other, and hte other 40% is Terri misunderstanding Bastien's past and then slowly coming to grips with the fact that he's a vampire.

Done. No murder mystery plot, no hidden enemies, nada. Just a really simple story of these two getting together in their own, sweet way. And, speaking of which, the title itself is inaccurate, since while Bastien is indeed tall and dark, he's not exactly too "hungry" (except in lust, of course), and so his wanting Terri's blood is never really an issue. Seriously, I think he's got the best control over himself from all the Argeneaus so far and...yeah.

__________

As a side note, because I give my final ranking for the Argeneau books (thus far), just wondering: is Vinny Thomas's brother? Cause yeah, I really like him as a character, and I hope / guarantee that he gets a romance of his own!

But, ahem, anyway, my ranking:

Argeneaus Ranked (thus far):

1. A Quite Bite (Book 2)
2. Tall, Dark & Hungry (Book 4)
3. Love Bites (Book 2)
4. Single White Vampire (Book 3)

Kate’s cousin Terri flies down from England to help make preparations for Kate and Lucern’s wedding. Since hotels are expensive, she is given accommodation in Bastien’s condo. Things become complicated when both feel an intense attraction to each other, and when wedding preparations take a turn for the worst.

This was a good time. The trifle scene was French kiss. Amazing. I found their feelings too instalovey for my romance taste, but the sex scenes were good and the ridiculous plot lines were entertaining. One of the best parts of this book was the resurgence of Chris, who is just such a loser, I can’t with the things that happen to him. I really like Vincent’s character, and knowing the next book is about him makes me very intrigued.

Finally, a story I can get my teeth into!

Description:

It bites: New York hotels cost an arm and a leg, and Terri has flown from England to help plan her cousin’s wedding. The new in-laws offered lodging. But they’re a weird bunch -- and it isn’t just that they’re Canadian! There is the sometimes-chipper-sometimes-silent Lucern, and the wacky stage-actor Vincent: she can’t imagine Broadway casting a hungrier singing-and-dancing Dracula. And then there is Bastien. Just looking into his eyes, Terri has to admit she’s falling for someone even taller, darker, and hungrier. She’s feeling a mite peckish herself. And if she stays with him, those bloodsucking hotel owners won’t get her!

My Thoughts:

So far my favorite of the Argeneau Series LS has finally broken through and created characters that are more than one dimensional. Their personalities are deeper and you can feel them leap off the book at you. In the past books in this series the secondary characters have always been more interesting and more unique than the h/h but although Vincent and C.K. are hilarious I found Bastien and Terri so sweet. I loved that Bastien was sensitive and unsure of himself. I liked that Terri was a bit flighty and said what she was thinking. That being said I couldn't figured out why she stepped out of character and ran near the end of the book. It just didn't fit her forthright personality. I admit to thinking that Bastien was a cold fish in previous books and was so happy to find a hidden depth and sense of humour about him. The story was much more unique than those found in the past books and you now can really get into what set this series apart from other more meh turn outs. Love LS's definition of Vampires and their beginnings. Love the closeness and sense of family she creates in the books.

All this said I give this outing a soft 4 stars. But have to admit I'm looking forward to Vincent's book as he was my favorite character to come out of this one. I also can't wait to find out what is going to happen with C.K. cause you just know we will be seeing more of him.

***3.5 Bastien stars***

Me divertí muchísimo y me enamoré. Ahora mismo tengo una nube rosa y sonrisa boba y soñadora que no se me quita... *Ahhhhh, Bastien <3 *
Ojalá hubiera libro de Vincent...

What I missed most in this book was the humour. The other one had me giggling. This one, well the humour missed its mark, if it was supposed to be humour. It was still good cos it was light, and not PNR serious. So for that it still gets a good mark, even if it was bordering ok sometimes. I just missed the giggling!

Bastien meets Terri. A cousin of Kate who is marrying Bastien's brother. Most of the book takes place during 2 weeks. Terri is helping with the wedding and Bastien is falling for her. And of course at the end there is the usual OMG YOU ARE A VAMP! Drama, well with a twist.

