In SECRETS OF A CELEBRITY PIANO TUNER, written by Jeff Baker, Jeff uses time away from piano tuning during the COVID pandemic to reflect on his career as a piano tuner. He offers vignettes of his career that include his encounters with various performers.

I like the setup of this book. After the Introduction, many of the chapters are devoted to recollections of his time encountering famous artists. His experiences are not as interesting as I had hoped. The book does offer insights into what he does for a living. I really enjoyed Secrets of a Celebrity Piano Tuner! It’s a fun, insightful peek into the world of showbiz, but from a perspective we rarely hear—someone behind the curtain, quietly keeping the music alive. The stories are short, entertaining, and full of charm, giving little glimpses into some of the biggest names in entertainment. I especially liked how casual and humorous the tone was—it felt like chatting with a witty friend who’s seen it all. I kept thinking, “This guy really lived it!”

Easy, fun, insightful, humorous. Great stories. Even the acknowledgements were terrific! I’m a piano guy who has his pianos tuned twice a year. As a music fan and a piano player, I looked forward to reading this. I like the short chapters, as well as the variety of celebrities included. However, it wasn't as interesting as the description led me to believe.

I eagerly read Jeff Baker's tale of his decades tuning pianos for celebrities.

As he takes the reader through his professional experience, he luridly name drops some of my favorite musicians past and present. I immensely enjoyed each of the sixty-two tales he chooses to share. He keeps each story brief, which makes it hard to stop turning the pages, discovering one delight after another.

This is a fun read, particularly for those of us who love each and every musician Baker worked with over the course of this career.
