Although the lymphatic system is as extensive as the body's cardiovascular system, it performs many more functions. Yet medical school curricula typically include less than an hour of instruction about this quintessential system. I seldom give five stars to any book. But this book is a life changer in so many ways. I wish it were marketed to a wider audience than just lymphatic and lipedema patients. I started reading because a friend with shared diagnoses of breast cancer and Ehlers Danlos Syndrome was recently diagnosed with lipedema and Leslyn Keith books were a godsend. I love anybook that distills the lastest research that helps me get one step closer to solving my own chronic illnesses. What I discovered is my mother may have been undiagnosed with lipema and or lymphadema as she died from complication of knee surgery and sepsis. In a way I wanted to honor her by learning about the disease that was her life long affliction. What I ultimately learned was we are all suffering to different degrees from the Standard American Diet and the USDA food pyramid (eat more carbs and limit fat) to live a healthy and productive life. She dispels all these healthy diet myths by explaining the importance of a healthy lymphatic system and its requirements. As a biologist I have been searching for years to understand the disconnect between good health and the modern diet. Weston Price came the closest to explaining physical degeneration but he stop short of making the connection between modern and tradional diets. Leslyn Keith helped me finally make these connections. Nutrient dense fat and protein is the key to good health period. This message can not be overemphasized. Although this is meant as a handbook for patient and clinician regarding lymphadema it is so much more. I love the heartfelt message as well as the well researched and documented (483 scientifc citations) dive into introduction to the often overlooked lymphatic system. I truly believe inflammation is the root of most modern chronic illnesses and Leslyn Keith delivers the keys to the kingdom of good health- a ketogenic lifestyle. I highly reccomend everyone read this book!
