Four young American women form an unlikely bond as they search for sapphic love and the meaning of life in London.
Taylor Elliott, an aspiring writer with few practical life skills, is on her last chance when she moves to London to work for the father she barely knows. Her world is turned topsy-turvy by a woman who’s so wrong for her she might actually be right.
Emma Garfield is a talented but stubborn chef from the American South who dreams of running her own Michelin-starred restaurant, but her temper gets her into hot water. She gives relationships a hard pass, but could her latest fling be different?
Jasmine Singh is a perpetual graduate student who was born and raised in Ohio. She has every step of her life planned to perfection, including marrying her very nice boyfriend, Dave, until a curious spark throws it all off course.
Lexi Channing is the biracial adopted daughter of a prominent Wall Street family in New York City. When she isn't dealing with the world's most demanding client, she's pining for her straight best friend.
T. B. Markinson is an American writer, living in England. When she isn't writing, she’s traveling the world, watching sports on the telly, visiting pubs in England, or taking the dog for a walk. Not necessarily in that order.

3.5stars! Telling sapphic tales from around the world and across international waters has steadily become the norm for these two great authors (Markinson & MacLeod) and so 'A LONDON LOVE STORY' have seems to that exact literary cue which will continue into a series. Subversive, sometimes entertaining and a tad bit sparkless but 'A LONDON LOVE STORY' is also a bold and unfettered subjective narrative that may at times challenge readers every assumptions about it's unique context of this rinse-and-repeat love affairs and that shying away from bickering about the cultural differences of the US v the UK. Making it appear as a taboo vibe. It's about four female friends along with their close families; who bond through their friendships/relationships, out to find love, reflect on their outlook about life and love plus dreams/career goals coming to fruition etc.. Each character's dialogues and personalities are very distinctive. They talk, laugh, cry, help each other make choices & plans, has flaws & all plus is brash. All these elements are an ode to their growing friendships. In end, the storytelling was okay and might even be an enjoyable read to others but would they like the offbeat cliffhanger ending and be anxious for the next book? Well, read to find out.
Finally a sapphic audiobook that has gotten the dual narration concept right! I'm always wary of dual narrations because the narrators always divide the work by chapters instead of characters resulting in characters having different voices and this annoys me very much. The bulk of the narration for this audiobook and the voices of the American characters are by Lori Prince while her fianceé Marisa Calin voices the British characters. Both did an incredible job and I had a pleasant experience with it.
This story itself is entertaining, funny at times and I was hooked. It has four main characters - Taylor, Emma, Lexi and Jasmine - with each of them trying to discover certain things about themselves. There is more than one romance that develops and I found myself anxiously looking forward to them playing out. But there's prolonged lover's torture / pining and I realise by the end of it that it spills over to a second book that is not out yet. So argh!
Good audiobook, entertaining storyline and for those who are interested, this is also available on Kindle Vella and Kindle Unlimited.
A London Love Story Season 1 by TB Markinson and Miranda MacLeod, narrated by Lori Prince and Marisa Calin
A very enjoyable audiobook for an entertaining story
Every time that the subject of multiple narrators for a single book comes up among audiobook fans, there seems to be an agreement that instead of reading alternate chapters, we wish they would read the entire book together, each narrator performing the same character throughout. Normally we lament that it would be a logistics nightmare as the narrators would need to be recording in the same booth together, making that very hard to achieve. But... what if one of the most celebrated Sapphic audiobooks narrators would actually share a booth with her fiancee who is also a narrator? For all of us Sapphic audiobooks fans, our dreams just came true!
A London Love Story was born as a Kindle Vella series, an Amazon product in which US-based authors publish serialized stories, one short episode at a time. After a while, authors are allowed to publish the episodes as a whole book and audiobook. Season 1 was originally published as episodes 1 to 80 and the authors promote it as The L Word meets Sex and The City.
The series follows the lives of four American women living in London in search of love. Taylor Elliot is an aspiring writer who ends up working in her dad's pub, Emma Garfield is a talented chef with a hot temper that always gets her in trouble, Jasmine Singh is a perpetual graduate student who is about to marry her boyfriend, and Lexi Channing is a biracial adopted daughter of a wealthy NY family who is secretly in love with her straight best friend.
