An informal guide to blending witchcraft with a cottagecore lifestyle that goes beyond the aesthetic and gives readers a romanticized view of creating their own dream life through aspects common to rural, cottage life. Filled with inspiration to help get you started wherever you are, and stories from Lacey's own journey to a cottagecore life, this book is like a conversation with a friend. Instead of a dry how-to book, The Witch's Guide to a Cottagecore Life pulls readers into the magic of how to live a simpler, more mindful life, while weaving their magic and lifestyle together in a way that builds a life of everyday enchantment.
3.0/5 During the last months I have read more and more non-fiction books and the majority of them were concerned with hygge lifestyle and cottage core lifestyle. I quite liked this one as the author speaks directly to the reader and shares a lot of information from her own life and her experiences. It simply makes the lifestyle feel more tangible, which I really enjoyed. Apart from this, I would have loved some recipes for the baking chapter, more information about which fruit or vegetable is suitable for beginners at gardening and when to plant them or inspirational patterns for the handcraft chapter.
A great hybrid of witchcraft and cottage core. I have heard/read a lot of the content before but I loved the author’s take on it. Extra points for how cute the cover is.
An excellent overview of the cottagecore lifestyle, this book briefly introduces the reader to the various concepts and aesthetics of cottagecore, and uses examples from her own lifestyle to illustrate. By far the best overview I’ve seen so far, it was the political commentary I could have done without- more because it tended to derail my thoughts than anything else. I would also have liked to see some booklists/further information links in the back of the book to round it all out with the ability to dive a little deeper into the topics discussed.
The lowdown is that it is a good, quick overview of the cottagecore life, with some ideas for instigating it for yourself, and some inspiration to help you get there.
This book isn't so much a guide, but more so an inspirational look at how you could and can make that dream cottage core lifestyle more of a reality.
The downfall to this book is that whilst Lacey talks about all the key aspects of cottagecore life - like handicrafts, gardening, aesthetics and cooking/baking - there is no "how to" included. There is no recipes for bread or ideas for how to get started when learning a craft or gardening. The reader is left to their own devices to find those things out for themselves. Which all in all is fine; it just would have been nice to have a recipe or two for Lacey's favourite type of bread or a standard pickling recipe or just including a bit more detail...
There was also very little talk on the magical aspects; which for me was fine and dandy as it wasn't the reason I selected this book to read. When magic was mentioned - often feeling like a bit of an after thought - it was incredibly focused in mindfulness rather than anything else.
In saying all that, I really enjoyed this book, I pulled a lot of inspiration from it and I truly believe that was the goal Lacey had in mind with writing it: to inspire rather than guide. I truly will take a lot from this book and try to enrich my daily life with the messages and inspiration I received.
I will be purchasing it in hard copy! My life is much like this minus we move a lot being military. One day we will settle down and have our own space. I garden and creates a cottage home every where I go! I loved your book and need it on my shelf. Inspiring!
I loved this it’s about the art of slowing down and living a simpler life. It really shows how a “cottage core” lifestyle can invite magic into your everyday life.
This was an easy read and a good overview. I liked the writing style; it felt friendly. I don't know how much of a guide it is, necessarily, but it was interesting.
This is an adorably concise and well put together book about living a cottagecore lifestyle.
I already practice a lot of these things, but having one place where everything is put together in great chapter headings as a review place of sorts, was great to read.
The author infuses a wonderful balance of her personal experiences with practical advice. I normally struggle with books that are "how to", but read like memoirs where authors just insert journal entries of their wonderful lives (I sound bitter, but I promise i am not).
That is NOT what this is. This book is fantastically paced and well organized.
I only wish there was a table of content that could be assessed from inside the book.
What I really enjoyed about this book, is that Lacey Stokes has provided simple, to the point ideas that anyone can implement in their life straight away. This week, I made my first ever onion pickle and decorated the jar in a way that I loved, thanks to the inspiring words written within the pages of this book. Would have loved to see some recipes and more in-depth steps for some of the activities - but I am aware this is a guide to help take those steps - and you can be sure that as someone who didn’t even know what cottagecore means, I now know want more of it in my life :) Thanks for the inspiration!
