Magic is a rare gift, and it's been six months since Dominai of Airedale first left home to study it. After solidifying his place at the legendary Crux as a skilled conduit, he now faces his next challenge: casting. When every spell he attempts fails to hit the mark, he finally turns to the Grandmaster of the Crux, Arlon Kalisson, for guidance.
The unyielding lessons that follow strip Dom down to his very foundation, rebuilding him to confront his own worst enemy: himself. But while Dom grows more confident inside the Crux, a threat gathers outside of it. One that will rock the kingdom of Straetham to its core, capable of destroying the Crux from the inside out.

I thought it couldn't go better after the last one, I was wrong.
I am still at awe at how Alethea Faust still keeps churning new ideas and apparently, they do not run out of them. This book made me absolutely love Arlon! He's so kind and protective and strong at the same time. Honestly, wish I could get into this story and have a turn with him. *wink wink*
This book was such an amazing read! I was a little anxious because Arlon was certainly not one of my favorites from the first book. He kinda scared me a bit and based on some teasers... Well, I was scared for my boy, Dom, going into this one. But he makes it through as always.
Underneath all the very well-written, consent-aware, and inclusive kinky sex, this is a story about developing self-confidence. As someone who lives in a constant state of self-doubt, seeing the positive message "you are enough as you are" reinforced throughout, watching as Dom finds his confidence as a caster, a conduit, a friend, and a lover was so moving. I was fully invested in his journey and I felt like reading this book made me better aware of how that little voice sounds in my own head.
One of my favorite scenes has Dom casting with an asexual character and I love how that is handled. I love how all the character's differences and preferences are handled.
There were two parts that were a little tough for me to get through... Corpimancy scares the hell out of me and it's always hard for me to read, and I had a lot of concern about reading some of the heavier humiliation scenes cause I'm not into that. Honestly, it's so well written though that, by the end of those scenes, I could understand the appeal, even if it wasn't for me. Seriously, if Faust could make me go "okay, I get why needles might be hot", they can write anything. (Yes, I'm a big baby.)
I'm also strangely invested in the guard that kept showing up and the politics of this world. Please follow up with the guard. Nic I think his name was. I need to know where that's going!
I swear, once I saw there were only 30 minutes left in the book, I put off finishing it because I didn't want it to be done. I'm going to be reading this again and again until the next one comes out.
📚 𝗧𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲: Fantasy erotica (if it ain't a thing... I'm coining it here)
📖 𝗦𝘆𝗻𝗼𝗽𝘀𝗶𝘀: In the second book of this series (which focuses on a continuous story), Dom continues his studies at the Crus while the wizards still battle with the evil among them.
🌟 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄: Man. These books have the secret sauce, and the second installment lived up to my expectations.
Theres nothing much I didn't love about Mastery. I absolutely adored Arlon and Dom's relationship growing. I loved the next-level depravity of it all. I loved Dom growing into himself and his narration of the events. And no spoilers, but I love where Faust is bringing it in the future.
These are definitely for seasoned erotica readers. They're insanely kinky. But I absolutely appreciate how Faust starts each chapter with a bit of a glimpse into what's going to happen. I didn't skip anything, but it makes it easier to read when you know what to expect AND it makes it easier for those readers who may want to skip to do so.
Lastly, I truly think Althea Faust has created a world and has preached sexual fluidity like no other. I feel like this series gender bends and no character conforms to a standard - and I love it. Can't wait for Book 3!
Half point off here is only for typos. I hit my limit late, but the last few chapters had quite a few that slowed my reading.
🔮 𝗙𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘀𝘆 𝗘𝗮𝘀𝗲: Medium. There's a lot going on here. But once I picked it up it all came back into me. Faust includes a intro to each chapter that helps with context clues as well.
I enjoyed this one too. If there was a third one, I would move right onto it.
In this one, some of the kink got a bit too intense for me, but I was easily able to skim past it. (There was humiliation kink that was m/f and I just couldn't). It did not put me off the story though.
Towards the end I was also skimming past much of the sex, but I was still enjoying everything else.
There were meticulous warnings at the beginning of each chapter. So that humiliation kind bit I was easily able to skate past.
Mastery, the second novel in the Sex Wizards series by Althea Faust, is a tale filled with kinky wizards, fantastic spells, and even a little learning about yourself. A sequel to Initiation, this book was a fun and steamy read, though I failed to connect with it as much as I did the first one - though that didn’t stop it from still being a great read.
Picking up not long after the first one ended, the reader is quickly brought up to speed on what's happened since the end of Book 1, when our main character Dominai helped rescue a batch of missing wizards. Now recovering at the Crux, the wizard training school-slash-kink dungeon, several of those who were rescued are still carrying the trauma of the assault and rape they experienced at the hands of Diran, an evil rogue wizard. This includes Olbric, the closest thing Dom has ever had to a regular lover.
Over the course of the book, Dom helps Olbric and many of the other victims work through their trauma, both in and out of the bedroom. This was a highlight of the book for me, as Dom learns more about those he cares about and even himself through these scenes. New characters are introduced, and fresh insight is gained on old ones. Miss Faust did an excellent job in showing how this kind of healing is a process, and not one that can be solved in an afternoon.
