"Streams in the Desert" is Jeff's sixth book and it addresses the topic of suffering, whether it be the loss of a loved one, the loss of a job, or a relationship, a dream or a pet. Tragedies such as suicide and the opioid crisis are at an all time high but there is much we can learn and hope to be found even in the midst of suffering.
"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11 NIV.
"Streams in the Desert" is a compilation of scenes from Jeff's travels combined with Scripture that can provide hope and displace despair.
This beautiful hardbound coffee table book includes 80 pages of images created throughout the world and measures 6.5"x9.5" in a horizontal format.
I love photography and have been consumed with creating images ever since I traded a gun for my first camera. After obtaining a BA in Art from Transylvania University in 1981, I completely switched over to photography as my primary medium for expression. Since 1988, I have been creating award winning images for the advertising and corporate world, regularly seeing my images in national magazines. Even though I have completed many, many jobs for clients, nothing gives me more personal satisfaction than exploring landscape photography. To date, there are now six beautiful and successful coffee table books that I have published and contributed all the photography. My work is used often in public spaces, hospitals (love having my work in healing environments) and homes.
I wish I had a picture of the cover of this book. That seems important to include when it's a photography book.
It's important to note that this book is NOT the same book as the classic Mrs. Cowman's devotional compilation by the same title, although they both got their titles from the reference to the Biblical verse Isaiah 35:6 "Water will gush forth in the wilderness and streams in the desert." NIV. Or perhaps, Isaiah 43:19
"See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland." NIV
The photography is beautiful. Stunning. Most of the pictures are scenery from the American west, and it is striking how they emphasize the words of the scripture included.
I came across this book in a dr's office waiting room, and was surprised to see that I know the author's name, even if I haven't met him, as he's the husband of an acquaintance of mine. (He calls her Melissa in the about-the-author blurb; I always knew her as Missy!) I've heard the author mentioned by a lot of mutual acquaintances as a good man associated with Wellspring Prayer Center - so many mutual acquaintances that it's probably surprising that I haven't met him in person by now.
It's probably funny that after my dr.'s visit, I returned to the waiting room to finish flipping through the book and enjoying the photography before I skedaddled.
I had not thought of this book in terms of the topic of suffering or grief until I read the online synopsis from Jeff Rogers Photography website, https://www.jeffrogers.com/streams-de...
I thought of it only in terms of the stunning pictures and the inspirational quotes. I don't think you have to be suffering or grieving to appreciate this book, and actually, this is the sort of book that's probably better to read before suffering enters the picture, and to revisit when it does.
Not only would I reread this book (5 stars), but I would consider giving it as a gift.
