My life has certainly taken a turn for the better ever since I found the hidden underground dungeon in my backyard.
But living two lives is certainly not easy.
Not only do I have to contend with nosy neighbors and a sketchy Irishman who fences my loot, but there’s still the problem of my wife’s crazy half-brother hanging over my head.
I know the bastard chief is in league with Demons, but I won’t be able to take him out on my own.
So, I’ll need to make allies of the remaining Night Elf tribes and prepare for the worst.
This series is simply amazing and as there are more books it just gets better!
New threats both in the Gloom and on the surface, old enemies causing problems and a trip into the twilight region!
Seeing more of the Gloom, it's resident people and monsters and further development of characters is awesome, and with the hints dropped through the book and that revelation at the ending...
New Adventures with a family in and out of the Gloom
This book adds to the story and what had been built before. The OP MC adds to his harem but we also get a lot more slice of life experiences. What I like is Eddie isn't aspiring for more wealth, wealth, power and sex. He wants his family to grow into future generations. He wants a place safe for his friends. And I like how diversity and indivuality can co-exist. An example for our times. But then all is good when you're the king at the top.
This was another fun addition to the Backyard Dungeon series. The book continues to provide a nice relaxation and fun story with diverse characters and interesting monsters. This book allows us to further investigate Ursenger’s dealings with the Demon Lords of the Twilight region and introduces to the third clan of night elvers, a new potential wife for Eddie, in a Orc Shaman, and continues his development at a military leader. It also continues to build the legend of Eddie amount the Night Elves and denizens of the Gloom as he strengthens his reputation as a bad ass fighter. The continued development of his relationship with Nileme is also built upon in this book and we see some added twists with his surface life and expansion of his home and Cul-de-sac kingdom. This book adds to the enjoyment of the Backyard Dungeon series. The books are fun, easy to read and move nicely. It’s a nice blend of action, adventure and Eddie’s Harem exploits. I enjoy the characters and the balance of The Gloom and his surface time. This book fits a nice niche for me, allowing me to take a nice relaxing fantasy break from heavier history and world-building books I like to read. I continue to look forward to seeing what Mr. Jacobs’ has in store for Eddie and his quest to free Ibseth from her marauding step-brother.
I like harem lit stuff, but often times it can come off as tacky, as though all the non-sexual elements of the story are merely poorly constructed vessels to get you from one sex scene to the next. Not so with this series. The sexy portions are great, but do not overshadow the characters, scenarios, and overall concept. I like harem lit, but it can come off a bit like old school trashy romance novels. This is not that. This is better. I look forward to the next installment.
Love this series. I can read these books for free with my kindle unlimited subscription but after the getting half way through the first book I bought it and every one after. I thought they were that good and I wanted to own them. My only problem is that I feel the books are a lil short, it took me less than 3 days to read this one. Hopefully the next one comes out soon.
This series is still good enough for me to keep reading it. The sex scenes aren't really necessary, but they're not extraneous either. I don't like the way the tone of his wiring/characters changes for the sex scenes though. They just feel inconsistent.
Otherwise the story and the action are still great, and the world he's built is intriguing. And I do like the way he handles a lot of things. So yes, I still recommend this series and this book.
Logan Jacobs continues to amaze me. With just the right mix of adventure, fantasy and spicy romance, Book 4 in the Backyard Dungeon series delivers a great read. As a writer, I read these books to study a master at work. You'll read them because they're some of the best examples of tasteful harem fiction in a fantasy setting. Again, highly recommended. (Starting to read book five now!)
Lots of ads for the author's Patreon. Want to look at a map of the lands? Gotta pay extra. Says there's a FB fans page, but it doesn't respond. Fun read, though it's a little disconcerting that the heroes wives and other folks are rarely referred to as him or her, but by species. Seems a bit racist that way. Occasional, over-the-top sex, mostly the same "2 for you, then 1 for us".
This story continues to strike just the right balance between adventures above and below ground. There's some new additions to the household, even if some aren't new wives. The neighbor situation continues to heat up and there's some issues with Eddie's fence as well. Really looking forward to more.
It really felt too short i read the book in about a day which for me is astounding. I like the characters and story. Wish so much of recapping wasn't in this but understand why authors put them in. Waiting for the next installment and i hope it has more of him building up his house and properties
This is the best of series so far as I'm concerned. Logan is really into the Gloom world, but still has the surface world "BS" well in hand. Can't wait to see what happens next with the neighbors. The rest of the series was a good intro to the this book and I hope the series will be even better in the future.
Eddie is as lucky as he is Strong. He is kind, but he is also not going to take shit from bad guys. He has battles above ground as well as below and he feels that he is living a double life, which he is.
This was fun and exciting and I can't wait for the next book to be released.
As always a fast fun read!! Non-stop adventurous, excellent characters and battles!!! A definite non OP MC which really makes this story more interesting to read!! As always goid adult fantasy activities throughout the story!!!! More please
Eddie starts making plans to deal with the mad chief.
Eddie starts working on the alliance to remove the mad chief the princess visits the surface. They return to the gloom and stop a orc war chief. Their are three wife’s to take care of. A baby is on the way.
Without doubt this has become one of my favorite series, the premise and characters are a absolute joy to read about! Never a dull moment above and below the ground! I eagerly await the next one!
It's not my favorite series, but it's solid. Some interesting... twists? Foreshadowing? Cliffhangers kind of. Definitely leaves questions at the end of this one.
I'll read the next one cause I'm curious what the answers will be.
A typical “every man” protagonist thrown into a fantastic situation. The MC overcomes everything that both the real world and the fantastic one can throw at him. While not an Isekai work it has the same feel without ever leaving his backyard.
This story keeps getting better and better with each book that comes out. I can’t get enough of the blend of modern life and underground fantasy. I really hope the next book comes out soon, but I’ll patiently wait as much as needed. This series is worth it.
Each book gets better and better the more we learn about the gloom and its residents. The more we learn about the mad chief and his sinister connections the more we get to hate the evil chief and like the ones fighting him.
A great book for suspension of belief. The PM is likable and has enough back ground to make his exploits believable. The adult areas aren't too frequent and don't distract from the story line.
Like the old seriaized books from the past, this book picks up nicely from where the last one left off. The action is quick and the women are beautiful and the protagonist is a good dude. What more does one need in a pulp?
I sincerely hope that this isn't the final episode of this series. With the great characters and the way they all come together it seems a shame to quit now. If this is the last episode, I wonder what our heroes offspring will look like.
I fell in love with this series from the beginning and you have not let me down. Just finished this book! Can't wait to keep reading and see what happens to Edie and the gang as the family grows and all the cool new adventures!
Another solid entry with good pacing and development. Good amount of suspense going into the next book. Need this series to go the distance. Starting Book 5 ASAP
The tension is slowly creeping up and that's great, but the relationships of the building family are still the best part. I find myself re-reading these for the sheer fun of it.
Eddie can do anything. Ranged weapons? Of course! Hand to hand combat? The best! Leader of warriors? Unparalleled! But somehow the most interesting part of the book is the home on Earth parts. Almost forgot: New wife, and dogs. Tom out
I like this story it has some good details that flush out the story and the characters are well done. there is lots of things going on and they all mesh together for a great story.