I had fun with this book, though I do think it lacked a little bit of the excitement I felt when reading the first one. I still think this magic system, which utilizes kinky sexual acts to cast spells, is one of the msot inventive I’ve read, but the sex scenes started to almost feel forulaic after a time. It started to seem like these people never have sex outside of casting magic, and from a worldbuilding standpoint, that fact that sex is the only way to cast magic highlighted some of the more impractical effects behind that to me.
Not that any of the sex scenes themselves were lacking. Dom (and the reader) experience several new things, including a prolonged period of deep submission under Arlon, the Crux’s grandmaster, and a very sexy daddy. As someone with a daddy kink, I just generally loved seeing the connection between these two characters deepen. Reading about Dom falling deeper into a submissive headspace checked all the right boxes for me, and I equally enjoyed when Alethea showed how that can affect dominants as well.
The plot of this book feels a little looser than the last. Our characters spend much of the book searching for Diran’s whereabouts, following several potential leads with mixed results. The climax of the book actually caught me by surprise, and felt less resolved than I would have liked leading into Book 3. That said, the portions of the story focusing on Dom’s growth as a wizard were fantastic, and I could easily read a book of just that.
So, while I may not have been as into this book as I was the first, this is still a series I am heavily invested in. I need to know more about Diran and his evil plans, and I need to see Dom master even more magic. I am looking forward to Book 3, and all the kinky magic I know I can expect!

This was everything I didn’t know I needed in the story and for the characters. I loved Dom in the first book just the way he was, and never realized the growth he could need/have when well mentored… and boy did he grow! I love how the author gives us his inner monologue that is so realistic and in tune with someone lacking confidence, thinking he’s not enough and doesn’t deserve the people around him, growing into someone with more confidence and learning to not listen to that negative inner voice on his head!
I wish the plot was a bit more prominent throughout the book, but Dom’s growth needed the space and I am here for it! I can’t wait for the next book in this series. I can’t believe this is the author’s debut series! My mind is blown!!! Definitely recommend!!!
Uwielbiam tę serię. Serio.

This was a great sequel to book 1 but I didn’t love it quite as much for a couple of reasons. Whilst I enjoyed getting to know Arlon a little better I felt like this book neglected some of Dom’s other relationships. As much as I’m all for the kinky sex magic I was soooo hoping to see a bit more of a romantic development between Dom and Olbric but it felt like all the focus was on Dom and Arlon in this book.
Whilst I liked that the author addressed issues of jealous it didn’t quite delve into it enough for me. I would have liked to see Dom and Olbric have to put a bit more effort and discussion into resolving that.
The book also ended really abruptly in my opinion. It finished I was like eh, where’s the next chapter. I will definitely continue to read the series, the steam was steaming and I’m enjoying seeing Dom’s confidence develop, especially in casting. His casting with Alix was a highlight for me in this book. It was a really beautiful moment and I liked how it delved into the less sexual side of bondage.
Absolutely loved this second instalment in the series! Following the events from book 1, understandably a lot of people are feeling very vulnerable and traumatised. Much of the focus is on Dom finding his confidence as a caster (through Arlon’s careful treatment 😏) and then we get bits and pieces of other characters healing or reclaiming power through touch/physical intimacy. The chapter “Healing Touch” with Alix was one of the most beautiful in the series - it’s all about connection and trust and there’s no sėx involved.
I’m definitely looking forward to the next book, this series continues to be both incredibly smutty and touching at the same time.
I really love the series. The book is rather unique in its magic system and I have not seen a similar idea in terms of that.
I read both books one after another... Well, that might have been a mistake from my side, because it just became too much - heavily embedded sexual content and lack of plot development.
What I mean is... in the second book, the plot is rather stagnant. It doesn't really move ahead, and the main antagonist does not show up to create action, he is just briefly mentioned. Even though the writing and the book's logical organization have improved in this book, for example, those references to books, which supposedly are used to learn magic in the universe, were a good addition, to explore more deeply the magic system and how it works; however, it still was lacking the breathing space between all magic casting among the characters.
Also, characters. It felt like they were not fully developed. He got to know most of the people via casting, and the relationship just did not move anywhere when casting was not involved. Thus, random hostility from some of his 'friends' made no sense to me. Finally, the whole trauma thing with many of the students and them overcoming it... well, it felt way too unnatural. They were tortured for months but yet only after one try, all of them are able to move on with their casting. Hmm, that felt a bit rushed for me.
