From New York Times bestselling author Joanne DeMaio comes The Goodbye, Book 16 of The Seaside Saga.
How do you know when it's goodbye? When something's over. When it's the last perfect day of the summer. When it's the last time you'll see a face, hear a voice. The last time you'll close a shingled cottage's door. How do you know when you'll never be somewhere again, that you've had your last glimpse of a certain sea?
For the tangled cast of beach friends in Stony Point, it's a question some of them face. Because as the golden late-summer sun shines, goodbyes are due. But to whom?
And The Seaside Saga continues.

Joanne DeMaio is the prolific New York Times bestselling author of The Seaside Saga and other novels. She lives with her family in Connecticut and is currently at work on upcoming books.
In The Goodbye, the beach friends' story continues where The Wait left off. Author Joanne DeMaio transports the reader back to the tranquil seashore town of Stony Point, Connecticut. The story picks up in early September, where our beach friends lives are like the tides, sometimes they keep moving and changing.
In The Goodbye, Author Joanne DeMaio easily captivates her readers' attention with this beautifully written tale through a seamless and flowing storyline, and with a wonderful description of a tranquil beach setting that wraps itself around the reader like a sun-warmed beach towel. The characters draw you into their lives with a strong emotional pull, their complexities and flaws are true-to-life, it is easy to relate to them with compassion, empathy, and hope.
The Goodbye is an intricate story of interweaving friendships, life events, and deeply held secrets and drama. It is a wonderful story that continues to demonstrate the power of the magical sweet salt air that will cure what ails you. In this installment in The Seaside Saga Series, the author continues to weave a story that focuses on the ongoing marital strife between Jason and Maris that edges towards a resolution; Elsa's decision to stall the opening of The Ocean Star Inn, which causes resentment from Celia; and Elsa's predicament in deciding in the love triangle with Cliff Raines and Mitch Fenwick; and the blossoming secret relationship between Celia Gray and Shane Bradford.
In this sixteenth installment in the series, the author continues to keep the reader engaged as the beach friends continue to deal with ongoing and new issues: you can't help but hope that Maris and Jason can find their way back to each other when they finally reach a resolution; while feeling Elsa's angst over deciding between Cliff and Mitch, and how she will deal with the tension between her and Celia; and feel the love grow between Shane and Celia, even as they deal with the reality of a possible long-distance romance. At the end of the book, the author teases her readers with another cliffhanger ending: waiting on how each of these relationships will turn out, oh but there's more, she leaves the reader with an ending that will leave the reader feeling the full gamut of emotions, because it was never revealed who or what The Goodbye was meant for, I guess we'll just have to wait and see what is revealed in The Barlows, the seventeenth installment of the series ... sigh.
In this installment in the series, the reader follows along with the beach friends' lives that are full of friendship, love, secrets, regrets, challenges, heartbreak, grief, surprises, and second chances. As you read this installment, the beach friends continue along in their life journey in Stony Point.
So now that I have whet your interest in the beach friends latest comings and goings, drive under the railroad trestle and enter the enchanting beach town of Stony Point ... pull up a beach chair ... and visit with the close-knit longtime friends in author Joanne DeMaio's delightful novel, The Goodbye.
The Seaside Saga Series is a heartwarming series of stories of friendship, family, painful secrets, new beginnings and second chances. Author Joanne DeMaio weaves a wonderful tale written in the third person narrative, that is set in the present with flashbacks to the past. The reader is transported to the tranquil seashore town of Stony Point, Connecticut, where they follow along with Celia, Maris, Eva, Matt, Jason, Kyle, Lauren, Nick, Elsa, Cliff, and Shane as their lives change like the tide's ebb and flow on their little tranquil coastal town.
If you have ever read the Seaside Saga by Joanne DeMaio then you know that each book is awesome. It's best to read them in order. This installment of the series is Awesome. All I can say is that "she knocked it out of the park with this one". I am going to be on pins and needles waiting for the next book in the series to release. I just can't get enough of the friends at Stony Point.
You have Cliff and Elsa and Mitch, then there is Jason and Maris. Shane and Cecilia. As with any group they are always there for each other and when one is hurting so are the rest. i really enjoy the closeness that the group has while still living their own lives but if one needs them the others are there immediately. Sometimes even when you want to be just left alone.
Check out the book I think you will enjoy it as much as I did.
The Seaside Saga is such a wonderful series. I have become so comfortable with the inhabitants of Stony Point and consider them my friends now. I love visiting them with each new book!
