I have read and loved all of Jill Hannah Anderson’s books. They address serious topics with smart female characters and are always well-written. A Life Unraveled is her newest and my new favorite from her.

About A Life Unraveled: “Kindergarten teacher Lily Gallo is a happily married mother of three who considers her life perfect… until the day she’s brutally assaulted while out on a run. When the town’s high school football hero is arrested for the attack, Lily’s family suffers retaliation from local sports fans.

Recovering from her injuries, Lily wraps herself in an opioid cloud. Later, a barely avoided tragedy motivates her to flush the narcotics. But her return to sobriety is overshadowed by unnerving memory lapses and her husband’s growing mistrust.

As unremembered events become more disturbing, Lily is convinced that she’s being stalked. Though her attacker started the destruction of her life, someone else is determined to finish it.”

Lily’s story is full of emotion, and it was easy to connect to her from the very start. What a journey she went on; what a journey for her family. This was so hard to put down because I had to know how things would resolve. It did a number on my heart- racing, pounding, even soaring.

Powerful, all-consuming, and compulsively readable, I really loved this one.

I received a gifted copy.

"A Life Unraveled" kept on unraveling, unraveling, and unraveling.

The outcome?

Much too much "unraveling" for my fastidious taste.

The book started off with a horrific assault.

A happily married working mom is brutally attacked while out for a run.

The author did a superb job of portraying the devastating impact of an assault on the victim and family members.

After the assault, the unraveling began.

The end result? A very, very fast-paced book quickly transformed itself into a very, very slow burn "Are we there yet?" book that was repetitious and predictable.

The last two chapters were strong but it took much too long to get there.

I listened to the audiobook read by Sophie Amoss, who did an outstanding job with the narration.

I decided to read a few chapters of this new book before I went to bed. Once I started reading it I couldn't put it down and it kept me up way past my normal bedtime. This book grabbed me on the first page and kept me from paying attention to anything but the story. It's a story of a loving family facing an attack that changes their lives and how they cope with the changes.

Lily and her husband are happily married and have three children. She feels that her life is perfect - not only does she have a loving family but she also loves her job as a kindergarten teacher. She tries to run every day and one Saturday morning she is attacked and assaulted by another runner - a young man that she's seen before during her runs. The attack is brutal and she ends up in the hospital with a myriad of physical problems. When a detective visits her, she is able to help identify her assailant. Much to everyone's surprise, the assailant was a popular high school football player who has led this team to the playoffs in recent years. The trauma of her injuries and her pain, make her begin to rely on pain killers when she gets home. A near family tragedy makes her decide to get sober but her life is still turned upside down because she starts having memory lapses and making some bad decisions which causes her family to begin to lose their trust in her. They are very skeptical of her feeling that she is being followed and that someone is out to get her. Is someone trying to cause the destruction of her family life or is she responsible for what is happening or is still taking drugs?

Basically the novel is about the changes in a family when someone deals with a life threatening incident. The characters are very well written -- faults and all - and the plot is tense throughout the entire novel. I was pulling for Lily's recovery from the beginning of the book but then I began to question her sanity. Luke was a saint and the kids were justifiably worried about mom. It got to the point, that I wasn't sure who to trust and who was telling the truth.

This is a tremendous book. It's full of roller coaster twists and turns when you don't know who to believe with an ending that I didn't see coming. My advice is to clear your calendar before you read the first page because you won't want to put it down once you've started it. This novel is about family, love, forgiveness and a great mystery. I have read all of this author's books and she just keeps getting better. I can't wait to see what she writes next.

Thanks to the author for a copy of this book to read and review. All opinions are my own.

I received an ARC of this book and I enjoyed it so much! There are several underlying themes throughout the book that really hit home for me. Trust -- how much can you trust those around you? During hard times, can you trust your community? Your friends? Your family? Yourself?? Also the impact of addiction on families, both in the short term and the long term, and how far the consequences can reach. Another theme that kept me thinking and engaged while reading was the concept of guilt. The main character, Lily, struggled with a lot of feelings of guilt over things and events that she had no control over. I think a lot of us, especially as women, experience that same struggle because of unrealistic expectations of perfection and the strength we think we should display to the world.

Much of the first half of the book was focused on the emotional and physical healing of Lily and her family after she is brutally attacked while running. Lily struggles with a growing reliance on opioid medications for both her physical pain and her mental anguish. This causes a lot of difficulties for her and her family. While they are working to heal, they are faced with anger from their community due to Lily's attacker being a local football star. Friendships change or are lost, relationships with family members are strained, and old wounds are revisited. Lily must come to terms with the damage that her reliance on opioids is causing, and fight to remain sober while continuing to cope.