I have to warn readers that this series ends up with a massive cliffhanger for all four main characters. The authors make this clear in the blurb but Miranda MacLeod promised in a recent newsletter post that they are planning on writing Season 2 soon which will be the final season and guarantees that all ladies will have a happily ever after. According to the author, Season 2 will be available in Kindle Vella first and as an ebook and audiobook by the end of the year. So if you don't like cliffhangers, there's the option to wait until then.
There was a bit of a talk on social media before the audiobook was out which included the release of a couple of funny audio excerpts (check them here: https://www.mirandamacleod.com/a-lond...). Marisa Calin, Lori Prince's fiancee, has a great British accent and as this story has both American and British characters, they were both a perfect match to narrate this book.
The majority of the characters are American so most of the book is narrated by Lori Prince but Ms. Calin performs the British characters and the moments when they are together are the best of the audiobook. Lori Prince's talent is well known to all Sapphic audiobooks fans but I was pleasantly surprised by both Ms. Calin's range of voices and her performance skills. I sincerely hope that they do more books together because their real-life chemistry is reflected in fiction too. Overall, a very enjoyable audiobook for an entertaining story. 5 stars.
Markinson and MacLeod never seem to run out of great ideas or new ways to tell stories. The London Love Story is proof of that. The multi-segmented story was originally published on the Kindle Vella platform by the duo in early December of last year. The 80 short installments, or episodes, were such a success that they decided to publish it in its entirety as a full length novel and as a audiobook.
For those unfamiliar with the Vella platform, it is a new offering from Amazon. The platform affords authors the ability to share serialized stories as ebooks with readers over an extended period of time, much like a soap opera stylized television series does. Though new to this platform, Markinson is not new to the idea. Her Girl Love Happens series was constructed with the same concept in mind. She’s released 3 books, or seasons, of this series thus far. MacLeod, too, has taken advantage of this multi-segmented storytelling style. Her Love’s Encore series is a story told over the course of three books.
In preparation for the ebook and audio distribution of London Love Story: Season 1, Markinson and MacLeod turned the Kindle Vella episodes into 16 chapters. At 430 pages, there’s a lot packed into this hefty book. However, the pace and flow are masterfully designed, generating immediate interest in the characters, setting and plot. As well-crafted and constructed Markinson and MacLeod’s new brainchild is, the real pièce de résistance lies in their collaboration with Lori Prince and her fiancée Marisa Calin. Markinson and MacLeod’s choice for narrators was wisely picked; Prince and Calin’s performance is nothing short of phenomenal. Their delivery and timing is pure perfection and their voice work is top-notch. They breathe personality into the storytelling; it’s absolutely refreshing and makes for a fabulous listening experience.
The story itself is set in London and centers around four women. It’s a lesbian soap opera of sorts with its scenes fading from one main character to the next. Friends and family of these intriguing leading ladies help elevate the drama and tension quite effectively, making the overall story arc more than fun. Season 1 of this tale ends with all four leading ladies’ arcs in cliffhangers, but Markinson and MacLeod promise to return shortly with more. They also promise to conclude the entire series with a HEA for each of the wonderfully complex and compelling women. However, it’s my hope that fans of this series don’t see that too soon! It’s also my hope that Prince and Calin return to narrate all future seasons!
Final remarks…
I love this collaboration between Markinson, MacLeod, Prince and Calin. The writing duo gives Prince and Calin so much to work with inside the constructs of this story, and these two narrators really run with it! Their performance not only enhances Markinson and MacLeod’s writing, it adds texture and color to each character and their respective narratives. A London Love Story: Season 1 is two thumbs up entertainment all the way. The writing is solid, the romance is fun, the sex is steamy and the narration is beyond fabulous. I hope to see more from all of these women.
Strengths…
Wonderful, enjoyable characters Immersive story world Intriguing, entertaining plot Impressive narration Playful and fun storytelling Steamy romance
There are four leads in this serial originally carried on Kindle Vella and now compiled as Season 1. Come along as we follow the ups and downs of Lexi, Emma, Jasmine and Taylor from different points of the USA and their adventures/misadventures in London, England. They each have distinctive plans, dreams and aspirations and we grow along with them as their friendship cements and matures. We learn about their families, the pressures brought to bear, anxieties and interlacing humor and the personal growth that needs to take place before confusing love is resolved. There is an abrupt end to Season 1 that I hope will be quickly handled next time around. Looking forward to the next phase of the foursome's adventures with love and life in Season 2.
