One of the least helpful guide books I’ve ever purchased

You can find much better information online. I have no idea why this guidebook would be helpful to anyone. It gives such limited information on each port, which is the most important information that it could have provided.

My thoughts: 🔖99 of 696 Ch. 3 Cruise Lines and Cruise Ships - I love this book! This is exactly what I have been looking for I have to force myself to go to the next page because each area was so exciting I just wanted to reread and relish the information. This book is up-to-date and organized.
🔖482 Ch. 5 Ports of Call - I love the layout and breakdown of ships, however I was disappointed with the hotel and restaurant selections at the cruise port embarkation locations. They also didn't include transportation options from the hotel, although they claim the hotels would be those that are close to ports.
🔖628 Ch. 6 Inland Cruise Tour Destinations - This was the best part of the book for me (ports of call). I enjoyed checking out the restaurant menus through the links provided. I liked that the restaurants and activities were on the maps along with possible docking areas, but I would have loved it if there had been a more zoomed-in map option with more details of street names and such. I guess they are expecting you to rely on your phone for more details.

They have businesses listed by hotels, sights, restaurants, shopping, activities and nightlife. This is going to be the book I will be taking with me on my trip. I spent an hour watching videos about Tracy's King Crab Shack I was so excited after clicking on their website via this book. This book is well-organized and has a ton of current information. I feel so much better having read it.

Recommend to others: Yes. I highly recommend this particular guide over others.

Meh. If you’ve never cruised and need help researching cruise lines AND don’t have internet- this book is a must. For everyone else? Nah.
Over a third of the book covers cruise lines. I had bought with a booked trip in mind, wanted to learn more about cities and potential adventures. Unfortunately, towns covered are only a few pages each, with only obvious top 3-5 activities included. I know there are tons more not listed and I didn’t learn much of what is new.
I dog-earred three pages and I’ll keep the maps. But while I love a good planning book, this one did not really help with the dreaming phase.

This book is a must if you are thinking about cruise to Alaska. It gives the reader description of the choices you have to when deciding which cruise line to use and what excursions to think about. I had already chosen the cruise line before I purchased the book. Too bad, I may have gone with a different cruise line.

I'll check this out again from the library if/when I plan an Alaskan cruise to plan port excursions.