The second part of the book changes lanes, in a way. There are several mysterious events that happen, causing Lily to question her own sanity, and those around her to question her sobriety and honesty. A lot of trust issues come into play during this part of the book. Lily isn't sure whether to trust herself, there is growing tension in her marriage, and her children are negatively impacted. Another tragic event in their lives leads to answers that were unexpected and surprising.

Overall, this was a wonderful story of personal, family, and community healing and forgiveness. It was almost impossible to put it down! I thank the author for the opportunity to read and review her book.

A Life Unraveled is a gripping and emotional book about resilience and courage. Lily and her family are reeling after she is viciously attacked, and Lily continues to struggle physically, mentally, and professionally. This heart-tugging story kept me up all night reading, my heart breaking for Lily, her husband Luke, and their three daughters; but with each heartache and challenge, love and hope kept Lily and her family from giving up. Their struggles felt so real, and it was easy to put myself into their situation, filling me with empathy. The relationships were genuine, the good along with the bad, loyalty as well as distrust, but never losing sight of the love they felt for each other. I was completely invested in Lily’s life; I wept and hurt for her, I cheered and celebrated for her; I cared about what happened to her.

First, I want to thank Jill Hannah Anderson and Red Adept Publishing for providing me with this book so I may bring you this review!!

WOW!!! Jill Hannah Anderson’s A Life Unraveled is hands down her best written book ever! This book has 5 stars written all over it! If you like a suspenseful read that will have you on the edge of your comfy chair then you must add this to the top of your TBR pile! Oh it is so good that I devoured it in one sitting!! It is so good!!!

Jill Hannah Anderson dedicates this book to her late friend Donna K and for everyone dealing with invisible wounds.

I am always in awe at how writers come up with the inspiration for their incredible stories. Jill shares with us how her idea came about for this book.

Streetlight Graphics did a great job on the cover art! It was simplistic and a very pretty design.

A Life Unraveled had my emotions all over the place! The storyline was intense, suspenseful, tragic at times, events that pulled on my heart strings hard, and so many sharp twists and turns that lead up to a shocking ending!

Instantaneously Jill pulled me into this totally addictive storyline. I felt like a fly on the wall stunned as I saw the horrific events unfold! WOW!! Jill did an incredible job with all the details and descriptions of what was going on.

I loved how we the readers were learning at the same time as the character as to what was happening to her.

Lily’s character was my favorite character in this book. She proved time and time again how an incredibly strong person she was!

There are some very important issues and topics that Jill addresses in this book.

Jill definitely did her research and educated her readers on the medical side of things.

Every book I’ve read by Jill Hannah Anderson has been five-star read for me. A Life Unraveled is right up there in the five-star category. This story immediately pulls you in and believe me you won’t want to pull away from it. The big mystery is why the star high school quarterback would brutally attack Lily, a married, young mom of three and kindergarten teacher. And why did he continue to yell “I hate you” as he was beating her? Lily didn’t know why this attack happened and why he kept saying those words to her. This horrible attack not only puts her in the hospital for several weeks and disrupts her family’s life, it also causes her to become dependent on pain killers. When she finally realizes she must stop taking those pills after putting her daughter’s life in danger, she still feels like her brain is in a fog and continues to be forgetful. She does not understand why this is happening to her. Of course, we do find out why she was attacked and why she always seemed to be in a brain fog in the surprising twist at the end that I did not see coming at all. I had my suspicions but was not even close.

I thought this was a well-written story, with a good cast of characters, and enough mystery to keep you reading into the middle of the night. If not for life’s interruptions, I probably would have read this is one or two sittings. It really is that good. This is a story about family, trust, being open and honest with those you love, and not doubting yourself. I can’t wait to see what JHA will write next. Whatever it is, I will be reading it.

Thank you to the author and publisher for the review copy. All opinions are my own.

I totally enjoyed this read!

Well-written and thought provoking, A Life Unraveled explores what happens when the perfect life falls apart, and how easy to be pushed off that edge.

Lily Gallo is happy. Great kids, awesome husband, nice suburban life. Until she is attacked during her morning run and everything is sent off kilter. Struggling to reclaim her prior life, and bullied by the locals, she’s dealing with multiple health issues, struggling with opiates, and wishes she could understand why the supposably flawless local High School football hero – a teen with no obvious motivation — would have attacked her?

