Why would a man with no problems and five million dollars in the bank disappear? I should have run when Amanda Ghering walked into my detective agency looking like a femme fatale from a film noir. But I didn’t. Instead, I took the job—and my first real case—tracking down her husband Peter, who disappeared without a trace three weeks ago. As beautiful and wealthy as she is dark and dangerous, Amanda’s convinced he’s been murdered. Who could have wanted him dead Before long, it’s clear there’s more to this case than meets the eye. As Amanda’s story keeps changing, someone is out there who’ll do anything to stop me from finding out what happened to Peter.
And time is running out for both of us.

From the time she was ten and tried to write her own detective series in the fashion of the Hardy Boys, Renée Pawlish has been developing her craft. Along with creative writing classes, Renée studied great writers like Dashiell Hammett, Rex Stout, Stephen King, Sue Grafton and many more. Once Renée graduated from college, she began her first novel. Now, all these years later, she has penned numerous books in a variety of genres.
Renée was born in California, but has lived most of her life in Colorado. When she's not hiking, cycling, or chasing ballplayers for autographs, she is writing mysteries and thrillers. She also has some middle grade novels waiting to be published.
Renée loves to travel and has visited numerous countries around the world. She has also spent many summer days at her parents' cabin in the hills outside of Boulder, which was the inspiration for the setting of Taylor Crossing in her novel Nephilim: Genesis of Evil.

I read this through Kindle unlimited. Reed Ferguson is the private investigator, which is believable. He is not perfect; he is a bit too curious to stay safe at times. His friends and side kicks of Cal, a computer genius, and the goofball brothers, who are a bit simple, make this series fun. Oh, the mom and then girlfriend, Willie, who both love him but fear the danger of the jobs Reed takes on, makes it easy to be in the stories as they develop. The stories are well researched and cover crimes you hear about in the news, human trafficking and trafficking of human organs, for example. These make you think about how clandestine crimes may be closer to us than we think. The stories teach while entertaining. Bravo!
Reed Ferguson is an engaging character as are his neighbors, the "goofball brothers," Ace and Deuce. The stories take place in Denver, a location I know fairly well, so it's fun following Reed's adventures in familiar places. Reed is a film noir buff, and the references to those movies and the books from which they stem are fun to read about as well. The plots are well developed, and the books are a fast read. You get a lot of value for the buck by buying the series. It's worth taking a look at.
Some of the books were better than others. There were actually times when I wanted to put it down, but I was determined to finish. This definitely wasn't a "couldn't put it down" book. This was more of a help me fall asleep. Not that it was bad, just not quite as entertaining as I would have liked.
I love mysteries and appreciate one that is well written and clean. I enjoyed the box set and look forward to reading another series. A good read and great characters.
Good stories, later ones better. Lot of similarities….for example Reed gets beaten up at least once in each. No bad language or graphic sex…just good stories.
This was a very enjoyable series - readable, quirky characters, growth and change, and local color. I always enjoy books where I am familiar with settings. I live in Colorado and related to most of the settings which gave me the feeling of 'being there, that I wasn't expecting.