4 stars. I really couldn’t stand the characters in this. I only liked Lexi and Vee. Emma, Taylor, and Jasmine were incredibly frustrating and unlikable characters and the romance between Emma and Taylor really didn’t work because I never felt like they even actually liked each other. So much animosity and they were really mean to each other and it just wasn’t fun to read about. Emma was constantly putting Taylor down and I genuinely hated her. She was verbally abusive and physically abusive to her coworkers and for some reason I was supposed to feel for her? She can go to hell.
However, the plot of this kept me interested and really helped this book from being like a two star. It read like a show and I can honestly say that I was never bored with it. It’s been a while since this has been released and there’s no book two yet which is a shame because this does end on a wild ass cliffhanger. While I absolutely despised majority of the cast of characters I would read the second one just to see what happens next.
Following the lives of Taylor, Emma, Jasmine, and Lexi, all Americans living in London. They strike up friendships and are all working towards their goals, sharing their lives and relationships with us.
This was great! As I have come to know and love, T.B. and Miranda has balanced the humor and drama in this story perfectly. We’re experiencing life with four very different women, all with unique situations that have brought them to this part of their life. As their friendships grew with one another, emotions and decisions also added to the complexities of their lives. Relationships, both between them all, and with external people, made some moments so intense and weaved an excited web to get tangled up in.
The way the story focuses on one or two characters at a time and what is going on in their lives at that moment made the story really fun. It offered an opportunity to get to know each of them a bit more personally than we would have done had they all been together each time. The mix of personalities brought so much variety to the story and I loved the contrast when they shared their views about what they thought about the events or assumed about each other.
So many fantastic moments throughout the story make it memorable, and also personal and relatable. I’m already excited by everything that happened for each and every one of them in this story and can’t wait to find out what happens next!
I want more of this story NOW! Yep, I’m having a tantrum. When will season 2 come out??
This writing duo of Miranda and TB are simply amazing. I’ve read all their collaborations to date and obviously loved them all. I hope the wait on this project will go by quickly.
Funny, engaging characters, plenty of drama, steamy bits, and missed connections! This is definitely worth a listen and I'm very much looking forward to the second season! **Bonus points that the two narrators are engaged irl <3 <3**
Took me a while to get into this story, but worth sticking with it. It’s not a HEA yet, but hopefully the story of four women set in London will develop and grow in the next series.
I'm always up for checking out new to me authors and with a unique concept, I thought I'd give this one a try. Apparently A London Lose Story was initially released in episode form so you could read it like a show. I don't know if that format would've worked for me, but I'm glad that I got to listen to all the episodes in one shot and didn't have to wait any time between.
A London Love Story focuses on 4 women who are figuring out different aspects of their lives. Lexi, Jasmine, Emma and Taylor, both American and British women are living their every day lives, but not everything is what it seems and more than 1 romantic relationship begins and one ends. There is so much more than this going on, but everything that was happening seemed pretty basic. It was more about how the characters were reacting to their situations, therefore a very character driven story which made it perfect for listening to an audio narration of this "story told in episodes".
The dual narration from Lori Prince and Marisa Calin was top notch. They voiced each and every character and gave them all different accents, making it easy to distinguish between each of them.. The sapphic storytelling between American and British characters was pulled off well. But I have to say, some parts felt a bit too long and I wish the ending would’ve been more an “ending”. This is a definitely a Cliffy and I felt it was just getting good and exciting when it left us. Kind of like when you watch a season of a show and they leave you hanging at the end and then we have to wait until the next season to see what happens. I’ll definitely be back for the next installation to see what’s next for our four characters as long as these two narrators return because they made my enjoyment of the story that much more.
There a lost dog, a dog double, a father and a bar. There best friends love and a miss opportunity of love. A story of friends coming together and sharing hard times and great meets together. A must read and a must continue.