Lily is relatable, a character I loved. And I appreciated the portrayal of a solid marriage that tries to keep working, even when circumstances are causing each of husband and wife to doubt each other.

The novel tackles important themes of victim shaming and trolling (when a whole town seems determined to support the High School hero no matter what the facts), and I appreciated the delicate treatment of mental health challenges, including opiate addiction.

Part mystery, this novel kept me hooked all the way through - with a surprising antagonist you don’t learn until the end of the novel.

A compelling read with emotional pull, a fascinating story full of love, affection and family dynamics. With several plot turns, I stayed up late at night to find out what happens to Lily. At each twist, I wanted her to win out.

A Life Unraveled kept me hooked all the way. No spoilers here, but ultimately it reaches a good fulfilling happy ending, which I thoroughly enjoyed!

Yes. I wrote this book, put my heart and soul into it as authors do, but I want to give a shout-out to the narrator, Sophie Amoss, who did a fabulous job of conveying the emotions in the story.
I'd written this book in 2019 and 2020, and other than edits, didn't revisit it again until I listened to the audiobook (Blackstone Publishing.) It was fun, listening to a story I'd written over two years ago, brought back to life thanks to an award-winning narrator!

I am so glad I picked this up. I absolutely LOVED this book! From the very first page, I was completely hooked and honestly couldn’t stop reading. It’s one of those rare stories that pulls you in so deeply that the rest of the world just fades away.
What made it so special for me was the deep personal connection I felt with the main character. Jill Hannah Anderson writes with such raw honesty that I felt like I was living every setback and every victory right alongside her. Watching her life "unravel" was emotional, but her journey toward finding herself again was incredibly inspiring and relatable. If you’re looking for a beautifully written story about resilience and starting over, you have to read this!

A Life Unraveled was a gripping and emotional book about resilience and courage. I relished this well-paced, heartfelt story about family, failings, and forgiveness.

In short, this was a story of a loving family facing an attack that transformed their life and how they coped with the changes.

I loved how the main character, Lily, drew compassion from the reader. You can’t help but feel empathy for her after her attack. There were so many events and circumstances that started to spiral downward that I wanted to drop into her life to help straighten it out. The family dynamics that came into play stressed honesty and communication; and I found all these elements distinctly relatable.

In all, this was one of the most fulfilling, heartbreaking, and heartwarming stories I have read and it will stay with me. I will be reaching out to read/listen to another novel of Jill Hannah Anderson’s soon! (audio)

I've come to feel Jill Hannah Anderson is a master at writing about rebuilding life after tragedy and A Life Unraveled did not disappoint. You really will feel you have stepped into the life of Lily and her Husband along with their daughters and extended family. Tragedy strikes when Lily is out for her morning run and is violently attacked. Early on we learn the identity of her attacker and the story focuses on the entire family's healing, including the teenage angst of her oldest daughter and I loved that all these areas, addiction to pain medication, marital issues, mistrust, all of it so real. Early in Lily's recovery process I started to feel like something was not quite right, and that I couldn't put my finger on it, kept me reading to the twisty end. I was hooked by the end of Chapter One and truly cared about the characters. I recommend this perfectly written heartbreaking story of hope and redemption for those who enjoy Women's Fiction with a bit of suspense added. Bravo Ms. Anderson!! Well done!

A well-plotted combination of Women’s fiction and a mystery. Lily, the main character has to face her demons, which takes time and effort. The solution to the mystery is by no means obvious, which I liked, and hinged around the violent attack perpetrated on Lily for no apparent reason. Her injuries lead to a dependency on painkillers that threatens all her relationships and her job, and brings to light other family secrets. The pacing keeps one turning the pages until the end, where much to my relief everything is brought to light, leaving a satisfying finish to the book. Slight trigger alert - child abuse in the past may cause some to hesitate before reading. It’s deftly handled and there are no unnecessary details just for the voyeuristic value.

I was lucky enough to get an advance copy of this book. The author has done it again - written a book that I could hardly put down. Lily has it all until she is attacked - life goes off the rails for her and I was really able to put myself in her shoes as she feels helpless and like she is going nuts.

A Life Unraveled by author, Jill Hannah Anderson
(ARC)

A Life Unraveled is an amazing piece of storytelling~ an atmospheric journey that I could not pull myself away from...

With her ability to draw me into her riveting, most creative and descriptive narrative, Ms. Anderson has most certainly crafted a 'grabber', one that within moments of beginning had me on the edge with eagerness as to what awaited in the chapters to follow.