So they help with the wedding. Sees NY. There is kissing, there is more. There is the part that was supposed to be funny? It wasn't. And there is a HEA.

I still miss the funniness.

It's a good book. I'm not raving about it, though. But at the end, I wanted to slap Bastien so badly for assuming something so stupid to be the reason behind Terri's... Urghn... men... they can be SO dense!

Selain kurang menggugah, unsur paranormal-nya sangat terasa tempelan aja. Lebih tepatnya sih contemporary romance rasa fantasy.

Bastien Argeneau is the family fixer. He solves all the problems everyone just has to come up with as well as run the family businesses. And now he is in New York for the wedding of his brother, Lucern. His brother has asked him to host his wife-to-be's cousin and best friend, Terri Lea Simpson. It should be no problem. It would be no problem, that is, until everything with the wedding starts going wrong and the bride and groom to be are off on a business trip!

Tall, Dark and Hungry is less hilarious yet more adorable than the others so far in the series. It is a really long book on how to date your perfect partner. For the funny parts of the book, we have to turn to the side character, Vincent, who is Bastien's cousin. He is playing Dracula in a play. It is quite amusing. The dating is absolutely adorable though.

Bastien Argeneau is the one the family depends on. He took over everything when his father descended into alcoholism. He likes it. Yet in this book he says "Fuck it, I'm going to do what I want for a bit" and does whatever he wants to do with Terri. Everyone is okay with this, though, because poor Bastien has really needed a vacation for quite some time. The Argeneau family is the absolute best. Watching Bastien shuck off his chains and just be happy in the company of another is such a freeing feeling. I feel so happy for him!

Terri Lea Simpson is grieving. Even though it has been several years since her husband died, Terri still hasn't gotten over his death. She hasn't lived. She has even been hiding from the world and even from herself. Tall, Dark & Hungry for Terri is really about her coming out of her shell. Learning how to live again. Learning how to love again. And she couldn't have picked a better guy. I just hated the miscommunication between the two at the end! Bastien, Terri, you're better than this! Grr.

The conflict of this book, no lie, was the wedding. This wedding was just not meant to be. Everything that could go wrong, did. Everything. Including a toilet falling through the ceiling and landing on a poor dude. After the third catastrophe, I would have just called it and ran off to Vegas to elope. I cannot believe the amount of problems that arose! It was like watching a slow moving train wreck, you just couldn't look away.

Tall, Dark and Hungry is a book you need to read with a bowl of popcorn beside you. It is another adorable, funny, incredibly entertaining paranormal romance read from the lovely Lynsay Sands.

I'm a bit disappointed! I really like Bastien, and I was hoping his book would be so sexy and he would get the perfect heroine to shake him up! But that's not exactly how I feel after reading this book.

First of all, I felt a lack of the humor that was always present in the past books in this series. I don't think I can recall one moment where I was really laughing like in Single White Vampire. Yes, there's some moments you could consider funny, but it wasn't the same.

In this book, Bastien is left to entertain Kate's cousin from England, while Kate and Lucern go take care of her work. At the same time, they have to save Lucern and Kate's wedding, as all plans fall apart. It was just one catastrophe after another!

My main complaint is that I never felt the connection between Terri and Bastien. Maybe the story would've been better if we got to see more the Argeneau family! They were absent for the most part.

It's a light read, with some humor, no action, plenty of wedding drama, and though not the best in this series, it's an enjoyable book.

One and a half.

This book was tedious - bored the pants off me but for some reason I felt compelled to finish it.

Lots of boring detail about nothing in particular. I reached my limit when Sands felt it necessary to explain how Terri went to the toilet.

Plenty of unnecessary dialogue that went nowhere, and supposed comedy that just fell flat for me and halted the story when actually it had a chance to go somewhere - as I've said previously about Sands' humour, I guess you had to be there.

I think I'm done with this series.

Never read about so many problems for a wedding. Sheesh!
This was a good read. Lots of trouble for Bastian and Terri. Love the conflict.
I'm curious to see if Vincent will now find a mate.
Looking forward to the next one.
