Real-life stories from survivors of cancer and other diseases who have used the 9 key factors from the New York Times best-selling Radical Remission, with updated research and a tenth key factor revealed.
Following the publication of the New York Times best-selling Radical Remission, researcher Kelly A. Turner, Ph.D., has collected hundreds of new cases of radical remissions--from cancer and now also other diseases--from across the globe. In Radical Hope, Turner explores the real-life application of the Radical Remission principles and the people who have chosen to take this journey.
Each chapter shares a survivor's in-depth story and their use of one of the ten key Radical Remission healing factors. Turner provides updated scientific research and new tips for each factor, and unveils a tenth key factor for integration into your healing approach. Male and female, young and old, these survivors recognize that by taking ownership of their approach to healing, they are giving themselves the best chance for a longer and healthier life, with the ultimate goal of achieving remission.
With warmth, realness, and a true sense of hope, Turner shines the spotlight on the pure strength of the human spirit and offers steadfast support and guidance for making the unique and individual decisions that lead to a powerful journey of healing.
Dr. Kelly Turner is a researcher, lecturer, and consultant in the field of integrative oncology. Her specialized research focus is the Radical Remission of cancer, which is a remission that occurs either in the absence of conventional medicine, or after conventional medicine has failed. Her research is summarized in her upcoming book RADICAL REMISSION (HarperOne, March 18, 2014), available wherever books and e-books are sold. Dr. Turner has a B.A. from Harvard University and a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley. When she's not studying incredible cases of healing, you'll find her either cozying up in Brooklyn with her family, waterskiing, or screenwriting. This a good follow up to the authors first book, Radical Remission. It includes in-depth stories of many (20 plus) people who overcame terminal cancer, as well as a couple of other diseases (Alzheimer's and multiple sclerosis). There are updates on recent research and an excellent bibliography. This book would be an encouraging resource for someone with cancer who wants to take active and aggressive lifestyle changes to treat their disease. It is also an excellent resource for any health practitioner. I am a nutritionist and Turner’s two books helped me to realize the power of all of these lifestyle factors, not just diet, to prevent or reverse disease.
Radical Hope by Kelly Turner is both inspiring and helpful in practical ways. I actually listened to the audio version while riding my exercise bike throughout the month but I can't find the Audible version listed on Goodreads.
I thoroughly enjoyed the inspiring stories in each chapter. Many of them were stories about people who were surviving cancer, but other diseases such as multiple Sclerosis and Alzheimers were also featured.
I actually think everyone should listen to this book or read it. Maybe we could all improve our lives and avoid some diseases before we even get them if we applied the principles in this book. Exercise, healthy diet, a healthy spiritual life, and supplements certainly can help many people, including me. However, what I really needed to focus on was healing from trauma, PTSD, and building and maintaining healthier relationships after having moved several times. I am a work in progress and it does takes time. Everyone likely has different areas to work on. This book highlights how all aspects of our lives work together for our overall health. There are ten areas that help people with diseases become survivors.
Radical Hope was written in an interesting way with a mix of information and personal stories as well as guidance. I highly recommend it to anyone and everyone.
I read this book after finishing her first book, Radical Remission. I absolutely loved Radical Remission, because it was full of stories of normal people making changes that anyone could make to their lives, and then surviving cancer. When I felt despair, I would pick up that book, and it made me feel hopeful. It was an absolute lifesaver at a time when I felt so much fear.
I couldn’t wait to read Radical Hope, as I thought it would be more uplifting stories of regular people. However, it was one story after another of mostly wealthy people who spent incredible amounts of money going to the very best treatment centers and then beating cancer, which is great for them, but not attainable for most people. I only felt discouraged reading this book. I felt like, I’m really happy for you that you could spend a year and god only knows how much money at this clinic, but that’s not possible for most people. This book lost all of the magic of the first book for me.
If you have a chronic illness or are worried about having one, read this book and/or Radical Remission. People heal themselves every day. This book doesn’t preach eschewing traditional medicine, but instead focuses on changes others have made: exercise, food, friends, meditation, and more. I give Radical Remission to anyone I know diagnosed with cancer. I’ll add this one as well.
Overall, well written. I appreciate that non cancer diseases were covered, as well as a variety of types of cancer. I find some of the cited studies questionable but nonetheless feel there is enough evidence to support the need for all 10 factors.
I recently attended a Cancer Walk that raised funds for cancer research. It included talks from many cancer survivors and there was often a common thread: People were told by their doctors that they had X months to live before they died. Rather than simply accept the diagnosis, many of the patients sought out other possibilities, ultimately leading them to the work of Dr. Armando Sardi, who was able to, through surgery, bring them to a point of remission. While none of this has a technical connection to the books "Radical Remission" and "Radical Hope" there is a similar experience between the speakers I heard and the people whose lives are documented in this book.