All and all, I still loved the books. They were unique and made me laugh in some places and feel happy in others. It just pulls you in, if the content is to your preferences. Looking forward to the third book, to finally meet that asshole.. :D

A beautiful continuation of the first story. I love the development of Dom and Olbric’s relationship, as well as the introduction of a dynamic with Arlon. Dom, being the exhibitionist that he is, really is the perfect protagonist to star in a story like this, where different kinks and partners are introduced and explored. As a kinky person myself, I love how the author handles the dynamics and the importance of communication in dynamics like this. My biggest ick with kink representation in (fan) fiction is that it usually represents power dynamics in incredibly unhealthy, toxic and unrealistic ways, that inexperienced readers might not even be aware of, yet take as truth or inspiration for their own exploration. But with sex wizards, I didn’t encounter this issue at all. Dom is a bit agreeable for my taste, but besides that, all things are discussed and explored in safe and sane ways. Healthy and realistic, especially since the play isn’t all perfect, either! Mistakes are made and learned from. Even experienced doms are shown having to learn and adapt for new partners and situations. I love that representation!
I am so stuck in this world, I'm not sure I have much constructive to say. Dom's weaknesses kick off the story, which is much needed after how smoothly book one went. I can't say I completely believe his growth into topping, but I'll take it.
As the series goes on Faust is actively making the world as inclusive as possible, and I love it. In this volume we see how those are who are physically disabled, ace, and/or working through past trauma fit when magic is conjured via sex, and I appreciate it all.
More proof that kink is an amazing way to get into character's heads (see also Kris Ripper's Scientific Method Universe).
My head is still reeling from finishing the book, so all I’ll say for now is that if you liked the series you’ll love this one!
Dom is finding his feet more and more, his relationships are deepening, and it’s a joy to see! Again, the kink in this book is some of the best I’ve read! It rivals The Losers for best kink of all time for me!
I’ve read myself out on tropey reverse harem, and this series is the perfect remedy. Getting out of the gendered stereotypes of rh where the FMC often tends to be very muted in her (sometimes flat and boring) submission, like she loses her agency when the harem comes together. This magic polycule has none of that. The spectrum of gender and sexual expression is wide, and Doms experiences is a perfect lense, and gives a deep look into a broad array of kink.
I’m enraptured, and can’t wait to keep going in the series.
What to expect: it’s official. I am obsessed with this series and world that Alethea has built… as well as the characters. This series is developing into an epic sex fantasy series and I am here for it because there’s nothing else like it out there. Also, I would die for Olbric. That is all.
Due to the nature and subject matter of this book, please check and heed all TW/CWs
The world building here is subtle, but I love what it hints at, the larger world at play. Dom is slowly becoming confident in his role in it, and it's excellent to see him 'come' into his own. Love this story, love this series!
look... these books are absurdly good. like, really high quality erotica that centers incredibly kind, loving and thoughtful people and really healthy conversations about consent and intimacy, and also a really interesting fantasy world and magic system that's well developed??
Book 1 of this series, Initiation, was like no other fantasy romance I've read before and so I decided to continue with the series pretty quickly!
You must read book 1 __________________________________
Mastery picks up with Dominai continuing his "education" in this worlds magic system. He has proven himself to be a powerful conduit though he is struggling with being a caster. So he seeks out the aid of the headmaster.
In book 1 I thought the balance of steam and plot were balanced well and I enjoyed both aspects. Mastery though was heavily focused on the steamy parts. The overarching plot still played a role but was a small part of this book.
Let's be clear, the steam was great, even if it had be questioning my boundaries 😆
Dominai is such an interesting character and I highly enjoyed watching him come into his own.
I also loved the communication, the after care, the overall care and support each character had for each other and their community as a whole.
Read this if you like: erotic fantasy, found family, queer rep, after care,
Alethea keeps upping the ante in this series! The combination of emotion, magic, and sexy steam in these books is just so good! We return to the Crux where all is not well. The rogue wizards are still missing; as in Garrett. Arlin is struggling with his attempts to keep his people safe. Olbric, Cancassi, and Alix are fighting the demons of their time in the caves. And sweet Dominae is trying his best to support everyone as best he can, while still trying to learn to cast successfully. When he goes to the Grand Wizard for help, Arlon has some creative ideas on how to help! We get to explore so many kinky spells in this one: submission, collaring, somnophilia, bondage (we’re going back into the silver!!), and domination. The wizards need to do all they can to create spells, and they’re willing to try anything (twice 🤣). As the fight to capture the rogue wizards and the safety of the Crux rages on, these wizards are in for the fight of their lives. This series is absolutely brilliant and I can’t wait to see where this crew goes next!!
To say I was concerned that this book wasn't going to be as good as the first is a gross understatement - because I loved every single thing about Initiation. But I shouldn't have been. This book far exceeded the first on all fronts, and blew my expectations out of the water.
I'm not going to get into the actual plot or anything in this book, because you're best off going into the whole series blind. But I will say, the plot of this book far exceeded book 1. There was a goal, casting had purpose rather than just experimentation, the side characters were developed more, we learned more back stories, Dom won over more of my heart, Arlon proved he is a god amongst men, and I'm left gagging for more.
As with the first, this book is not a romance...at least not yet. It's queer erotic BDSM fantasy, and it is fabulous.
How did I forget there was an ace character in this?! 😭😭 I especially love how Dom is confronted about his inability to stop during scenes and how he and Garrett's friendship/relationship develops. And of course, Dom and Olbric ❤️