The Goodbye did not disappoint. There is plenty of drama going on—along with a good share of friendship, support, forgiveness, and love. I enjoy watching the characters move on with their lives and hopefully find the happiness they are searching for.
At the end of each book, I am left wanting more—more of the beautiful setting, more of the camaraderie among old friends. That feeling has never been stronger than with the ending of this book. The author leaves the reader with a definite cliffhanger this time. I'm so excited to read the next story to see that cliffhanger resolved.
I highly recommend the Seaside Saga series and The Goodbye is another great installment in this heartwarming series.
Book #17, The Barlows, is scheduled to be released on March 1, 2023!
The Goodbye by Joanne DeMaio was another great read in the long series of this seaside saga. When I say long, I mean in the most positive way as I want more and more and more. Every book ends with a cliffhanger and this one was no different and it was a doozy. This installation brings the Stony Point gang back together focusing on Celia and Shane and Elsa, Cliff and Mitch and Jason and Maris. I won’t say anymore as I don’t want to give it away. If you’re a fan read this soon and if you have not read any of her books yet start at the beginning you’re in for a treat. Enjoy
The Goodbye (The Seaside Saga Book 16) by Joanne DeMaio Like this book for the new words I'm learning, the new locations the characters visit and the old ones revisited. More secrets come out from many sources and some don't like the way things are going and try to change them.... Love scene in Maine where he puts the waitress in her place: forceful but not threatening, she gets it! Renovations and things really happen. Can't wait to see the creation Maris is designing. Love excerpts from Neil's journal, so precious. So many gems in this one, see how many treasures you can find. Love all the situations and how they survive the difficult ones and work around the others. Laugh, cry, emotional times, thought provoking as things are disclosed from 10 years prior. Pieces are fitting together nicely.
If you enjoy reading series and books that are beach theme related, then this is the perfect series for you! Joanne DeMaio writes a seaside saga about the most wonderful group of people that I feel I have come to know and love. The books take place in Stony Point, Connecticut, right along the beautiful shores where you breath in the sweet salt air while watching the ocean stars as they reflect on the water. Her descriptive writing of the beach cottages, the shoreline and the dune grasses are all pictured in my mind as I’m reading and it brings such a calm and peacefulness over me. It’s complete relaxation and enjoyment! The Goodbye is the 16th book in the series and it is where Jason and Maris work through their issues and reunite. It’s also where Shane, my favorite character, has to say goodbye as he returns to Maine to resume work out to sea where he’s a lobsterman. Elsa and Celia are at a crossroad when it comes to the decision over the opening of the Inn. And Elsa is still undecided and not sure how to handle her dilemma between Cliff and Mitch. Just when I thought things were looking up for Jason and Maris, the author has done it again and left me hanging at the end wondering what’s to become of Maris as she slams on the brakes! Will there be darkness ahead for the Barlow’s or will their love see them through? I’m patiently waiting to read The Barlow’s, which is book 17 in this Seaside Saga and is set to release on March 1, 2023, to see where the story goes from here. This is a beach series that I have come to love and I can’t recommend it enough. The descriptive scenery is stunning but it’s the stories characters that you will come to love the most. I’m giving this another much deserved 5 star rating!
I anxiously awaited the release of "The Goodbye" and wasn't disappointed when it came out. I have read all the books in the Seaside Saga series, and I think this is the fasted I have finished one of the books! It was so well written. I love Joanne's style of writing which puts you right in the characters' lives and makes you really feel a part of them. "The Goodbye," although it sounds like a sad title, is actually a book of hope and joy. Some of the characters are able to resolve issues that have been plaguing them. I actually felt relief when reading this book. And, as always, Joanne has left us with a cliff-hanger which has me hoping that the next book, "The Barlows" comes out really soon!
I always look forward to returning to Stony Point and the characters who feel like friends. Summer is at its end for Jason, Maris, Celia, and Shane, and with it there are changes coming for all of them. In her intimate style, the author sets the stage for these couples, whose lives and loves are tangled and messy, but always filled with warmth and affection. Goodbyes are always hard, and the residents of this beach town know how that is, having had some goodbyes of their own. Now that I’m finished with this book, The Goodbye, I look forward to saying hello again in the next installment of this favorite series.