Whirlwind start as the main characters are all introduced. I read at speed as I wanted to find what would happen next. What happened next was more great lines! As there are a few mains, each scene moves to different characters in a way that stays fresh and fast. I am glad I didn't read this as a serial as I like to read in my own time. However I am unable to read the next instalment in my own time as it’s not out yet!
I have mentioned a few times before, how much I like the collaborations between TB and Miranda. This, of course, isn’t the exception. This was a great way to start this new series or seasons of love stories set in London.
I loved it, from beginning to end. The only reason why I am giving it 4.5 stars, it’s because I got lost a few times with so many characters, usually, I don't, but this time mostly at the beginning I got lost but then everything got into shape.
I was so invested in the story and the characters that when the book ended with that kind of cliff-hangers, I screamed. I want to read more ASAP. It's too good to stop there.
The plots and subplots are so intriguing and the characters are very likeable. I really enjoyed reading this and I am looking forward to the next season.
I received an ARC copy of the book, and I am voluntarily leaving my review.
Biggest mistake I made was reading this so soon. Now I need to wait however long TB and Miranda will need to cook the next season. But that's on me.
Now seriously, awesome reading, very fun. I was afraid the pace and this many characters would be a problem to me, and even though it was as fast as expected, it worked really well. So in the end the rhythm was very pleasant.
The characters are quite flawed, but not too badly hehe, so they are very likeable , but I should add that I felt like slapping a few times some of them ~*cough* Taylor and Emma *cough*~, but even though they got under my skin here and there, they grew on me like bad fungus. I liked a lot all the side characters, except the one who just showed up (if you read you know whom I'm talking about). One scene was more than enough.
I cannot wait to read the rest, unfortunately I can't read on Vella, but also waiting every chapter probably would get me deadededed, so... the universe knows better.
DNF. No rating. I think the authors were going for a lesbian Sex In the City style rom-com set in London. Unfortunately though, these women read like they are teens. And one character in particular says some wildly offensive shit that I think is supposed to be funny but completely missed the mark. For me.
No, Jasmine, you can’t assume your boyfriend is gay solely bc he drinks wine.
No, Jasmine, queer people do not groom children and raise them to be lesbians.
No, Jasmine, assaulting a woman you’re not attracted to won’t help you figure out if you’re attracted to women.
I wondered how this would turn out since it has 4 main characters: Emma, Taylor, Jasmine and Lexi. I think all are American but living in London. The authors did a great job weaving in and out of each story and making me care about all the characters, no matter how disagreeable they may have been in the beginning. I also did not expect the turns that the characters took. Just as I was pairing up this person with that one, then someone new comes along and now everything is different. I look forward to season 2.
Miranda and T.B. make an awesome duo and I love all the books that they've released together.
The characters in A London Love story are all interesting and it's quite a journey they're taking us on. This book has all the feels and I honestly can't wait for season 2!
It was great reading the girls getting together and forming the friendships that they did and some unspoken feelings…Unfortunately with this being season 1 it is to be continued. I am impatiently waiting for season 2 to see what direction the authors go. Enjoy!
I read the story on Vella and just had to get the audiobook. Having Lori Prince and Marisa Calin narrating was so special. Fantastic characters, each with their own storyline. Lexi is my favorite so far and I can't wait to see how she gets out of the situation the story left her in. So many questions to be answered when the series continues. I love it.
OMG.... I can't wait until season 2 is available. Miranda and TB have written a great season one... so much going on... and way to leave us hanging.... brilliant.. If I could adopt a dog like buttons I'd be made up
Well were to begin this book is truly amazing in the way it moves from one MC to another without taking a breath all I can say is LOVED IT and can't wait for part two
I enjoyed getting to know the various characters. The authors did a good job in helping us get to know each of them. I definitely have my favorites and look forward to the story continuing to unfold as the series continues.
What a wonderful story, I can’t wait for No 2. Between the four main characters and supporters, the storyline weaved colourful and emotional scenes. I love it, thank you Miranda and T.B.
This is a tale of doubles. Not only Written by TB and Miranda but narrated by Lori Prince and her wife Marisa Calin. I wonder how much fun they had portraying Lexi and Jas and arguing through Emma and Taylor with London as the backdrop. Good series cliffhanger