I have not read "Radical Remission" but this book is a sequel of sorts. The authors believe that there are ten common threads that bind together the remissions that were brought about in the patients discussed. Among them are exercise (new for this book), social support, supplements and intuition. Each of the stories that are told in the book illustrate one of the Radical Remission principles and how each particular person applied it to their life. The authors take pains to point out that each person lived out all ten of the principles in addition to the one that is highlighted in the chapter. Each chapter concludes with helpful, practical steps that the reader can take to put the principle to work in their own life.
"Radical Hope" provides just that, especially for people who are living with a cancer diagnosis. Each example is a person who did not simply accept what doctors told them would be their outcome. At the same time, the book never undermines traditional medical care. Rather, it highlights success stories that have come from stepping outside of traditional treatment, especially when traditional treatment is not getting the results the individual is seeking. As a coincidence, earlier this year, I had read "The Ageless Brain" by Dr. Dale Bredesen (Who is also discussed in Chapter 10) and "Outlive: The Science and Art of Longevity" by Dr. Peter Attia. It is hard to miss the overlaps between the three books: The danger of toxins, inflammation, processed foods and (sorry) sugar, on the one had. On the other, the benefits of good nutrition, psychological health, good diet and exercise. This is a great book with lots in it even if you are cancer-free in terms of preventing an occurrence. Most importantly, it provides alternatives to those struggling with cancer and perhaps most importantly, hope.
I’ve read both Radical Remission and Radical Hope, and am incredibly grateful to Dr. Turner for her work and for sharing it in such as accessible way. I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in the spring and had begun figuring out a healing path. While I had already started on some of the approaches (radical change in my diet, supplements, exercise, meditation), Dr. Turner’s book pulled it all together for me and made the path clearer and easier. After I’d read Radical Remission, I wondered if Radical Hope would offer enough different material to warrant the time to read it. It absolutely does! It adds a 10th healing factor (exercise), additional practical steps to support each healing factor and includes many inspiring stories. I appreciated the non-cancer cases too (MS and Alzheimer’s). Overall: very informative, well-written and inspiring!
This is Kelly A Turner's sequel to 'Radical Remission' and is co-written by Tracy White. In this book we see how ten key healing factors (exercise has been included this time) play their part in some remarkable recoveries from cancer, MS and Alzheimer's. People who read 'Radical Remission' and applied its nine key healing factors, responded to the call to share their stories via the 'Radical Remission' website. It is from these stories that 'Radical Hope' draws its inspiration.
Like the previous book, it is rich in science, resources and references for further reading and it is the individual stories from the survivors that sparkle the most. The late co-writer Tracy White suffered from cancer herself and her contribution and perspective bring an added poignancy and insight, making this book a highly recommended read for anyone suffering from cancer or other life-limiting illness.
This book was recommended by a work friend whose family members are cancer survivors. I picked it up in hope to find answers to dad’s cancer. There’s no silver bullet of course nor is any of the factors backed by rigorous science. Nevertheless, I see the reasoning behind the wholistic approach to treating cancer with diet, mind, environment on top of pathology. Some interesting topics mentioned by the book such as metabolic approach to cancer and integrative oncology may be worth reading up more on.
As a person living with cancer, I will not be doing coffee enemas as recommended in this book. Although there are lots of studies credited overall in this book, I had hoped they would be more robust. That said, I am trying to incorporate most of the healing factors, such as releasing suppressed emotions, diet, exercise...essentially all 10 with the exception of most supplements (I take Vitamin D)
I thought this would be an interesting balance of strategy and story but it was a slog. The factors described mostly make sense in terms of buttressing your immune system, but in the end the book was kind of vague and blame-y.
Truly hopeful and inspiring. So well written and informative. Shares so much. I took my time reading and absorbing each and every chapter and word. I loved the first book. Loved this one as well.
This book is giving me new hope for my husband's cancer prognosis. A wonderful read to give you insight to alternatives to, or in conjunction with traditional cancer treatment.
Highly recommend, every reader will learn something in these pages. I didn’t read the first book Radical Remission, you don’t need to in order to follow this one.
This is like a workbook and similar to the Radical Remission book. While the case studies of remission are mostly cancer cases there are other illness including Alzheimers that can be reversed ! Chapter ten is Sally's Story a. bit of a tease though gives you clues on applying elements of the ReCODE protocol. Otherwise there are ten areas of our lives and lifestyles that we can transform to heal and prevent this serious illnesses. Also as a follow up Kelly A Turner's first book, Radical Remission, this book Radical Hope adds Exercise and essential to address to enhance our health and healing. There are nine other factors and a good easy to read book. Each chapter can stand on it's own. In other words you can read it in per chapter.
This book is an excellent supplement to traditional cancer treatment approaches for anyone who wants to add a holistic element to their own healing. Kelly Turner discusses 10 key elements that contribute to healing, including a positive attitude, diet, and exercise.
Great book if you're looking for validation of the mind body connection. I purchased this book after watching Hope online. There are stories of inspiration and hope. Worth the read if you're having questions about your medical treatment and what possibilities are out there.