The Goodbye is a very special yet emotional addition to the Seaside Saga. We immediately slip back into the magical beach town of Stony Point. It’s now at summer’s end and most of the cottages are empty. Instead of the ocean stars sparkling in the sunlight, we are now drawn to the moon dropping a swath of light over the dark waters. It’s a time when our beach friends can fully embrace the town that holds years of memories. Yet despite how special their relationships, at times they can become very fragile. We are left with secrets and outcomes yet to be revealed until The Barlows (Book 17) is released.
I absolutely love The Seaside Saga series and Author Joanne DeMaio doesn’t disappoint her readers with her newest release, The Goodbye. This series keeps you riveted with the small town atmosphere and quaint community of friends and family, that you feel like a part of their daily life and wished you lived there yourself. The only part I dislike (lol) is waiting for the next book in the series. If you haven’t read Joanne DeMaio’s books, start with this series and you won’t be able to put it down. Sit back and enjoy!
I have to admit that the title frightened me; and there are many goodbye opportunities throughout the story. Several relationships - Jason and Maris, Shane and Celia, Elsa and Cliff, Elsa and Mitch - are fleshed out, much like the progress of Driftwood. I’m a big fan of the Addison series, and I enjoyed the brief crossover. And I apologize if I put the Goodbye Girl lyrics in your head (as it is now in mine) until “the barrows” is released on March 1, 2023.
Author Joanne DeMaio has added to her series of the seaside saga with a deeply moving continuation of the separation of Jason and Maris. As a reader you want everyone in Stoney Point to be happy, but it just doesn’t seem that it’s ever going to happen. But then, just as Joanne brings some of our favorites together, she brings us to the edge again with a real cliffhanger. There will be a lot of us waiting for the next book and not too patiently. I received an ARC from the author. This review is my honest opinion.
OMG what an emotional story in the Seaside Saga series. This installment really tugged at my heartstrings. Loved seeing Jason & Maris and Celia and Shane together, sad for Elsa who is going through various emotions over things happening in her life, and am in awe at how the Stony Point friends come together to help each other out. Highly recommend to all romance fans and East Coast lovers.
I have absolutely loved the Seaside Saga since the 1st book Blue Jeans and Coffee Beans, I admit the title had me a little concerned. Everytime I read one of the books I feel as if I’m visiting old friends and these old friends I don’t want to say goodby to, of course there are goodbyes but there is also the next visit to Stony Point. I love the BeachSide Saga and I highly recommend these books, promise you won’t be disappointed .
Absolutely amazing! I get whisked away to Stony Point to visit with a remarkable group of friends. I feel every emotion that Joanne brilliantly brings to life. Their friendship and love for each other is heartwarming. I would love to spend the day strolling the beach and having a wonderful conversation with Marie and Jason. If you haven’t read any of Joanne DeMaio’s books, get started today. You will become a fan quickly.
OMG, ANOTHER WINNER! I absolutely love this book and I’m so happy with all the characters and how the things are coming together. I have read every single one of her books and they just keep getting better and better. If you have never read one you really need to. Thank you for writing us such great books Joanne!
As usual I tried to read this slowly but was so sucked in by the dramatic storylines..I finished it in a couple of days. The cliffhanger at the end of the goodbyes another breathtaking ending. I will be anxiously awaiting to see what happens in the Barlows.
Once again I was entranced by this sequel to Joanne DeMaio's beautiful writing of the Sea Side Saga books! I felt like I was immediately at the sea side feeling the waves ebb and flow into the sand as I sink into the lives of Maris, Jason, Cecilia, Shane and their romances either on or off again ...and then there is Elsa who is still torn between her budding adventures with Mitch or her supposedly love with Cliff and the stalling of opening the Ocean Star Inn. The goodbyes are the questions that keep me wrapped around each of their lives, the real live feelings, secrets, regrets, beginnings or endings of these love relationships - some so new, others longstanding that are heartbreaking. The detailed description of the settings are magical - something you dream of being there -that pulls you right into the beauty and charm of a perfect place to stay forever... but all things are not forever and this book leaves lots of questions still to be answered. It's always wonderful to anticipate the next book.
It was so much fun to go back to the beach at Stony Point and catch up with the friends. Some friends and family members reconnect while others are still at lose ends in work and love. At times I could smell the sea breeze and wish I was there. As always you are left waiting for the next book.
I have been reading this series for a few years always looking forward to the next book. I feel at home with the characters now and am awaiting anxiously with them as each new event changes and reshapes their lives.
I know when JoAnne DeMaio’s books drop I need to clear my schedule for the day because I want to do nothing but read it. The Goodbye is no exception!!! Another grand slam in the Sea Saga Series!