A loving family, a tortuous act, and a community of ones who can be trusted~ and ones who cannot, all lead to a life-altering shift which knocks this close knit family off-balance, and dangerously so. With its layers that intensify with spiraling suspense and mystery, as well as flipping me upside down and right-side up again, lead to an incredible outcome, but not without several unexpected surprises along the way.

The unyielding courage and hopeful elements within this story~ ones that lead me through this experience, felt more real, than not. As my emotions whirled, my heart broke, and finally on to gaining a soothing sense of calm, this story more than met my expectations.

I thank the author, and Red Adept Publishing, for allowing me the opportunity to live this journey through the eyes of The Gallo Family~ their story is one I won't soon forget...

A LIFE UNRAVELED had me on the edge of my seat. A family drama with heart and soul, infused with a steady feeling of dread and suspense, this fantastic, gripping novel is about courage, communication, and forgiveness. I instantly connected with the main character, Lily Gallo, as she struggles for normalcy after a brutal attack, and Anderson expertly conveys how violence affects not only the victim but also her family. Layered and believable, vivid and compelling, it's a novel that perfectly showcases the beauty of an imperfect life.

Imagine living a normal “perfect” life with a good job, wonderful husband and family. Then imagine being attacked brutally while you are out doing your morning run one day, the attacker screaming “I hate you” over and over. You have no idea who it is. That is what happens to Lily in Jill Hannah Anderson’s latest novel, A Life Unraveled. What follows is not so much about WHO attacked Lily, but WHY. Finding the identity of her attacker was the easy part. What comes after is the mystery. Throughout the story the author injects just enough doubt as to the WHY to keep you reading well into the night.

I was lucky enough to receive an early copy of this book from the author to read and review. Having read and thoroughly enjoyed her two previous books, I was delighted to have this opportunity!

This has to be one of the top five audiobook for the year! The performance was superb! And the story, was gut wrenching at times and the twists had me continually turning pages! With this story, hearing it being read drew me in and connected me to the characters immediately! There where a few times that I had to walk away and not listen because I was so afraid that the author would do something and turn the story in a way that I didn't want to go. But then I would have to know! Absolutely a great story and this one, I recommend listening over reading!

From the minute I picked up this book, I was drawn in. Jill’s storytelling feels like a first-hand account of an eye witness; very detailed and believable. After Lily is recovering from being brutally attacked, she becomes too reliant on opioids. When it gets out of hand, she makes more of an effort to ditch them-but did she? Strange occurrences make the reader-as well as Lily’s family- wonder why she’s behaving so irresponsibly with the kids, which as a kindergarten teacher is definitely out of character. As the mystery unravels, the reader is led down many paths as to the explanation of Lily’s bizarre behavior and the continuous acts of bullying directed at her. Finally, Lily discovers who is behind the vicious behavior towards her and her family when she spies on the convicted attacker being released from prison. Lots of twists along the way that keep the reader guessing where it’s all going to lead to. I was definitely taken off guard to find out who was behind the stalking and the twisted explanation.

Lily lives an idyllic life when she suffers a violent attack while out for a run. She discovers her attacker is the local high school football star and this discovery has serious repercussions for Lily and her family as they face the aftermath of what follows. This is the author's 3rd book and she has a knack for writing about traumatic events and the process of putting the pieces back together. There is an element of mystery as Lily's life seems to be sabotaged after her accuser is jailed. Someone is obviously out to get Lily, but who? I listened to the audio book and the narrator was excellent. A cross between Marin Irelend and Julia Whelan.

Wow! I haven’t read a book this fast in quite a while! I was sucked in from the very beginning and couldn’t put it down! I connected with Lily before even opening the book as I’m a mom of three, kindergarten parapro and, until recently, ran regularly. Thankfully, that’s where our similarities end!

Lily’s attack is unexpected and tragic but the year that follows is even more harrowing. So many unexplained events that left Lily, and those close to her, questioning her sanity. I had so many suspicions as the story played out but was still surprised when the truth was revealed, which was nice. I definitely recommend this book if you enjoy thrillers and suspense without gore. Such a great read!

lifetime movie at best

The best part of this book was the last 15 pages. Such a laborious story with what felt like word count fluff and unnecessary parts for the mismatched story line. At times had no idea what the author was trying to convey nor what genre it would fall under. Always willing to give Minnesota authors a try and really wanted to like this book, just couldn’t.
